[Q] rooting - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
the Atrix 4G root thread has post 1 to download sbf and second post has preinstall.zip for international users and fast boot mode at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
The sbf links in post 1 on thread do not get me the sbf so owning ATT phone is it still ok to use post 2 steps to root ?
I learned to a script to do rooting but could not get its link. if some one has it please share.
Regards,
Miten.

If you really only want root, the preinstall image is all you need. No idea why you'd want to mess with some SBFs just for rooting.

I agree, the only reason you should be messing with an sbf is if you're going to unlock the bootloader to load a custom rom, or a last ditch effort to return to stock

[Q] Trouble with updating to 2.2

Hi all
I have a rooted phone and am trying to find a decent tutorial/walkthrough on how to update to 2.2.
I have looked at the original thread:
Installation:
1. Flash the zip package via xRecovery
2. Flash the Google Apps via xRecovery
3. Reboot and leave the phone alone until GSM/radio icon shows up (1-2 automatic reboots)
4. Enjoy
And this means nothing to me. Is there a tutorial anywhere with very simple step by step, easy to understand instructions???? ie a tutorial that takes you through EVERY single step in detail.
cheers
Well the first step would be to install x recovery using flashtool (pc app).... then reboot phone and when u see the Sony Ericsson symbol keep pushing the back button the phone will boot into xrecovery. Go down to install custom zip and. Then follow those very simple instructions u just posted since it really doesn't get anymore simple.
And then push my thanks button. Ur done lol
Now if u really can't understand the steps u posted u probably have no business doing this as its really simple.

first, you would need xRecovery
go on youtube and search 'xRecovery' and the video made by Bluechip is a VERY detailed tutorial for installing it.
As for the roms itself, all you need is to follow the instructions you have posted.

I have a question about this. Say I updated my baseband to .54 but I did not update my firmware. Would I still be able to install the ROMs that require baseband .54, or do I need both the baseband update AND the firmware update? Thanks in advance!!
i would think the best bet would be to do the full update firmware. but not sure.

Nothing Works.

Please help I've been following the instructions and have no idea what i could have gotten wrong so many times in a row

true but you weren't asking for help. So, please say where you are getting errors. I'd be happy to help out..

The bootloader and root process in this guide worked perfect. Whats steps in that guide were you having trouble with?
It will be great if you can put a screenshot of the error.

Go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
In the first post there is a link to Brief Mobile's Beginner's Guide. It is very similar to what you used but apparently the .sbf is different.
Once you have an unlocked bootlader you can take care of both the rooting and the webtop over HDMI hack with a custom ROM. I'm using Alien Build #4 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186537) and is working great. Some people report problems with the Alien theme, but you can use the ROM without the theme and still get the root and webtop hack along with some other goodies.
You will first need to install CWM. You can use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Then just boot into recovery and install the Alien zip.
Any problems you have are probably already solved in the Alien thread.

Read through the PUDDING (the first one I suggested) and the Alien ROM threads.. They're long but you'll probably find a solution there..
Also post what you're doing step by step and exactly when are you getting which error. You must be missing some step or doing something wrong because the whole process should be really easy, specially with an AT&T phone.

[Q] Re-root droid x2 after 2.3.4 OTA Update

To make a long story short... I let someone use my phone, they updated it to 2.3.4 . How do I obtain root privileges again? I don't need a step by step explanation. The quick version should get me on my way.
From what it seems I need to flash one of the Leaked SBF's? I just looked on the side of the box and I have S/W version 1.2.148.MB870. Do I need the SBF pertaining that that model?
Not to fear! You can root your OTA update and enjoy the benefits of 2.3.4! Google "Pete's one click root" and follow the instructions. It's VERY easy to do. Good luck.
Also, there are resources in the dev section.

As stated. Petes oneclick root method works fine.
But if u were EVER going to flash an sbf just make sure it is one you get from the X2 development forum ONLY.
If u try to flash an sbf for any other phone model u will be in for some trouble.

It was more of a cautionary statement to be careful if doing a search and you end up in the x forum by mistake seeing as they also have a gb sbf it can be dangerous when people just quick glance the forum they are in
I know I've almost made that mistake. Started to download the sbf and was like why doesn't this look right? Lol

Help a noob go back in time!

i know this is brought up alot on the forums and theres plenty of answers but im that much of a noob too flashing ect.. that i have no idea what any of these answers are talking about and i need someone to help me through how to do it...
I put gingerblur on my rooted atrix yesterday using this video
youtube.com/watch?v=MvC0C2h95BY&list=FLqfb2F1A2s4Z08JTFsWNuGg& index=4&feature=plpp_video (which involves CMW or something)
meaning i had no idea what i was doing just following step by steps on the video, and ever since my homescreen button and search button dont work and i no longer have a lock screen so i want to go back to stock because i dont like the bugginess!
my phone before i put it on gingerblur was 2.2.2 froyo on tmobile uk (unlocked device with no tmobile branding on the rear cover)
i would really apreciate it if someone could guide me how to turn it back to the software it came with or an official less buggy software please?
i checked my ota upgrade with gingerblur on the device and it says i can go to ATT gingerbread but then im sure this wouldnt work in the uk with the radio update but someone said i can do the ota then just flash the radio to a uk one but i had no idea what that means
im not sure at all what im doing with this and i wish i didnt follow the tutorial in the first place can someone help me please!
i just want to get back to stock or an official software that will work on tmobile uk and not brick my phone.
any helpe is appreciated thank you!
P.S i have CWM recovery does this have anything to do with restoring your phone how it was because it seems to have recovery options?
Did you unlock the bootloader? If you did, and have CWM, just install a ROM of your preference
If you want a hint on what ROM to choose,
Most of the ROMS available are based on 2.3, so consider going with CM7 if you like AOSP or Aura if you want blur
im not sure what a bootloader is all i can say i did was root my phone, then use that tutorial thats all iv done.. ohh ok so rather than being able to go back too a stable stock build i have to stay with roms full of bugs? :/
I'm gonna assume that you have tried a factory reset (most basic thing i could imagine)
I don't think that there are any SBFs for people with the T-mobile version, so i think the only thing you can do is either search for a removal tool or unlock the bootloader, install CWM recovery and then install a ROM.
You should read this. Or you can follow this video guide.
Actually, ROMs can often be very stable and offer way more functionality.
You could always grab a "stock" ROM and install that, should be as close to stable as you can get.
ohh ok well i already have CWM recovery install in my phone so i guess installing a stable rom would be the best option for me? until i can go back to stock by sbf
What version of CWM do you have? How did you install it?

Gingrrblur is not a real rom therefore you are not unlocked and do not have a full cwm that you can flash other roms with. Just use an sbf from the firmware thread to get you back to stock gb then if you want to find a radio corresponding to your area on the same thread. Both are flashed through rsd lite
sent from my Atrix via XDA premium
yes, Gingerblur is a pseudo-ROM (p-ROM) and from what I know, it doesn't touch alot of important parts of the phone, for example the bootloader.
I'm guessing your bootloader is exactly the same as a regular 2.2. I guess flashing the IHOP_Bell.sbf and then doing fastboot unlock should do the trick
ok we're getting somewhere
I kinda understand now so could you send me some links in the order I need to so each thing please? One thing I don't want to do is install software from at&t and then have the wrong radio lol from what IV found there's no T-mobile software but is some orange ones and seeing as tmobile and orange are the same company in the uk, so basically I could get official gingerbread software then a T-mobile radio software and put them both on my atrix now I just need to know how to do it

Easiest way to root a Samsung Galaxy S 2 GT-I1900 for a complete noob?

I am a complete noob when it comes to Android devices and I would like to root my SGS2 but I'm scared that I will mess up and 'Brick' my phone. Also what are the Pros and Cons of rooting a device?

Kernel Version : 2.6.35.9-1900XWKI8-CL616395

Use the latest version of SuperOneClick. You'll need some drivers, install KIES to get them.
The best way would be for you to go to the forum section dedicated to your device instead of asking in the wrong forum.

So, I see someone already helped you.To prevent this question being asked again, cuz its probably going to, the easiest way is flashing a CF root kernel with Odin [ the only thing you have to do is find the suitable version, turn the phone into download mode Volume Down + Menu + Lock button, then press volume up I think.
Connect the phone to the pc via usb, double click on odin, wait till it recognizes ur phone, load the CF root in the pda tab and click flash. You wait a minute and you are done.

I manged to do the whole rooting last night pretty smoothly (as well as unlocking it).

Gtg...good to go......cf root will install clockwork mod on your phone....meaning u wont need to use odin on your pc to flash another rom(unless its a tar: file......with cwm you flash using your phone by going in to the cwm app and selecting cwm recovery.....its much quicker than odin flashing.just make sure u make a backup before u flash

There are some good custom roms on android original development forum.
I personally use italian custom rom, gives you good battery life and looks. for more info please see this post "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162715"
you can always change the rom if you don't like it as long you have rooted your fone and you have CWM (Clock work mod) installed..
Happy flashing..
don't forget to press thanks button,,
You can use the CF-ROOT method. For me it has been the easiest, safest & quickest I have found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
If you dont find the exact version of your firmware, dont worry, try to use the most similar. It should work. As they say in the post, if you use more than 30 seconds in getting root, you need some practice.
