Hi all,
I recently bought a Galaxy S3 I9300 International through a coupon (like groupon) and they sent me a Phone with CSC "COA" (cosmote, Romania)
Iinstalled my Italian sim without any issue, so i think the phone is unlocked or similar.
I noticed that the phone has the firmware XXEMC2 (March 2013?) and i want to install all new updates... but i think that Romania doesn't update regularly the official firmware (i don't see custom icons for the romanian firmware)
Is it advisable to flash the Italian Firmware (maybe the latest XXEMF6, or the actual XXEMC2), and change the CSC code to ITV to get newer updates soon?
Or i'm approaching to an unnecessary procedure that may brick my phone (or voiding the warranty?)
Thanks in advance!
Having the right CSC and unmodified status will allow you receive OTA updates, which will probably be six months behind those posted on xda.
Go to sammobile and download the latest rom for the country where you will be using the phone, flash using odin on your pc. This gives you the right modem and won't brick your phone.
Thanks for the reply.
Now i'm downloading the latest ITV firmware I9300XXEMG4_I9300ITVEMG2_ITV.zip from the site you specified (seems to be the one that Kies tries to install, since it has the icon highlighted.
Then, i need to flash the firmware twice in order to change the CSC Code, right?
Do i need to do other task, in order to have the "unmodified" status ?
Remember that the latest MG4 firmware alters the format of your efs folder. Have a look in the general section for more info.

Thanks, i'll download the same firmware i'm using now, but with CSC ITV (XXEMC2, March 2013)
Best go read the stickies in general before you flash anything, your logic on updating seems confused. The CSC code makes almost no difference to how you use the phone.

Yes i'm aware that the CSC makes no differences to the phone, but now i'm actually bound to the Cosmote carrier, and i think he doesn't release updates regularly; am I wrong?

No, the firmware is irrelevant to the carrier. Only simlock is carrier specific, if your sim works then you can use any firmware.

I think i'm confused now
That's my noob point of view:
I unboxed the phone and installed my sim without any issue, so i think it's not simlocked.
I think that the Cosmote - Romania carrier (CSC "COA") doesn't release updates often (I don't see firmware XXEMF6 or the latest XXEMG4 (/efs issue apart)
I'm sticky with stock/original/samsung firmware XXEMC2 (march 2013)
if i flash the exact revision, but ITV, (since i'm italian) Firmware i can obtain all the fresh, unbranded, updates.
now... i don't know exactly the roll-out date policy for every firmware /country, and if any carrirer can/has to "customize" a firmware in order to release (with a delay, of course) And/Or if it's interested to release an update.
What i'm thinking now is "nice. an update... let's install." but i want to be more-than-sure that this simple procedure won't brick my phone.
Please be patient with me.

Anytime you flash anything you Risk bricking your phone and or voiding your warranty. The. Only official procedures for updating your firmware are kies and ota updates.
allright.. i flashed the ITV firmware adn it went OK
but now i see the correct CSC, and Kies says that my phone doesn't support updates.
I correctly flashed a second time, but with no result.
Any tips?
You can still update your firmware with kies. To do so you need to manually input model and serial numbers . also you have to put phone in download mode before connecting to computer.

i did this procedure (i told to Kies my model and S/N ) to factory reset the phone and Kies downloaded a Firmware.
it downloaded I9300XXEMC2 (the same) but with CSC I9300QXFEMA2 :silly:
Now my phone has a UGLY splash boot of "La Fleur" carrier!
Before this madness i had a, as far i know, a International S3 (CSC EMC1 (COA))... now i have a branded Phone!
(though my sim still works without issues)
What the hell has happened?
If you want ota updates or want to update by using kies than stay with this firmware. If you want the newest unbranded firmwares than flash with Odin any firmware you like that is compatible with I 9300. Make sure CSC matches your region. The lafleur screen is the boot animation which can be replaced manually if you root. You may be able to change csc with CSC changer app. Probably need root for that too. You can always reflash the firmware update you initially flashed and were happy with. Whatever kies gives you is what the phone was programmed initially for your phone. I think. I prefer to use sammobile and Odin as you can get more current firmwares
if you want to customize your phone by changing csc or flashing firmwares even official firmwares than do not use kies or ota for updating for updating. also since customization always risky it is best to back up your EFS. this too requires Root. PLEASE READ THE STICKIES . and the FAQs . before you proceed with flashing anything else. Right now your phone is official and upgradeable through kies.If you are not happy with what samsung gives you than I suggest you ROOT

Hi,
I have recently flashed my Samsung Galaxy S2 with KE7 update which debranded my phone. Then I searched an O2 branded firmware from this website but after flashing my phone with this firmware, I am having two problems. Firstly, when I insert my sim it not only asks O2 Pay monthly customers but also asks for Tesco customer option which is quite strange. Secondly, I am not able to do any updates from KIES as it gives error message of THIS VERSION OF THE PHONE CANNOT BE UPDATED.
Can some one please help me to find out original O2 branded firmware? or how to solve this problem please?

Why is it strange you have unbranded firmware not belonging to O2 with a CSC that gives as required the O2 networks of which Tesco is a VN .
But as the man said stock O2 is available if you want to go that route .

Dude you seriously need to learn to use the quote function. It's kind of hard to figure out were the poster you are replying to post ends and your response begins.
@OP: You will have option for O2 PREPAY, O2 POST PAY and TESCO. This is normal since Tesco mobile piggy back on the O2 network, Just select O2 PostPay if you're on a contract.

Thanks for the quick response ... I was confused because previously I only had two options: O2 Pay Monthly customer, O2 Pay As you Go. I got worried because of this Tesco options as I was afraid that it may void my warranty.
Secondly, I am not able to update this version from KIES. Is it because of the current firmware version or is it because there is no update available? My phone's firmware details are as follows:
PDA: I9100XXKE7
CSC: I9100O2UKG2
Thanks again for your help.

There may just not be any firmware update out, 3UK was still on KE2 till not very long ago (not that i was on stock for more than 10min).
If you want to you can just flash a stock rom via odin, you dont need to change your CSC to a new one. (its just APN settings, and any silly bundles apps)

I have just downloaded KE2 firmware and thinking to flash KE7 version to KE2 (not sure if its a good idea) but there is a problem. The file I have downloaded from the above given link is a .exe file and I am not sure if this is the right file to use to flash my mobile?
Further, I don't know how to change CSC. Is it something we do manually or is it done automatically when we flash the firmware?
Thanks

No, bad idea, thats going backwards.
KE(X) > KF(X) > KG(X)
The exe is a self extracting archive if you had read the thread, you click it and it will extract to where you want it to.
Do some more reading about version numbers.
When flashing via odin CSC is just a part of the rom you might put into odin, as it says in the thread.

Yes you are right it is going backwards but my only motive behind this is to bring my mobile into a very simple way of updating via KIES. May be after coming to KE2 version, KIES might update it to any latest update for O2. Please advise.
Hi again,
Just wanted to share an update of my problem. I just flashed my mobile with a backward firmware of KE2 from KE7 and thought it will help to update my firmware with Kies but there is the same message displaying again, 'This version of the device cannot be updated'. :s I need help to resolve this problem as I want to send my mobile for warranty claim coz it restarts sometimes while using it and also its overheated when I use it while charging. I am worried that having a different firmware than the original one may create problem for warranty claim. ANY SOLUTION PLEASE??

Flash the O2 firmware and do a hard reset, after resetting flash the same firmware again.

Hi again,
I have some good news. I flashed my mobile with KE2 and had the same problem with KIES as it gave me same message, 'this device version cannot be updated' but when I tried update firmware from mobile setting options it detected a newer available version and so it installed KE7 version and after restart it gave me a message of additional firmware which I confirmed and now I have XWKF3 installed in my mobile. Which is a big relief now.
P.S Kies still shows the same message, 'This mobile version cannot be updated'.

Should I follow this method now which you suggested in above mentioned post to resolve this KIES update issue? and which firmware should I use to flash it ?

A simple question but i couldn't find the answer. I flashed my i9300 but i have no idea weather it came with UK, Dutch or Dutch Vodafone firmware. Is there any way to find this out?
Als is there any way a service center can look it up through your serial number or imei?

If you dont know then outside of asking Samsung all you can do is guess .
Some say Kies will give original firmware .Tools Firmware upgrade and initialization .

Why don't you flash one that's for your country? It doesn't matter for Samsung warranty if that's the case because once it's their software they don't ask questions.
Mine came with a Dutch firmware, it's a 32 GB and I flash Cyanogenmod over it.
Try http://androidfirmwares.net and look for Galaxy S3 Roms.

After i rooted and then updated through Kies, it did reset the Device status from modified to normal, but let's not confuse that with getting the firmware of the original locale/provider. Kies update didn't change the firmware. So either i already had the original firmware, or it just updates.

That's very reassuring and just what i wanted to hear
The reason i'm not sure what the original firmware is, is that in the past, two of my preordered android phones had UK firmware (probably because the UK shipped a few weeks earlier). On top of that this is my first phone with a contract (subsidized) but from a website (gsmweb) rather than the provider. So the firmware could be UK, Dutch or Dutch Vodafone afaik...
Either i have the right firmware, or Kies just reads the current firmware, not the origingal. If i ever flash another firmware, i'll check if Kies still says this (Dutch, unbranded) is my original firmware.

LH1 is a recent firmware so if your phone is older than a few months its not the original .
((Some say Kies will give original firmware ))
like i said some say that .
But i have no evidence that they are not getting a Kies report based on the HDSWVER in the windows registry .I could test as i know my original firmware but KIES is not a product i use .

Hi guys, just a generic question. What does it mean when the phone is unlocked? I got an unlocked Galaxy S III I9300 and I'm using it on US T-Mobile. Curiously, the phone came with a lot of German T-Mobile bloatware. Are all I9300 not the same? Is it possible to make it completely carrier free? Please enlighten me
It means its not locked to a network .
Branded means its branded by a carrier/network.provider .
Flashing stock rom will remove the branding .

If you do it through KIES, it will keep all the branding, because it will update the ROM for the same CSC (operator-specific firmware) you have.
You need to first install, using Odin or MobileODIN, an unbranded firmware. All countries have branded and unbranded firmwares.
For instance, an UK unbranded ROM can be downloaded like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28367295#post28367295
There are unbranded ROMs for all European countries. Use CheckFus to figure out what their CSC code is.
Thanks. So after i flash an unbranded firmware i can get the unbranded rom updates? And it won't wipe my phone right. Does samsung sell the I9300 with unbranded firmware and rom anywhere in Europe? Personally got mine on Amazon.

- It won't wipe your phone, UNLESS you tell it to.
- There aren't that many OTA updates anyway, so don't worry about it. Besides, when an update is released, you can install it on your phone using the Odin or MobileOdin methods long before it is available on the OTA. None of these require you to wipe your phone.
to use Odin you don't need root, but you do if you want to use mobileOdin.
I've flashed over 20 stock unbranded ROMs on my S III and I never did a data wipe on it, and yet it works flawlessly.
Using the top-right panel of CheckFus, you can download ANY CSC you want as long as it is for the GT-I9300. You don't have to keep it locked to a specific CSC. For Germany I believe the unbranded CSC is coded DBT (or something like that).
Hey, thanks for the info. The website for Checkfus Downloader isn't working. Do you have a link to it or can you post it here? From what I've read, CHANGING the CSC will wipe the phone right. Is there any reason for me to change the CSC to UK or something? I don't really care if the default language is German as long as I can change it to English. I just want to get rid of the bloatware and get an unbranded firmware/rom.
EDIT: Found the firmware on SamMobile. Thanks for the DBT tip.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=6505
I just want to confirm flashing that won't wipe my phone? Because the CSC is different isn't it?
EDIT 2: Read your post again. So flashing the firmware won't actually change the CSC right. I just won't be able to keep the unbranded rom if I update via KIES?

-Ok, so. Basically I can flash any unbranded firmware I want (UK, German, etc...) regardless of the CSC.
-I just have to use Odin everytime I want to update.
-Also, will I lose the unlock?
-Will there be issues with the modem/baseband/CSC incompatibility or something.
P.S. I keep asking if Odin will wipe my phone because I used to own a Galaxy S 1, and Odin was basically the last resort to flash your phone back to stock, and it was always a wipe.
Thank you.
I have a galaxy s 3 which was given to me as a gift. It was on orange, but was unlocked for me so that I can use it on o2.
I have no idea how it was unlocked, but im unsure about upgrading the software through kies.

what shall i do? I dont know if ill lose my data or block my phone by upgrading to jellybean via kies

Your phone maybe unlocked but have the same carrier firmware. You need to flash via Odin a unbranded firmware, as if you do update by kies it may lock your phone again.

So my question is this. Is there a way for me to install the update using Odin without having to root my phone? The reason I ask is that I have banking applications that refuse to run once the phone is rooted.

The barclays app detects root access and wont start if it finds root. There are probably ways around it, but it was a pain getting the thing working in the first place!

All you need to do is use SU to block the app from gaining root privileges.
Just flash JB using ODIN, reboot into download mode again and flash Siyah kernel v6 beta4.
The kernel will give you root, cwm, cwm manager and SU. Whenever a app tries to access root you will have a option to allow or block.

So flashing to an official firmware will void my warranty?
yeap, as long as it's not from your region country (unbranded) or your carrier branded ROM (locked & branded).
If you have an unbranded, unlocked phone and you are from SPAIN, you are all good.
If not, you've modified your device against your warranty's advice.
You can also make a back up of your current ROM in case you have to claim warranty.

yeap, as long as it's not from your region country (unbranded) or your carrier branded ROM (locked & branded).
If you have an unbranded, unlocked phone and you are from SPAIN, you are all good.
If not, you've modified your device against your warranty's advice.

But will it trip the flash counter and will I get the warranty back when my region's version finally comes out and I flash it?
You can remove that triangle and your binary counter with triangle away.
Official ROMs won't cause any of that because they are samsungs officials.
And yes, as I said, you can flash your country / region / carrier ROM in the future and everything will look legit.
Warranty will try to see if you messed with your device in any kind, you just need to prove you didn't.

This is the last dumb question, I promise: can I update from full stock 4.0.4 to the Spanish version without a full wipe and will I be able to flash my region's version without a wipe when it comes out + have everything look 100% legit?
lol, brick bug got you scared there huh?
Yeah, you could do that. Wipes aren't mandatory but they do help sometimes.
Take a couple of days reading threads in this section, 4.0.4 related.
This way you'll cone across some stories and you can learn about what-to-do & what not-to-do.

Actually no, I just don't feel like I want to reinstall everything because I can't do a proper backup since I don't want to root.
So let me recap this: I can flash the Spanish version without a full wipe, keep all my apps and data, flash the Nordic version when it comes available, still keep my apps and warranty without tripping the flash counter and receive official updates to the Nordic version through Kies.
Correct me if I am wrong.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I seem to have a sane chip

When nordic update rolls out you will have to flash it with odin, and only then you can update thru kies/ota.
If you flash ls8 you'll only get spain updates via kies/ota.
The easier way for you to get the right ROM for you is to back up your current ROM. When your country / region / carrier starts rolling the update you can restore thar ROM and update it via kies/ota.
Is your device unbranded or carrier branded?

Unbranded. So if I flash the nordic version on top of the Spanish one (with Odin ) I don't have to wipe at all at any point and my warranty will stay + I can then update the nordic version through kies (if this isn't the last update)
Your warranty will be voided as long as you are on ls8. After you flash your country/region ROM, warranty will resume.
LS8 is FROM spain FOR spain. If your device isn't from spain, there's no way you can get ls8 thru proper channels. That is what warranty is all about.

Yeah, I understand that.
I can use LS8 until the nordic version comes out, flash it with Odin without a wipe and then have my warranty back when I'm on the nordic version, am I right?
Hello,
A family member went to Dubai and bought back a Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). They've said it is an International model (Korean). I'm from New Zealand.
What I would like to do is install the official NZ android firmware on the device. Is this possible? Does it require me to root the device? Do I need to first change the CSC?
If I need to change the CSC, could someone please point me in the right direction?
Thank you
You don't need to root or change csc.
Go to www.sammobile.com and download official Vodafone NZ firmware.
Flash this via Odin.

Thank you, one last question. After installing the NZ version, will Kies recognise the phone and update future NZ updates?

It sure will
Feel free to PM if you need a hand or advice flashing firmware.
Awesome, thanks so much! Will PM if I need your help.
Are you sure its not a M440S? The international korean is identical to the i9300 in terms of hardware but has a different bootloader and requires a slightly different kernel.
Hi xSpeced,
How would I find out if it is a M440S?
I downloaded the VNZ (I9300XXEMA1) version from: http://samsung-updates.com/region/?region=VNZ - however Samsung Kies tells me:
"Your device's current firmware is not supported to update firmware via Kies."
"Current firmware version: PDA:MA1 / PHONE:LLA / CSC: LL1 (XSG)"
The XSG is United Arab Emirates region. Shouldn't this be changed to VNZ?

boot into recovery mate and it'll flash the VNZ CSC.
To check model number go to settings/about device and check the model number: International S3 is GT-i9300
Thanks. I have already gone into Recovery, done the Cache wipe and Reset. I then went into Download mode and used Odin to flash the downloaded file.
Settings says the device is GT-I9300.
Do I need to do another Cache wipe and Reset?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: My phone says
AP: I9300XXEMA1
CP: I9300XXELLA
CSC: I9300VNZELL1
So, the CSC has changed. Just Kies says (XSG)?

What you have done is fine.
Generally after flashing different firmware through Odin your CSC code doesn't change until you next boot into recovery then it automatically flashes new CSC.
If your phone says VNZELL1 then you're sweet mate. Have you checked in Kies again, maybe your CSC hadn't changed when you checked?
Either way it sounds like you've now got it sorted.
Kies is a pretty crappy piece of software I would uninstall it personally. You have all the drivers needed and Odin so Kies is pretty much irrelevant now. As soon as new firmware is available you can just flash with Odin.
I flash the latest firmware with the highest changelog regardless of country, right now I'm running Hong Kong firmware.
Enjoy your new phone!
Awesome, thank you so much for your help and information. I'm an Android freak but I get scared when it comes to flashing and rooting. Learning as I go.
Left my phone at home as had to pop out. So will pop into recovery mode and try again.
What do you use to back your phone up without Kies?

Just a question...i also got my phone from dubai thats why...why do you want to change your country on the phone? I think dubai gets OTA's before new zealand gets them...isnt it?

I sent you a PM. My phone shows me a Software Update notification, asking me to register. But it says, processing failed. Doing a Google on this now, but if you have any ideas, that would be most appreciated.
Edit: I've fixed this myself with help of Google. Silly me forgot to sign into my Samsung Account. Now getting OTA updates. Doing a 24mb update as we speak.

I just prefer a NZ version of the software, really. I'm not worry about when NZ gets the updates.
