I was browsing around and I came in front of this, bascially its a LED flash solution for phones and tables, looks promising when you think about the lack of a flash for the sony z ultra, even though they say its a great night time camera.
What do you guys think? would this be worth it??
iblazr - The LED Flash for Smartphones and Tablets

If I need great dark shots, I would buy a Sony DSC-WX300 and connect it through WiFi and Sony PlayMemories to my Ultra. It is a small, compact camera that is easy to carry. With the PlayMemories app, it can be remote controlled by the Ultra - i.e. the Ultra is used as a viewfinder and shutter. That way, the camera can be put down in a stand or on something for a steady night shot while it is remote controlled.
I have considered this solution and think it is great.

im looking at it from a point view of carrying a small key chain attached flashlight that doubles as a flash for the Z Ultra when we need it, Would make things a lot easier.
I read about the iblazr a little while ago. Looks very promising. I only truly need/use flash for a flashlight, but I think i might just look for an app to make the screen completely white lol. If that fails, then I guess a simple plugin like iblazr. But for now I'm still waiting on more exposure for this phone before I decide to even buy it.

Dang, are you AND Jamie thinking about getting the ZU?? That would be insanely awesome! For sure this community would benefit from both your contributions to development (just like with the OG Note).

if i can come up with the money i will be i want the LTE model so ill have to wait since its on back order from negri so when it becomes available ill hopefully have my pennies saved. but yes if i get you can count on PACman!
That iblazr is pretty awesome, I'm not a fan of attachments, but if it works THAT much better than built in flash, I can go with that. Thanks for letting us know!
Does with work with any camera app though or do you have to use their specific ones?
Kinda bad if you can't use the default sony camera with the iblazr...
Can anyone confirm?
What about?

The one thing holding me back from flashing cm10 is the fact that I lose the TW camera. The HDR function in it works _so_ well.
I've tried a few free versions of various HDR apps and they all suck compared to the TW one.
Does anyone have experience with any of the ones on the market and can maybe share their settings?
HDR/MDR
I don't consider any mobile camera good. Any cheapest point-n-shoot will punch it in face. If u got SGS3 for camera - u r wrong.
I heard Photoshop can do HDR - so look into that. Also PlayMarket is a good source of information.
I disagree. The camera on this phone is more than adequate, and HDR is impressive

meh, camera is great for my neeeds.
as for ps doing hdr, you need an hdr image first for ps to be able to manipulate the exposure and b/w settings.
what is PlayMarket? Something that reviews playstore apps?

Any recent cheap point in shoot will do better in terms of IQ.
Having said that even cell phone cameras vary in quality and if you use them then you'd be silly not to take that into account if it is important to you, even if you've got another camera that is better.... nothing wrong with buying the S3 for the camera. Not sure how that would be "wrong".
the camera was like 70% of my interest in getting the S3. I have a nikon d7000 DSLR and know that the cell camera will never be able to get close to that beast but sometimes I don't want to lug around my dslr and having a cell that can take great pictures is a huge plus especially if you don't want to carry a point and shoot and a cell phone at the same time.

I had previously used PRO HDR on the OG EVO, and it worked great. The EVO 3D didn't support HDR apps at all. The GS3 has a great built-in HDR option, and tried PRO HDR again - the native one is better!
So for now I'm sticking with the stock camera (I'm rooted, but running stock until CM10 has a semi-stable build..).

Get Camera360! I love this camera, its free and so many effects and you can actually choose between a couple different HDR modes.
I consider this phablet as a very good option. This afternoon I was in the store and I was amazed about the size and design.
But I have two questions:
Can you tell me your user experience with the Xperia Z Ultra? You can tell me any bug present on the phablet too.
How I can replace the battery in damage situations? I am worried, the XZU has integrated battery, I have a device like this an device like this and it's life was of 6 months. And when I tried to find another battery, I only take this device to the trash, :crying: I don't find anything.
Are this type of phablets a good option? What life time it have?
Thanks in advance and good night.

There are batteries on the internet so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to change.
The biggest bug is that on stock ROM most (if not all apps) run in phone mode. The other is the, at best, average camera.

That's because Sony is defining the Ultra as a phone and not a tablet. The app "Pocket" though, defines it as a tablet and that's why we have the tablet UI. It's the same thing with "TV Show Favs" and "IMDb" too.

But it's not about Sony and how they think it should be marketed, it should be all about the user and how they use the product. Sony would have known that the device will be used more as a tablet than a phone for a lot of users, would it have been so difficult to ad a toggle in display settings to switch between phone/phablet/tablet modes?
Next I'll want a toggle to swap between pocket size and tablet size - changing the physical form factor...

I think sony took reasonable decision here. Because a tablet layout would be too horrendous for a portrait layout. Everything will be too narrow. It is clearly only for a landscape layout (which suits tablet z more appropriately) but yeah a tablet layout on landscape is still a possibility. But i think Android doesn't support such layout witch just by the rotation?

well guys, after thinking a while i decide to buy the Iblazer flash for our beast, and if olny is good a half of what they say, that can resolve the only negative aspect i see in our bigbestbeast

theu ship to me in this month so hope to have it in last genuary
any other have place an order?
As a photography fan, I would like to see what you get with this flash so I am looking forward to your images
Been following the iblazer. Will also be interested in how it performs.
Dont forget to give it a review once you have it mate!
as soon as i get it i'll sure review.
In the meantime i send a mail to their suport cause the official beta app is incopatible with our device (hope cause the new 4.3 update) und also cause i've the qx-10 lens, asking if the iblazr app will support in the future this lens.
if the official app will support the qx-10/qx100 lens, this small gadget will be the best idea for taking good photos, anyway will be a massive upgrade even with standard Ultra camera
I'll review it later, got mine today but I'm not with the ZU atm! Working fine with my phone (Xiaomi MI2). The iblazr App is still very buggy!

Received mine today. Unfortunately the iBlazer Beta App is not compatible with the Xperia Z Ultra at the moment...
I copied the app manually to my ZU now, it's starting but not turning the iblazr on!
If you manually turn the iblazr on you can do good pictures but the light will come far from the right side (if you keep the iblazr plugged in the audio port)
We need to be patient..
App is now available and working great!
I suggest anyone who got the free diffuser bundled to use it as it will make the effect of the light coming from the right side a bit less intensive!
Got comparison pictures attached
yes the app is working the devoloper send me now a mail.
now it start but i haven't my iblazer yet so i cannot test it
and good news for the qx-10/100 sony lens, the devoloper are working for the possibility to use iblazr with them.
so if all go in the right way we'll have the best phablet with the best camera fully working
Could someone tell me, if your USB Charing Cables are short, too?
in the videos one can see a very long flexible cable, all I got is short thingy.
How come there isn't even basic ROMs for Z2 yet? No PA, No VanirAOSP and all.
I am thinking to buy this device but the dev support got me worried.
From my experience on here dev support usually takes a while on sony devices. If custom roms is your thing you should have a look at htc's phones or wait and see what progress is made with the z2.

Official CM development has already begun, (on par with the Z) which is much sooner than happened with the Z1.
Z1 had issues with unlocking the bootloader which was only resolved a few months after launch. Z2 does not have this problem.
Once CM completes the bring up other roms will follow.

I must admit, I'd like to see a completely pure AOSP ROM myself. (With one possible exception: the camera. I wouldn't want to lose any hardware features in terms of capture resolution, capture rate, full / half press shutter button, focus speed, or image quality. Couldn't care less about 4K video, but I don't know if there's a third-party app that can provide all of the above.)
I find my Xperia Z2 incredibly bloated, and while I've disabled as much as I can, there's a lot that can't be disabled without root. (And I am uncertain whether I can safely root this and change much without losing my warranty or the ability to install subsequent OTA updates without risking bricking the phone.)

Well it's a more popular phone. Not sure about somewhere else, but in Adelaide (Australia), htc is everywhere, but you can barely bump into someone with a Sony phone.
I for one would love a purer android experience, but I don't want to lose the active noise cancelling and answering machine. The thing irritates me the most on Z2 is that 'what's new' button when you long press home. Google now is not in the middle as it should.
Sure ROMs will have support when the phone is widely available, the trees are quite stable now and ready for daily driver.

I think I'll just get Z1 because it's almost similar to Z2 and has more support.
In case anyone is intrested: I currently work on a pure AOSP device tree for 4.4.4. i also planned to have some fun with L-preview but I don't know if I am able to do this.
You'll hear from me.

That's the holy grail of android. AOSP with some pumped up feature rich camera. It doesn't exist, on any device!
I ran CM11 today just to try it out. I really like the ROM but the camera is just garbage compared to Sony's software. Plus you can't start the camera from the shutter button (a huge benefit for me personally). The smoothness and customization is great, but the camera never will be.

Screen is much better on Z2.
Plus, aosp been avail on z1 much longer and to get camera to work properly you have to install a camera fix app.
Z2 has only had fully working aosp for a few weeks. You will find new developers and ROMs appearing each month so don't worry.
And on my previous phones, I rarely run pure CM but on Z2 I'm totally happy with it. Fast, smooth and with an Android L theme it looks great too.

For just a point and shoot it may be on part with OEM. One of Sony's best features might be the 120fps 720p mode. Much better than iphone5s or OPPO find7. No such option with AOSP derived third party roms.

if you install the oneplusone camera app, it will start when the phone is unlocked with the camera button. and you get a little bit of customisation.
From the looks of things though android L will bring use closer to the gold of having support for advanced camera features, rather than oems having to build there own.

Yeah I switched to Carbon for a few days and found that the general photo quality in the stock camera was pretty close, but I still missed the Sony app enough that I loaded my RomAur backup.
Honestly I could have dealt with the camera, but I had a lot of issues with AndroidWear and my Gear Live not working correctly on it... Not sure how support is on other Z2 supporting AOSP-ish ROMs at the moment but it wasn't particularly reliable there.
I definitely did like the overall experience though minus the minor issues.

I'm not asking for a pumped-up, feature-rich camera, just one that can do what the hardware is capable of. Full resolution, full burst rate, and a working shutter button. I'd prefer not to have all Sony's extra bunk like ar modes etc, to be honest.
I wanted to buy DJI OSMO Mobile 6, but it seems that it lacks support even for S22 Ultra, so I suppose they will never make it work with S23 Ultra.

See, it depends on what you really need, I actually am using that currently for my s23 ultra, but only because I just needed something with stabilisation and something to hold my phone for still shots. It's sad the hardware doesn't work directly with the camera app, they have their own which is pretty lackluster, however all the features worked related to their product in their app.

Can you specify what 'all the features worked related to their product in their app' means? I thought that S23 Ultra is not supported at all?
Is it possible to shoot 4k 60fps stabilized video?
Also is it possible to shoot photo (not video) panorama handheld?
Can you please post some video on which is visible how stable the phone is?
Thanks.
You misunderstood me, the features that they advertise do work, but most of it is because it's all done with their tripod + app. That's also the problem however, since their app is pretty lackluster, yes it'll do everything they said it can, but you have no control or options, for example I can use only 1080p 60fps recording. What I'm trying to say is that it can do all the stuff they say but you're only limited to what they offer in their app (Device support, yes it'll support any phone theoretically, however the options are limited to the support of the device), which isn't a lot, and you lose out all the stuff from the stock camera app. However if you just need a tripod that stabilises then it does that regardless of any further interaction, works out of box since it all happens on the tripod itself, however you'll need the app anyway to update the firmware of the tripod. I'll show you some photos from in the app when I get home from work.

Exactly what I did, bought it from there, decided that it fulfills the basic necessities and kept it, like you said you can always return it. In terms of stabilisation itself it's actually not too bad in my opinion, however this is my first one ever so I can't say anything more besides that. And yeah I will.
