The Gallery app that comes with my S III shows all sorts of "junk" folders that are created by apps (e.g. Re-Volt creates a "LOADING" folder with images, another app has created a "cache" folder etc.).
Is there a Gallery replacement that allows you to hide certain folders?
I think QuickPic allows this. Any more?

I'm pretty sure that hides things by moving them. If they're folders generated by other apps then that would be a bad idea.
My advice would be to use a file explorer (ES, Root Explorer etc.) and create a file called ".nomedia" in each folder. That tells the system to ignore that folder in media searches, but if the gallery apps you use parse the folders themselves then it probably won't work. I've had mixed success with that, but it works for stock gallery apps.
simply rename the folder to .foldername(suppose the name is foldername). the app would simply skip the folder.
you dont need a special app for this.

That's because you're probably only capable of keeping images (photos & downloads etc.) in 1 folder so it doesn't parse the rest of the space for more

What is the average Quadrant Benchmark score for SGS II (without cheating, and on Stock Roms)? I tested mine today and the score came out as 3180 with 246 apps installed and 64 processes running. Is it good enough? How does the SGS II score compare with HTC Sensation and other peer phones?
And away from this topic, what is this .nomedia file in the data folder?

Android mediascanner skips folders and subfolders with such file. I e pictures and videos in that folder doesn't show in the gallery. Useful for your private pictures as well

The .nomedia that I have in my Android/Data folder is a File, not a folder. But I did not create it, so how did it get there and what is it? Could it have been created automatically by some app I installed? It does not open upon clicking.

sorry I was probably unclear, .nomedia is an empty file that simply tells the mediascanner that there are no interesting mediafiles in the folder where the .nomedia is placed (it also excludes subfolders from mediascanning). This is a general Android concept so it works like this on all Android phones. You can simply create an empty file (or copy an existing) with the name .nomedia and place in any folder you want to exclude.
For example, you don't want to see application sounds in the music player or application graphics in the gallery. And since Android/Data is only application data is makes sense to exclude that directory from the mediascanner.

Hello
I currently have a HTC EVO 3D, and on that phone I am able to create a folder named ".story" in my file manager app, and all the pictures i put in there will not be shown in the gallery app. Works very nicely and exactly how i want it to.
Now onto my issue.
I tried to do the same on my Prime, creating the folder, putting the exact same images in that folder (all from dropbox, syncing it to my comp, phone and tablet).
But the images still show up in the gallery app.
I also tried to put a file named ".nomedia" in the folder where i keep all my pictures, still didn't work.
I tried rebooting several times to see if i had to force a media rescan, but it seems like it didn't work.
I'm running .21 update, stock, with root.
Am i missing something, or doesn't this work on the prime? If so, any other way to do so? (I don't want to use a "vault" app to hide pictures and such)

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Try the app Hide it Pro. It's free on the Play Store and does pretty much what your asking for. It also works with videos, Docs and apps.
Sorry can't post links yet!
Edit: oops sorry, I didn't read the full post
it is annoying
You are not alone, naming the folder with a initial . and creating a .nomedia file does not work for me either, and I find it annoying. Clearing Gallery cache did not help either.
Works just fine, ".foldername" with a .nomedia file in it. Does for me at least, hides it from gallery and from the built in file manager. ES file explorer picks it up but it's at that point you're not hiding anything
EDIT: Try making a file on your computer, right click and New>File, name it .nomedia, then DropBox (that's a sign up link, you'd help me out as well as yourself by using it) it. Download it and copy/pasta to the folder. That's how I did it, because a guide I read said it worked better if from the PC instead of through Android.
If you're trying to hide a whole trove of things, make a folder and name it ".foldername" and then put your hidden folder in there and name it ".foldername2", then drop a .nomedia into .foldername and .foldername2 as well, doubling up on that.
I wouldn't recommend that with app picture caches though
If you are up for using a different Gallery app, you can whitelist and blacklist folders to be displayed in QuickPic

Now my files on my tablet is in a folder named ".story", inside that is a folder named "story" with a ".nomedia" file in it, and inside the "story" folder are all my pictures. (I made the ".nomedia" file on Windows, dropboxed it over to my Android Tablet (I made a new .txt document, removed the .txt and just named it ".nomedia" if anyone is wondering)).
After you try it, be sure to reboot your tablet, as that forces a media rescan
I've installed copilot on my asus prime and when i visit the gallery to view my pics it also shows pics from the copilot directory. Is there a way to remove this directory from the gallery, without actually deleting the pictures from the AP?
Thanks

Yup, QuickPic is the way!
It's included in the ROM I use on my phone
Never any issues, tons of options, and no lag!
Why didn't you simply create a blank file and name it .Nomedia
Put that file in the directory where you don't want to see the graphics and job done... they no longer show up in gallery.

Sorry Dave but I just don't get it! Why hog your system with an additional App that may take resources, battery etc. when you can do this quite easily by simply creating an empty file.

It doesn't hog resources or battery any more than the manual method - arguably, it probably use less battery because it is going to perform this action quicker than most people could probably perform the same action manually - after all, to create the file, you'll have had to run an application of some sort!
Using Gallery Excluder, I can exclude multiple directories simply by checking a box - as opposed to manually cut and pasting a file into each directory, which would take substantially longer if I have a lot of directories I want to exclude from the gallery.
It is quicker and easier to use an app, which is why I use one, and why I bought a smartphone in the first place!
Regards,
Dave

No Problem Dave.... you have your method which I respect as it clearly works great for you and I have mine which equally is my chosen method.
Cutting & Pasting may take a little longer than simply ticking boxes in an App but it didn't take me that long to complete something like 8 folders that required excluding and once they're done that is it, I do not have to concern myself with intervention of an app running/updating/etc.
Just got my phone. I've inserted an SD card that has a lot of music, and each album has an image for the album cover.
The problem is that the stock Gallery app reconizes each album folder as a gallery. Is there a way to exclude a folder from the media scanner?
This could be done by creating a File with the name .nomedia in the folders you want to exclude.
The media scanner should then ignore those folders.
hi
Create a folder .nomedia (include the full stop at the beginning) and move required files inside. Reboot
Edit, see answered above while I was procrastinating.

Should you create a file or folder with the name .nomedia????????
I have the same problem and creating a file ".nomedia" is not a good solution...
I have like 250 albums, I should create one in every album folder?
Thank you all for answering.
@UpInTheAir, what do you mean by "(include the full stop at the beginning)"

It seems not to work anymore. When you create .nomedia files in the folders this will be ignored. What worked for S1 and S2 does not work on S3 (Android 4.0.4) any ideas?

If the music files are formatted properly, they won't show in the gallery....period.
QuickPic is hands-down, the BEST photo gallery on Android.

U can name it what ever u want u just need to put a dot in front of whatever u name it and it would show up.
I found that renaming the images to folder.jpg for instance removed them from gallery view

That worked, but i really don't want to rename every single image manually nor i want to write a piece of code to do that.
Just installed QuickPic and it not even showed such "album art" images! automatically detected and hidden.
Stock gallery still showing them (even after quickpic installed)
Is there a way to clear the media scan cache and start it again (manually)?

the ".nomedia" file works. A reboot is needed though

is there any (rooted) app that can achieve the above? because the Pulse app's "save to Evernote" feature doesn't save the full text, i usually have to highlight all manually and copy/paste to Evernote. Even so, the pictures/videos are not copied along in the clipboard.
i'd need an app that can copy anything it highlights, in any app (including apps like Facebook).
all suggestions welcome!
