I just formatted a 64gb USB flash drive in NTFS format and dropped a couple of mkv movies on it. I put them in a folder titled movies and nothing else is on the drive. When I attach the drive to my tablet using and OTG connector it mounts fine using paragon NTFS. But when I search the corresponding directory my files/folder contain the movies are nowhere to be found. Does anyone have some advice on what I may be doing wrong.
BTW I'm rooted/unlocked running CM 10.1 stable if that applies.

Why are you using paragon? CM mounts NTFS just fine... Maybe try it without?

Give USB OTG Helper a try. You can find it in the playstore.
I used this app on my Xoom to mount NTFS. I never tried no my Nexus, as I'm now with a FAT pendrive that mounts just fine
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
i use stickmouny also. no problem at all. try pppwidget also for 3g.
Yet another guy here who has only used StickMount, which can mount NTFS read and write just fine. It's also free. Sorry. Wish I had some experience with Paragon.
Stickmount or Nexus Media Importer makes it simple. I couldn't be asked to try and make it work with other things when a solution exists for the price of a soda.
StickMount is good.

I use stickmount free too. Long time no problem. Just yesterday i was trying to copy big pictures (.jpg 5/7 Mb each) on a usb pen of 16 Gb, sandisk if I remember well, and i got many problems. It was no possible to delete files, and suddendly stopped copying saying the there was not enough space in the file system... The usb was empty....

Fixed. It was a matter of cache lagging the whole system and not right format (ntfs)....

I do the same thing but I am running CM10.1 and don't have a problem either browsing for it through Astro file manager or via the stock gallery app.

Hi,
The new ICS builds work great but one of the issues if you use a USB Adapter and you mount a USB stick to it it does not ask you to unmount it.
I wrote a little app just to do that, to safely un-mount the USB stick before you remove it from the Tablet. You may still get the android.process.media has stopped error, but you can ignore it.
This should work on all Galaxy Tablet 10.1 versions.
ChangeLog:
2012/02/18 Version 1.0 Initial release.
Tested and it works. Just install the application and run it when you want to remove the flash disk. You need to tap on the Android and you will see the message that the stick has been unmounted.
You may only get the error message the first time. I you plug in a USB stick again, when removed you don't get the error message.
Definitely a must have for those using USB sticks with the adapter.
Deleted.
Sorry, post wrong area

Running AOKP build 23, ICS does not mount my flash drive with the usb adapter. Stickmount in the market fixes this, and has an unmount command as well.
No problem mounting on isi's ROM. This application is only for unmounting.
Tested Stickmount and the functionality is the same. The error message after removing the stick is also there.

Will this work for the Galaxy Note?
You can try and if it doesn't work just uninstall it.

I've tried the app on a cheap Chinese WM8850 based tablet running ICS and it doesn't work. It says that the drive is unmounted, but the files are still visible even if USB scanning is disabled. The drive can be unmounted by going through the Settings menu and it's under storage>USB>unmount SD card (sic). That unmounts the drive (and doesn't unmount the SD card). A button on the home page to do the job would be welcome, but I'm not (yet) sufficiently familiar with ICS to have a go at writing one.
I have been just pulling out my usb and nothing bad has happened.
Maybe a stupid question, but is it really necessary to unmount before pulling out the USB?
I know that things could go wrong, but is it really risky to just pull out?
Not absolutely necessary but a good practise. I have run into a few issues on my Windows system due to delayed write operations. It's just a habit I acquired and hasn't done any harm.

Ok I'm gonna try my best and explain it, this is certainly the case for windows PCs at least and I'm assuming the option is there in Android, as it does the same thing.
Basically when you write files to a removable storage device, it holds part of the data in a buffer if there isn't enough data for it to warrant the process being carried out. Unless you copy a substantial amount for it to do it in one go of course.
If it has got some data in the buffer, when you tell it to unmount, you're actually telling it to write any remaining data to the removable storage, flush the buffer and eject the device.
The problems occur if you pull out the device before "all" the data has been written, ending up with corrupt files on the device you were copying it to.
Hope this all makes sense and gives you an answer to your question.

I have this microsd card 64gb SanDisk class 10 and the phone formatted it to fat32 the first time I inserted it.
I download a lot of stuff from my.phone internet like torrent, hd videos, live stream, etc....
the problem is that my phone does not want to save anything more than 4gb and splitting the files is not.possible as I download it directly onto my phone.
afaik, ntfs supports file larger than 4gb. Is there anyway to make my phone support sdcard formatted on ntfs? If so, does it have any drawbacks like poor reliability, performance, program incompatibility, crashes?
Oh boy... Make sure your card is formatted for your phone and not for your computer. From there if you mount as sd card(hard disk mode) it will read as a flash drive and limit the maximum transfer for windows at 4012mb if I'm not mistaken..
however, if you mount as media sync instead of hard disk mode you will be able to drag and drop ANY size file from your pc to phone.

I think you misunderstood what I mean.
first of all, I am not using a pc.or a Mac to download myfiles.
I am downloading everything directly to my.phone by apps such as ttorrent(for torrent stuff), tubemate(for yiutube), flash video downloader add on for Firefox(for flash videos) and etc...
the problem is, I cannot download stuff that is bigger than 4gb(like full 1080p blu ray rip movie, tv shows, pc software and games, etc...)
also, I mostly download stuff when I am on school campus because the internet (free WiFi) there is so much faster than what I have and using a.smartphone.to download is so convinient as it stays on my pocket.
If your going to be downloading 4gb+ files from the internet without a pc middleman then you can't use fat32 on any disk with any given space. You must format to ntfs or ext4. I would use ext4 because windows 7 & android recognizes them and they do not have a 4096mb file limit.
However Some androids won't recognize a ntfs file system. There is an app for that to remount ntfs to ext 4 on the market. But since you use your phone and not your computer I would just format to ext4.

are you 100% sure EVO 4g LTE supports Exfat?
I also heard problems regarding exfat on gs3 being not being able to recognize/read some files.
if my memory.serves me tight, when I bought my SanDisk 64gb class 10 microSD, it is formatted in exfat.but when I plug it to my EVO 4g LTE, it ask to format and it automatically made it fat32

FAT or FAT32 is a different format then usual and this method does restrict file sizes to 4GB max. Also if memory serves, this limits the partition size to 32GB max, so you may now have nearly half of your card un-partitioned. Simply place your card in a card reader and connect to your computer and quick format it to NTFS. I have a 16GB card and have used it since my OG Evo 4G and currently have a 7.8GB .mkv movie file on it. Reads and plays with no problems on my Evo 4G LTE. Hope this helps.
I have a Sero 7 Pro that has a 32GB micro SD card. I would like to take it with me to the deer lease so I can back up all my trail cam pics to the 32GB card. So I got a micro USB to female USB adapter. Plugged a 16GB SD card into a card reader and plugged it into my adapter. The Sero 7 will not see the memory card at all. I have tried all the free usb mount apps and usb mass storage apps on Google play. I even rooted (thanks to this great forum) my tablet last night and it still won’t see the memory card or my Verbatim flash drive (all formatted as FAT32). Is there something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't been able to mount any external USB drive. The only work-around that I've found is to use Nexus Media Importer from the store. It doesn't mount the drive per se but it does let you copy files back and forth. It's not free, but reasonable (about $4 if memory serves).

Thanks the free version was able to show the pics. So I downloaded the full version and its failing license check.
I'm afraid I can't help there. It worked fine on mine. You might want to uninstall and then re-install. If it still fails, I would contact the developer.

Thanks, it started working after a few hours. Do you know how to change the saved destination folder? Its saving the pics to my internal memory. Only having 5GB left it will not hold all my pics. I want it to save them to my micro sd card.
In the settings there is an option to let you select directories. If you then use the "advanced" tab, you get a file manager that lets you select both the source and destination directories. I don't know if it remembers them from one time to the next, though.
PowerAmp is not really working that well for me in 4.2. It shows my external sd card, however, it doesn't show any of my folders underneath the tree. I have tried to reinstall, clear app data, and whatnot, but nothing seems to work. I'm formatted in FAT32, and was wondering if anyone on 4.2 got this to work? I'm guessing my card might need to be formatted to exFAT? But i'd like to get confirmation before I transfer 50gb of data to my computer/back to my sd.
It works fine for me on 4.1.2 with fat32.

I jump between TW & AOSP pretty often - I've never noticed any problems with Poweramp in CM 10.1 (Android 4.2.2) - I've got a lot of nested folders and they are all accessible in-app.

Really weird. This looks like a pretty common issue from what i've been seeing. I did an absolutely clean wipe. I'm formatting my card to exFAT right now because I had some issues and heard that FAT32 doesn't work.
I will report back if it fixes the problem.

My card is fat32. I think many people switched to fat32 because some ROMs wouldn't work well with exfat.

I'm running MeanBean ICE and PA has been playing a song and locking up when it ends recently. I haven't had any filing system issues.
I just reinstalled. I haven't been to the car, so I'm not sure if it's fixed.
It was the ROM. Carbon has charging issues. I switched to XenonHD and it works perfectly fine.
Formatting the SD/going from exfat4>exfat did nothing.
I lost a lot of files because it would constantly drop the USB connection and transferring files would fail.
PowerAmp shows my storage tree now...

Well from what o understand on AOSP for full compatibility you need to format to fat32, else you risk corruption and read/write issues.

Well, I have been on a mission for the past few days not only to allow r/w for NTFS on the Mojo, but also to be able to use more than one USB device (hard drives, sticks) at once. I noticed by default if I had my 2TB HD connected and then connected another drive, the second drive would not show up. Not until the first drive was unmounted. Basically, one drive at a time. Well, this does not cut it for me as I would like to be able to leave my 2TB connected to the hub and then connect a secondary drive whenever I wanted to move items over to the larger drive. After testing various applications, I FINALLY found the fix.
Initially I tried Paragon NTFS, and while that worked, it was buggy. The NTFS drive would not unmount sometimes, and I had to mount it to a custom folder even to get it to work.
But then, I tried Chainfire's "Stickmount". It works! It re-mounts your drives to /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1, sdb1, etc. My 2TB is sda1, when I connect my 500GB NTFS it is sdb1, etc. Copying/moving/deleting on NTFS works (my 500GB is formatted NTFS) and copying from one drive to another works. It all just works. The program auto loads on reboot and auto mounts everything. If I use the app to unmount, it will unmount the last mounted drive first (my 500GB, then my 2TB if I choose again) which works out beautifully. Now I can leave my 2TB media drive in there at all times, and if I want to either bring something to it or work with some other files on a USB stick...well I just have to insert it and in a few seconds it is also mounted
I had to reroute all of my emulators paths to look for my roms at the new location and Poweramp to look at the new location for my MP3's, but thats all. Now I have multiple drive support as well as NTFS r/w support. Fantastic. I tried rebooting several times and it remounts each time. Read various games, movies and so on from the mounted drives and everything works.
Just a heads up on this EASY fix. What an awesome application! All you need for this is root

Hey thanks for sharing, but not many people check the dev forums, maybe delete this one and create it in the general forum :/
Does it spin down the drives while not in use and activate them back when required?

I believe spindown is a feature of the hard drive more than it is a feature of the OS (or OS tells the HD to spin down, and if the HD has the feature it will). My HD is a 2TB Seagate with it's own power plug. It is always available when I access it so I assume it is not spinning down. I used to be heavily into the Wii (hacking, modding, etc) a long time ago and remember running into issues with hard drive spindown (some would and some would not) and it ended up being the HD's firmware that either told it to or not to.Some manufacturers offered an alternate firmware with no spin down, and some did not (mostly WD drives). Where the Wii was concerned, you did not want it spinning down when you were running DVD rips
I have been using stickmount now for a few days and it has not let me down. It works great. I only wish I could find a way to have Android not auto mount the HD. Basically when you boot the Mojo with a HD connected, Android will mount it. Stickmount wil also mount it. Not a big deal, but you end up with the same drive on two different mount points. Every other drive you plug in afterward are mounted only by stickmount of course.
One thing I should mention is to make sure you hit "yes" for downloading additional files when you first run it. This downloads the NTFS 3G and exFAT drivers

Yeah sounds right, I think it's more on the OS (or in this case the app) just putting the HD in like a hibernation mode.. to save power etc.
I guess if you have a powered hub, it's best to just keep it always on like the mojo.
Mounting with stickmount is the only way I've been able to get write on my NTFS drive, but I'm trying to get it to happen automatically at boot. What I have to do is use Paragon to unmount the drive, then use Stickmount to do the mounting. The stickmount unmount doesn't work, and the Paragon mount doesn't result in a writeable drive...
What I would really like to do is disable the automatic Android mount on startup... I'm thinking that will allow Stickmount to do the mounting automatically... Thoughts?

Although I no longer own the Mojo, I will say that stickmount does mount on boot if you purchase the Pro version. The only issue I had was that multiple mount points then existed because Stickmount mounted and Android mounted. It made things annoying like certain music players finding two of the same song and so on. I searched high and low for the ability to disable the internal Android auto mounting of USB drives, but could not find any solution.
In case anyone else see this thread installing CM12 rom will resolve this issue
