Browser for Windows with Android UA - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any body know if something like that exists? Or even a site that has a java app or something running that redirects to a mobile version of a site.
I'm looking to check how a few android versions of sites look without having to install the full SDK. Also would like to be able to use a mobile version of a site from a normal PC for other reasons (it shows different information which I require).

I found this by doing a quick google search... But is there any particular reason why you do not share the url yourself??
Not really. The forum does not allow junior members to specify any external URL or email address inside the message.

I see... http://www.dorothybrowser.com/
I have tried this on 3 different sites so far with very mixed results.
It locked up my phone completly while trying to access google.co.uk This happened on 2 seperate occasions.
I tried touch.facebook.com and it renders this site very nicely indeed. I was most impressed with this one.
I also tried the full facebook site facebook.com I found it was able to render this site completly just how my desktop computer would. Very impressive Text was readable after zooming just a few times, even though the text was still tiny. Very slick rendering. Its a tad jerky while moving around the page i suspect my device is struggling a bit with the requirments.
I noticed ram usage is very high. I only had 25 mb left when i checked. Haven't seen a program use this much ram before.
All in all it looks very promising.
BTW my device is Omnia i900 with wm6.5
Just downloaded and installed the WVGA version. Massive improvement over the closed beta! Pages seem to load pretty fast too. Installed on Storage Card.
Bugs noticed:
* Can't zoom in or out when a webpage is still loading - as soon as a I try to scroll the page resets to overview mode.
* Settings page doesn't always show current settings (ie. Enable/Disable buttons appear to be not selected)
Feature Requests:
* Zoom slider and/or pinch-to-zoom please.
* Option to set manually the browser cache location
* User agent customisation
* (Optional) Flash support
Eagerly awaiting the next beta release. Thanks
Looks promising to me.
I have one request... Flash!
Thus far the only browser I've found that supports flash is SkyFire .. and I suppose Mach5 but you gotta pay for that one. Anyway both of those are server based browsers.
FLASH FLASH FLASH.
Gawwd is it too much to ask to watch HULU on my PPC?
Hulu has even blocked Skyfire now....grrrr
Can't detect server on my Touch Pro 2 on metro pcs. I can use it (browser) via wifi...but no data connection.
So i will stick to Opera 9.7....

Hmm, I actually had a similar problem with another website - for some reason it loaded up really slowly / not properly either. Opening the same website in Opera Mobile 10 beta 3 had on the same phone with the same connection it had no issues.
Thanks! I've tried, and...it eats so much ram! I prefer Skyfire, who have flash support.

Opera Mobile 10 (now in beta 3) supports flash, YMMV. Plugins need to be enabled in advanced options.
Plugin support is a must for mobile browsers now - Dorothy needs it as well, to stand a chance.
this is starting to become pretty cool. Interface looks good and pages look great after they render. Please think about including flick scrolling cuz it would help make moving through pages easier. It also seems buggy when trying to pan around. I hope you continue updating good ol dorothy! Big improvement over recent upgrades! please update us frequently too
Company100, can u guys use like a newer build of the Webkit browsing engine or something? Would like to be able to use the HTML5-enabled versions of GMail and the Google Buzz mobile websites.
Thanks
Life Saver.. Sort of
My entire peer set uses Gowalla which is only available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry... basically every platform but WinMo. This is the first mobile browser that works with that particular site for WinMo. I still use Skyfire as my main browser for my Pure, but I bet the Emerald release of Dorothy will change that. I also found it faster on the sites it could access VS. Skyfire. So if you can hear me Company100 PLEASE include me in the beta as soon as possible for Emerald.
Shalom,
SAB
WOOOOW, I'm very impressed. Really cool browser. Rendering is awesome.
But needs some improvements in cinetic scrolling! and the browser graphics. Looks like a 90-tech-underground-site-style. Keep it simple and clean. Less is more
What about longpress menus? Like press'n'hold on a link opens a menu where you can open in another tab. OHHH, just saw it now. No tabbed browsing...
If I remember correctly, Webkit is partly LGPL licensed, more specifically, webcore is, that I know. I am unable to find source code related to Dorothy's port of Webkit on Winmo.
I understand that LGPL can be linked to closed-source applications, but the library themselves must comply with the license, which states that the source code must be disclosed.
As Dorothy browser does dynamically links to webkit (webkit-ce.dll), they do not have to release the source code of the application itself, only the source code of their branch of webkit. I think it is generally considered okay to not release themselves the code if the same exact code is available from another project's website. Additionally, the source code has to be as easily accessible than the binaries.
This post may seem harsh, and I am sorry if my tone is mistaken. I simply am curious and am not thinking that they are deliberately making it hard to get the source code. I think it is not malice, but simply carelessness. Those license are not easy to abide to.
[EDIT]
I will contact them directly too, but I posted there because I may have been blind and didn't see the source elsewere...

[Q] VPN server?

Hi,
Tomorrow my girlfriend leaves for China for a week, and she'll be missing the usual things, facebook, youtube and such. Is there a way I can set up a VPN server on my PC so she can get connected to my machine (in Hong Kong) and get proper uncensored traffic from China? Which app should she use to connect? She has a Galaxy Note.
I tried this before (with windows 7 default server), with not much success. I can try either Windows or Kubuntu for the server, whichever is easier to work with.
Could you guys give me a hand on this?
Thanks a lot!
Simply download UltraSurf aka UltraReach aka 无界 over at www .ultrareach. com/ for desktop use, this app is the best free one click way to breach the censorship. I use this app on daily basis here in China. On handset wise if your girl friend uses android devices, just browse the market and download "Verizon Opera", a browser based on Opera Mini 5 that Opera made for Verizon customers since it sends data directly to Verizon wireless servers which bypasses the government firewall. Its features are a little bit outdated, no in browser download support or flash or offline browsing, yet still itis the most simple solution on the go to visit blocked sites such as twitter, fb, cnn, bbc, deutschland world (dw.de), IRF, etc.

Ok, I'll definitely try that version of Opera, thank you for the information!
Regarding Ultrasurf, what's the difference with the (allegedly) newer UltraVPN? Both of these are desktop clients, but I believe she'll be taking only the phone this time. I thank you for the tip, as those seem to be free (first time I find a free VPN server, I'm a bit suspicious as why is that one free), but I'd like to find an equivalent for Android, if possible
Sibling products? To be very honest I'm not quite sure about the ultraVPN. The reason that ultrasurf is free of charge is word on the street says this app is sponsored by anti censorship groups and funds based in the US, with a sole purpose - to help netizen in mainland China breach the system. In other words it's not developed by any ordinary commercial firm.
Yes there are other solutions aside of ultrasurf, like Tor for Firefox, Google's own goagent (which has certain traffic limit for free users 1GB per day.), but non of which offers similar easy to use features as ultrasurf does.
The reason why most mainstream US vnp services are down in China is that those vnp providers have been blocked by Chinese government's GFW way beforehand.

Good to know. Thank you very much indeed!
For the phone thouhg, there's no other free alternative, right?
Thank you!
The goagent I mentioned before is a universal proxy solution on both desktop and handheld platforms. Follow a step by step tutorial which can be found by Googling, set up a free account for goagent on desktop. Then download GAEProxy from market to your android device, choose goagent type of proxy, configure it with the account you set before and you are hooked up. In this way all apps like native twitter, Facebook, linked in, browsers, YouTube client are with the mighty force of Google's proxy. But for instant and light web use, I still recommended Verizon Opera.

Is there any way to access google market/play without a smartphone ?

Hello
My question is:
Is there any way to access google market/play without a smartphone?
Because there are people out there, that do not like to synchronize their mobile phones to google or don't want google to see their behaviour and more on smartphones.
A while ago I read something about a small team that could get access to the market throught the sdk or combined with it.
However, if someone allready did it, I would be thankful to get some more information about it.
You can go to the website.
There is also an unofficial API and a few applications for Java and Win32 to download apks with your market profile.
Web browser, tinfoil hat optional.
I'm using Real Apk Leecher tool for windows but keep in mind that this is against the google rules...
Maybe try play.google.com?

He wants the apk, at play.google.com you can only login with your gmail account and send the apps to your phone instead of getting the apk's to your pc :/
thanks for the tips!!
any other suggestions?
theres a whole host of other sites you can use, if you type the app name in google
it will probably direct you to the play store first then give you options of other sites to choose from where you can download them . . mainly if the apps are free though
http://download.pandaapp.com/
^^ that is a site i've used a couple of times.
transfer the app onto your and use a file manger like Astro to install.

Codename Android safe to use?

Just installed the Wizzed Bean Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011601) for the Motorola Razr phone.
Everything works fine but I looked up Codename Android within Firefox, running the addon WOT ( web of Trust), it has listed the main website www.codenameandroid.com as dangerous?
Any ideas why?
Because they brick your Phone when you don't read the Instructions

Another thing I have noticed
Another thing I have noticed is, there is two instances of Android Keyboard installed.
Android Keyboard - 428KB - version 4.0.3-eng-root.20120308.075356
Android Keyboard - 628 KB - version 4.2-517167
Any reason for this ?

How to Convert Website into Android App

Is there any way to convert website into android app? I have a website carpet cleaner picks and I want to make an app as well. What I want is complete website must be converted into android app? This is something called webview or something like that if I am not wrong.
There have been dedicated apps for that, which in time lost functionality.
You can fiddle with the Sketchware app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.besome.sketch which is a very simple visual programming app for Android, and put together an app which opens a webview of your site. You can build anything on that even without being a programmer.
See what I did with the website of our scientific society (and I'm no programmer at all): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.debernardis.SITD_in_tasca
EDIT: unfortunately Sketchware, last version, has new problems with showing webviews. Until they fix that, my solution is unfeasible. Already built apps are still working.
