Is there a way to stop Verizon OTA's? I'm Rooted Stock on the VRUAMDK build and I don't want to accept the OTA b/c i'm afraid i'll lose root and my custom Recovery. So far the only way i know to stop the OTA's is to completely power my phone off at night.

Find a root explorer type application and remove SDK.apk and FWUpgrade.apk from system/app
A simple Google search or even a search of this forum would have found this answer.

is there an OTA stock 2.1 Rom i can just flash, and unroot with?
i know that if i root, i can flash other roms and what not , but then if i need to return my phone to verizon if it breaks, can i just flash the stock OTA 2.1 rom and i will lose root and verizon won't know i was ever rooted?
if i can do that can someone give me a link? i swear i saw one yesterday but i cant find it.
also, would verizon be able to tell if i did the same thing with the v3 leak, flashed a non rooted rom?
...im so confused
edit: if this is in the wrong section, sorry, please move to the correct one
77 views and not 1 single response wow.........
do a search for 2.1 RUU
thats what you need to flash to set your phone back to original factory 2.1 so that verizon could never tell you touched it

I'm looking for an easy way to unroot my phone without a computer.
Anyone know how to do this?
I would assume this ROM (EF 3.5.1) includes permanent root, since there are directions for coming from stock ED01- would this be a correct assumption? I flashed this when i already had root, so I just wanted to make sure before doing the same on my wife's non-rooted phone. Thanks in advance.

You are correct in assuming it comes rooted. As in it comes with the SuperUser permissions and application already in the ROM/System.
You are incorrect in calling it "permanent". Rooting is never permanent. You could flash another non rooted ROM and lose your root rights. How do I know? I have done it and it confused the hell out of me!
cheers!

lol, true. I guess i wasn't clear by saying permanent root. I knew you could remove root, as i have done quite often for OTA update testing, and so forth. by permanent, i just meant that root would stick if you rebooted it. Thanks for the helpful information though
Like an idiot I applied the update without deferral, and subsequently lost root. If anyone learns how to restore it, could you please post instructions? @#$%@# verizon... it's totally my fault for not having the sense to defer but jeepers, what a PITA. If you see anything, please post.
Re: <sigh> lost root with update
Can't you just re-root with the method you used previously? I did Exynos exploit, but haven't got an update.

This might be a stupid response, so I would wait for an experienced user to comment but couldn't you just use Odin to flash back to the "Old" stock ROM then re-root and apply adrynalyne's safe update?

If you lost root, you can probably use that OTA root keeper people rave about.
Otherwise yeah, technically your method should work.

He says he used the ExynosAbuse exploit to gain root. The Verizon update patches the exploit, so he couldn't use the ExynosAbuse exploit to regain root unless he flashes a stock kernal from before the Verizon update and then reuses the ExynosAbuse exploit.

Yeah I figured that out with someone I was working with who lost root.
As long as there is a custom recovery, I would think this would work.

Hi everyone, I'm finally about to OTA my verizon s4. I'm going to use voodoo to protect the root. I'm a little concerned about what voodoo is showing me, before I do the update. I have super su installed and not the other Superuser app and it gives me a link for the superuser one.
Please everyone let me know if it's safe to proceed and that I don't need to also install that other Superuser app, which I don't like. Screenshot attached, thank you in advance!

Me7 is rootable so even if you lose root you can get it back.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
True, I just hate to go thru the trouble if I don't have to. I only have access to a work pc so its kind of a pain.
Im real good with tech but can't afford problems with this phone and yes im a little paranoid lol
Don't do it bro! If your own MDK your golden
Keep MDK. It has the most ROM friendly bootloader.

Im on mdk but I have no interest in loading different roms or anything so I really don't care about the bootloader. If I had a second phone then hell yeah I would go crazy but this is my daily driver and I can't screw with it. Besides, I actually like the stock rom. I just need root because I can't stand the limitation not being rooted.
So aside from my concern about the Play Store link in voodoo, will I have to also temporarily unroot after I protect root?

Totally understandable but root and flash a custom recovery. You may change your mind later and it'll be too late to do anything about it. There's a stock rooted ME7 in the dev section so you'd get the stadibility of stock, root and a bootloader you can manipulate if you ever choose to.
I've never been fond of flashing especially when I have no backup cell phone and I've already tweaked this phone to my liking. I honestly will never want to flash this phone... as dumb as that sounds

Fair enough. In that case, forgo OTArootkeeper/voodoo/whatever, accept the ME7 update and root it via the method in the Dev section. DISCLAIMER!! By doing this, you waive all rights to whine about your bootloader in the future

I hear ya. I guess ill just try voodoo and update just for ****s n giggles and reroot if I have to. Is that reroot forum clearly titled or if not, do you have its link?
While im at it, will the xposed framework still work after ota or any concerns?
Any response to the above? Also, is it a prerequisite to unfreeze apps?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. Don't take the OTA. I know you said you have no interest in flashing roms, but why limit your options now when you don't know what the future will bring. Plus even if you do take the ota and gain root, you cannot mess with the kernel. If it was me, I would just download the stock root deodexed version of me7.
I originally updated from MI1 to MJ7, which was a stupid move, but just wondering if there is anyway to downgrade back in order to have full root and benefits?
I want to restore my phone and if I can go back, that would be great, because I don't want to go forward because if there is a new upadte it would make it worse instead of better, in terms of rooting.
Please advise

Just keep taking OTAs up to MK2 (The latest). From there you can root and install safestrap (and a safestrap compatible rom). You cannot flash AOSP roms; the bootloader is locked down post MDK. This thread is pretty much all you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606501
so can mk2 be rooted?

Its probably relevant to your interests no?
This is the second time someone has linked you to it. I promise you if you READ THE WHOLE THING before asking anymore questions, you wont have questions to ask.

Yes. Search for "Saferoot". I can't stress enough....... RESEARCH FIRST. It will save you a lot of headaches.

alright, one last question because it is NOT listed in that thread,
Where can i download the mk2 to load it manually because i am not a verizon customer but have a verizon s4 which i use with tmobile so it does not allow me to do OTA because it keeps telling me that Service is temporarily unavailable.
Please advise

As linked to from the provided thead Customizing your Verizon Galaxy S4 - what's possible and what's not
Has links to the updates that it is possible to flash, see the recover by reflashing stock section.
Seriously, its a pretty expensive phone and you can totally ruin it. Not a bad idea to read through that info people keep trying to give you.
