I have a huge and annoying messaging problem on stock. Here's my problem. I text somone and the conversation is formed. When they text me back their message pops up on top of mine and says I've received it at a completely different time! When I text back, the message appears directly below my other message I sent... and so on.. So the messages get all jumbled up! This is REALLYannoying.. HELP?
ANYONE????!!!!
Which ROM are you using and which messaging app?
I'm using stock ROM (2.1 Update 1 with sense).. with the default messaging app.

You know my problem? or not?
Ok. One thing to try. Go to 'manage applications ' then delete data from messages app. This shouldn't delete your messages but you may want to back them up first. Then restart your phone. That is all I can suggest, unless you have thousands of messages, in which case I' d suggest to delete quite a few. Other than that I don't know unless its a carrier problem.
Just thought of one more obvious answer. Go to date and time settings and see if 'network provided values' is checked

Tried it, I'm texting someone now and once I get the response back I should be able to tell if ticking this option changed anything

Aw man. It didn't work Too bad. Thanks for the help anyway. I'll continue my searches.
The time stamps for the incoming text messages seem to arrive at completely different times (FYI)
Anyways if you could offer any further help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I solved it.. I installed SMS Time Fix by Matthew Precious (from the android market) and it fixed my problem.. Thanks for all the help though
Hi all! Just installed Oodie MIUI rom and it's superb! My Xperia is a lot faster and smooth than ever! I'm just experiencing one problem: I can't receive SMS. Sending is alright, the problem is receive a message. And it started from nowhere today: send a message to my brother, he answered to me but the message never came. Help pls =/

Did You change any settings in the firewall apk?
Yes, but the problem persists.

I had same problem I took battery and sim out for a min or so and then reflashed the rom wipe cache battery stats etc then things were fine!

Didn't You set to block all of the incoming messages in Firewall?

and receiving SMS. I found out that
it was because of the multilingual package. I tried the SMS fix that
was posted a while back, but same
thing happened after a while. The
only solution I found was to flash
the ROM from the beginning and
then restore my apps with titanium.
Only after I saw that everything was OK (including SMS) I flashed the
multilingual file.

Some time ago an mesage appeared to me asking if I wanted to receive a sms... then when i was to click in allow, the time runs out and then i wasn't able to re eive any sms =/ I think it was a firewall thing, but I can't find the option to allow anymore... what do I habe to do?
In some custom roms it is natural to have firewall,
First you search your menu for an app named firewall,maybe you turn it on for your incoming messages.
If it doesn't have any problem,
Another app on your menu named superuser,maybe when the last message apeared that you denied you can fix it there and allow to receive SMS again.

Well, have done what vazelos said and worked the advice thing just appears if your miui rom is in english. So, u have to wait till the advice appears, than allow the receive of sms and after that install the multilanguage pack =D tks for everyone for the help!
The Dialer always FC now.
actually dialer FC with showing COntracts stopped working, but actually the contacts is workign fine. the real problem is with dialer only. looks like it has problem in reading the call log and also with T9 contacts.
urgently need a solution for this otherwise we canot continue using this rom.

I am having the exact same problem and would like a fix without reindralling rom. I have tried clearing dsta for all relating to dialer, phone and contacts, but no help. As soon as i hit phone, dialer crashes and after 10 seconds it says that contacts has stopped working.
Also when first installed the android keyboard crashed all the time and had to switch to smart keyboard.

The first time I juz try to ti- backup and flash the rom again. But juz now I face the same problem again, don't wanna flash the rom everything to fix it. Any solution to it?? Thx. I've tried to wipe all cache and even clear data of the application contacts, however is useless...
Hope there will be some fix for it as I really prefer 1.1 instead of 1.2 onwards...

Have you tried upgrading to v1.4? when i installed, triple wipe i did the main rom, then gapps, rebooted recovery, installed siyahkernel and it all works for me

It's known problem with RR 1.1 & T9 dialer - if you used the search tool you would know (I had the same exact problem)... Anyway, the problem occurs when you reject a call, once it's F-ed there's no going back (tried reinstalling the apk, TB-it - NOTHING). If you dont want to reflash you can use exDialer from the market, that's what I did then OR upgrade to 1.4, you wont regret - hope this helped (Excuse my bad english)

Thanks for answering! Perhaps i will reflash the rom and won't reject calls again haha!
I've tried 1.3 before but there are several things that i don't like, such as the toggles style of notification bar, the fm radio is removed, camera can't save pics in sd card, can't chg the font style, etc. Thaz why i prefer to stay at 1.1 ...

Glad I helped . Anyway you can use the other "afterbootxxxxxxx.zip" file without T9, that way you can be rude and rejecting calls without FC's afterwards but you'll lose T9 func.
Oh juz saw someone posted in gs2root.com, say when having the contacts fc, can solved by clearing data of "contacts storage", only drawback is lost all the call logs ... but I m not sure is it refering same issue ... wanna know does it work?? (I haven't tried it yet)
Ok, so, I was having the same problem. I tried opening the dialer app information (holding the app icon) and then i cleared the data, it's working perfectly, no drawbacks that I could notice

So I tried installing both the 4.1.2 apk from AOKP rom and the 4.1.1 from some defualt rom. I got the messaging part working with both .apk's. My problem however is that when I replace them every new incoming message gets put into a new thread in the message app.
How would I go about to fix this?
More editing: I wasn't 100% clear, but what I want was the android messaging app, not the samsung one. I also figured it could be that I have to replace the contact.apk as well? Like always, any input would be nice.
I did remove the stock app with titanium backup for those who might be interested in doing the same.
Also: I'm doing this because I want the emoji support in the default app without having to use a custom sms app.

Up. Same thing here. I'm running the stock Samsung ROM, and I've tried replacing SecMms.apk with almost all mms.apk's I've found on xda-dev. Always the same issue, although it does happen only for some contacts, not all. For some contacts, it's indeed reusing an old thread, as it's supposed to.

The alleged fix is to add international codes to all your numbers. I tried this using number fixer. It worked for about 5 hours then messages started creating new threads again. Very annoying, ended up going back to GoSMS
I tried this too....everyone have a fix for everything here, so thought that someone fixed this

try this..
everytime you create a message, use the contact app first to select the recipient from there you click the icon for messaging beside the mobile number. then, when the recipient reply it will thread to you original message.

I have looked at all the other threads and they didn't help me, my problem is that the stock messaging app crashes every time i start it, meaning, i cant do anything with messages. It started today when last night it was working. Im running stock rom, kernel, everything is unchanged, unrooted and using Nova launcher. The only thing i did today was Install BBS and disabled some useless Samsung apps like Joyn and such, but nothing mayor.
i tried clearing the data and force closing it, restarting, taking battery out, when i place the widget for messaging the app itself crashes, the widget stays and i see my threads, but when i open them, it crashes again...so honestly, i have no idea whats going on.

!!EDIT: The messaging app doesnt crash anymore (no idea why it stopped crashing) but! I cannot send messages, it tells me always "message failed" also with other apps like GoSMS and HandSent, I cannot send messages. I tried going to /system/app and trying to install again the stock apks, but nothing, It tells me that Application Installation failed Rooted my phone just now, and still doesnt help.

what version of android are you using ? if it is based on samsung 4.2.1 leaked rom, you need to wipe data from CWM to use messaging app :good:
What happens if you go to call logs and swipe from right to left to send a message and then press the back button (should take you to the messages window)?

I updated some information at the top. App works now, but I cant send messages tells me "message failed" and of course i have enough sms, cleaned the cache, restarted the program many times.

should've been a problem with the rom itself ! try flashing a new rom (backup your data) !

believe it or not, somehow it works again...just on its own. I found on another forum and doing a Delvick cache clean up with Titanium backup would work! if anyone has a problem like this, that can be suggested. Other than that..I honestly dont know what just happened.
