I had been running Jelly Beans V5 on my Note 2 since I had it and was problem free except for when I was in a call and hit KEYPAD. The keypad comes up but the #,0,* keys were covered my the lower menu keys.
This weekend I upgraded to Build 20 and still have the issue. I've searched for a fix, but have not found much on this. Does anyone know if I can get this corrected? I have tried different Dialers from the play store and they do not fix this.
Sorry if its a known issue or easy fix, but I could find nothing on this when I searched.

Are you running any DPI adjustments?
I'd try to adjust the DPI.
Are you using softkeys by chance too?

I am not using Softkeys. I'm not familiar with DPI adjustments, but I will research that. Thanks for the lead!

Solved! It was the DPI tip that led me to correcting this. I adjusted the DPI settings for the phone but didn't see a change. From what I read Samsung apps can't be changed? Anyhow, I opened buil.prop and changed the phone DPI from 320 to 280. This corrected my dialer. Then I changed Nova launcher from 280 to 320 to get my phone back to what I was use to.
I found someone that had the same issue and basically followed his steps. But it was the DPI tip that led me to that thread.

People are going to need more info to answer your question. LIke what rom are you using and what's the exact name of the app you're using. From the screen shot it looks like Live Hold'Em. It's doing that to me on cm7. Alot of the roms are using a screen density of 161 which causes issues with some apps, but if you put it to the default of 160 it causes issues with the market.

You can either change the build.prop file or you can just download the lcd density app here. https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.lcddensity&feature=search_result
Change it to 160 let it reboot and you should have all your buttons, but you will probably break market so you would have to change it back to 161 whenever you want to update or check your apps in market.
161? Default should be 160 on TNT Lite and VEGAn (tmk).
I am having the same issue, on Vegan 5.1.1

I noticed on Vegan 5.1.1 my swift key beta tablet keyboard was smaller which was usually because the dpi was set to 161. I know on VeganTab Ginger it's 160 but that has those market problems till you change it to 161, which messes up that keyboard and google reader again.
I may have spoke out of turn about 5.1.1 because I never actually checked the number. I know the cm7 rom I'm using defaults to 161 but changing it to 160 still lets market and maps work correctly
Edit: forgot to mention I tried it at 160 on cm7 rom I'm using and it still has the bottom row cut off. I would assume it's a problem with the app since it didn't work with any of the roms I tried on my gtablet until their last update.
Thank for the info, i went all the way down to 150...still no go
darn I like this game, wife likes it even more and its her tablet
Hello, has anyone had any success with modifying the screen density on a Samsung Galaxy player 5.0?
I'm rooted and considering using an app such as LCD Density Modder Pro or perhaps even manually editing the build.prop file. Before I do this I'd like to know if anyone has also tried this and how successful it was.
The reason why I ask is because after a forum search I found that someone had tried unsuccessfully to do so: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18045727&highlight=density#post18045727
Thanks
Well, I did it on my 4.0 using font changer, worked fine, just made a lot of apps not work right so I undid it.

Changed the Density on my 5.0 to 200 and i actually like the slightly more scaled down nature of everything. You might run into a button or two that's slightly off because of this but in general the pros outweigh the cons.

Thanks, what app did you use?
I used Root Explorer to change the density directly from the build.prop file. It just seemed like a better idea than using an application to do it for me.

Okay, I'll try that
You guys should try and post some before and after screenshots. Would be interesting to look at.
This was already discussed, with several screenshots, in a thread called "Has anyone played with the LCD Density of the 5.0?" in the General forum. Sorry, I can't post links yet. The last update was 23/1/2012.
The last days I was playing a little bit with the density on my phone. At first you want to know which ROM I'm using. > CM9 latest build. I would like to set my density to 178 or also to 170, these are densities, the phone can show without a blurred screen, or blurred icons. Everything works fine and looks bombastic! But the problem is, that the phone.apk keeps crashing.
Everything is working until a density of 190. Below this value, phone.apk crashes everytime you start a call, or are called.
I know this problem is not new, but other threads are not answered and very old.
So... Anyone knows, whats the problem? Why it is. And how we could fix it?
I will try to disable compatibility mode in spare parts, but I don't think that it will work.
Anyone knows a workaround or maybe has a modded phone apk for ics?
Thanks in Advance!
EDIT: As I thought, compatibility mode won't change anything.

I don't know how to solve your problem man,but I suggest you give exDialer a go.It's as smooth, functional and cool-looking(even has an ICS theme available) as the ICS dialer. It'd make for a good alternative until you find the solution.
i'm using 185 on cm9 and phone.apk is working great for me.

The problem is that it isn't the dialer that crashes, but InCallScreen. exDialer still uses the default InCallScreen, so it still crashes.

I believe it breaks once you go below 182. If you were to drop your density to 180, you'd see the crashes, too.
hi,
i read very often about reducing density from twohundred and xxx to one hundred and xxx.
but nobody explained, whats the advantage of reducing this.
can somebody explain to me please?
regards - sui
As everything's a bit smaller, more stuff fits on the screen.
its a problem which isnt even fixd in the latest cm9 build so no, wait for fix!
But when everything is smaller, the widgets wont fit on the homescreen... ?

I want to change the LCD Density on my Galaxy Mega 6.3 that natively has 240 DPI resolution. Its all a bit small for me and some apps doesn't even scale properly and are ridiculously small and not properly displayed. I come from an old original Galaxy Tab 7 (that also natively has 240 DPI resolution but with with much more readability and larger everything as it has a larger display with a lower resolution LCD)
I am using an app called Resolution Changer (and have tried a few other similar apps that do the same job and work fine) to set the the phone to 260 or 280 DPI.At these resolutions (for me) the Mega is much more usable and all looks bit bigger and better on screen. Even the formatting of some apps that at 240 DPI look awkward and have some elements displaced or ridiculously small, at 260 or 280 DPI look MUCH better.
Everything works perfectly well at these settings except the Samsung Phone/Contacts/Messaging & Camera apps that FC. The Messaging and Camera apps don't matter because I simply use a 3rd party app and the problem gets instantly solved. However the Phone/Contacts app is a real problem because the phone becomes useless as "phone".. and using a 3rd party dialer doesn't fix the problem because these add-on dialers still need the native phone app to actually make/receive a call (basically Android 3rd party dialers are actually just a skin on top of the native phone app).
Is there a known workaround for this? I have no idea how to fix this and think that Samsung locking their apps at a fixed resolution that cant be changed is really stupid. Samsung makes great hardware and horrible software..
Thanks in advance for any feedback or solution on this on how to make it work.
Have you tried this?

I still haven't done it. The problem is I have no idea where to get these files. I guess my best optionis to download an S3 4.2 ROM and try extract them.. would be a lot easier if someone could share these files already from an S3 ROM. But so far no luck. I have no idea what ROM to choose or if then I can simply extract the apks with WinRAR or another zip utility.. so this is where I am right now..
I rooted my Ultra. Changed DPI to 240 - LOVE IT! Still on stock rom.
Most of the app adapted ok for new DPI but some not.
Installed "Exposed" and managed to get some good result adjusting Clock, Swift keyboard etc
Problem is the sistem Dialer (screen shot attached)
It's not actually a dialer.... It's the screen when the call is in progress.
I tried different 3rt party dialers but as soon i press call from any dialer i see this screen.
It is always in portrait mode.
It is usable but it looks ugly and needs to adapted for new DPI.
How can i adapt this screen to 240dpi using Expose?
What sistem app i need to modify.?
Thanks in advance for help.
in Exposed, have you tried changing Android System's dpi?
Verry interested by changing the DPI on the official rom.
What's the best way to do this ?
Just root the device and change the DPI setting in the build.prop ?
Using app setting I changed the phone and phone/messaging apk to 320dpi and screen to 480x854 also do the same for the contacts. Reboot and call yourself should be back to normal.

Only works for portrait. Landscape screws it all up.
