[Q] USB Not Connected. No Tethering :( - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there
I'm using Rootbox 4.1 / Most Recent Dorimanx and I can't seem to find a solution to my tethering problem.
I have tried rootbox stock kernel, flashing siyah kernel, upgrading to rootbox 4.2, using open garden, most of the tether apps out there and bluetooth tethering.
Jtether is the only thing that works for making a wifi network but I need USB tethering specifically for my car system to access a network (Asteroid Mini)...I could also use bluetooth internet but that seems even less likely to have a solid fix.
The problem is my USB tether option is greyed out and it says "'USB not connected" even though I have connected it (on many different devices).
I have poured over every help thread I can find. I have also called my carrier to ensure my tethering options are working correctly.
So far, I have had absolutely 0% success at creating a network that my car system can access.
Any idea how I can get usb tethering back?

Try 8.32 or 9.32 dori kernel. Latest is not really tested working.

Still no luck still no usb tether

Have you reset the WiFi settings? Region code has helped others. Go to WiFi and press menu then go to advanced and have a look there.

dont get the latest dori kernel, its bugged and not enough tested, i got the dori 8.34 and it works fine

Rootbox doesn't have region code settings or a wifi settings reset button under advanced (or at least mine doesn't)
Any other ideas?

Goto pacman rom 4.3 then when bajee sorts it out go bk to rootbox.

What kind of security is your wifi modem is having? is it wps smthng lk that? Did you tried with different wifi hotspots?
it doesnt have any security, i disable it
The thing is that it doesn even recognize that there is a wifi signal, it just turn off automatically before without detecting any wifi signal, i tried at work and the same thing happened
(sorry if i misspelled a lot of words jejeje)
try to flash another ROM and see if it works...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA premium app
i restored the backup i made with cwm and everything works fine now (touch x-power rom), and if i reinstall check rom the wifi goes out again, it seems it deletes something that leaves me with no wifi mac adress (i searched in about the phone, turning on and of wifi and every time it said not available)
Bizarre...
im getting the same thing, did anyone find a solution?
had this same exact issue.. it is a hardware problem.. so changing rom, kernel or fw wont help you at all... only solution is going to samsung service center.. my problem was solved in 3 days..so many s2 users have this problem..
take a look at these threads...

There are a lot of problems with KK5 and wifi. If you update Busybox it borks it completely. I can't connect to my 5Ghz home wifi but the 2.4 Ghz works fine. I also can't connect to some wifi that uses WEP. All works fine with previous builds. I have seen threads that suggest replacing the wpa_suplicant file from Android 2.3.5 fixes the problem.

My problem was unable to turn on wifi, wifi stuck at the stage of turning on.... and forever like that cant off and on.
Most probably is hardware problem coz i have tried many ways to solve including flash back to stock rom, change modem, change kernel and etc.
good luck for you, hope you are not the same problem with me.

Wifi is kernel-related.
So, try to flash another kernel to test.
Or if you don't want to flash another kernel, check in menu Settings > wifi > (menu button) Advanced > Use static ip.
Try to enabled and connect.
Then disable and try to connect.
If that does not help, try to wipe cache (and Dalvik cache) in recovery mode.
Press Volume UP + Home + Power buttons as long as the recovery menu appears, then select wipe cache and reboot the phone.
P.S.: Check the configuration of your wifi router / WLAN access point, that is allows your phone to connect.
ok so i did everything again just to be sure and... my mistake! the problem starts not after the rom flashing but after cf root! have i done something wrong maybe?
I would say look for a custom rom that is already pre-rooted so then it should have all bugs to do with wifi removed.
I used to have a problem with the wifi myself which caused problems when turning it into a wireless hot spot and then wouldn't turn back off again.
But now im on the Custom Rom I am having no problems with wifi at all.
Hope this helps.
Galaxy S2 Running Paranoid v1.2a 4.0.4
Actually, I would say try a different kernel. CF-root is a kernel. Wifi drivers are in the kernel. Ergo... ?
Wifi is kernel related issue
try changing your kernel
you mite wanna chk dis

Im having the same problem here, any luck so far?
may have something to do with the root. my phone had this issues once. just flash your phone with the correct rom and do NOT root it again as it may have something to do with the root itself. or just something got messed up during the rooting process

[Q] Native USB, Wifi and BT tethering not working!

Hey guys,
I have leaked JB 4.1 on my SGS2, and I flashed Dorimanx kernel over it.
Everything is pretty much ok except the fact that usb tethering, wifi portable hotspot and bluetooth tethering are not working!
Wifi portable hotspot turns on and two seconds after it turns off automatically. It's same with the USB tethering. Bluetooth tethering stays on but it shows bluetooth error.
I tried with tethering apps from the market - nothing reallly works, evene the apps that use root priviliges.
Please, help!

And all this started happening when you flashed dorimanx................................?
To be honest, I haven't tried tethering while I had leaked stock JB.
Maybe I should flash over some other kernel and see if the tethering is working?
err....yeap, you should
could also re flah the whole thing.

I experienced this issue (No WIFI and Bluetooth) when using Jeboo on Biftor's rom. I flashed Siyah and currently I have it working with BT and USB but Wifi doesn't work.
Try a different kernel and see if you get better results!
I am experiencing the same problem.
What I have done:
Rooted SGS2 GTI9100 using Method 1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
Backed up SMS & Call History
Installed Space & Time 2.2 ROM
When asked to Select Modem & Kernel - I selected the top Dorimanx one from options (I didn't know which to select)
Restored SMS & Call history
Had to re-root by running cwm-touch-6.0.x.x-i9100.zip again to enable Titanium Backup, SuperSU, etc.
WiFi works, mobile data works but I cannot get tethering to work. It disables after about 2 seconds as shomey describes.
Can anyone see what may be wrong? Could it be to do with the modem & kernel selection? How do I check which modem & kernel I need?
Hope you can help. Thank you.

Foxhound 1.8, Siyah Kernel: Wifi Problems

I flashed the ROM yesterday and chose the Siyah kernel while installing.
I read up a lot and many people recommend Siyah. Everything works fine, except the wifi will sometimes just not be working. If I toggle it, it tries to connect and asks for password. As soon as I enter the password, it connects and immediately disconnects and asks for password again. The password box has (unchanged) written in it and the dialogue box says I entered the wrong password. I have tried it over and over, so it is definitely not a mistake in the password.
(Wifi works fine on my laptop)
I read up today morning and someone said that wifi issues can be kernel related. My priority in kernels are basically battery life, smooth performance and great audio (if its a function of the kernel) and everything else that works should work normally. So, if the solution is flashing a different kernel, could someone recommend one?

Could you suggest which stweaks I should try?
It wouldn't connect to the two connections I had access to. If the issue stays, I'll move to Perseus.

Read a little more and it seems the problem is with android 4.1.2 to begin with. Of course I could be wrong, I'm reading from too many random sources.

[Q] CM11 SS-M7 + XXMS4 Modem [issues]

On CM11 snapshot M7, wife was getting crappy signal...
So I flashed XXMS4 - it is mostly working, apart from the Wifi settings menu...
If wifi is turned on - from within settings menu the following pops up 'Unfortunately, Settings has stopped'.
Weird thing is wifi still connects to home network... but, if wifi settings menu cannot launch - how will better half connect to new networks!?
Any one point to a newer modem than XXMS4?
Perhaps a link to CM11 modem (can I restore modem through recovery via advanced?? I have a full nandroid, minus gapps etc.
T.I.A
Just thought perhaps it's CM11 SSM7 bug...
as I only connected to wifi via setup after flashing rom... never went through wifi settings menu...
might explain why the 3 alternate modems I've tried keep returning with same issue ^^
Might backup current, then restore nandroid -if same issue present - will update to M9 :fingers-crossed:
