first off I would like to say sorry if this is in the wrong area but since I am a new member the boards are not allowing me to post a reply for technical support in the respective thread that it belongs.
this post is in regards to Dan Rosenberg's one click root for droid attix, droid RAZR, etc...
it can be found HERE
I tried rooting my phone but it failed at installing root. it installed the su.apk but when I run the program after my phone restarted it sends a message about not having any binaries and it cannot download any. on further examination to check if my phone had been rooted I found out it had not been rooted. so some technical stuff about my phone and PC and methods I had tried.
phone:
USB debugging is enabled.
Motorola Droid RAZR M
jellybean 4.1.2
phone USB connection set to MTP
PC:
Windows XP
Motorola droid USB driver package installed(variation tried clockwork USB driver package)
windows media player 11 installed
no firewalls or virus protection installed windows firewall disabled
there is not much else I can explain besides the fact everything went well and it installed SU but in the .bat it said failed after it said rooting.
I wonder if there is something I'm missing or a step I missed any support or recomendations are welcome and supported I am willing to work with you to get a solution.
thanks and much love to you at xda.
the error it seems I'm getting is that adb may not be working or it might be another issue? its failing to copy files and failing to find directorys on the phone

Mods, if this belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it.
I read many many threads about people's problems with adb on the vibrant and while there were no individual threads that matched exactly, little pieces from many helped me in my situation; in case someone else experiences what I had, this is what I did to fix it.
Environment:
Win7 Professional N x64
Vibrant (SGH-T959:2.1-update1/ECLAIR/UVJI) (this was the leaked ROM mid Sept)
Samsung x64 drivers from TGA_Gunnman's thread (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929)
USB Debugging enabled
Problem:
I was able to get all the components of the phone recognized in device mgr & I was able to mount both the internal SD and my 8gb external SD cards, read & write to them with ease; I was even able to flash the leaked ROM via ODIN. I was NOT able to get adb to connect to my device.
C:\vibrant\adb devices
List of devices attached
T9596f3efa91 offline
I tried in recovery mode, no dice.
I had tried Droid Explorer, it was unable to find my device as well.
I had read somewhere that it was a driver problem, although dev mgr wasn't complaining and everything else appeared to be working just fine. One person noted they were able to use the Samsung Moment drivers from JuneFabric's website. I tried to install those drivers and was met with an error during the installation that said windows was unable to locate the file. Uninstalling, rebooting, reinstall (as many times as I had...) had no effect.
I grabbed USBDeview (thanks to masr1979's post in forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735534&highlight=masr1979) and uninstalled every android related driver. Rebooted and when prompted for the drivers, tried the moment drivers only to face the same "unable to locate file" error. I got fed up and tried going back to the drivers from TGA_Gunnman's thread which brought
me back to the start. Atleast I was able to mount my sd cards.
Solution:
Not satisifed with this, I went to Samsung's website and found drivers for XP/Vista... i can't for the life of me re-navigate to that download page, but I have uploaded the drivers here.
After running USBDeview to nuke everythign samsung/android related (again) and rebooting, I plugged my phone back in - pointed it to the extracted folder for the attached drivers, ignored the "unsigned drivers!" error for all three devices and re-tested DroidExplorer. SUCCESS! Droid Explorer found my phone and adb (console) also shows my device attached! Everything is golden.
Summary
Random-assed drivers found on Samsung's site for XP/Vista (attached) matched what my Vibrant wanted on Win7x64 in order to get data and debugging connectivity.
Thanks
(edited for the attachment which didn't stick? & stupid 5min wait to post )
So I have pretty much tried everything and cant seem to find a solution anywhere I look. Sideload wonder machine (SWM) isnt installing my apk's because its not establishing a connection with my phone. I have instralled samsung kies and also the usb drivers from the samsung support page for this version of the phone but still no luck. when I connet the phone in debgging mode my computer is not giving me any errors in device manager which would lead me to beleive I have the drivers installed right.
Are you guys having a problem or is there something that I'm not doing correctly? I would really appreciate some help here. Thanks!
You don't even need that anymore. You can enable sideloading by going into Settings>Applications> and checking the Unknown sources box. Then you can just copy apks onto your phone and install them.
that was a great decision by att to unlock that feature.
just email yourself the APK file and install it from the phone; its no longer restricted to install apks
Thank you Amazon.

So apparently I can't reply to posts in development section, but I searched for a thread specifically on this and couldn't find it, so I'm sorry if there actually is a thread on this already.
I've been attempting to root my Droid Razr (XT912), which currently has stock ICS. None of the methods appear to be working, and it seems as if it's because I do not have an ADB connection (such as this one http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/4316/adbnc.jpg from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871). Yes, I have USB debugging and "allow mock locations" both enabled. Yes, I have the most up-to-date Motorola drivers (I checked 3 times). Yes, I can install software from unknown locations, and I extracted the files from the .zip folder. This connection does not show up for me no matter what I have done so far, and any of the EasyRoot scripts always get stuck on "Rooting....daemon enabled" or something like that. I have no idea what to do now; any ideas?
Hmm if you have another computer, try installing just the usb drivers and then fire up the root package.
There are tons of issues with drivers. If you have adb installed, type in "adb devices" and if it doesn't show a serial number or a device id, its a driver issue. If it does show up, make sure you are using a usb 2.0 port as I have had issues using a usb 3.0 port for flashing via rsd/fastboot so that could be causing issues.
Other than that, I really don't have any other advice.
Edit
This is from the nexus 7 dev forums. Its a universal adb/usb driver that could do the trick. Give it a whirl and see if it works.

In reading carrett's root, unlock and install guide as well as thecubed's Project FreeGee thread, it's clear that adb needs to be installed on my phone. Unless it's hidden somewhere, I believe that I need to install it as well as install adb drivers on my laptop. As far as the phone goes, Google play has wifi apps, but I can't find a tethered app to install. In addition, after a couple hours of searching, I don't find adb software or drivers to install on my laptop.
I'd prefer to not brick my phone on 1st attempt, so I pose the following questions:
1) Am I completely confusing things or am I correct in thinking that I need to explicity install adb both on my phone and laptop
2) assuming that some sort of adb install must happen, where do I find the installation files?
I think that I've finally found the answers to my questions: install the ADT bundle which includes adb. I'm downloading and installing it as I write this.
If a mod wants to delete this thread, please do.

dude link it?
Uh, ADB support is built into Android.
You need to have USB Debugging turned on for some stuff to work though. In Settings>Developer Options>(check USB debugging box).
Then ADB SHOULD be installed with the LG drivers (if not I think the FreeGee download has it built in).
And if it is not, you can always install the Android SDK (HERE).
I know it is in there.
(Sorry, my memory is fuzzy, I've had ADB on my laptop for a few years now... not sure where I got it)

Trying to attempt to root my phone. my linux machine is toast so I'm working with a roomates win7 laptop. ADB is running and we were able to root his RAZR without issue. Right now though it seems like I'm stuck on my phone because we can't seem to get the drivers to install properly. Tried using the download from Firebalas post to no avail. It looks like the driver labeled Android Phone fails to install. I feel like I'm missing something super simple. If anyone has an idea or an updated install package it would be much appreciated.

your 4.0 driver did the trick. ADB is working!
