Re: [ROM][UNOFFICIAL] Stock JellyBean 4.1.2 V4
Does this ROM not support multi taking? When I played a song and opened another app (agent dash) the song stops playing and when I exit the app It goes to the home page and the launcher reloads. The same thing happens even when I browse.
Am I the only one who has this problem? :\

Unfortunately this is case, although depending on what apps you need on your phone you may be able to get a more usable rom by removing things you don't want such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
I have v3 of that rom and have removed a lot of the apps that came pre-installed as I simply don't want them. Also, certain kernels will help, (such as the experimental v8 kernel) and can also be configured to use zram which will help slightly, although it's not perfect. Even with all of the above I regularly get launcher redraws after web browsing or playing a game.
... there's a reason Sony didn't release Jelly Bean on our device.
The good news is that some real progress is being made on various versions of Cyanogenmod, so while Sony may have given up on us, it's not time to go out and buy a new phone quite yet!

To be honest I'm a big fan of Sony's UI. My other half has a Samsung Galaxy and although I will say that it feels much more fluid than my phone to use, I'd still rather have my phone, just working better! Such a shame that Sony underspec'd the hardware, but then this is nothing new -- I've had three other Sony (Ericsson) phones and they've all been underspec'd. You'd have thought by now I'd have learned my lesson!

where is face-unlock feature ???????
Still no ics here in Italy
Italy still no ics, thats crazy! Im glad there is no face unlock feature, ics 10 out of 10.
Performance Good.
Only Flickering Screen, any solution??
At first, it looks nice. It is more stable and smooth.
I didn't see any screen flickering.
The browser is more fast, stable and smooth, but the opera is better anyway.
The launcher is like CM trebuchet, very nice.
I thought I read it somewhere that you can access your SD card directly from SONY apps but I'm unable to do that. Reader still can't scan files on my SD card.
Somehow the screen flickering is gone but now if i press resent apps my apps flashes on the homescreen dissappear and reappear nothing spectaculair but in the begin when i pressed the recent app button my screen flickers. Thats over now, i really like ics and about the missing face unlock,,, i don't care because it works 3 times over 10 so it doesn't bother me at all.
Edit: nevermind still have the flickering its just when you have more then 5 apps running i guess..

Upgraded to ICS yesterday. I dont like the Apps & Widgets (on top right hand). Previously, I can organised them by games, or apps download by my kids, etc, ie, there are separators. Now the only options are arrange them by "newest or A to Z". Its messy. Any suggestions? Tks

I also thought it was odd that they took away the ability to organize the apps as well. Oh well. ICS is still much better than HC.
1080p movies on ICS?
Hi have anyone already tried to play 1080p mkv after ICS upgrade? I've seen a video review where 1080p on HC didn't play or, if yes, they were in "slowmotion" like. Can you do some tests and share experience? And someone noticed a Cam improvement. Is that real? the front camera or rear camera? thanks a lot

But thanks to ICS, it's now possible to organize apps on the homescreen(s) by sliding an icon over another one that you deem related.
This way I've made 'folders', grouping apps by genre (e.g. 'News', 'Media', 'Communication', 'Shopping', etc.)

For me, folders were the main reason to upgrade. I've got a nice, uncluttered home screen now, with all of my most-used apps categorised and grouped.
Swiping notifications and apps is nice too, and I like Chrome a lot (still needs work though!)

I presume this is for rooted devices only? Started to get fed up with having a read only SD card
Evening fellow SGS3 owners, after having a (and being a die hard) iPhone 4 user. I finally saw the light in in using an operating system that allowed alot more than changin the wallpaper...... anyways I have just got a SGS3 in white which is awesome ^^
Couple of problems though after playing with a friends galaxy S2.
1) I've noticed that when in the app menu there is a tiny bit of lag when flicking through screens. Is that to make the screen flow better? The s2 just flicks through as soon as your fingers move.
Secondly (for any GTA3 lovers out there) I was copmparing my phone to a friends Onex and I have the PS2 textures on my version but he has the Xbox textures on his. Do you think this will get updated as that will bug me.
3) I have had the odd Applciations crash which I have never had before in iOS. Can that be a fault with the phone or is it normal?
4) The gallery app looks Pants compared to the S2 version, is there any way I can make it look the same?
Thanks alot!
Oh and on a side not if I want to change my mind I have a few days to change to a blue one if i prefer but I havent seen one. Anyone got any good piccies?
Jonny
1) Some android phones do some don't, depends on whats running and whats installed. Custom roms should help.
2) The one x has a tegra 3 optimised GTA so it will have the better textures, i don't think the normal version will be updated as the better graphics are exclusive to tegra 3 at the moment.
3) Its fairly normal , in my opinion android apps seem to crash more than on iOS.
If you experience lag a lot or random force closes constantly reboot your phone (may have to more than once). If problems still persist with app force closing then uninstall and reinstall the app, if it still force closes there is a high possibility the app has not been updated to support ice cream sandwhich or possibly the exynos quad core. The gallery app is something you have to live with unless you root (equivalent to jailbreak but at the same time much more) and put stock Google android or someone gets a custom rom and changes the framework of touchwiz. Also to fix your scrolling issue and make you android experience smoother you can download nova launcher or apex launcher from the play store to get the ics Google feel.

Actually the statistics show that ios apps crash more often than Android apps. Google it if you don't believe me.

Why? Because the OS is informing you that it crashed ? On iOS you don't even know this because Apple considered that the user didn't need to know, instead there's a crash report sent to Apple behind your back. Intratech is right, look it up on google and you'll see that iOS apps crash more.

I had used ICS for sometime since the update was available for my phone (Live with Walkman) and I was very happy with the new UI of the new Android 4.0. I really liked the Holo interface and everything but there was a "little" problem: I use to play games a lot, and since I updated my phone, there were a lots of games that aren't compatible with ICS. The task manager from ICS will be the things that I will miss the most, but however I do not regret to had taken this decition. Now that I downgraded to GB everything seems to be better (specially the games part) and the first thing I do is search for a new launcher, since Apex Launcher isn't compatible with GB. I used to have Go Launcher installed on my phone before the ICS update, but I really hate the new interace that this launcher has right now. But I found a really good alternative: Holo Launcher. It is pretty much the same as Apex, I really recommend it. :good: and i installed advanced task manager too, since GB doesn't have one.
There are a lot of possibilities to have Holo skin interface on GB (Xperia S + ICS theme for example) found on this forum.
So I just want to say Gingerbread rocks!
and I will never upgrade my phone again.

Yes, i absolutely agree with you. I like the battery and packet data management from ICS. But many my apps doesnt compatible on it. For example apps that need J2ME runner, all fail. And the UI, i like GB much. If i want such a thing that comes with ICS i'll search it on internet. And .... yuhuuuuuuu .... found everything i need :highfive::good:
Mine: SK17i
Well actually i upgraded to ICS then downgraded to GB (To play games of course ). But i missed ICS (especially google chrome) so much that i reverted back to iCS in a week Waiting for Jelly Bean now
i agree that GB still the best for gaming performance and compatibility with the most app

Actually the updated firefox is the best, in my opinion. No problems with the new version, the only bad thing is its a big install.
If you remove bloatwares, lww gives good battery backup on ics. Also games such as riptide gp, cut the rope run very smoothly.

agree... Chrome used to take 50mb of my internal memory, and didn't run that smooth at all, also if you sync your bookmarks with Chrome for Desktop you need to keep Sync activated on your Cellphone or it would lose all saved bookmarks :\

I don't know but I don't think a Jelly Bean Update is coming for the 2011 Xperia phones, maybe it would be exclusively for NXT series (Xperia S, etc....) But I'm not sure, I mean if we have a Jelly Bean Update it would be great!
I tried stock 4.1.2 for a month or so and now I've tried padwan for about a week but I can't seem to escape the extreme lag and slow downs. It got so bad that toward the end of these tests I started experementing with different cpu governers, overclocking, memory parameters via pimp my rom and system tuner. No matter what i've done I can't even load up chome without it taking nearly a minute for the phone to become responsive again. It's gotten so bad that I'm actually thinking about possibly going back to an ice cream sandwich rom to see if there is a huge speed boost.
So I turn to the community for advice... I require a phone rom on my i717 that's at least as responsive as an iphone 5 that has decent bluetooth keyboard and a2dp support.
My usual applications that I use on a regular basis are the xda app, facebook messenger, facebook, bacon reader, just reader, google play music, pandora, ingress, falcon pro, google drive, evernote, untapped, dropbox, check, gmail, wordpress, netflix, firefox, aldiko, pocket, steam, pvstar, ebay, getglue, camera, calendar, foursquare, and maps / navigation for trips to places i've never been.
If anyone has any advice for roms, configuration, or anything else i can do to make my phone much faster and lag free, I'd be happy to hear from you!
Thank you!

I know its a ways back in the Padawan thread now, but in May or June I referred folks back to pages 355-378 or so. at this time Padawan for JB was just released and many were having these issues. It was also when at least myself were newly introduced to the Trickster Mod. in these pages you will see many of us helping each other through the lag. the results had my phone running better than it had ever run.
to start, disable that ripple effect. that alone you will find is a huge difference. as far as Chrome goes??? its been a while now but something sticks in my head as to they may not play well together. another launcher may help the cause too.
good luck and I hope I have steered you in the helpful direction. you could have posted this there too. Padawan is one of the most helpful threads around.
I'll be happy to check out those pages you referenced when I get home from work tonight, thanks, but the reason I didn't post directly to the padwan forum is specifically because i didn't think it was a padwan problem. This same exact lag and slowness happened on the stock 4.1.2 rom as well both before and after i tried to edit the system parameters.
I KNOW it wasn't this slow on ICS... I just don't want to have to revert because then things like google now integration and such will be more or less broken.
In all honesty, what i'd really like is just a working fast rom with 4.3 or 4.4 with keyboard support... i'd be really happy with that... it just doesn't seem to be happening.
Thanks again!

Hi all, I am currently running a custom lightweight JellyBean ROM on my Xperia U after having used the official ICS update and it making my phone unusable (thanks Sony!)
The phone runs okay 50% of the time on JB, but the rest of the time I get horrendous lag and apps hanging. I can't even answer the phone often because the phone app hangs and the caller has hung up by the time the phone becomes responsive again. Also it seems the longer I have a ROM installed for the slower it gets. And when it is running well I can never type a text at full speed anyway as the auto correct gets confused and goes crazy.
Enough is enough, I need a ROM that actually is usable in day to day life, from what I can see I have two choices, either I go back to Gingerbread and accept that I wont get the modern apps/features/smoothness that comes with Android 4+ or I switch to Kitkat which has supposedly been designed to run well on 512MB devices like the Xperia U.
The apps I use frequently are:
- Opera mini
- Whatsapp
The apps I use occasionally are:
- Camera + album
- Walkman
- Facebook
- Kindle
- Youtube
- Google maps
- Google now (mainly just the reminders, although it is so slow now i tend not to bother now)
- Twitter
What are peoples experiences with Gingerbread vs KitKat for the Xperia U? Which is faster and less prone to hangs? Will Gingerbread run all the apps I currently use? Is there any issue with downgrading to Gingerbread after running JB?
I am really inexperienced when it comes to flashing ROM's so I only want to do this once and get it right
Thanks in advance!

As I can see you are not heavy user. Both Android version will do just fine. But both had their pros and cons. For example GB will be very lightweight and very stable (almost no bugs) but it is very old. Like you already knew not all app support GB anymore so you will have better stability in trade for compatibility. On KK otherwise will be supported by almost every app and have better lib, drivers, eye candy thingy but might had somewhat unsolved bugs. So its up to your choice. But im strongly suggest KK as its now almost bug free.
Btw,dont be afraid to flashing rom. Its really easy. As long as you follow the instruction you will be fine. And maybe someday you will be flashaholic too like me! Lol! ,
