Have u tried with the phone in fastboot, or in recovery? You could probably also pull what u need using windows adb then just copy it to a folder u can access from ur vm

Yes i have tried from fastbootusb and recovery and the problem shows up. I would use Windows adb but the guide was specifically for Linux/Unix

Did you make sure you selected the device to share in virtual box. See Screen Shot, I don't have adb on my virtual box right not to test, I will install it shortly and let me know if I find any other tricks.
Do you have the windows drivers loaded?

Might want to try the steps listed here: https://nookdeveloper.zendesk.com/entries/22167968-Ubuntu-Linux-Getting-ADB-working
I have the phone drivers installed for windows 7.
I Have the vbox addons installed
Then I just checked the phone under usb devices
As far as software, I installed Java and the Android sdk using the guide above (Steps 1-7).
Once I had the SDk installed I was able to:
cd ~/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools
./adb devices
And it showed the phone connected.
Can you get adb to work manually? Maybe the script needs to be tweaked to update the path to adb.
---------- Post added at 11:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 PM ----------
Also just thought
Do you have HTC sync installed? If so try uninstalling it.
Do you have any autoplay options set when you plug in your phone? I get two auto play windows when I plug mine in. I just close them.

[HELP] Getting PC To Recognize My adb Device!!

I've tried everything. IT WILL NOT recognize my phone.
When trying to install the drivers it says the Authenticode does not have permission. I got the damn drivers directly from Android.com but it still doesn't think its authentic. Because of this, o cannot get the computer to recognize it as an adb device to root the phone.
I'm going nuts now. 2 days with literally 8 to 10 hours of trying with no success.
Can someone please please PLEASE help me?
I was having the same issue. Install PDAnet. Works like a charm. The program installs the drivers for you. You can uninstall the program after you get the drivers working if you'd like.

Nothing appears to work.

and what makes no sense is when trying to manually install new hardware, it SHOWS there are authenticodes for those drivers:
theres a way of turning off driver signature checks, try that

Are you on Vista or a Windows server version?
I had the same issue, turned out it was a hardware bug.
I sent it to the repair center at HTC in United Kingdom and i had it returned 5-6 days after, working and with locked bootloader

Vista.
I've tried a few of those suggestions and non of worked. Most involved the bcedit trick but its disabled or doesn't exist in the newer security updates.
Vista 32 bits or Vista 64bits ?
in hardware management console what do you see ? yellow question mark ?
Sometimes you need to go in it and find your device to check the HID number and copy it manually in the driver *..inf files to be detect by your OS.
I remembered doing this for my G1 long time ago (years).
If you can, get your hands on another n1 or android device to see if its a hardware problem with the phone, which i doubt. Also try a diff OS.

Hope you solve your problem !
In case you have Windows 7 you can try the following.
http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/...gning-in-windows-7-using-group-policy-editor/
Are you installing the usb drivers using the utility in ADB? If not, delete the drivers in hardware manager, and try installing them with the utility.
I had no problems doing this on Vista, but I prefer to use ADB on Linux.

hey .
maybe i´ve got something for you.
download my file here
install the binaries and then reboot (i said you don't have to, but i think in your case it would be better)
EDIT: is the debug function enabled in your device?
OK, after a few hours and still no success with Vista, I went to storage and pulled out my personal PC I built that hasn't run in a few years thanks to corrupt hard drives.
I spent 4 hours repairing and fixing the hard drives and SUCCESS, I got it to detect it on my Windows XP PC.
NOW! Still not working! In the command prompt, it shows adb devices as one connected but still when I do an adb push nothing happens. Just recycles the adb menu....
Any suggestions?
Your first mistake is using a PC that you know is not working properly. Try a known working pc.

Try using a Linux distribution. Saves a lot of time and headache.
or just reinstall your windows. win7 would be better than vista.

Check my signature. Download the tool kit and choose any of the available devices, back up your data (Full backup), then when you want to restore your stuff, select Full Restore. It's as simple as that.
Galaxy S III is currently not fully available, but any of the device forms will do
Lg
Edit:
Oh, and you're doing it completely wrong. If you downloaded the SDK for Windows, all you need is the Windows shell (CMD, PowerShell).
And you only need to type in:
Code:
adb start-server
adb backup <-f<File location>.ab> <-apk><-system><-all><-shared>
and to restore:
Code:
adb start-server
adb restore <path-to-file>.ab

I wasn't going hard on you
Those were easy steps, you don't have to be an expert. I'm not one, either. I don't even know how to code in Java ^^
Like I said, just download my tool kit, hit "Thanks" on the OP and if you like the tool kit, buy the donate version
The Galaxy S III form should be finished in the next few updates, but the next update (Coming sometime this week) shall have some even more impressive features which you can use

Follow this to backup your phone (make sure u have installed drivers on comp) :
1. enable USB debugging Settings > Developer, enable developer options, then enable USB debugging
2. open the sdk and plug your device in
3.navigate to where adb is. you’ll find the adb.exe file in the platform-tools folder. With the default installation settings, the location is: C:\Users\"NAME"\AppData\Local\Android\Android-sdk\platform-tools.
(replace name with your account name)
4. In that folder hold shift and right click and select Open command window here.
5. type
Code:
adb devices
to test if your device can comunicate with adb
You should see a device in the list – if you see no devices, adb can’t communicate with your device because its driver isn’t installed properly.
6. type
Code:
adb backup -apk -shared -all -f C:\Users\NAME\backup.ab
(again replace the word name)
After running this command, you’ll have to agree to the backup on your device. You can also encrypt the backup with a password here, if you like.

To restore your backup in the future, run the following command:
Code:
adb restore C:\Users\NAME\backup.ab
(again replace the word name with your backups name)
Hit the thanks button if i helped

Thread only, please. That way other users have a chance to discuss the same problem and I really can treat it as a problem.
And you might want to have a look at this: http://sourceforge.net/p/universalat/discussion/general/thread/2e2a5c18/?limit=50#75bc <- That tells you how to write a bug report and that way I can really have a look at it and change stuff in necessary.

[Q] Why cant I find my device?

It connects fine with HTC sync, but I can't find my phone in "my computer". What am I doing wrong? I'm running Vista 32bit, btw.
now sync can't even find my phone. I tried all the usb ports on my tower, it's a fresh install of Vista that is up to date, tried reinstalling the sync program, installed some mtp drivers I found on the Microsoft site. USB debugging on and off, nothing works! and it's the stock Rom, just with some mods. ATT phone btw. any suggestions? mtp stinks btw...... I wanna flash some roms darn it!
May I suggest something to you? Uninstall all your current drivers and also remove HTC Sync, then try to follow this step-to-step guide : HERE or a more complete one HERE. If you need help or precision I will be glad to assist you.
Well i fallowed your walk through and still no luck. Im sure its not the chord i tried 3 different ones, including the the one that came wit the phone. :crying: Im completely at a loss....

you might have to connect directly from usb like the ports in the back of the pc rather then the ones in the front. also try using a different computer and see if it works or not.
well I just about given up. the issue isn't solely with my computer, as it connects just fine with every other usb device in my house, iphone, gs3, digital camera, etc. so up its an issue primarily with my phone or both my pc and phone. I haven't had a chance to try my phone on another computer yet, can't get mtp working on ubuntu. or maybe it does work, and my phones just messed up. maybe something I did, I need to stop messing with system files . BUT I had an epiphany, ADB over WiFi, I found a bunch of apps, they all mention running apps and debugging, but can they be used as a replacement for adb via usb? can I use adb Wi-Fi to push a kernel and or recovery?
Well I made some headway! I FINALLY got my computer to at least recognize my phone. I did this control panel>add hardware and manually installing the drivers that way. SO now in device manager Android phone (sdk drivers) and HTC MTP device, finally show up. I get a code 10 on both those deives, BUT when I scan for hardware the drivers from the phone begin to install, how ever they fail to install. MY brain is beat from this, can some help give me the next little push to finally ending this debacle!?
May I ask if you have administrator privileges on your computer? On Vista this a prerogative, you MUST be an administrator otherwise the installation will fail.
Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Control Panel window opens click on the Uninstall a program (If you are using the Classic View of the Control Panel, then you would double-click on the Programs and Features icon instead.) -> The screen contains a list of the programs installed on your computer, locate everything starting with HTC and uninstall all of them.
Make sure your phone is not plugged in. Reboot your computer.
Download this file containing the Vista 32bit drivers. Put this file on your Desktop.
Plug your phone. Use Device Manager to install the driver.
Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
In the Tasks pane, click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
In Device Manager, locate the Android USB or MTP Device for which we want to install the driver.
Right-click the device, and then click Update Driver Software.
Click Browse my computer for driver software, click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and then click Have Disk.
In the Install From Disk dialog box, click Browse, locate in the file you just downloaded an androidusb.inf and then click Open.
Follow the steps in the Update Driver Software Device Name dialog box to update the driver.
Reboot your computer.
Lets see the results.
NoobDude i may be beating a dead horse here but Ubuntu 13.04(even in the beta which i use as a daily os) has mtp out of the box maybe try that and install sdk, java , adb fastboot.
if lucky thirteens suggestion doesn't work, I'll try that next. cheers gents!
Lucky thirteens post didn't work at all, when i tried to update the drives I would get an error. Either that the driver wasn't compatible or the the current driver was up to date. I haven't tried updating to Ubuntu 13.4 yet. BUT, I kinda made some headway again. After several reboots and trying different things I get this, what you see in the first picture. SUCCESS!, Oh wai....(refer to second picture)..... When i plug my phone in via a USB (on the back of the computer), i get NOTHING. Sooo. One X+ FOR SALE! :crying:

There is a universal driver from Koushik Dutta (dev of CWM). This worked on my Win8 x64 PC (nothing else would).
At least it shows my device when I type adb devices.
See if that works.
Google for it. I am not sure if I am allowed to attach the file here - hence not attaching. I also have forgotton / not saved the link. It was in his google+ post...
See if that helps
Okk the link was first when I googled .

when i go in and look at the drivers there is a yellow ! and it says drivers not installed but i have installed them 2 times now
Till someone can come up with an answer, try booting a live ubuntu install, or run ubuntu from a USB stick. Just spent an hour messing about with my windows 8.1 box, got nowhere. (it sees my phones fine). With ubuntu, I installed android studio and was up and running in 15 min.

i have windows 7 but i think you can do the same on 8 Just right click on my computer and then manager then device manager and find your device listed then click on it and update the devices. that should work you can manually install the devices there to just find a google adb driver and install it.

I've also on usb debugging mode and ome unlock, and use the adb driver and write the proper command but it shows waiting for device.
Any one have any ideas..
Plz help me..
do you really have adb and fastboot drivers installed?
connect phone to pc via cable.
in adb console write- adb devices
if you have the correct adb drivers you should see your device id as connected
write adb reboot bootloader
it will boot to fastboot, write fastboot devices
if it shows your phone id everything should be fine, unlock your OEM via command
Heyyo, for me using the developer options in EUI ROM and unlocking bootloader in there worked. Please try that and see if it helps
I tried in a few ways and did not unlock the bootloader even though everything was going well. Finally, the phone returned to its previous state. previously, I had Lenko zuk with 2 - without any problem, I unlocked it using Tool all in one.

Either your phone is not in bootloader mode or you have no drivers installed. Since I never use Windows, I can't help though.
Connect your phone to the PC. Then type in a console "adb devices" if it shows your device just type "adb reboot bootloader" . When the phone restarts type "fastboot oem unlock" (I think this was the command) and you're done. If you see "offline" or nothing after "adb devices" check the driver's if they're installed. If so check the cable and don't use any usb external hubs.
It did not do anything. Everything is fine for the reboot and does not see the device after restarting.

Can you provide a little bit more info?
What error are you getting and what exactly are you doing?
in the command window I entered the adb reboot bootloader. answer, no device found, no emulator.

Are you sure that you have enabled adb on your phone. If yes then there's a problem with the cable.
I went through the entire TWRP installation procedure successfully (?), But the phone is just like before the app came in; OFFICIAL TWRP APP. What's next ? can anyone help?

You're done. Install some custom ROMs if you want to and do whatever you want.
I installed TWRP using TOOL ALL IN ONE.
