hi im currently using samsung galaxy s3 i9300 with a 4.1.2 rooted version. Due to my phone wifi grey out issue, i made a backup using cwm recovery before i do anything that can solve the issue including factory reset. After backing up the file to my external storage card, i updated my firmware to 4.2.2 jellybean which had solved my wifi issue. Now the problem is that, how do i restore back my backup data which i had done with cwm recovery. My external sd card now have clockworkmod folder in it what should i do? and which version of odin and CF ROOT should i download? PLS HLP!

You don't restore data from one OS build to another .
But if you want to try you can choose advanced restore data only .
Any odin any CF root but use the same CWM as you backed up with .
Basic stickied faqs and guides are still free read them .

meaning that if i want back all my data including phone contacts, the only way to restore them is by downloading back 4.1.2 firmware to my phone and then root it with CF root then restore data using cwm recovery? Thanks anyway!

Titanium backup is what you're looking for, you can use the. xml method to restore call logs txt etc
Don't restore system data but apps /data should be fine
What you could do is restore your nandroid, run titanium, reflash, then restore

If you still have the NANDROID backup from CWM than you can try ADVANCED RESTORE from CWM.
Go to Advance Restore and just restore the DATA from the nandroid backup.
It will just restore your data but it will not change your OS 4.2.2 But IT MIGHT GIVE YOU SOME FORCE CLOSES as the data that you backed up is from 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. But it is worth try. If it doesnt work than you can flash the whole backup again anyways... Hope it works...

i am new to all this but managed to flash kh3 and root it.
i paid for the pro version of titanium and backed up everything on my galaxy s2 but it backs up to SD. isnt this the internal sd storage and thus would wipe when flashed with another firmware?? i looked into the CWM that came with the firmware but this is just a recovery console isnt it?
i guess i need some guidance of how to properly backup but maybe i want too much. i really was thinking along the lines of a ghost image of everything even things like APN settings etc.
any help appreciated guys.
The sd card isn't wiped when you install any other firmware.
The recovery console has a backup/restore feature, it makes an image of the firmware and software that's installed on the phone.
when i clicked the backup part of cwm it took me to the recovery console where it had factory reset, wipe partition ( or whatever it said) etc etc, i didnt then see it do a backup?
cheers mate

Sounds like you only have Recovery console & not CWM. If you had CWM, you would see tons of options.
I always have a backup of my current ROM in CWM it's absolutely essential in case things go wrong which they have on occasions, i also back up my apps weekly witt Titanium Backup and delete the previous backup.

Which kernel are you using?
kh3 from intratech's thread.
i downloaded rom manger and did the top option to get the latest cwm i think but when i tried to backup it errored and i had to press home to restart??
I just use titanium, backup all my apps to external sd card.
Format phone or install a new rom, and just restore all apps with 1-click via titanium.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but what the heck.
I have Titanium backup and it backs up to Dropbox. Now if I Flash a new ROM, how do I go about restoring the backup?
In WinMo I have a backup program that created a zipped up file of backups and a small exe file that unpacked and restored the files (complete restore, ROM upgrade restore, etc).
Should use both!

Batch restore.
Left button at the bottom of your phone > batch
Restore all from there.
If you set your folder location to an external sd card, you can format or install a new rom and your apps wont be touched. You can do a batch restore of all your apps from within titanium.

Well that's your problem, your using a stock kernel, use cf-roots kernel that has cwm already built in.
cheers guys
Combine titanium media sync with titanium backup and you are sorted.
I have set automatic backup once a week, all is then synced via dropbox when i connect my phone on charger. This way I also backup all the pics and videos I take.
One thing I was wondering is there anyway to have titanium and premiere key backed up initself....in the sense that whenever I restore I always have to go to market get the key and the titanium app then started restoring...maybe I could go to my storage install them from there then reinstall instead off faffing with the market?
apologies if this is a silly question
I have the key on my external sd card .

Hi guys, I was wondering is it possible to use Titanium Backup to make a full backup of my S2, and when i say full backup, I mean a Full Image of the Smartphone?
Like we can do with a PC or Mac?
If yes can someone point me to a guide?
If not, is there any app capable of doing it?
Thanks in advance.
No. Titanium cannot do this. A nandroid (CWM) backup is the closest thing to this; backs up everything except your external SD card & modem. It is essentially a 'snapshot' of the phone at the time you took it & if you restore one, it will revert your phone almost exactly to the state it was in when you took the backup (apart from the external SD card & modem if you've changed it as previously mentioned).
No, it is not possible to do a total 'image' of an Android phone as you would a PC, but if you do a Nandroid backup & also Titanium backup your apps regularly (either weekly/every few days or before you make changes to your setup), that will enable you to either recover or revert any changes quickly/easily.
Thanks for your help.
You're welcome
Just one more thing....if your on 4.1.2 make sure you bkup preload or nand wont restore.
Backup of S2.
Hello, i too would like to find a "way" or a "guide" to do a full backup of everything on my phone with a single click. Yes I'm New to it all... and before i rooted with siyah i backed up my phone via (KIES) followed the youtube root video Yep! Rooted my phone happy as larry THEN BANG! Kies wont recognise my device! Backup On My Pc USELESS! and yes i am at my wits end to try recover them text messages but ive started from scratch now on the dark side, now i wouldent mind a FULL BACKUP of everything .. except sd, so i can bring my phone back to samsung land get my contacts etc.. then cross back over to the darkside.
list of installed apps:
titanium , es file explorer , mobile odin , my files (lol) , air droid , spooffw , busybox , triangle away , sms backup & restore , bluetooth file transfer +++ more tried everything lol.
Thanks For Reading!
For 4.1.2 go with philz kernel. Go into recovery and tick preload Bk up and you will have a working nand on stock jelly bean read about it:thumbup: For custom Roms like cm aokp id use dorimanx 9.whatever and use hawkerpauls preload Bk up and restore scripts. Or you could just use hawker scripts for both jb and custom Roms.check to see if what ever your backing uses preload.
i know there a thousands of tutorials for backing up your imei/efs folder.
ive tried it with two methods (efs root programm for galaxy s3 and with terminal emulator)
both failed. so i was full of anger and i hoped i can restore with a original samsung firmware with odin.
it was successfull.
so my phone is now stock and unrooted
but i still want to root my phone and flash cyanogenmod.
please can someone can poste me a link with step by step tutorial for efs backup that is already successfull?
and another question. is it normal when i wipe (Data reset/factory restore) that the internal sdcard will be wiped?
that happend with my phone.
before i got the galaxy s3 i have owned a galaxy s2. ive flashed and flashed an there were no problems with efs, etc.
**** samsung...
Ask in the EFS/IMEI thread that's why its open all the information in one place .

You can restore it this way mate. Just need a root explorer. Works with any format.

You can back it up the same way by just copying the EFS folder to the internalSD card also.
Sup guys,
I got a little problem here, I want to have my old back up back cause my agenda/calendar is there. I need it badly before this friday so I thought i'll restore the back up with CWM. At the end of the restore progress I get an error.
Error restoring /data. So I tried the next:
- Deleted dalvic-cache of the backup.
- Installed 4.1.2 back again and tried restoring
- Used same CWM version with back up and restore.
Would you guys help me outta here, I really need that google agenda (all things were saved on the phone, not online. )
Thx
Did you update to 4.3 then restore a nandroid from 4.1? If so then then the internal sd card mounting may be your issue, try formatting the internal sd before restore.
Or use titanium backup/philz recovery to restore just the files you need from the backup, instead of the whole thing. If you you had used Google agenda then it would all be saved in your account.
Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. And yes, I tried also to restore the backup from 4.3 but it didn't work. So I went back to 4.1.2 and neither that worked.
About the philz recovery. With which one can I restore just the files I need? THat would be great.

ANd yes I didn't save it online, but saved on my phone. With the thought aahh I already made a back up of everything so no problem.
alternative:
you could try the app "nandroid manager". it is able to browse through your nandroid backups and to restore single apps together with their data.

I've had some lost notes as well. My cwm backup file wasn't corrupted, but I still thought it was a lot of effort for a list/note or three to cwm restore twice. My conclusion was that it sadly was the only way to get them back. Restoring an app (through titanium) like notes will only work if you're on the same rom. So it should work on your s2 with a factory reset only. My guess is you should fix your titanium backup if it's not restoring properly.
I tried to look into the titanium backup files of my note app with no success but maybe you're better than me.
Its my battery problem it is spoiled sometime when I use camera phone restarts..

you can maybe check the battery replacement options or maybe try a different rom as some of the rom have a bug that causes the phone to restart or go in a boot loop when any app is launched
also u can get your kernel settings checked cause they might not be compatible with the rom
battery replacement is recommended only if its run out of its recharge cycles
happy that i could be of help to you
hit thanks if i helped
