Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300 locked to Orange-UK and I want to root it with Odin3-v3.04 and using CF-ROOT SGS3-V6.2.ZIP
Do i have the right files
( I also have Odin3 v.1.85 downloaded on my pc in case i need to use that one instead)
Android : 4.0.4 ICS
Baseband: 19300BVLE4
kernel: 3.0.15-554502-user
[email protected]
SMP PREEMPT
And I want to install Cyanogenmod on my device, do I need to unlock bootloader?
Please tell me if it will work, I don't want to end up with a bricked device.
People at androidforum.com didn't even reply to my post so plz help me.
*Because the phone is locked to Orange I can still root + install roms right?

Pointless doing any of the above until you have read the basic stickied guides and faqs or you will end up with a bricked device .
This is XDA Developers forum we don't spoon feed you are expected to learn some basic lessons first .

Hello Everyone,
First of all my appoligies if I am posting this at the wrong place and also because I have been warned in several threads not to post a new thread unless I am sure that I have to.
The reason I am posting this is because I am very confused by the root process, below is the reason why
I have a Galaxy S II I9100G with me and I first went to this thread to root my kernel, the problem I have there is that My About phone section does NOT show the Kernel Version as advertised in the thread, all I see is this " 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2 ". So I didnt know which CF-Root file to choose as I dont want to brick my phone.
Secondly The Instructions seems to be posted in the I9100 section and not in the " I9100G Android Development " section which also confuses me as whether I should be using those instructions or not.
So please guide me towards what file from the CF-Root to use or what my kernel version is, or any alternate kernel if this one isnt right for me
Here Is all the info I can get for my phone
Baseband Version: I9100GXXKL4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLB1
PDA: I9100GXXlb1
PHONE: I9100GXXKL4
CSC: I9100GDBTKL2
Again sorry for the creation of this thread if its against the rules but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Good to ask before flashing the wrong kernel to your phone.
I do not recommend to flash a GT-I9100 kernel to a GT-I9100G.
Have a look here for another rooting method => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105
Here is a rooting thread specially for the GT-I9100G => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679778
P.S.: To see your current kernel version, you can also have a look at your Build version number or dial *#1234# into your phone, then check the PDA version. This is usually the same as your kernel version, when you are still on stock firmware.
In your case => XXLB1, which is Android 2.3.6 (GingerBread).

Thank you for clearing it up for me that I have LB1, I previously thought I had KL4 and was going to flash KL3 kernel on my phone.
One last thing, there are a lot of methods on the 2 links you provided and most of them for ICS phones, can you point me to the one which I should be using and is the simplest, I would be greatful
regards
I sugest you use method 1 as it is the simplest and does not involve to many confusing procedures for you.
many thanks mate for all the help, method 1 works like a charm, the only thing left it a yellow rectangle which I will figure out, now its time for me to look for cool roms
Hello to every1
I am a newbie to android, I recently bought a GT-I900 and I would like to root the phone and install a custom stock firmware.
phone details are as:
Baseband I9100NELS1
Kernel Version:3.0.31 [email protected] #3
Build number: JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
the phone is also locked to three network UK
Please help me on how to root it and install a custom firmware as I hate all the apps that come preinstalled with.
1) This is a question, so post in the Q&A-section, or ask a moderator to move this.
2) Your android version is (surprise!) 4.1.2, so look for guides to root JB.
3) For further questions: read the whole General section for information.
Damn, the WHOLE general forum?
Boy he's in for a few allnighters

this is the best guide out there. rooted mine and girlfriend's S2 with it
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...t/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html
Doomlord oneclick is tge safest way.
Framaroot app could also work as it's an exynos exploit.
Above poster, stick to xda threads.

Did you even read the thread ?
Follow the instructions in the thread to upgrade your phone to stock JB, root it, download your custom rom of choice, follow the instructions on the first page of the thread devoted to that rom in order to flash it.
Hi there,
I have a question that may seem silly since I am using an S2 for almost a full year, so here it goes:
I am now in the possession of a S3 GT-I9300 and I would like to root it. The firmware model can be seen in the attached print-screen.
Q1: Is there a way to root it from SD, without needing to use CF-Root and Odin (I have found this file CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip but i don't know if it's the right way to proceed as I have rooted directly from stock recovery on my S2)
Q2: I have been reading and there are devices with locked bootloader and others with unlocked bootloaders, and it seems that if you flash one for the other you will probably brick the device. Is there any way to tell what kind of bootloader you have?
Thank you and sorry if my questions seem trivial to you,
Doru

1. There maybe some flash zips that auto-roots your phone without using odin but CF-Auto root is one of the safest way to root.
2. The international model (GT-I9300) is always bootloader unlocked. The root will not damage any part of your bootloader but if you brick your device then i'm 100% sure that you flashed the wrong file. If you want to know what version of bootloader you have then download the app called Android System Info on Google Play.
baseband version or build number is important in this rooting process ? i have gti9300 ,on 4.1.2 and
baseband version - I9300DDEMG2

It doesn't matter what baseband you have. It has nothing to do with the rooting process.

This should be my first try to root my SGS2 .
I began with watching root videos and figuring out which is the way to go. I ended up with this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCgncF59mwE
In the tutorial I needed to download an "Insecure" Kernel, so I went to the refered Link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619525) and followed to the site with the kernel versions(http://d-h.st/users/LyriquidPerfection/?fld_id=2886#files).
I searched through all of them but I couln't find mine so I searched on this forum for threads with the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909611
In this thread I should look at my BuildNo. but my Build called "[...]XWLSD" is not in the list with the Insecure Kernels!
Another thread included a link to this Kernel(http://www.gokhanmoral.com/) which should fix this problem, but as I am a real noob in Phone rooting etc. I can't tell if it is true.
The Question: Which Kernel should I get?
I really hope you can help me on this problem, here are my Phone-Specs:
Kernel: 3.0.31-889555 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 31 14:48:54 KST 2013
Build: JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
Android: 4.1.2
Model: GT-I9100

Sorry but I couldn't find any threads by searching after "Flash Stock firmware/ROM + Root", Flash Stock firmware + Root and "Flash Stock ROM + Root"
Could you please post the link to the related thread here?
Um, no, I will not.
If you can't find the thread stickied 8 threads above yours in Q&A, you shouldn't be messing with your phone in the first place. If experience is any guide, you'll probably break it.
