Thank you for looking at my post.
I'm getting my S4 unlocked tomorrow from a shop which I have paid £30 for and after the unlock I want to install the Stock S4 ROM for the UK for SIM Free version I guess, I was wondering, once the phone has been unlocked and I have changed the ROM will I lose my unlock? I'm getting the phone factory unlocked not by a ROM. The phone is currently locked on Orange. I live the UK if that helps so it's a AT&T or Verizon S4 or anything.
My S4 is the GT-I9505 version.

You may want to post this in the 9505 forum instead. In a double blind research study, it has been proven that one is more apt to receive answers relevant to their GT-I9505 if the question is posted in its forum versus the SCH-I545 forum.

Hi guys
I'm planning to buy a SII from AT&T's (i777) as I searched and is the SII version I like the most. I'm in Colombia, southamerica and I'll buy a factory unlocked cellphone but I want to know if there's a problem with flashing a ROM like Cyanogenmod, can the phone get locked to AT&T's SiM cards or something like that??
Thanks in advance

If it's unlocked it'll stay unlocked until locked again :good: regardless of roms you flash. In other words, you'll be all set. Buy the phone, flash cyanogenmod and call it a day! Welcome to the forums

That's why I want to be sure, I never bought any operator locked phone and less from other country operator, I don't know how does it work with this phone since is a variation from AT&T, it's not an international version sim locked. You know if this phone can come unlocked from factory indeed or if is unlocked by any code instead??, for me is very important to be 100% sure since I'm out of US, want the phone and customization options as I don't like touch wiz that much
Thanks for your replies
Man, is not hard to unlock this phone.
You can unlock it by code BUT no one uses codes.
We do use some app from android store.
Check Galaxsim. There are others.
Go for it!

So I did a little searching before posting so don't ream me please ??
1) Does the dev edition s4 also have a locked bootloader? That would be f'in whack.. If it us unlocked and my second q doesn't pan I may try and swoop one up. ..
2) I have a friend with a tmobile s4 that he cracked the digitizer and just reported it lost... If I took his board could I unlock it to big red? If so what would be the consequences?

The Dev Edition S4 normally does not have a locked bootloader. I say normally because some users took an Over The Air update which did lock the bootloader. So it depends on whether the bootloader is a stock MDK bootloader or if the user took a subsequent OTA update which in turn locked / changed the bootloader. Also, there is no factor image for the Dev Edition, so if it is locked it is going to stay locked for the foreseeable future. As for your second question, I'm not sure that will work. I think the firmware differences between TMO and Verizon plus the difference between GSM and CDMA will not be easy to overcome. But I don't know that for sure.
I'm not trying to be a know it all trust me lol but the dev s4 never got otas I don't believe. The users who locked then up did so by using Odin and retail firmware.
Just throwing that out there.

I don't take that as you being a know it all, you're probably right. I just know some Dev owners did something to lock their bootloaders I just assumed (wrongfully) that it was an OTA of some sorts. Sorry for the misinformation.

I know one user who received his DevEd about the same time as me. He received an OTA that locked his bootloader. I have never received an OTA, and I'm still running stock (more or less) DevEd.
It's funny how I bought the DevEd, because I wanted a guarantee that I could ROM the device. But I fell in love with the stock OS, and don't care if I ever have KitKat.

No kidding? I didn't know any of them got OTAs. At least you have the option to flash whatever you want if you did get bored with stock.

I recently unlocked an S3 for a friend, I did the whole downgrade to 4.1.1 method then the *#197338640# now my question is this, if she upgrades the phone when she's on the new network back to 4.1.2 will it ruin the phone being unlocked? Thanks, first time I've ever done this.

gt i9300 international SIII has no locked bootloader (only one I know is verizon one). so either you are in the wrong SIII forum or you have done something unnecessary...
Your right, sorry. Like I said I did this for a friend I don't own an S3 so I didn't know where to post. Thanks

No, SIM unlock is permanent and can not be reverted by flashing OTA.
Hi Guys,
I was looking to purchase this phone off of ebay for my mom. We are on the t-mobile network but since VZN Note 2s are supposed to be unlocked I was looking at them too. However, I'm looking at them and there are quite a few Verizon Note 2s around/under $200 on Ebay. Is that where the phones value is now? I thought they would be around $250 at least. The one thing all of these have in common are that they are the Verizon models. The tmobile models are still pretty high. Is there something wrong with this model? Are these like those fake chinese clones? Or is the value just at that and I should buy it ASAP? I don't want to throw money down for some random clone

Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob, Does that just mean that custom software can't be installed on it? Like I said my mom is going to be using it so it will probably stay on stock.
Correct, no custom roms or root...depending on what version the phone comes with. What did you mean in your op when you said 'unlocked'?

aren't they unlocked to use sim cards since they are world phones? I know i have to change up the APN to get tmobile data but I don't need to put in random codes or anything right? I'm getting my info from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044449

Step one in that guide says 'ensure your phone has root' That is game over if the note 2 has the latest update. You can't root it.

What about Method 1? Or is that not possible at all cause its a custom rom?
Method 1:
See Adrynalyne's post below (Post #2) for a flashable mod (via custom recovery) that will enable the Add APN menu by removing Verizon's block. (For deodexed roms only)

That requires a deoxed rom, so the note would have to be bootloader unlocked and had a deoxed rom flashed.

Yes they are sim unlocked all you have to do is pop the sim in and add the correct apn's although you'll only get 3g and H+ (no 4G lte)

No offense to that guy but he's wrong bc I and many other put their Verizon note 2 on other carriers with no issues (see forums like note 2 on other carriers there plenty of them)
Now as far as the whole bootloader deal goes for custom rom and root depending on the android version but just to use it stock on another carrier it's sim card unlocked out of the box no root or custom rom needed
I had my Verizon note 2 with a locked bootloader android 4.3 on straight talk (att sim) for months no problems

That's what I have heard. You also need to have had it active on Sprint for a year, and the phone has to be physically in the US when they unlock it.
