Hey guys, I'd like to know if the problem with the overheating still exists. Isn't it fixed already with the official software upgrade of the phone?

No SE solved the problem ( with the hardware not with the software) i have xperia mini & using it for hardcore gaming but the phone never got heated ( just a slight 2-4 degree sometimes while charging but it normal)
I used GB & ICS in this phone but no heating problem.

So if I buy the phone now and upgrade it to the last version (will not be rooted) will it be ok?
Y with new ics work nice.

What about the performance? They say it gets crappy, even though it's hard for me to believe when the phone have 1GHz processor.....

No i think the performance should be much better than before as the heated CPU can't give lag less experience!!
Now the phone is much better so the performance is excellent.Mini & Pro has a advantage as they both have low resolution so they can perform better than RAY,ARC
Believe me even playing ASPHALT-6 For hours in my mini, the phone is't giving me a single lag.
Also the ICS is also working Better than GB (Expect games) the application starting & loading is like INSTANT

Honestly, I found the ICS experience to be a breeze. The performance on Stock might be a touch laggy but almost un-noticeable.

problem with xperia mini cm9
hey friends,
i have xperia mini running cyanogen9 & the problem irritates me too.
i have been to stock rom & cm7 before too & the same overheating>auto touches of menu/back buttons remained.
i have tried Gscript method but didnt work (on cm7)/nor working now.
it keeps saying that fwloader not found & the phone restarts!
PLEASE help me get out of this as where i live is a hot place & the problem gets frequent.
for ur info, the phone is rooted & the bootloader is also unlocked.
thanks in advance!
I have two minis, first one had overheating problem with the back button and I used the script to fix it. Eventually this minis touchscreen died (possible related to the OH heat issue or maybe not).
The second mini i bought about 4 weeks ago didnt have this issue, so yes, sony fixed this at the factory
Hello,
Firstly I would like to say that I am coming from Google Nexus S, to Galaxy S3.
The first day I get my Galaxy S3, I immediately noticed that the touch screen is not as responsive as my Nexus S. I can feel the delay while moving icons, scrolling the pages etc. it just can't track my finger that fast.
I tried different roms, kernels, tried everything, and then I started to believe that it is a hardware related issue, UNTIL THE JB ROMS HAVE RELEASED..
I just flashed a JB rom (SuperNexus-B1) and touchscreen is now extremely responsive, like my Nexus S. (Btw, there isn't any problem on Nexus S both ICS and JB roms.)
I enabled the "Show touches" option from developer options, and woww.. It is tracking my finger really fast.
Now, why there is a touchscreen problem on Galaxy S3 with ICS, while not on other devices like Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus.
@Devs: please investigate this issue. Galaxy S3's touchscreen is capable of this, and it is a software related issue.

Suspect they will wait for Samsung JB release pointless fixing something this late in the life of ICS .
Did you update your original firmware ???

Did you try cm9 or just touchwiz ROMs? Maybe it's touchwiz related.

They are still releasing new roms, updates, and they fix bugs, release stuff for ICS, so it is not pointless to fix this one too.

I'm currently on the AOKP Milestone 6 rom. Same issue here. So it should not be Touchwiz related.
Maybe it is a cpu governor issue?

I don't think there is any screen related update between lg6 and lg8. You just can't notice that, I can feel the delay. Just move any icon on the screen, I believe you can feel it too.
My friend has a Galaxy S2 and I also noticed same lag on his phone too.

I have both too. As I said, you just can't notice it. It isn't about being fluid. I am talking about finger tracking.

Edit:
I just installed this multitouch test app to my both phones, and moved my finger on both at the same time, Nexus S' tracking is faster..

Have you asked the dev what he had changed in his Rom? Maybe he is aware of it and can provide a solution. I am also interested in this. Thanks for bringing up this issue.

Thankfully there's a possible fix for this. Probably the only thing that bugs me about the S3. My old S2 on GB felt much better when scrolling. Didn't update it to ICS because it didn't feel as good.

I changed the cpu governor to hotplug, touchscreen feels a lot better now.
I also changed the CFS Tweaks to "Thunderbolt script default" from STweaks, but I don't know if that affects.
how did you change the cpu governor to hotplug?

Firstly you must flash a kernel that supports hotplug governor, I used SiyahKernel.
Then you can use STweaks application to change.

Firstly I thought it is all about hardware limitations, but after flashing a JB rom then I realized that our hardware is capable of.
So no official figures on either ICS or JB? Obviously no official figures for JB as no official firmware yet

Are you not all simply noticing the difference (and improvements) resulting from "Project Butter" in Jelly Bean? It was designed to improve speed and responsiveness - the exact thing I think most of you are complaining about in ICS (compared to JB). So yes, I'd fully expect JB to feel more responsive on identical hardware...

No because there isn't any issue on other devices, like Nexus S with ICS.
I think the problem is in the Samsung's kernel for S3.
Hello. It is just me who mind no/slow response for fast touches on samsung galaxy SII i9100? Or it is just problem of this piece? Please see video on youtube: " Samsung S2 i9100 no response for fast touches "...(I cannot post links.)
I currently have RR v3.8 JB (Nova launcher, pegasusq governor, touch sensitivity=20, protective shield). Is a time threshold which can be modified somewhere in system?
updated:
I have tried 3 years old xperia X10 mini pro (u20i, 600MHz) which seems to react faster and for each (quick/slight/short time) touch.
btw: Can somebody move this thread to some better place?

I've not watched your video, but for touch sensitivity, lower is better. Set it to 5 or below for optimal response.
Setting touch sensitivity to 20 Wii only give you horrible experience.

Hello and thanks for reply. Minimum setting on my phone is 10 from 100. Even now it start to recognize my finger ~0.5 mm above screen which is not pleasant. (10 it is around 1.5 mm) Problem is time of contact.
I am using RR 3.8 as well, with newest Siyah, also I am using a screen protection but I have no problem... It may be laucher or kernel related. How did it work on stock rom? ...before flashing anything custom..

I do not remember any other behavior on previous ROMs (but I have not closely checked it).I have now RR 3.09 freshly installed and still the same problem. It seems to me that somewhere in system (screen driver?) is set artificial time threshold for unattended touches, or perhaps my screen is somehow defective.... LED buttons are more (not perfectly) sensitive for fast touch in my case. Can somebody please reply by video to show other behavior?
Well, I had other problem with touch [not everyone has it, but its releted to the OS - ICS, @GB it works fine] :

do you have this issue?
Just updated my tablet to lolipop yesterday and there're lags with nova launcher as well as facebook and gmail . did anyone else experience the same thing with me ? I would be grateful if someone can show me how to fix it. Thanks a lot
Maybe switching off Adaptive brightness will help
I also have the problem, even sometime very slow to silde the surface, sometime very smooth , i like android 4.4 more than 5.0 lollipop , because is stable
Mine is very smooth. I did clean install but apps restored using titanium backup
Sent from my SGP621 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes I have the same issue.
The version is currently 23.1.A.0.726, sometimes it's butter-smooth, but for other times it's laggy even if you just flip around your homescreen and settings.
Set brightness to ghe low level wil help, yes, it did, thank you,but why ? My tablet is no longer smart =_=
It always had this problem, even on kitkat. I partially solved it by installing lux auto brightness from play store, but it's still not entirely fixed. These Sony devs are really blind, 2 lollipop updates since then and haven't done anything about it.
I received my tab today and decided to update to lollipop. At first I noticed lots of lag and dropped frames. I then put it on charge and noticed that it was buttery smooth. Since taking it off charge it's still buttery smooth. Not sure what I did, but am a lot happier now. I just hope it lasts.
Update...
Have now realised what causes the dropped frames. Its when you have the brightness set too High!! The brightness seems to throttle the processor. Bit stupid if you ask me. Luckily I usually have my brightness set about 50 to 60%. I hope Sony fix this.

Have the same issue, took a while to find the cause.
I'm still on 23.1.A.0.690.
Does anybody already have 23.1.A.1.28 and does still have this issue?
Some guys in a German board say they do not see any difference in low and high brightness and I think they have the newer version...

Hmm, I didn't use my tablet much until recently but I did notice some stuttering while moving around if screen was really bright (on 23.1.A.0.690).
I do not notice the same stuttering on 23.1.A.1.28, actually it seems as fluid on maximum brightness as it does on minimum.

Mines definitely stutters on 23.1.A1.28 when brightness is over 50%. Still faster than my old Samsung galaxy tab s.
Just checked another device in a local "MediaMarkt" store.
It was running on 23.1.A.1.28 and also had this lag - it was really terrible... When I covered the bightness sensor, it started to fly.
This is ridiculous... I hope Sony will fix this in 5.1.
On a side note, mine has a rainbow effect when looking straight at the screen, which is disturbing when reading web pages. The demo device in the store had exactly the same effect - so I'll have to send it back.
Sigh, that was such a great device, but these two issues are a killer for me
Hi guys, I need some help,
I have been using Xperia Z2 for the past 8 months and during this time the phone performed well but recent times its starting to give me a lot of problems; The screen had a problem and got it fixed and now I have a huge problem. The phone overheats like crazy when used more than say 10mins straight. It could be a call, messenger, video or camera, I know it has overheating issues with 4K but i never use the 4K feature to record movies. I'm on the latest firmware and lollipop update came via OTA, I can't tell if this is the exact reason but the phone gets so hot that it almost burns my skin !
I have reset the phone and wiped and re-installed everything and this had no effect. I have no warranty as I have paid fully for the phone and left the contract. I don't do gaming or anything processor intensive and yet the phone heats up really bad.
Any solutions apart from taking it to fix somewhere cause I live in Norway and I can buy a new phone for the price of someone looking at the problem cause its that expensive here
What if I have to install a clean stock rom? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Unlock bootloader, flash custom kernel with the alternative to chooice an aggressive hotplug driver / battery friendly CPU governor and flash a custom ROM.
Solved!
Try downloading watchdog lite and see what is using most cpu.If you find nothing try flashing latest ftf using flashtool, root and debloat.4g/lte could also heat up the phone very fast.

Or just use the included kernel. Your choice of preference, u know!

Camera quality is way better in AOSP, just backup ur drm keys first, UL the BL, and thab try any AOSP or CM based rom.
Did you consider downgrading to kitkat?
I am using kitkat and the phone doesnt really overheat, without any underclocks or anything, unless I play something that is really demanding, such as asphalt 8

By saying the screen got fixed, does that mean the phone's internals were opened? If that is the case than we might have to look for a pysical reason more than a software one.
Besides, in many countries those devices have 1 year warranty, of which is decided and forced by goverments. Since it is your 8th month, you may still have warranty and take your phone to a service (they may blame summer thoguh).
