[Q] Stuck Need Help!!!!!! - HTC Rezound

Hi, my rezound was rooted running cm 10.1 liquid smooth and i am upgrading to the droid maxx soon so i relocked my boot loader go the ruu from androidpolice.com (ics) and attempted flashing in hboot but it says (hboot version too old update failed) my hboot version is 2.28 and im s-on.

You have to run an RUU that is the same version as your hboot. You can't run an older RUU on an s on phone. There's no downgrading when you're s on.

i know but i need the ruu all of them ive tried so far dont work

Look in about phone/software/more or something close to that and post your baseband versions. I think it may be an OTA update that wasn't available as of early July in RUU version. You may have to unlock it and manually flash the stock Rom and recovery but I'll see if an RUU has been uploaded since then. Someone from the HTC Elevate program might have one lying around. That's where I usually see RUU's that haven't been available to the general public.

this is the android police site http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...cream-sandwich-ruu-for-final-ota-3-14-605-12/

http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/716364-newest-global-rom.html
That page in posts #3 and 4 has the info and link you need. Really you only need the recovery out of that set of stuff. But if you're s on you will need to flash the whole package. But you want to first flash the latest stock Rom that's available, if you're still on a cm10 Rom. That would be the first thing I do is get back to a stock sense Rom anyway. Then you can flash the stock firmware update which contains stock hboot, recovery, and radios.

You have the hboot provided from the last OTA update, there is no RUU out for it. Only way to revert is s-off your phone first.

S-Off help?

Im currently s-on unlocked running Clean rom 4.5 developers edition and my hboot version is 2.10 with the GB patch. I've been thinking about attempting s-off but so far the one step I need to figure out is how to get back to a stock gb or ics rom (prerequisite to performing s-off I believe)
What are my options here? Do I need to re-lock my phone, run a ruu, then unlock again?
Is there a zip file I can flash to get a stock rom loaded without re-locking then unlocking?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
Jbear s-off wants a stock rooted phone because it is too much for their tech support people to deal with all the many ROMs in existence.
A Rom that is close to stock like cleanrom has a good chance of working with the jbear s-off process, but I do not know for sure.
Since you have gingerbread firmware, you should use the gingerbread rezound jbear download, IF you decide to attempt it.
On the other hand we have official ics now, and you might as well move onto it rather than using gingerbread firmware and a ROM that will never get updated because the author moved on to buy a different smart phone.
The ics ruu will do a factory reset and wipe the internal sdcard. The removable microSD card should be left untouched. you will need to relock the bootloader to run the ruu, but it easy to relock with hansoon's all in one toolkit if you have saved your htcdev.com unlock bin file.
Here is the official ics ruu file, if you decide to install it.

Thanks for the response! I've downloaded the ruu for ics & I still have the htc unlock code. I will give this a try hopefully this weekend

I was on 605.2 when I used juniperbear's method.
I recommend using an insulated paper clip. I got s-off after 2 tries on my wife's phone.
Which download from juopuntobear did you use with the 605.2 ics?
It doesn't look like it is supported on their site...

I tried a paperclip and it would not take. I ended up using a piece of 20 gauge wire from an old RC battery pack. Worked then.

confused semi-noob, please help
Currently running rezrom ex v.3.4 with ics 3.11.605.22. I have seen this question asked a few times in different places throughout the forum but am still a little unsure as to what is best or whether it matters at all. I've heard it is best to return to stock rom before attempting s-off but I've also heard that others with my rom have not had any problems. So if I s-off with my current rom, and it works, I will still have root and be able to flash the most current ruu, right? Where as if I were to try to flash the most current ruu now, I would have to first relock the bootloader, then once on the new ruu, I would have to unlock from htcdev again and flash amon ra again and re-root before being able to s-off. If I have this right, then there is no real downside (besides it possibly not working) to trying to s-off now with my current rom. In fact, it would be less time consuming and less confusing, correct? I've been trying to read everything possible on getting my phone to s-off, but I think at this point, I'm just getting more confused with the more I read.
I wish I had an answer for you. Im in the same boat as you, read a lot, still confused.
I think im in boat number two, re lock, flash newest ics ruu, unlock, try to s-off, but what im not 100% sure of is which juopuntobear to download & use.
Post back in the thread if you are able to s-off with the rom your running. Maybe I will try with the rom im running & just say screw it.

re
You are supposed to use the version that is current with the ruu that your running. For instance, mine is the early ics leak. If you update to a more current ruu when reverting to stock, you should choose one that jb made a exploit for (v. 3.13..., or 3.14...). Of course, I'm still semi-noon so this is just my best educated guess from my studying of these forums. I would be very grateful if one of the devs would correct me though... Please.
i did it!
So I decided to s-off with my current Rom installed. It worked but my phone didn't recognize my ext sd. I tried all the fixes available and nothing worked, so instead, I flashed the newest ruu. That fixed my problem but I didn't have recovery anymore. I found a ph98img for an older version of amon ra and replaced the IMG file in the zip with a recent version and edited the text file to show my current mainver. I flashed the new ph98img rough bootloader and now have amon ra and was able to flash a new Rom. The reason I used a ph98img was because I was no longer around a pc to flash it through fastboot. It all worked great but took a bit of time.
Nice! Glad it all worked out. I guess I would need to download juopuntobear for gb & try that.maybe I will give it a try.

How Can I Flash New Radios with S-On?

I have Hboot 1.15, Fresh EVO OS. And used the Regaw Autoroot following the OTA Update. I heard you can do this using fastboot or HTCdev, but I'm not sure how to do this... And could not find any answers (My concern is that the new FRESH updates use the new radios, and I updated to it, but can't flash the new radios)
If this has already been answered I apologize, but I couldn't find it.
Thank you for the help!
Dude there's threads all over the forum about this issue. Just spend 2minutes looking and you'll be all set
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
You can't update radios if you are s-on hboot 1.15. Your only option to update the radios is to relock and take the ota or install the new ruu. Then unlock again, install twrp, and then install your favorite rom. As many will state, never take the ota because you may loose ability to get s-off in the future. This may be true, but there is no s-off solution for your hboot anyway so you might as well bite the bullet now and live in the present instead of waiting for something that may never happen in the future.
Interesting. All right Thanks for your help. And as for there being threads "all over" I was getting conflicting reports, since I saw on one page where it was possible to flash using HTCdev with S-on, but there was no link or instructions given.
To address ur main concern, there is no need to update your radios. If you want to run a rom that is based off the latest update all u need to do is make sure your kernel matches the kernel in the rom. You can update your kernel with Flash img GUI, found in the app store. Just download the rom u want open flash img GUI select the rom and choose to flash kernel img. Once complete, wipe and flash rom. Njoy!

I am S-ON HBoot 1.15. Is it possible to flash HTC Stock recovery, go to stock rooted rom, use OTA root Keeper and take the new OTA?
You don't need OTA root keeper because your going to have to do HTC dev to unlock the device again.
With that being said I wouldnt recommend taking the OTA or running the ruu to update because you'll be on the new hboot
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Not to mention the new base for stock has introduced a few of its own issues that the new firmware/hboot can not fix. Several people have attempted to downgrade thinking its the best alternative and brick their phones in doing so. The new firmware doesn't change much anyway

latest RUU is 4.03.605.2 which i think has 2.22.10.0801r, 2.22.10.0803r
with 2.27 Hboot which you can check by going into bootloader
im not a radio genius. So someone correct me if I'm wrong
but check the rest of your "about phone section" for RUU information
4.03.605.2 is the newest radio just google i and you will find it. I use this one and I think it has more stable 4G signal,
Be advised that 4.03.605.2 is a Leak. Since you are s-on if you flash the global leak you will not be able to take any official OTAs.
I would use the official RUU which will update you and then take the OTA that just came out a couple weeks ago. Find the RUU here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
It's the top one, 3.14.605.12
Then if you are not happy with your reception you can always go up to the global leak if you want, you just can't go back down to a lower version without s-off.
Before you do this back up everything you need as this will wipe your phone and put it to factory stock.
You need to relock your phone to run it:
fastboot oem lock
And then you'll need to unlock again and flash Amon Ra before flashing a custom ROM again.
Question about "build"

So, this build number is confusing me. This is what I presently have and I'm not sure how I got here
Baseband 2.22.10.0801 /....803
Hboot 2027
Build 1.11.401.110
Seems like everyone else with this radio combo is on build 4.03 or something like that.
Is there any advantage to me upgrading to that build? I am S-Off and hate the prospect of relocking or having my internal SD wiped if I don't have to go through that.
Build number has nothing to do with firmware. It's set by the ROM. You're already on the global firmware.

Can I still get S-off?

Sorry dude, pretty much screwed until they find a work around for the .11 update. I made the mistake of accidentally S-On and forgetting to lock instead of relocking my bootloader (wanted to return for warranty purposes). After that I've tried pretty much everything from downgrading to the stock ROM using customs ROMS trying to edit RUU's to work with my phone (Do not try this, easiest way to brick your very expensive phone) Nothing works as of now, Htc and t-mobile screwed us by not giving us the Stock RUU they knew what they were doing. But yes you have to wait.
*NOTE* On the otherhand i did learn that i didn't need to lock my bootloader to return it for warranty purposes the guy at the t-mobile store replaced it right there for me no questions asked. But the replacement i got came with the updated .11 ROM which means no S-Off for me still.
Damn. That's what I was afraid of. I just kept reading that as long as you had 1.44 h-boot it was still possible, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Well thanks anyway for responding.

Wait I thought you could s-off with that hboot i thought 5xxx was unable to s-off
You can s-off hboot 1.44 as long as you haven't taken the latest tmobile ota or used the tmobile ruu, they patched whatever it was that allowed us to s-off in the latest version

Ok guys not to sound stupid but I've rooted plenty of phones and have had pretty much every top tier phone. I've rooted all my android phones. I just don't understand the s-off portion of it all. I have s-off and currently rooted. What advantage do I have over someone that doesn't have s-off? I got my one already rooted so I never went through the process. I guess that's why I'm confused. I'm used to Samsung phones.
When the update comes next week should i just wait for a rooted version of it? I'm assuming so.

S-OFF basically allows you to do 2 main things you couldn't otherwise pertaining to Roms and such:
1- flash unsigned RUUs. You can flash custom firmware that don't belong to your device. IE: you can flash the newest 4.3 firmware prior to 4.3 releasing for the T-Mobile One.
2: get yourself out of a jam. Here's a great example. Let's say you flashed the stock GPE recovery and ROM. Your S-ON. You wanted the full GPE experience. Your phone took the newest update. It will flash 1.54 Hboot and update the boot loader to the black GPE version although you are S-ON and not running the GPE device. Without S-ON your SOL if you needed to go back to stock for whatever reason because the HBoot can't be rolled back on S-ON.
Its a good protection to have in your back pocket IMO

So that would explain how I am able to flash Roms from the international version. Well I guess I better be careful with any RUUs that are to come. I need to figure out how I'm going to update when the tmobile One's 4.3 update comes this week.

So once S-OFF is achieved, can flashing any RUU set it back to S-ON? If so, how can that be avoided?
I have a tmobile phone flashed with launch WWE firmware; don't care about WiFi calling or any carrier bloat, but did want the 1700 HSPA+. I'm thinking of clean flashing to latest Tmobile RUU to get the supposed LTE reception improvements, then going from there to back to launch WWE and to latest WWE (to try to retain settings).

I rarely disagree with REV3NT3CH, but I think as long as you are on the latest firmware (hboot/radios), just CleanWipe and install this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154 it is bone stock with root added, it is not PURE stock, but it is as close as you can get without the RUU (which isn't available... yet).

You CAN S-Off from a custom rom... it's not recommended as it has only been tried (successfully so far) by a handful of users...the link above is how I did it just a couple weeks ago. YMMV of course...
Obviously skip the S-on part at the end unless you really want to... and why would you once you are s-off?
For taking it back to Verizon for example while being fully stock so they can't flag you
