Q: WiFi does not work at home - HTC Amaze 4G

Hi, I have had my amaze since it first came out. Just about 2 months ago, I am having a problem connecting to my home WiFi. I used to be able to connect no problem. I connect at work just fine. I have searched many times for a fix, and none have worked so far (From what I found, that is) I am S-Off and Running NRGZ28 4.0.3 rom with Faux Kernel 31. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am hitting my 5GB data cap in about 2 weeks now that I cant use my home WiFi Thanks!

Ok, so I went back to complete stock and still can't connect at home. I was able to connect at the gym today and at work as usual. I have no idea whats going on.

Are you sure it's your phone that's causing the problem??
Does Wi-Fi work fine on your computer connected at home?
That can explain the source of the problem. If it's a home problem, call your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Seems like your router problem.Try if you have accidentally disabled wlan in your router settings..Or reset your router

solved
So I figured out the problem. Apparently someone that uses our main computer somehow banned my Mac address from my cell phone. I never thought about that till this morning. Every other computer and device worked normally so I didn't think about security. Anyways, thanks all for the input. That's why this forum is so great.

Did you try the new super Sense rom yet?
It has aroma installer now, and wifi calling is fixed. It also has adblocking pre-configured and it's cool.

Same, it worked 6 hours earlier and when I came back to school it won't connect I tried alot of things to fix but I couldn't so I used another rom, that fixed it got me
obtain ip fix?
I ran into this issue today while updating my T mobile vibrant . I attempted to find various work a rounds . I saw one blaming the kernel , one blaming the dhcp list which does not exist for me. In the end I just used a massively complex sequence of tricks that may leave you stupefied by the sheer complexity . I changed my routers name . I figured if the problem was from something using old data about my router that i can not find. Why not change it's name so it thinks it is a different router ? This worked flawless for me and a few others . It may for someone else too so i posted about it . Thats what the forums are for .
Later .
Have you guys rebooted the phone?.
That should clear the IP address from the phone.
If the router does not have any issues with other devices, maybe is something wrong with the rom. Maybe you should look for more info in the rom's thread

[Q] WIFI rare problem on Galaxy S2

Hello everyone
I have a Galaxy 2, everything worked great, and one minute for no reason WIFI stopped working, I mean when I turn on the WIFI device starts scanning the network, the scan takes about 20 seconds (of course, no network is) and then the WIFI is turning off by himself.
Besides, everything works, BT,GPS ,also I can get and receive calls correctly.
I Changed for several versions of the modem, dozens of times ,I tried HARD RESET RECOVERY way -- nothing works.
my current state as a pic below
I'd like to accept any idea and help
Thanks all
PLEASE
Please, someone must help urgently
By the way, can it be a hardware problem with only WIFI not working ??

Hi there porusski!
The best thing to do is to take your phone to your seller, Galaxy S2 has a two year warranty. They should fix it or replace your phone, it shouldn't take more than 10 days.

Do you have a Netgear router by any chance, cos they suck balls, and as a general rule, will not connect properly to an Android device.

Hello guy's,
I took my phone to the carrier and after lab check they told me that wifi module is move physically on the board -- they say that reason is bad flashing of rom or modem... Does it make sense to someone?? Because i flash just one time in day when i by the phone - and it was work perfect 3 weeks....
wifi module moved physically??
im having the same issue here, will be sending it back to the seller soon
tried almost everything possible solution, nothing works..

Yes, you believe that crap? Their answer was not credible, there is no chance to move physically

I was previously using a Huawei router. It kept disconnecting from the internet, so I changed it over to a Netgear DGN3500. I've had nothing but problems connecting the Galaxy S2 to the router over wifi. Keeps going between one bar and no bars, and disconnecting, even I'm not that far away from the router. In order to get 3 bars and a good signal I have to be directly next to the router.
Same issue here
Hi all,
I have the exact same issue, also tried wiping everything and switching rom/kernel/modem, also tried restoring to a nandroid when everything worked perfectly and still wifi doesn't work. I noticed that the wifi services are not running also.
It stopped working gradually after working great for a long time, sometimes I was able to connect sometimes don't, until it stopped working at all.
Do you have any updates on your situation?
Interesting. I seem to be having the same issue. I can connect to the router fine but it wont let me browse or download anything. 3G is working fine.
I will try and swap ROM (again) to see if it solves.
SOLVED

Wifi Problems

Today when I got home from work I noticed that my phone was not able to access the internet when I was on Wifi. I turned off wifi and it worked fine on 3G, but as soon as I turned wifi back on it wouldn't access the internet.
I first tried rebooting the phone and had the same issue. I then hit the "forget network" button and re-entered my password and whatnot and still nothing. It says I am connected and have excellent signal, what the heck is going on? Anyone run in to this?
I am 100% stock BTW.
EDIT: It is working now, that was really weird.
Glad it worked itself out for ya. This happened to me today at home also. Turns out qwest was doing maintenance or something on their servers and it was an ISP issue. I noticed after I tried browsing on my computer.

This used to frustrate me a lot, too. I have FiOS at home with 3 IPhones, about a half-dozen Android devices, and OSX and Windows. And I would have this happen regularly.
The solution was to set up DHCP reservations for all the MACs in my household.
FiOS provides a pretty crappy router, which you must use. Even after setting up reservations, the router has to be restarted every few months.

Galaxy S III Wifi Issue

Hey guys!
I'm not sure if this is my router problem, or my phone, but most likely my phone.
The wi-fi keeps continue to connect, and disconnect.
Here is the thing. When I bought the phone brand new, my phone behaved normal regarding the wifi, but when I flashed to a XXLF2, and using Checkrom with Siyah kernel, the wifi kept continue connect/disconnect all the time, so I gave another shot just reflashed everything to stock of XXLF2, still same problem.
Now, yesterday, I was flashing a new rom XXLF6, and then Omega rom, the wifi problem was still the same, so I gave it another try and just flashing the stock XXLF6, but the problem didn't either went away. I tried Ninphetamine kernel didn't help much either.
Anyone know what's going on??? You think it's hardware issue here, or something with the rom?
Hope someone could please help me out!
Thanks a lot!
Hi,
I not have the exact answer to you, but I think it is a hardware issue!! I have 2 router in my house (with the same ssid) with my SGS2 there is never problems when I cross the zones, it connects straight away to the other router. BUT with SGS3 it is a pain in the a..... I often need to turn on and off wi-fi several times before it can connect!!!! I think the 2 identical router confuse the SGS3....but not the SGS2 or my Tab. If there is only 1 router it connects straight away......
Yeah! That is actually what I was thinking too. It might be the hardware fault! I'm going to contact Samsung tomorrow, and see what's going on!
I have the exact same prob really annoying, but wifi driver is in kernel.I sometimes get "error bad connection " message.
Doesn't matter what kernel I use though.

Do you guys Have ram booster or any other app the like? Ram optimización turns wifi off...
No, but I do hit Clean Memory in the task manager quite often (because presto library is a piece of junk!) maybe that turns it off. I'll test tonight...
I'm also having the same issue, disconnecting, but appears connected in the Wifi settings. I have to go in and turn of power saving mode, but it comes back on after reboot.
Logicalstep
I had this wifi disconnect reconnect issue at work, but never happens at home. I initially thought it was some app I installed, I removed them and still happens at work, but not at home. All the phone settings mentioned here didn't make a difference.
I don't change anything on my phone, so I chuck it to incompatibility, and not an issue with my phone or it's settings.
Home Netgear WNDR3300 pretty much default settings.
The new firmware update XXLFB seems to update radio firmware and kernel. Maybe that will fix the problem.
Has anyone tried this?
Flash the rom and see if it helps.

What radio/modem version did you end up with, my UBLF2 (TTT) stayed the same after the update applied.
I had issues at work. But not at home.
Today I told it to forget my B/G radio and to connect to the N radio. No disconnects, none..
No changes made to the phone at all..
2 phones - only 1 with wifi issues
Hi, noob here. I have been following this issue on androidforums.com (same user name) but since the "fix" came from this site I thought I'd share my relevant info here as well.
My husband and I received 2 Verizon SIII's (32GB) this weekend. Mine works great. His, however, has the wifi disconnect issue. The *#0011# is only a temporary fix for him.
So, for what it's worth, it's not likely to be a router problem, since 1 phone has no wifi issues and the other does.
We talked to Verizon at lunch today and they were interested in the problem and will be calling us at home this evening, with a Samsung rep. I'll post more once we've heard from them. For now though, Samsung does not have it listed as a "known" issue since there haven't been enough reports on this bug.

Low wifi signal - Hardware or Software.

I am currently experiencing horribly low wifi reception. Sitting right next to the router the signal jumps from full to low randomly and it doesn't catch any wifi in spots where my other devices do. What do I do? Same happened in 4.3 and 4.4.2.
I already did factory reset, switched from Auto to 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, same happens (Well, no wifi with 5GHz band.). My router is okay, other devices catch the signal two floors down, while this can't keep it stable right next to it.
Screenshot of me sitting right next to the router.

I'm seeing the same problem. As much as I love the design, both the Wi-Fi and Cell reception are the worst I've ever had on a phone. HORRIBLE.
could be any number of issues. each persons environment is different.
i have a linksys wrt 1900 AC router and I use all 5ghz devices and the one max works wonderfully on the 5ghz spectrum.
could be an issue with your radio in the phone itself. im stock non rooted latest update.
The cell reply is great, I have nothing to say about it. However, I took it to the dealer and they'll change the wifi chip, we'll see how it'll go.

Do you have any (good) news from your dealer ? I have the same problem as snapz54. WiFi speed is about 10x slower than my 10 cm distant laptop when I'm not really close to my AP and EDGE/3G/HSDPA/4G data works well only 1 min if I'm in luck when i reset my connection (airplane mode on/off). The rest of the time, well... See joigned screenshot...
I tried stock 4.3, 4.4.2 Sense 5.5 & 6/CM/PAC/NuSense ROMs with stock/FlyKernel/built-in kernels and 4T.21.3218.31_10.16.1718.01L (3.15.1540.1) / ?Don't remember? (3.14.707.3) radios with no luck.

Got my HTC back. They fixed it, but flashed a different, Asian region (default language was chinese, many weird apps installed by default),ROM. Now I want to flash a stock ROM with no weird apps pre-installed and no weird languages. Is there a way to do this? The only thing I could think of is flash Cyanogenmod, then back to stock. Just where can I find stock HTC roms? There's nothing like Sammobile for HTC :l

Right, now I am in trouble. Flashed ROM, forgot to wipe data (maybe it does have to do somehing with the problem.), booted, got decryption password because of "unable to mount /data". Went back to recovery and restored my old stock ROM. However, decryption screen still persists, leaving me able to use lockscreen only. The problem is that this rom has USB debugging off and Fast Boot on and I can't change that because of the password requirement, so I can't use ADB or boot into recovery using keys. What do I do to get into recovery?

Hold volume down while phone is booting. Should do the trick. That will get you into fastboot which allows you to get into recovery.
Holding Vol Up + Vol Down + Power while phone was on did the trick, as it restarted and while it was resarting I did Vol Down + Power and voila, problem solved.
