Which kernel to do what ? If you mean root the phone, use Siyah or PhilZ -search for/read the appropriate threads for how to.

Once you've rooted your phone, there are a number of unlock methods - which a simple search will yield.

running root checker says the phone is not rooted
am i doing something wrong?
cheers
jon

Mismatching your ROM with what you're trying to flash, check the second post again.
If all you want is root you can flash siyah v6.tar

Hi
I got hold of a S2 and would like to know if there is a CF-Root option for this phone ... details of the updated phone:
Model: GT-9100G
Android:
2.3.6
Baseband:

Kernel:

No. If you flash I9100 firmware (rom or kernel) on your I9100G you will brick it. Try this thread.

You mention your links ... but all I see there is:
GT-I9100G_DZKI1_insecure
GT-I9100G_ZCKHI4_insecure
How is this relevant to my version?
How would I know exactly what kernels are in that thread ? Have you read past the first page or searched the thread ? Thought not Have you bothered to search for yourself ? Again, I doubt it.

It's nice to blast when you have the answers ... the forum is for questions ... even in the last few pages in your thread (as this is one of the latest builds) ... people are asking the same question on the version with no answers from you ... so that is why I asked the question.
If you were looking for a version and didnt know where to find it ... Im sure you would love getting a response like this? ... And I have flashed and rooted my tablet and sgs1 ... for this specific build on the s2 I didnt see it ... so perhaps if its not the biggest amount of brain-drain for you ... please could you provide a link maybe? ... It would others find it fast too ... you do have an extensive number of posts ... and a 1st page find for a new version just helps people looking for it .... what you think?
Me provide a link after that little tanty ? Um, how about no ? Not going to happen.

I actually have been searching on the build number and have not found any answer on it. I wouldn't have asked the question if I found the answer. Previously I have found all the answers for my tablet and sgs1 here with no need to ask as I could fine relevant version to flash them and root them. If I don't need to talk to anyone about it I wouldnt ... just with so many versions of phones even the sgs1, it is a risk to get hold of the wrong versions.
Anyway .. too much tıme and effort wasted already just writing the comments on this question. Thanks for showing interest

Hi .. yes I got it sorted (but not wıth the help or direction from the guys above) ... I now have the g version rooted and flashed (althought I have the yellow triangle on boot - Im not worrıed about that, root more ımportant). If you have pre v 2.3.6 then you can root it without using odin. Odin causes the triangle. If you have not udpated to yet and are on 2.3.5 or earlier let me know as there is ways to root and get the Clockworkmod Recovery loaded without using Odin, thus not increasing the binary counter.
I also have the international version which was pre 2.3.6 so I got that rooted etc all fine this way and then flashed it (from the internal SD to ICS 4.0.3 without increasing the counter).

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately my phone is brand new (1 day old) and I installed the latest Samsung OTA update already (stupid, I know) so I am on 2.3.6 with kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2 and build XXLB1.
I want to get an ICS ROM running ASAP but I'm only familiar with HTC phones and not Samsung root methods. I'm not sure if I can use SuperOneClick or if I have to use Odin (and which kernel to use?) ... there's a lot of info out there but it's really hard to find someone with my exact model/rev and I don't want to brick my new baby!
It sounds like I should use Odin, but could you explain what kernel you used when you rooted? Thanks very much!!
EDIT: Not sure this matters as far as which kernels I can flash, but my baseband is I9100GXXKL4.

Hi ... I had the same concerns ... 1 day old and how not to brick it ... In the end I just decided to go at it and get it sorted. I downloaded the following ROM to flash with ODIN (I9100GXWKJ2_I9100GODDKJ2_INU.zip) ... you can get it from hotfile.com (http://hotfile.com/dl/147046000/0697ece/I9100GXWKJ2_I9100GODDKJ2_INU.zip.html) ... I loaded it in Odin (phone in download mode) using the PDA option (if the zip has a password, just use the following as the password: samfirmware.com) ... completed and phone is back ... go back to download mode and get the following kernel (MyGKernelV1.1.1_CWM5 i9100G) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327509
Enjoy
just sharing on how we can remove the yellow triangle on boot of G s2..
>Assuming you have already rooted with any rooted kernel (ex: myGkernel/superatmos kernel)
>Run “HC-ktool”. Tap "Dump current kernel", then Tap "Reboot to Download Mode"
>When in Download Mode, start Odin, connect the phone and flash any stock Samsung kernel. Phone will reboot itself after that.
>Run “ktool” again Tap "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage" (zimage should be the zimage file of ur rooted kernel...copy this zImage in sdcard), then Tap "Reboot"...done
thanks for the info everyone, unfortunately i had issues with my gs2g (mp3 player skipping, gps not locking location well) and so i returned it. it's a beautiful phone but i thought it was too expensive for me to deal with any issues. now i'm hoping for the HTC one x soon! b
best wishes !

Really Need Help Rooting S2 I9100P

Hello i hope someone can help, i just got a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100P, I updated over Kies, as it said there was a new update, so i went from gingerbread to what i believe is ics, my phone now says:
Model Number: I9100P
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version I9100PXXLPC
Kernal Version: [email protected]#3
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPH
I used Odin and this file: CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPH-v5.2-CWM5.zip from Here, it went through all the process in Odin but would not boot, (i done the process twice) both times i had the triangle show, phone turned off and would not come back on, i was able to use cwm, and was able to put phone in bootloader. I found a site where i could put it back to normal so i could turn it back on, So what i would like to know is where can i download a CF that works, or if someone knows another way to root my phone could you please let me know, really losing the will to live trying for 2 days to root this phone

Need help finding insecure kernel please

Hi, My names Drew, and I just recently joined xda to tinker around with my phone and explore the possibilities that the manufacturers apparently didn't want us to have. I have had my phone for quite a while and I felt it was time to play with it some more. I am have the Samsung Galaxy S2, it is StraightTalks version of it, here are the details on it found through the about-phone.
Firmware: 2.3.6
BasebandVersion: S720C.01 VLI02
Kernel Version: [email protected] -55 #2 PREEMPT Wed Sep 12 10:20:26 KST 2012
I was not sure of which information was needed to get a insecure kernel version, as I could not find anything specifically geared to my phone on these forums. I was unable to directly post on the developers thread due to my low post count (which I would hope should soon get higher as time moves on). So basically, to the point, what insecure kernel should I use since I am a first time rooter? I understand everything here in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 except for step two when it's talking about kernal versions.
I moved your question to a new thread in the proper forum where someone can help you out.

I am not sure(gb is old school) but your kernel version isn't exactly shown, and your current kernel already kinda looks like a insecure kernel, I suggest that you dial *#1234# check the pda info and since the kernel usually matches the firmware(pda) version get one kernel according to that.
Edit: Safer thing to do would be to upgrade to JB and rooting it(which is fairly easier I think).

Just get a stock jb operating system from sammobile and flash via Odin, there are a lot of threads that cover those matters, read stickied threads, it's a really easy and simple procedure, just be careful not to make mistakes (like suddenly flashing pit files).

I went on sammobile, and looked through their firmware list and mine was not even on there. So that brings me to my next question, since mine is a straight talk phone, and is NOT on the list, is there a possibility that my phone will be bricked flashing a stocked jb operating system to it?

What do you mean by "straight talk" is it some kind of network operator, and are you using some kind of network unlocked device (I am asking because you mentioned Verizon), I will tell you one simple thing though if your device model( as given in the about phone - >model number) is GT-I9100 then it's safe to flash any i9100 JB firmware (especially since you're on GB) if the phone gets sim locked or something you can use the unlock apps available here or in the playstore to unlock it.

It was actually SCH-S720C, sorry I was being a busybody on android area51, I managed to solve my own issue and root my phone. With all the trouble of trying to figure out which insecure kernel I needed to flash, I found out that my phone is actually the Samsung Proclaim, even though I have never heard my phone be called that before. And yes it was Straighttalk, its like Net10. Sorry to leave everyone who replied since my last reply hanging, I have been very busy lately. Thanks for replying on my thread to help me out.

My issue is that i cant find the correct CF-Root
I must have a new kernel? I am trying to Root without bricking the phone Details are:
Model - GT-I9100T
Android Version - 4.1.2
Baseband Version - I9100TDVLS3
Kernel Version - 3.0.31-889696

All help would be greatly apprecaited in trying to find the correct CF-Root version for this Kernel.

Hint: We don't use CF ROOT since the 4.0.4 mess.
Now you know what-not-to search for.

Hi guys! I'm a noob, and I have some questions

Hi guys!
First of all, I'm sorry if my english sounds wierd, not my main language.
I'm not here to ask witch rom or kernel are the best, just some help.
Recently I got an S2 - GT-I9100 with stock 4.1.2 room. I'm loving this phone, and I kinda like the samsung's rom even tough it consumes a lot of battery. I'm kinda curious about CyanogenMod and using moded kernels, but, I'm kinda afraid of messing up everything and brick my phone. Checked if I had the eemc firmware insane chip and I got it, so it makes me even more insecure of trying out new stuff.
Now for the questions:
I have this phone locked to a carrier, can I still flash it?
Can I flash it even if I have the eemc bug without any problems?
Can you guys recomend a really good newbie guide with each and every step to flash and install a new kernel? (I've looked around this website and the internet, but, those that I find kinda' dont explain everything in an easy way)
I've instaled clockworkmod on my phone, but it says it dosent suport it. why not?
Can I have a custom kernel with sammy's stock room?
thanks in advance.
1) Yes, you can flash custom firmware if your phone is carrier locked
2) Yes, you can flash your phone despite having a chip susceptible to the EMMC bug, which only affects phones running rooted stock 4.0.4 firmware
3) Do not attempt to flash anything to your phone until those guides make sense. Right now they look like they 'don't explain things in an easy way' because you obviously don't know a lot about Android, and in particular this phone. If you take the time to read/learn, the guides very quickly will become easy to understand & you'll know what you're doing. Flashing without knowing what you're doing leads to busted phones & dented wallets.
4) Without knowing exactly what you flashed, I have no idea. If you want to root your phone, there is a thread stickied near the top of Q&A that has all the info you need. It honestly doesn't get any simpler than that thread. If you don't find it easy to understand, as I said above, don't do anything to your phone until you do.
5) Yes, you can run a custom kernel with a stock rom

Yes, its better not to flash it before I fully understand what I'm doing. Would you recommend some guides that I can read, from your personal experience?
And I instaled cwm from google play. -____-"

If you flash Philz kernal for your software build its a safe kernal from the brick bug. If you download the zip file it will not only put the safe kernal on but also root it. Link below

If you're running rooted 4.0.4 stock & you do a factory reset, there's a fair chance you'll brick your phone. For the technical version, Google/XDA search is your friend.

If you flash Philz kernal for your software build its a safe kernal from the brick bug. If you download the zip file it will not only put the safe kernal on but also root it. Link below

Hi once more!
Can I ask you for some more help? I read the post about philz kernel, understood what I have to do and I want to thank you about trying to help me. I'm sorry to bother you once more, since I prefer to be certain.
Got the GT-I9100
I got stock 4.1.2
Baseband is I9100BULS1
Kernel version is 3.0.31-88955 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT KST 2013
Compilation Number is JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
So I guess the one that I need to download and install is:
<< 17.04.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v4.93.6 with CWM 6.0.3.1 based recovery >>
XWLSD (bootloop fixed)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4cb3mf...3.6-signed.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q642zb...4.93.6.tar.md5
Also I got SuperSU already installed, this means I have to unistall it and do this or can I install this kernel anyway?

No worries, Im happy to help.
If you already have superuser just download the "tar" file and flash it with odin as thats just the kernal.
Your build is LSD, download that one. which is philz 5.06.1
Your LSD build is quite old, have a look on samfilmware for your region as im sure you should get atleast LSW. Theres also LSZ and MS1 builds out.
Sorry here is the one you need
http://www.mediafire.com/download/q642zb02je6l1bb/PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSD-OXX-4.93.6.tar.md5
Sorry for being such a pain in the ass.
Well tbh, this phone is second hand, and the guy that sold it to me, had a custom rom on it but I asked him to flash it back to stock at the time. it came with stock 2.4 or something, but I updated it trough kies to 4.1.2. I looked around samfilmware and I only saw the build I have right now. I dont think I can update it
So I only need to get odin3, put the cellphone in dm, flash the new tar and thats it?

Hi once more, and thanks for everything! Well, I managed to lose my fear of trying it and managed to flash it using the instructions from philz tread. Everything went all right!
I live in portugal, and my carrier is vodafone, I think that the build I have is the most updated one.
Really, thanks for helping me with this!

Your next step is flashing a custom rom Have a look at the link below. Battery life is amazing on this rom.

But the EMMC bug doesn't affect any S II phones with JB roms does it?
Correct (4.0.4 being ICS). Even if you have a susceptible chip, the firmware has to have the bug which causes the chip to be scrambled/corrupted, which means anything before 4.0.4 or anything after (or anything custom for that matter) poses no problems.

I'm at work right now, so I can only do it after work. So I just need to, follow the instructions on the NEAT ROM post to flash it? They dont say how to backup your things tough but I searched in this forum and found how to do it-. So I only need to use the cwm to back it up. Does it back up EFS folder too?
You have been so far a really helpful dude, thanks mate! Was kinda afraid of posting something here, but turns out there is really nice people around here!
Btw if the mods want I can just PM you for some help instead of posting here.
