Hey all,
I'm headed to Korea this week and I was going to reflash my ROM to allow for GSM data. So I'm looking at the Venasaur (Charmander if it gets released in time) or MIUI. I'd still like to use it on CDMA until I leave, but easily switch it to GSM while in Korea for data usage.
What's the easiest/best of the two to use?
I'm currently on Scott's ICS Dev Edition as I prefer the stock ICS feel. I could put up with a theme for a couple weeks while I'm there though.
Otherwise, I'm using my old Captivate while I'm there as I know that'll work, but the GPS is practically unusable.
Thanks!
Super
Pretty sure you can run GSM on your current rom. Settings>Tweaks>Misc>Phone Info. The antennae selection is on that screen.
You can get gsm on any rom, its sending sms and a couple of other issues that only miui or any sense 4 rom work it out using the gsm fix patch.
I'd say use miui, both cdma and gsm is working out of the box with cdma sms sendung being the only issue.

Thanks.
Data's the big concern. I don't plan on using voice too much, if at all on this trip. I mainly want data for Internet, GPS and translation.
Have people been able to use data without trouble on other ROMs besides those two?

Yeah data is a go but you're probably have to manually set up your APN.

That part I usually expect while I'm abroad. Vodafone in Prague had me up in running with the APN info in under 5 minutes when I was there last.

I would just use vennasour. We know it works and you never know in an emergency what type of service you might need whether it be voice, texts, or data.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but I was wondering if Korea uses the same kind of cellular networks as China? I might be going to China. Would be great to keep the rezound and swap sim cards.

That RUU came from the last official update, so it SHOULD work fine. But when you usewords like "perfectly" then all bets are off..
Nils BCS ROM based on 3.6 is supposed to be global. There are probably others tho.

Currently testing mine using a StraightTalk AT&T compatible sim. Personally I had to install stock RUU Build 4.03.605.2 to get data working. So far voice, sms, and data on Edge is working. MMS doesn't seem to be working. Going to try Nils' Business ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 (ICS Global).
Are you s-off? I've been doin some research and I'm pretty confidant that an aosp rom will work. If not, I've downloaded a pure GSM rom by suilmagic called rezound miaster that I'm going to try. Suilmagic said that it should work on any 3rd party GSM network. I'm just waiting to get my sin to try it out.

Apologies in advance. I've never done this before.
I was just wondering if it would be possible to get a GSM Sense 5 ROM based off of the T-Mobile HTC One. We have them for the Sprint version.
The reason I ask is because of WiFi calling.
If not, no big dea.

I have flashed the developer edition ruu to skip the T-Mobile tethering restrictions. Is there a way I can add wifi calling and still receive OTA updates or can wifi calling be added? I would use the T-Mobile rom if there was an easy way to get tethering working.

There is no way to add it to 4.2.2 roms until a tmobile 4.2.2 rom is released. The only reason the international 4.1.2 roms had it was because they were able to extract the necessary parts of the rom and apply it to theirs, but those don't work on 4.2.2.

It should be under settings, select more under wireless and networks, and it's at the very bottom.
The developer edition does not have 4.2.2 I have 4.1.2. Is there a flashable zip to add it to the developer edition or does it only work with the international rom? Search isn't working for this because the keywords are too short and common.

You cannot just "install an .apk or .zip" it just doesn't work on AOSP.
So many features of this phone rely on Sense I can't understand why anyone buys the Play edition. I love AOSP as much as anyone, but it seriously hampers the experience of the One.
Yes, ROMZ and such, but pure stock is good by me.

What are you talking about? The developer edition is sense 5 and runs the same software minus the WiFi calling. I have the tmobile one but used the developer edition ruu. It's the same software. The developer edition should receive updates faster and tethering works.

Ok. That's something I know and didn't ask about. I thought you were referring to the developer edition. Great thing about this phone is that it can be converted to any of the models. The s4 is unable to do this.

I haven't seen a flashable zip so Idk about it, but I like to use trickdroid 5.4, it is an international rom that has the option to flash tmobile WiFi calling. Sucks though because I don't think it's available through their website anymore. I have the zip if you're interested. I'm not sure that was the latest version before they switched to 4.2.2 though.

There is no T-Mobile wifi calling options for any Rom 4.2 and above, due to T-Mobile not releasing an official 4.2 update. I hope 4.3 come sooner rather than later, then it can be ported to all custom roms.

I just purchased my S5 yesterday (April 17th), but I regret selling my M8. I thought the S5 would have more dev support and more ROM's than M8, but I guess I was wrong. On the T-Mobile M8 Android Dev section there is a GPE ROM and a RUU to covert the M8 to stock android.
I was expecting like 5-10 ROMs on the S5 already (as was with the Note 3), but I guess I'm wrong? Or can I flash ROM's meant for the non T-Mobile S5?
That's my main question.
Where are the ROM's?
wow really?
Impatient much?
You do realize that this phone came out less then two weeks ago.
And I am sure that not that many people have jumped to this since there were so many people that develop that are already on the s4 and the s5 is not that much of a upgrade for them to switch.
Not to mention that the AT&T and Verizon cariants are not rootable yet and more developers are typically on those networks to begin with.
Give it a little more time for the others to get root and developers to move over and get used to the different setup and roms will come.

Well just saying the M8 has more ROM's and even stock android flashability (made that up )
Seriously though, there is a GPE ROM for M8 that allows you to flash back to stock still, and the RUU Google Play Edition, which essentially converts the M8 on T-Mobile (and other carriers) to a GPE version of the M8 permanately.

I haven't tried it, but I would assume it works fine as long as you keep the T-Mobile firmware. There is some discussion in the general thread about people running the international ROMs as well as in the international forums, look around. I think we'll start seeing custom ROMs built from the T-Mobile base sometime next week at the latest, I'm content with root for now.

I'm thinking of upgrading as well, but coming from carrier specific devices (the Samsung Infuse, ATT only, and the Nexus 4 on Simple Mobile), there hasn't been different variants. So the T-Mobile devices is compatible with ROMs built for the international variant? Would the kernels for it be compatible as well? The only thing that would be lost would be the carrier specific additions such as built-in VOIP? No differences in partition layout?

APN shows T-Mobile, so I believe its just a kernel/radio issue. It's up to you if flashing a custom ROM is worth no LTE.

You need to verify the T-Mobile APN. Maybe the settings are not for T-Mobile LTE. I had the same issues after my flash but I am on AT&T. Just make sure the APN settings match that of T-Mobile LTE. Carriers have more then one APN.
