[Q] Play Store = App Store?

I have an iPod touch and as Apps are slowly being ported from iOS to Android, making me want to use my phone more.
Anyways, are purchases, including free apps, saved to our account on Google? The App Store stores every app downloaded regardless, free or paid.
Example: App goes free for 24 hours on the App Store. Download it for free. Goes back to 0.99 after 24 hours. You uninstall it. Come back a week later and realize you want it again. Installs without charge or fee.
Example 2: Same as above but it's free first. Download the free version. Uninstall it. Week later you want it back, now its 0.99. Download again, no fee or charge.
The examples are of iOS and how the App Store works. Is the Play Store like that?
Play market doesn't work like that because an app that is free cannot later be charged for so no the market is not like app store in that respect.
However if you buy an app in a sale and uninstall it you can of course reinstall that at no cost and you get a trial period to test apps during which you can cancel the sale.

Nope, google play is more fair to the developers, if the developer decides to ask money for it after giving the app for free you just have to buy it even if you had it installed before when it was free.
Why? as example:
You downloaded monkey app 3.0,
when the developers updates it to version 4.0 and wants to ask money for it they also want everyone to buy it and not just the people who are downloading it for the first time.
A new version of a certain app is not always "Just a update" it could be a whole different app because it's fully rewritten or something like that.
And if you wonder why the play store doesn't offer the older free versions...
The play store doesn't want people to use outdated apps like any other store.

You are basically saying if the developer pulls the free app and then relaunches something similar paid. In that scenario you could get a copy of the apk from when the app was free by either your own Titanium Backup if you use it, or by Googleing for it. Then keep that apk around for other devices, etc. Thats one of the nice things about being able to sideload apks, you are not restricted to what is listed on Google Play.
It's a good move for developers, but not for buyers. Where Apple is good for buyers, not developers.

Play Store limitations

Hello XDA,
I'm from Iraq, and most apps are blocked from the Play Store for people here, and I really mean most, e.g Go Launcher, Angry Birds, Viber, even whatsapp.
The only solution used to be Market Enabler, but that stopped working a few months ago.
I've tried using proxies but the internet is slow enough on its own and with a proxy I usually get "Connection timed out." error from the play store.
Is there any way I could bypass this limitation? Because having a smart phone without any smart apps is useless.
Thanks!

The only thing I know of is a feature in rom toolbox,by jrummy (the full version), it has a " country changer" for the phone.
Would it be possible for you to get an ap "aptiode "off the net which is a link to apps people upload . In the west it's not the most moral app as there are alot of paid apps for free, which is wrong but if it allowed you to get them id say it was ok,all things considered.
Im sorry you have to live under such conditions brother.

Didn't find that tool in ROM Toolbox (maybe I have an outdated version).
Alt. markets are not as good as the Play Store (slow downloads, not allot of apps, sometimes not up to date).
I guess there's nothing to do now

The aptiode app is first class. It finds ANY APPand I mean any.its like an umbrella.it checks 100s of stores The day something comes out you will get it with it.
Also down loads as fast as google.
I swear by it. Try it . You will be v.glad you did.

[Q] Android without Google

Hello,
I wish to use Android without Google. I mean, android without any google apps (gapps pack) installed just after flashing AOSP rom. I already identify and tested all alternatives apps of Google apps I used. I use already the alternative android market F-Droid. However, before use Android without Google, I want to know feedback of users that already do it. In particular about my question:
What are the constraints, bugs and disadvantages while using Android without Google installed?
Thanks
F droid is a good alternative but of course you have less apps

yes, you have less apps
There are fewer apps, and they work great but you may need to look for other services to replace Google's unless you want to run the web apps (see Gapps Browser). An excellent choice is owncloud: see http://sufficientlysecure.org/index.php/2013/11/26/an-android-without-google/ for a short guide to replacing contact, calendar, todo and password sync.
I think the major downside is losing the advanced location functionality and push notifications available to apps that use Google Play Services. On the other hand your battery may thank you for not using it. Xmpp based messaging apps are a little battery hungry but not too bad. I've been using CM without Gapps for ages, and it works fine, but I'm hoping OmniROm will be more friendly.
jonathan and thmls : off initial topic
dab : nice feedback, great link

Hi guys, has anyone seen a list of all Google apps and services that can be disabled or deleted? I love the skinned ROM on my phone and all the features, I've started disabling and uninstalling as much Google as I can.
Hey it's ridiculous to buy a Google android device and not use the apps that are considered the advantage of android on other OSes. But a good alternative to Google play is amazon appstore

I disagree. When Google branded Android phones had a smaller market share, I would say there was more choice, you could avoid Google. Now that they dominate smartphone sales and change their policies it's different. It's becoming a monopoly and we are losing that choice.
Yeah I did try the Amazon app store, re-downloading it now to give it another go...

Problems
From the author of the No Google apps project:
MaR-V-iN said:
Android without Google apps have several problems:
Some apps do not install because of missing Google Maps API
Some apps fc at startup bacause of missing Maps API or market license check issues
Some apps hardcoded links to several Google Apps and therefor fc or react unexpectedly on certain cases.
No access to Play Store (i tried nearly every alternative market, but nothing is as good for free apps as play store) Meanwhile, F-Droid provides nearly everything you need

Why not just use 1Mobile Market. Completely legal play store alternative. Even has all the Google apps like maps and Google services if you so desire. (defeats the purpose I know). I went this route as I want total control of my devices. Google has got out of hand with their apps and Play Services Framework and whatever else they cram in. The apps on 1Mobile Market are more up to date than the Amazon App store also which sometimes can be multiple versions behind. So just flash AOSP, grab the 1Mobile Market APK (Google it) and go to town.

[Q] Alternatives to the play store?

Are there any alternatives to the play store app? I've a chinese lenovo phone and have tried almost everything to get the play store to work "rooting, attempted flash rom, to install as a system app etc" but can't get the framework to work with my phone, so is there any alternatives to the play store in app form, the lenovo store app on my phone is in chinese and 98% of the apps too!
Amazon app store is the biggest after Googles store: www.amazon.com/getappstore . Another small but important store is F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/ (All apps are open source). Just google for more alternatives.

Paid app removed from Google Play My Apps & Games

Has anyone else lost Leo's Fortune app from Google Play My Apps & Games?
It is currently not there for me either
I have had this happen with paid apps before. Usually its because the app dev isn't jumping through googles hoops, so google takes the app down til they comply
With luck it will return to the play store.
One thing that can be done is:
Before an app is taken down have it either installed or have a backup of it, I use Titanium Backup for this. Obviously not much help to you now

I do have Titanium Backup of it but not the whole app data was backed up only 110MB or so, when the app is actually about 300MB in size from what I remember of the app' listing in the Play Store.
I only asked because there are much more malicious apps that are still on the Google Play Store and Google does not remove them but removes a game not just for everybody but for those who purchased it as well.
I have had apps on Apple App store that are not removed from My Apps even through they may be removed the Apple App Store so new user may not install the app.
