[Help][Solved] Theming - status bar - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Need some help from you themers. What files do I need to edit to make my status bar and the settings menu pure black? I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 i605 (VZW) on the latest official firmware s-off and rooted.
FWIW, I'm working with a MacBook Pro using apktool 1.5.2 and smali/baksmali 1.4.1.
If you don't mind, I would much rather not use someone else's mod. I would like to just learn to do it myself
Thanks.
EDIT:
Thanks for the help everyone
For others, here is the answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33975827&postcount=1

Status bar would be in the system ui apk, res drawable xhdpi folder or folders. The settings bg is in the settings apk or maybe framework res apk and I think it is in the same folder. I can look tomorrow to give you a for sure file path.

Sounds good BTR, I appreciate that. So I take it what I need to edit is png files and not xml color resources right?

Yes you are correct. Goodness has some status bar color mods and some settings bg mods, but the names were renamed and that cause of the settings and mods available. I'm fixing to have to go to work so I'll have a chance at some point to look and get that file path.

The status bar is a XML edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985689

i'm def not a themer so i could be wrong, but i would look in the launcher apk file.
inside of the launcher apk, maybe an xml file, but it would vary which xml file or java/smali file depending on how each launcher is setup...
thanks very much just needed a driection ive been looking at files in the framework and i see how it would be part of the launcher app thank you.

I've been playing around modifying the colors of the icons in my ICS System_UI.apk and I've made everything a grey theme only thing I don't know how to change is the color of the clock in the status bar since its not an image how would I go about changing this?

You need to decompile your systemui.apk.after that go to res/values/
edit styles.xml, search for TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock and change the value of android:textColor to 808080 (which i think is grey, not sure).after making changes, save and compile your systemui.apk and there you go...

Maybe I have missed something here.
Every application I use to decompile an ICS apk file returns errors.
What application are you using to decompile and then recompile the apk files?
Any help would be appreciated.

hi! sorry I wrote wrongly.. I forgot a word.. I know where apps are.. I meant where default app ICONS are.. sorry for confusion..
I'm asking this because I would like to replace the exDialer icon (green one) with the default JB telephone one (blue receiver).. but I don't know where I can locate the JB telephone app icon..
I think you may have had the right image, but I believe you may have to decompile then recompile the app properly to do change that. Google should produce results for a guide to do this as I have seen one recently

Which one do you want? If I have it I will drop box it for you
To replace images you don't have to decompile just drop them in /res/*whichever folder it goes in* with a store compression value.
Only when you need to edit XML's do you need to decompile and recompile.

Thank you very much
It is the blue telephone app icon you can see in the attachment..
I have it somewhere in the system I'm sure otherwise the app couldn't show it but don't know where i could look..
you forgot the attachment
Sorry.. second from the left, third row.. it is the regular jb telephone app icon.. I don't like all the other telephone icons I have..
just trying to upload it now
here

mate.. you are epic!!
that's wonderful.. at last.. thanks so much! :good::good::highfive::victory:
You dont need to decompile to change .pngs...just open the .apk with winrar and go to res/drawable-xhdpi and replace what you want to
the other drawable folders arent used in the S3 - they are overwritten by the xhdpi folder
Edit, couldnt type it fast enough...!!
And that should be dropped in appname.apk/res/mipmap-xhdpi or hdpi or mdpi whichever one is for your dpi.

the file you need to mod is status_bar_expanded.xml
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.phone.NotificationPanelView
you can set transparency by changing the android background color hex
I added a new background so the resource would define color by drawable rather than style... i did this for the reason it is easier for the average user to mod themselves.
Nice mod still getting the shuttering when opening the drawer no biggie.

the systemUI mods have a permission set for Prism.apk. I'm assuming that is a typo in your updater script and you meant to set the permissions for SystemUI since that's what is being flashed.

that is correct it will not make a difference anyway, thank you for pointing it out though
I wasn't trying to be a prick or anything. What I meant to ask is I guess is does the SystemUI apk. need to have those permissions set?

Nah I just meant that I dont like to point out things trying to highlight a mistake to make anyone look bad. I was just confirming what your were intending to do vs what I looked like the script had going.
hey @xvicedice im trying to get the transparent status bar (when closed) to match the transparency of your blinkfeed/app drawer mod. i was wondering if you could point me to the drawable/xml file. thanks!

no worries what level of transparency are you looking for? - its more than likely in the values/drawables folder under something like status_bar_bg.. if not i thing on the sense based roms they are png files due to the open close of statusbar.. in the case of the second i would look in the drawables folder for something like status bar on or something... if you have any issues let me knw

[Q]Changing Settings Background ONLY

Is it possible to change the background of the settings menu and NOT everything else like the messages and Xposed modules background?
I know there is an Xposed Module that does it but it changes everything, If someone could point me into the file in which does this so I can edit it myself and change the background that would be awesome!
Thanks

Highly doubt it unless you do an XML edit to make Settings.apk point to a different image but I wouldnt know how to do that. @icedventimocha what do you think?

That would be correct, most likely located in styles.xml. I can try and take a look at it.

That would be another cool feature for the note 2. Transparent Settings Only. Just a thought
I was thinking of getting the gradient that matched the blue in the settings menu bar as it is now
Unfortunately its a different blue than the phone apk so it offsets it and I'm very OCD lol

Thanks iced, I figured thats what it would be.
I'm not as good supra and iced, but it is in styles.xml. However, it then points to devicedefault in framework-res.apk which then tells it what image to use.
I think the easiest fix woukd be to create your own theme in framework-res and have it pull the image you want then tell settings to use that theme.
