Is there anyway to do this? There are plenty of security apps that help you track and lock down your phone if stolen, but really whats the god dam point if someone steals your phone and turns it off? These apps are completely useless then. Next time the guy turns it on, he could be in odin/download mode and you wouldn't even know. I don't know if someone hasn't thought of this before, or if its just not possible, but this is a serious issue.

But one could always pull the battery. Maybe for a phone with a non removable battery.

when i was trying to flash a new SPL my phone powered off and now wont power on at all. if anybody can please help or give any advice please, please, please do so. any is appreciated!
This is going to be a stupid question, sorry. Have you removed the battery? If that doesn't work, and still wont turn on, then maybe try pushing the call and end button at the same time and hold for a few seconds. That may do something but not sure, this is the first I have heard of this problem.
thank you so much for replying! but yes, ive removed the battery and the sd card. i just tried holding the call and end button but nothing happened. i dont know if this is any help but when i connect the phone to the usb charger with the battery in it doesnt do anything, but when i connect the phone and usb battery-less and then insert the battery the charging light comes on. right now thats the only shred of hope i have...

Well no recovery probably means bricked. Did you try booting in to the bootloader? I haven't done it in forever, I think its end+send+volume down

im thinking about going to the store. but that little watermark sticker is pink. do you think thatll affect me getting a new phone in anyway?
If you have insurance just call tech support there transfer you to insurance and pay the 90$ and since out on new Eris may get a better phone my wife had Droid one dropped in water and had to go through insurance and they were out if new droids she got a brand new Droid 2.insurance sends new phones say dropped in lake and don't have phone anymore, worth a try
So when you connect your USB does the computer recognize anything? And does the phone light turn on even for a moment?
Sounds pretty bricked. Tell Verizon your phone just stopped turning on.
thanks for all the advice guys! i just got back from the vs and i got a "certified like new" eris. along with a cute little pink case for only 3 bucks.
and for future reference
we do not need 2 threads in 2 different locations for one single individual issuse

sorry about your phone
Okay, I did some searching and I didn't really find what I needed in my circumstance. I've read the threads about unrooting my thunderbolt buy my situation is a bit more specific than the generic unrooting procedures that I've seen.
So, through some weird circumstances my thunerbolt's screen doesnt turn on anymore. It ended up being dropped about a foot and the screen just died on me. there is no physical damage to the phone (i.e. the screen isn't cracked or bleeding). I already talked to Verizon reps about it, and I might be able to turn it in for warranty replacement. (If not, I'll just have to use my upgrae ). but to turn it for warranty I will obviously have to remove root. I haven't flashed anything to my phone for about 3 or 4 months so I know I didn't kill the screen by messing something up.
Here's the catch:
-my screen is dead so i cant really see what im doing on the phone.
-for some reason my computer cant recognize my phone. it keeps telling me that "the USB evice has malfunctioned".
-my SD card still reads in my card reader on my PC.
So basically I don't really have any idea how i could possibly go about unrooting my phone. Any ideas or suggestion are welcome. Maybe a donation to the contributors that help me? If not I will sadly have to leave the realm of the thunderbolt and I will use my upgrade If needed. (I would much rather keep my Thunderbolt than have to upgrade to like the nexus or something...I dont like them....)
Thanks in advanced

Okay, but how can I use it with out a working screen?
thanks
That i dont know. But if the screen isnt working, why unroot?

so that i can turn it in for a warranty claim
If it were me, I'd try the warranty route. If the screen/phone? wont turn on, how can someone tell if rooted? Worst case, you'd have to use your upgrade like you said. Hope you get it figured out, good luck

Can't they like hook it up to their computer or something like that and find that the phone is rooted?
Maybe, but didn't you say your PC doesn't recognize phone anymore? From what I've read, don't quote me on this, Big Red does not really do an in depth check before sending out for repair. Check for root, sure they do but again no screen/power, who knows then. Repair people could prolly care less. Again, nothing in stone here, just stuff I picked reading here n there.

Yeah. I went into the store and they shipped me a new warranty replacement phone. Although they did this, I'm still a bit apprehensive about sending it back while it's still rooted. So my original request still stands: I would like to know of a possible way to unroot it.
Thanks
I've tried to search for this, but nothing has come up, so grateful if you don't flame me.
I've dropped my Galaxy SII down the loo. I know. I'm an idiot. But an honest one. It did the whole flashy screen thing before I could rip the battery out, so I think it is well and truly dead. A night in a hot room in a rice bath didn't fix it, and I doubt the day in the airing cupboard in the rice bath will do either. I am insured, so that's fine.
Problem is, I want to be able to extract the data from it that was on there. Any thoughts as to how I can do that? It really doesn't turn on at all, not even to get into a boot loop.
Thanks.
I doubt you'll be able to extract the data without being able to access the internal storage. And if the phone doesn't turn on, you'd need 'specialist' tools to do that I.E the kind Samsung/repairers use to fix borked phones. Even they may not be able to recover the data.

Any idea where I might be able to get that done? I work in London Bridge, and live in Alton, Hampshire. Or how I might be able to find someone who does that sort of thing?
Or, better still, is there a programme that I can use to do it? Some of the stuff in the phone is quite 'personal', and I doubt my wife would be chuffed if anyone else were to have access to that. Thanks.
Andy
unless you can boot into recovery you cant get the data out
because you cant read the data from the chip without booting
There's no way you're going to be able to do it yourself. Start contacting mobile phone repairers, you'll might even find places who do data extraction on PC's drives who can do it. Yellow Pages/Google/etc. But definitely no chance of you doing it unfortunately as BlueFa1con said.
Re: the stuff that's 'personal, if it's that personal, I'd recommend you destroy the phone.

Just got a quote of £60 to get the data off. No way is it worth that much.
Think it may have unbricked itself. It turns on now, the touchscreen is a bit flaky - it is a bit slow to recognise touch, but I reackon it will go into data mode so I can get what I need before it goes for repair (if needed).
How come can we use the power quick menu OVER the lockscreen?
I mean why would anyone want that? Doesn't this cancel the lock or not?
This is not a bug,I guess, but it should have been considered one.
The first scenario that comes in mind is the stolen phone one.
Guy gets my phone.I try to use anti theft software but I can't,
since the first thing he does is shut down the phone.
Btw,I m on a MINI with the official Android 2.3.4 firmware (rooted).
Oddly enough the same thing is true about iOS as well.
Tell me what you think about this issue...

Come on! Does this ability to shut down the phone even if it's locked bothers only ME? :-D

YES , it does bother me bcoz anyone who stole the phone can switch off without entering any lock code or secure code this menu helps thief's a lot to have safe from their theft... why would anyone like it!!!!
I really don't understand the meaning of the post.
So, you're all agitated because someone can switch your phone while its locked right?
Have you ever thought that someone would actually REMOVE THE BATTERY? I know it's science fiction, taking into consideration the effort someone has to put into removing a battery, but it is plausible...
Just making a thread to hate on something that there is no reason to hate? Nice try.

LOL. Yeah. Right.
Anyways, the Power Menu lets you get out of a situation where you locked yourself out of the phone. Nothing is working (due to some bug), but the power menu works, giving you the chance to escape the situation by performing a proper shutdown. (Well, you can do that again by battery pull, but since here your cause is just, better to have official ways to do it).
Thanks,
Rick

I laughed till I fell from the chair
LOL First of all this was a drunk thread!
The point was that I was searching for a way to disable this!
Also I d like the ability to remove the option to select
NO SOUND from the lock screen.
Since I m on a stock sony FW,I obviously can't do anything of these.

Now that my wifes S6 Edge has been stolen, I will try to pretend that it is not possible to turn of the phone?
Because I have registered it at Samsung, so it can be found via ADM or Samsung's own service. Well not possible, because the thief had turned of the smartphone. I thought that you could only do this if you had the pass, pattern og fingerprint. Too sad
Also figured out by now, that it is possible on my iPhone 6S as well?!
So my question is, why is that possible? It seems too easy for thiefs to turn them off. I know they are some how protected, but the phones can still be used as spareparts...
Is there any Android app, that can prevent it from being turned off?

Yes reactivation lock was on.
Well, the battery can run down to 0, but that would take a while, and to disassemble the phone would take some time, at least then it would be possible to track it.
