Phone will not show a charge light & will not turn on - HTC Droid DNA

Hey guys,
So I was outside working in the yard and had music playing on my phone, I then walked into the garage and back and my phone was off when I got back. It wasnt in the sun when I left it out. Anyways It was connected to my laptop charging all night and had close to a full charge when it shut off. I plugged it into the wall for hours, plugged it into a linux laptop for a while, plugged it into a windows tower for a while, and no luck. Ive held down the power for up to a minute, Ive tried power and volume down and no luck.
Phone has the newest version of CM 4.3 10.2 8/7 with crpalmers 4.3 kernal installed.
Any suggesetions? Id ask in the forum thread for CM 10.2 but I dont have enough posts.

Try a different cable and attempt to charge overnight with a wall charger.

htc response
After contacting HTC they told me to do a battery recalibration which was charge for ten minutes and hold vol down vol up and power for 2 minutes but no dice.
Ive only had this phone for a month and they suggested I contact Verizon and try to get a replacement. Since this phone is competely whacked and I cannot RUU im curious If I should send it to verizon or If it will get declined.

That is what I was thinking. I tried to put it into fastboot by holding down volume and power, waited and then pressed power again and then plugged it into my computer and ran "fastboot devices" and "fastboot -- s" and both came back with waiting for device.
I watched the JTAG video but I honestly dont see a repair guy going through that much trouble to find out why it was bricked.
Fingers crossed I dont end up paying 500

This sucks
Just had this happen to me on Carbon 4.3 latest running stock kernel. Had mine on the charger overnight. My wife says that it was still working when she got up at 0730, but when I got up at 1000 it wouldn't turn on. Tried everything I could think of: Different cables, different power sources, nothing will get it to show a charging light or turn on. Ugh.

round 3
well I sent my first phone back into verizon and they sent me another one. All was well and I didnt get hit with a $500 fine, but within a week the same thing happened to the second phone as did the first. [ running PA with stock kernal, played a few songs and then dead with no charge light for days ] I received my 3rd phone yesterday and Im terrified to even root it now haha.
Is this a common problem with this phone? or maybe im having trouble with aosp roms. I really want to install PA again.

Same thing happened to me...

I had the same thing happen to my phone. I was playing music in the garage and when I came back, deader than a door nail. I finally ended up sending mine in to HTC. They sent back a working phone. What irritated me most besides having to pay shipping to get the phone to them when it was an under warranty repair, was the fact that they did not tell me what they fixed. And since the wifi MAC address was changed, I assume they swapped out the guts or something. Apparently there are issues with this phone that they don't want to share? I got the phone rooted again and am currently running crdroid with crkernal and the battery life is beyond horrible. I can charge it completely, leave it set at home and not use it at all and when I get home and check it, it's completely dead. Nothing. Very frustrating because I enjoy the phone when it's functioning correctly.

interesting nonetheless since mine died running the latest cm10.2 just before 4.3 came out hmm wonder if something with cyanogenmod is messing with the devices but if that was the case then everyone would be having this very same issue i dont know waiting on a repair from htc myself as i have heard nothing from them yet accept tracking shows in repair

Same thing just happened to mine running CM 10.1. Getting a new one from verizon tomorrow and I guess ill be sending them my dead rooted DNA.

Mine did something similar a couple of months ago. I was running carbon, listening to music. The music stopped and the phone was dead. I was able to boot into recovery. Initiated a reboot and got a popup about losing root and did I want to fix it. Selected yes and that was the last time it powered on.

Mine just did the same thing today. I was outside working in the yard cleaning up leaves and listening to music via headphones. All of a sudden the phone was dead. Not even 30 min before that it was at 90%+ battery. Now it won't turn on and the charging light won't even come on when it's plugged in. I've been running rooted S-off Viper ROM for a while without any previous issues. Is there something that I could try to fix it? I'm so confused about what happened. I'm pretty sure I'm out of the warranty too.

Had the same thing happen to mine. Sent it back and got a new one.

Update: Popped the back cover off after trying every button push/plugged in wall/plugged in computer/not plugged in combination possible and took the 2 tiny screws out of the battery connector and unhooked it, left the phone to sit for about 10 min, put it all back together and WAALA! It turned back on like nothing had happened. The battery was down to 55% though and it was 90+ when it turned off. Either it drained 40% and wasn't taking a charge while it was off since I had it plugged in a considerable amount of time that it was off without a light OR the more likely scenario is that I think the battery completely died somehow and it was actually charging without the light coming on and it had only gotten to 55%. Either way: if your experiencing this problem go for the battery. Watch a YouTube video to see how to get the thing apart, it's not that hard. Just make sure your gentle taking it apart the first time and don't rip the rubber gasket, it's sealed with a tiny amount of silicon so gently peel it off and place it back into its groove before reassembly.

Need Suggestions for Bricked Prime

Hi Gang,
Posted a few days ago about this issue I am having. During the last firmware update my Prime stopped working. It showed the android avatar doing the update and then it just went black (screen). I waited about 2 hrs and left it alone incase it was just taking a long time to reboot, but it has never turned back on.
If i hold the power button for 8-10 seconds it will vibrate like it normally does when you turn it on but thats about all. I have tried every combination of volume key and power button, reset pin ect. I have downloaded the update alone and put it to my micro sd card in hopes that it may catch it, but no luck. The power LED will only light up when plugged in and not on its own power. I have left it off charge for almost 2 days and it still seems to have power and not draining on its own.
There is 0 screen or volume..just black dead screen and vibration from holding power button 8-10 seconds.
When i plug it onto my pc it says ATX device and then fails to recognize it.
Anyone have any other ideas..at this point I am willing to open it up and reset the chip if possible or any other circuitry in hopes of rebirth.
I loved the prime..and so regret updating it.
I appreciate any suggestions and thanks.
Did you make sure the update zip was on the root of the SD Card? Did you properly put it in the mode to point it to that update zip then flash it?
Did you let battery drain completely then charge it up again? Usually those things will fix issue you described.

What would be the best way to type the address line on the micro sd card so it shows the correct path? I show no specific folder listed on my micro sd as /removeable (ect ect). What would be the proper folder name to make so it shows the path?
And i have 0 screen showing on my prime, so how do I put it the correct mode?
I have been letting it drain for 2 days now on its own, but it will take some time because there is no actual process running on it, it just appears to turn off.
I appreciate your help..in so many ways
This exact thing happened to me yesterday. And I just got my Prime...yesterday. I got to use it for about an hour before it asked to update. Frustrating. I have been digging around on the net but nothing is helping yet.
It was about 85% power or so when it started updating, so by the time the battery drained to zero I could have shipped it off to ASUS for repair and maybe it would even be on it's way back....
One interesting little thing, when i plug it into my computer windows detects it as an APX device even though the tablet is "off" (the power light isn't/screen is not on at least.) I installed the APX drivers and it's recognized as a Transformer Prime but I can't issue any ADB commands or anything.
I've tried like every button combination i can think of, the little reset thingiem and nothing makes it wake up. All I can make it do is that vibrating thing. Not a very fun start with this device, although while it was running it seemed to run really, really smooth.

Well at least it vibrates, not bad for a paperweight! I suppose I'll just have to send it off for repair or something on Monday, I don't think it will be waking up anytime soon :-[

I'm confused, if you only just got it, then the seller has to replace it, not the manufacturer and I don't care where in the world you are. That should be standard. practically DOA, no real issue unless the seller is a shyster.

I suppose, I just don't when the place will have more in stock. I got it online from Gamestop and it's the first time I ever shopped with them, but I'd guess I could just get refunded and keep looking around.

I have exactly the same problem as you. Did exactly samething you did. Still no solution. Let me know if you find a solution for it. I'll do the same for you. I have send a message to Gary from Asus. Maybe, you shall send one as well that I am not the only one with this problem.
I will keep looking for solutions, trying to figure a way to have it recognized as a storage device on my pc, right now it just lists as a Android phone and I am not able to expore within it.
What is gary's pm ? I will send him some info also.
Cheers
So you never see the ASUS logo ?
Try holding the power and Vol Down buttons for a good 30 seconds, see if you can get the recovery mode up.
If the PC see's it as an APX device its still on, and i'm guessing its in a suspended mode, perhaps used by the factory etc ... ?
Nope, never see Asus logo..screen is off..no backlight and no volume. Have tried every power button / volume configuration concieveable to no avail. But i did manage to get it to show up in device manager under phone, i would like to know how to get it to be listed as storage device.
It has been off charge for 3 days now and still vibrates on power button, because it would seem there is no process running, the battery is just draining from shelf time which could take a very long time to completely drain.
I saw a thread that mentions a reset button on the left of the device, under the microSD port ... i thought it was a microphone, but apparently thats on the top

At this point I'm doubting there's an answer other than return or warranty. Mines going back tomorrow :-\

-Little android guy and gears came up. progress bar after that then turned off never to start up again. World's most expensive push button vibrator.
What a joke! A very expensive joke.
Maybe my battery will drain in a month or so so i can try the update again and go through the misery one more time.
And yes i have tried all the suggested remedies with no luck of course.
WoW... I guess I maybe got lucky for once???
I got my Prime in the mail yesterday. I ordered after seeing several reviews and videos on its performance and even finding a display in a local store. Then after ordering I start finding all these threads on lockups; WiFi and GPS issues and frankly I get worried I just made a terrrible purchase decision.
Yet; my Prime seems to be working fine. I have a 'minor' issue with scrolling and it not being as smooth as reviews and/or displays I checked out; but the WiFi and GPS are working and even after the system update to ICS - no issues.
I did read on another forum however about the hard reset fixing this type of issue. With power off hold Vol-Down and Pwr keys until some text appears on the top of the screen. Takes about 30seconds. Then let go of everything and let it boot on its own.
Give it a try! What's it gonna hurt?

Been there. Done that. I have tried every suggested remedy noted on various forums. The only one left was let the battery drain to Zero which might take a very long time since under normal use the battery will last 6 to 8 hours. There is no way to drain the battery down when it won't turn on. (other than to sit there and press down the power on/off key until it vibrates. Gee I wonder how many vibrations I would have to go through to kill the battery)
Mine is trying to install the same update. Just to throw a question out there, the people that have the bricked primes what are the first 2 digits of the serial number? If anyone has applied the update and it worked what is the first 2 of your serial number. My first prime with a B1 serial number bricked on the first update to ICS. The one that I have now has a C1 serial and has worked awesome before and after the update.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 Water Damage - Not charging

Hi. I’m having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 (actually the I9100M, with Bell Mobility in Canada). I’ll try to be as detailed as I can.
I unfortunately had the phone in my pocket, and went into salt water (the ocean) for about 5 minutes. I realized it was there, and took the back case and the battery out. But I did not do anything else. About a month later, after sending it back to Bell and hearing I couldn’t get warranty, I decided to take a look myself.
I took the phone apart, and used 99% alcohol and a cotton swab and wiped everything down. After letting it dry for a day, I turned it on and it worked, nearly perfectly. The screen’s color is fine, the speaker works, the microphone works, the internet works, SIM card, making calls, Wi-Fi, etc… So I was quite happy.
However, I quickly found out that there is a problem somewhere with the USB connection. (Or, so I thought) When I plug in the USB to power the phone, nothing happens. It is not recognized by the computer, nor does it show that it is charging. So after going to a cell phone repair shop and speaking with someone, they said the cheapest thing would be to replace the entire USB Flex cable (incl. microphone, etc). So I bought one for $25 brand new (which I later realized I could’ve gotten cheaper, but I digress), and then went home, opened it up, took out the old one, and put in the new one. And sure enough, it did NOT fix the problem.
However, the “weird” thing, is that if I turn the phone off, and then plug in the USB connection, it then powers up and shows it is charging. (So obviously the “connection” works, and I mean, it is a brand new USB flex board, or whatever it’s called) But as I sat there, I noticed it is NOT charging… (Even though the battery indicator shows that it is charging, and the About Phone setting states this as well) And as well, the computer still does not even recognize that it’s plugged in.
So, I’m really at a loss for words here. I replaced the part, and obviously there is another issue. So the main points are:
Battery (which is brand new) does not charge when I plug in the USB connection to either a computer or the wall plug-in.
If the phone is on and I plug in the USB, it does NOT recognize it.
If the phone is off and I plug in the USB, it turns the phone on, and states it is charging, but does NOT charge. And the phone is NOT recognized by the PC if I have it plugged in.
If anyone has any ideas on what I can do, please let me know. There is still a lot of corrosion inside, but I’m not sure how much more I can get at. I assume that the problem must lie with the mainboard, where the USB flex cable connects to, but before I do anything else, I wanted to see if anyone had anything I could try. I hope I explained it well above. Please note, the phone works PERFECTLY aside from this (and some minor blurriness on the camera, probably the lens is dirty).
Is there a test I can run to see what the issue is? Clearly the connection does work, otherwise the phone wouldn’t recognize the USB and turn on by itself when I plug the USB in. But I’m just looking to know 1) why the battery does not charge when the USB is plugged in, and 2) why the PC does not recognize the connection.
Thanks so much in advance,
Much appreciated.
I had the same issue with i9000
Hi Alex,
I have the same problem with my SGS.
The only difference is that I do not know how/why it happened. I was hiking in the snow and kept the phone in my packet. At home I put it on the AC charger and like 20 min. later it started to vibrate (like in case of software problems). Since that time the USB connection shows the same symptoms as yours.
Official service suggested the replacement of the motherboard. I do not need to tell you that it would cost 50% of the price of a new phone...
So I bought an external charger for something like 10 EUR and everything is fine.
-I use the external charger to charge the additional battery I bought and replace it when the other one is running low.
-I use the external SD + BT or WiFi to transfer files
-Since the phone was already rooted I use mobile Odin for updates
Not a perfect solution but at least I got a workaround for everything for a minimal cost.

That is a solution but not the optimum one.
Assuming the warranty does not cover for water damages, its better having the charging port replaced. Chances are this might fix it.
i think take it service an get it repaird, cause as the main board has corrussion..good luck
Went fishing with some friends last month and a mate dropped his in salt water as well. I popped it into a cup of fresh water to rinse out the salt and pulled it apart completely.
After about an hour put it back together and worked fine, except for the charging port and battery. A fresh battery and it now runs fine again.

I'm interested in finding out more about this too - I think I may have damage from humidity?
Have been in fiji for a week.
While I was there I had the similar symptoms:
Thinking it's in car mode occasionally, or thinking its charging when not plugged in, and discharging when plugged in. Very weird.
Now that i'm back home, I've tried different usb and power cables, and they all give the same result of not turning on but occasionally giving me this screen:
http://i.imgur.com/l5BjA.jpg
A different battery (I had an 2000mah sized one and a stock one) is working but not charging at all so I turned it off quickly after that.
This makes me think it may be humidity damage from the trip, but it hasn't been in water or treated badly.
samsung galaxy s2 water damage help please!
Hi please help if you can any suggestions are appreciated!
My brand new (as in three days old!) samsung galaxy s2 got some vodka and coke spilt on it, I took it all apart dried the excess off then left it in rice for a week. When I put it back together it wouldn't turn on so I decided to try charge it as it had already been low battery when it got damaged. It's been charging for around five hours with absolutely nothing happening then all of a sudden this message has appeared on the top left side of the screen: LOW BATTERY!! CAN'T DOWNLOAD!!
I have no idea what this means as it hasn't been on for a week and I am crap with phones.
Does anyone know what to do or why it's done this please? Really don't want to claim as I have already 4 times!
Please help! thank you
Crap I dunked my phone on a soda/vodka drink. Phone kept working. I was rather surprised. Didn't think much of it.
The next day I checked to make sure that the phone will charge, it does. I connect it to the PC, and it fails to get recognized. Wow Just realized that any data saved on the internal USB is probably out of reach. I can move it or copy it to external SD and get my stuff.
This makes a good case why NOT buy phones without External SD Cards.
Wow, I'm a little sad. Just a little.
anything i can do besides specialized service
I spilled just a drop of Pepsi on my GT-N7000 and after drying it with a towel(i didn't think there was much dmg) i tryed to put it to charge as it told me the battery is at 10%,so i leave him charge for like 2-3 hours, and when i removed the charger he got stuck in a charging loop, showing me the sign of charging on the battery and after 2-3 seconds, disappearing and so on,also if i try to shut down the phone,it shuts down but right after that the battery charging icon pops on and off making the phone shut down for good and again again in a loop, making me remove the battery for total shut down, after that,i opened him up and saw that there are some drops of juice near the micro usb hole,so i took some ear cleaners and cleaned all that mess up,dried the zone with a hair dryer carefully not to melt something, assembled him back and still no sign of recovery, also i didn't use any alcohol in the cleaning process, just the dry ear cleaners.... :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying: besides all that the phone works fine...

Trying to charge a device which probably got some liquid into it, very bad idea.
Guidelines for next time:
1 . Switch of immediately and remove battery.
2. Keep in rice or someplace safe to dry.

For the OP......are you aware that there are THREE different versions of that board and that they're NOT interchangeable.....

This is in very small printing on the board......
You may simply have purchased the wrong version......

Hi Alex,
I have exactly the same problem and I wonder if you solve it? I'm also thinking to buy new USB Flex cable, but not sure if would fix the problem.

Don't use „ETHANOL", use that so-called „ISOPROPANÔL/ISOPROPÝL“ - Alcohol. 90% is enough but higher is better.

Do never drink Iso-Alcohol and it's recommended to wear protective Gloves (for Kitchen or so - lets absoulûtely no liquid through!) that protect you. If a drop of this liquid touches your clothes then put it off and wash it!

[Solved] Evo is stuck off... will not boot or charge.

I install a wifi kill app.
It was apparently shutting down wifi? What wifi I have no idea. It was stuck and non responsive for around 4/5 minutes so I thought a battery pull and a restart would get me out of the app.
And now the phone will not respond to me pressing the power button?! Nor will it charge. It's not responsive to being plugged in.
Help...
First time anything like this has happened to me. I am stuck without a phone and worried. Any help is appreciated?! I best not have screwed up the device.
Its a GSM evo, had a high battery charge. Running a custom rom with s off.
Even plugging it in gives no response. :crying:
It has been charged all night. seemed to indicate it was full. This morning it was down to 80% and I left it on charge some more, now this.
I opened up my comand prompt then typed "fastboot reboot-bootloader" and I just get < waiting for device >
I've been through this thread and non of this helps. (link below)

-------------------------------------------
My solution.
Button presses were having no effect I left my phone connected to the mains and re tried the buttons and adb commands with no luck.
Although my battery was reading at around or above 80% before the problems I was sure it wasn't the battery.
I couldn't see how it was appearing to be bricked and unresponsive. I installed an app, it hung and I pulled the battery. So I presumed something had gone wrong with the app.....
I took a chance that the battery had drained fully somehow and the ROM was somehow supplying some dodgy readings.
The battery and wire trick was what I tried. A jump start was needed.
I should have licked the battery first to feel for any charge. But it was the last thing I was thinking about. (I don't have a voltage tester any more around the house)
I set off for a 9 volt battery. Using my trusty tongue again the one in my alarm was out of juice. Thankfully I got a new one though which was laying around.
So if it wasn't going to work I knew this battery wasn't going to be part of a problem.
Striping metal food ties I connected positive to the one positive contact and used another metal strip to tap each of the three negatives, obviously connected to the negative of the battery.
I kept the touches quick barely a second and kept running through all three. Went well, there was no heat from the battery. I did that for about a minute.
Be careful, don't damage your battery! Do not blame anyone else if you do... Make sure not to have your connections touch one another or its game over too.
I used my trusty method of licking the phone battery and bam, it was charged and I knew about it!
Placed it into the phone. Took a bit of time to say my prayers.... Connected the USB and the computer acknowledged that it was working a red light flashed,
My prayers were answered! I powered on the phone and its back to normal.
Strangely telling me the battery is at around 75% plus ...

Try pulling the battery for a few. Then press and hold the camera button and click power on. No idea where i remember this from but it may work.

Tried this too. Even with volume combinations as suggested in other threads I have looked up. My battery appeared to be charged to at least 80%. I'm hoping its something that hasn't bricked my phone and there is a simple fix. Maybe the battery level has been wrong?
I've left it on charge for now and I will give the buttons another go. At the minute it doesn't appear to be charging.
Can the battery pull cause any damage?
*Anyone else having trouble check this thread ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408374 I've tried all these tips here and non are working for me so far. They keep mentioning cwm 5 may cause problems ? I think I was running it because when I s-offed it came with it. Not sure which version it was?
The battery pull wont do any damage but this doesnt sound too good. If you cant boot to recovery or the bootloader your pretty much screwed.
Does the led light up when you charge it? If so it may not be completely bricked. But we need to see if you can power it up at all.

No, no light so I was worried. Good news is it's not bricked. I have another problem though.... I will post back in a minute, I will post the fix that worked for me to the top of the thread.
My battery seems to indicate it has charge that's what it appears to be reading at once I booted the phone up I took that picture. But it indicates its been on a while? ? ?
And now ky battery is draining like crazy. Is it just a bad battery? Or one that needs calibration?
Seems strange as only people with a low battery come across this problem. What could have caused it. I'd rather not have it happen again.
Any clues?
Oh wow! Awesome man. My next round of questions were going to be if you had access to a different battery or a friends phone to test it before we claimed it as a brick. Huge props for going above and beyond. Now stay away from the app that caused it but it also couldve been the battery failing and its coincedence.
Was gonna order a wall charger and a spare battery. But would have had to wait until Tuesday with shipping.
Battery level seems a bit all over the place. Why is there a second gap ?

WOW where did you come up with using a battery to charge your phone?
My bet the battery needs to be trained again. Let it die then charge it back to full. The fact the battery failed like that might mean its still going bad so if it were me.. id get a new battery when you could. Trickle charging all the time probably isnt the best either but you do what you have to for a charge.
I just wanted to thank the OP (which I did using the button) for actually posting his solution so future searchers will not just come across the question.
Same thing is happening mine now. I can get into fastboot but from searching everywhere it seems the phone will not charge when its in fastboot. I may aswell go find a square battery somewhere around my house and give this a shot.
I found by searching that there is a fastboot charging script but that seems to be in the One X forum , I tried it anyways and my phone just keeps rebooting into fastboot. Im sickened because a girl I was with on friday night said to me on facebook that she sent me some good pictures but I cant get phone on to look at them ha ha . ill try whats in the first post here now and see how I go. Thanks.
Man my phone is old. Good to know this thread helped a few people.

Battery drain, even when phone is turned off !!

I'm having a weird issue that's been dragging on for nearly 9 months now. Not only is my phone draining the battery while in flight mode, it's even doing it when I've turned off the phone completely. Even when it's supposedly completely shut off, the battery drains. I've been using my S2 as a game and internet device at home. I don't use it everyday. Turning it off at 80% battery, then 2 days later turning it on to discover it's at under 10%, beeping and flashing about being low on battery life is driving me absolutely nuts. I'm on my 4th battery now (one of them an extended) and it makes no difference whatsoever. It drains the battery at the same rate whether flight mode is on or off, or if there is a sim inserted or not. I've also done several hard resets of the phone thus wiping out all my apps and information.
Now the weird thing is my boss has an old S2 at work. It has 4.0.3 on it whereas mine is on the official 4.0.4 update. I turned on my boss' S2 after it having sat in a drawer for 9 months (since the S3 came out) only last week and it still had 70% battery life on it. Why can't my phone even last a few days turned off!?
I should not have to root the phone and muck around with countless roms and kernels to get this phone working properly, but am prepared for any advice at this point. If it's not sorted within the week, my cell phone provider will cancel my contract.
I'm running the official stock rom (Virgin Australia) on my phone as seen here.

As you can see in this pic, the huge jumps in battery % are when the phone has been turned off.
And the details of my boss' old S2 (Optus Australia).
Now compare this with a cheap $29 Android phone I got recently and it's on day 7 of being constantly on. It doesn't have a sim in it, and has just been sitting on, but at this rate I think I might be able to push 2 whole weeks of this being on.
Something clearly is wrong and broken with my S2 and I wonder if it's at the hardware level
Yep. Could be an issue with the USB/charging circuitry if you've tried a bunch of batteries with the same results. Reset the flash counter, back to stock (if you've flashed non-stock firmware/rooted it at any stage), send it in for warranty service & see what happens (Back your stuff up before you send it; chances are they'll wipe it & put the latest stock firmware they have on it).
Edit - You could also try carefully cleaning the battery contacts on the phone with isopropyl alcohol on a fresh cotton bud/similar (be really careful tho).

Same problem here with my Note 2. I also have an issue where the phone won't power on after changing batteries without first plugging it in for a second. I bought the phone refurb with only 90 day warranty..Any resolution?
Same prob here but when I have 50% and I turn off and turn it again it goes to 15%. It may be battery prob. I will buy another battery

I have posted to the Note section and nobody responded. If you don't care about my note, then ignore that statement.
I'm still interested if there was any resolution to the problem with the S2.
a friend of mine had a similar problem, turned out her sd card was cracked, but hers refused to charge completely and if it did it became really hot, maybe you should check your sdcards...

I've since stopped using my S2. Gave up on the ridiculous battery usage, even when it was turned off.
I've tried 3 different batteries. Even the Official Samsung S2 Extended battery, along with my original S2 battery and another but slightly older genuine S2 battery. Same problem with all batteries. The phone drains the battery even when the phone is turned off.
I've done a factory reset, I've tried different sd cards, makes no difference.
I still use the phone to play a few games in bed each night, and then turn it off. I might turn it off with 50% battery left and not use it again for a few days. Turn it back on and it's beeping saying low battery at 4%.
I've since bought an S4 Mini and it's amazing. With wifi and data turned off, it goes 5 days and I'm still at 40% battery. The only thing I do miss fro the S2 is the screen. It's still nicer to look at than the S4 Mini. But I don't miss the stupid and still unresolved battery drain bug.
The S2 was supposed to be 4.2.2 and maybe even 4.3, but it never did. That's another crap thing Samsung do, is they just can't be stuffed getting updates out on their handsets.

I mentioned earlier that I had the exact same problem with my Note 2. Battery drained 7-8% an hour when completely off. I had reverted to backup I took early on with no success. Factory reset with no success. I thought for sure it was a hardware issue, but i recently resolved it without messing with hardware.
I followed another post on xda-developers on how to get my Note 2 back to factory stock.. completely wiped with stock recovery, no root, reset custom flash count, and the original factory ROM before any OTA updates. Unbelievable, but that solved my battery problems. In addition, I was having an issue where I couldn't power on my phone after swapping battery without first plugging into USB to jump start it. That's also been resolved. These are things I was absolutely sure were related to a hardware short or something and are now fixed.
Can someone try this advise above and see if it resolves the issue.

if it makes often the same problem, then is the battery or you have to put on stock ROM with format/system before you install the stock ROM.

It's not the battery. I have the stock rom, never done anything to this phone accept root it, and it was doing the battery run down from day 1. I think I've updated twice on this phone, and they have been the official OTA updates from Samsung. First update was to 4.0.3 I think, then to 4.1.2. The battery drain issue has remained both before and after these updates. Some months back I rooted this phone, didn't make things any better or worse. It still eats the battery when turned off
Got the exact same problem. Nice to know I am not alone. Did a factory reset, no change. Bought a new extended battery but no joy. The phone can show as fully charged at 10 pm and by 9 am the next morning it is down to 40% when it has been switched off all night. In fact I get roughly the same figures if I have left the phone on with wifi, mobile data and GPs all turned on.
The phone is 2 years old. My 2 year contract ends in in a couple of months and I'll get a different phone. So I think I'll struggle on for now. I live in deepest Spain and the thought of tackling the Orange shop about it leaves me cold....

I'm curious if the phone is actually shutting down or not. I had an S1 that would act like it shut down but was really hung in shutdown mode so the screen was dark but I could feel it was staying warm. I never figured it out as I tried different roms and had the same results so I just started pulling the battery and putting it right back in and it would stop draining the batt and the phone didn't get warm. Does the phone turn back on normally or do you have to hold the power button long enough to reset it?

Phone Shutting Off Suddenly When Battery <50%

For many months now I had been using the same version of Carbon ROM and whichever kernel was available at that time I installed it. Sometime after flashing that last update I learned that when I started to use my phone heavily enough to drop the battery to less than 50%, it would eventually and randomly shut off well before the battery was completely drained. As I also had also problems with the phone passing the boot screen most of the time so I figured they were just ROM or kernel issues that I would deal with later. I ended up just dealing with these two issues this whole time. Fast forward to now, I finally got around to updating my phone and wiped then flashed both the newest C-ROM and corresponding kernel. Sadly to say, the battery is still causing issue.
So, anywhere from the 40% range down to maybe 15% at the lowest I've seen, my phone randomly shuts off. Attempting to turn the phone right back on fails because it either shuts off again during boot, or immediately after the home screen manages to appear. In one of these instances of the latter I saw the phone reporting it was at <1% battery capacity, not even a minute later, before shutting off a second time.
After connecting a charger for a minute and powering the phone back I can finally pull up the graph like the one below, showing a sudden and unexplainable drop, although the right hand side is usually much lower than ~18% when its turned back on. It then continues to charge as normal.
Granted this is after a few hours of active screen-on time, and I also occasionally see the battery level stop for several minutes at a single value while in use. Is this just an issue with the phone reporting the correct battery capacity, or something else? This is somewhat alarming considering the battery cannot be replaced.

Probably a sign of a bad battery. Eventually it will just stop working. If your under your year warranty contact htc and they can perform a repair for free. If your not I would still contact them and they will perform a repair and give you a quote.
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

Looks like I'm a several months past warranty. If it is just the battery going bad, which is pretty pathetic given the short amount of time, comparatively, maybe I'll look at replacing it myself. Won't that be fun.

Replacing it would be very difficult. It's fused to the housing of the phone. Good luck.

I found at least one video on how to perform the operation, just carefully prying off the glued parts. That will be the last resort.
HTC Support responded to my email and recommended performing a "battery reset" by holding down all three physical buttons while the phone is powered down, for two minutes. Before powering off it was at around 75% battery after charging for a little while. So as I did the button hold and it of course kept flashing the boot screen, but after two minutes I let it boot up fully and the battery was reported at 58%. So either it drained that much charge in those two minutes, or it's now giving a more accurate reading.
I'll have to continue testing to see if it still shuts off.
I have started looking at other battery calibration methods, and will try those as well.

I also believe your battery is dead. I had the same exact problem with my HTC Amaze. The problem starts with a bad kernel that runs your battery hard heats it up and ends up with a bad broken. I'm sorry to say but there's no way around replacing it. I tried everything to get more juice or of it but it was too late.

Any luck?
I was just hoping that it'd be some kind of calibration issue. I saw that same tutorial and it looks kind of hard to put it back together more than anything else.

I am already a subscriber to spinvox which is through my carrier (Telus Canada), I get it for 7.50 unlimited so I am really looking for a solution to that service. Like I said in my previous post mvisualvoicemail works great for this it actually identifies which of my email are voicemail and only displays those however I would like an app that pulls in the transcripted version too, so I can be selective in which ones I want to listen to. I figured if a program like throttle launcher can pull in the header information and display it, it wouldn't be too hard to make an app that pulls the information from an emailed voicemail and displays it nicely for review. Maybe I'll post over in the throttlelauncher thread as a request for a plugin actually.
Spinvox apparently has an app for windows mobile in a private beta test but they will not allow subscribers who subscribe through their carrier partners to use it yet.

Well after I did HTC's recommended reset I started to drain the battery to see if it would shut off unexpectedly, but it steadily went all the way down to 1% before doing so like it should. I guess that's an improvement, but I don't know how it will behave in regular usage. I then left it off to charge completely before powering it back on the next morning. Maybe it will get worse but I'll just have to wait and see, at least now it should be reporting the proper values if that was the case.
