Something that has been annoying me since the day I bought the tablet (LTE SPG 521)
When the tablet has been idle for a while, the WiFi turns itself off.
So whenever I pick it up without thinking, open chrome to start web browsing, I am connected to internet, and things are fine until I realise that I have been using 3G instead of WiFi.
Most of the time I need to go into shortcut quick access from pulling down top right corner and turn WiFi on.
Sometimes I need to go into WiFi settings and turn it on, even though the quick access shortcut says WiFi is on.
I do have stamina mode on, but have disabled every other power saving feature related to WiFi. In fact it is the same setting on my Z Ultra and Z1 Compact, but needless to say, I do not see this behaviour on my other sony devices.
But somehow on the tablet, WiFi does not auto connect, even in presence of a WiFi router that is set for auto connect.
Even If I was using the particular access point for WiFi connection, lets say I play games for about 30 minutes... the connection is lost and I need to go into WiFi settings to turn it on again (with the small slide to the right toggle switch within WiFi settings to turn on WiFi itself).
Anyone else experiencing this?
I would rather avoid it, since over usage on 3G for me means speed throttling later in the month...
P.S. Yes, I am on latest firmware 17.1.A.2.69
On Advanced WiFi, Keep wifi on during sleep is set to ALWAYS., avoid poor connection is turned OFF, and Wifi optimization is also OFF
Factory reset it? That's probably the first thing they tell you to do if you approach the technicians, if the problem still persist then demand for an exchange if not refund it.
I'd just bought mine today and unfortunately the bottom right corner the glass sticks out and it is pushable. I'm going to exchange it tmr.

Thanks for the idea, but no luck.
In any case each time I upgraded firmware, it should have sorted itself out, but problem still remains...
"Factory reset" is always the first "solution" you get by "technicians". Usually translates to: "Keeps the customer occupied for hours, silencing him."
Regarding the issue: I cannot confirm that, NO WLAN issues with my LTE Z2, it's just "always on", never losing the connection.

Do you have stamina mode ON?
With my other Xperias, the second I turn my screen on, the wifi is off/sleeping, but it launches and connects almost instantaneously. I guess the problem in my tablet is that it is not doing so, requiring me to do it manually...
I thought the FW for the tablet and the phone Z2 was the same? Maybe I should go and look in the forums over there...
I don't have the problem, either.
UPDATE
Problem Solved.
The cause was ad blocker app that I had installed, and it seems to me that whenever I was using certain apps that needed ad-blocking, all this thing would do is turn wifi off (but not 3g/LTE)
How Dumb is that?
Anyways, Wifi now always on even with stamina mode on.
Thanks for all who listened and threw suggestions!
Thanks

Hello all...

Searching by the forum i found out that turning on background queue data and STAMINA under power management causes this...but i have them turned OFF...in fact...i have all power options turned off !
am i missing something ?

When you switch Stamina Mode on it turns everything off but calls and texts. You can add more apps if you wanna get notifications. Simply go to the Power management - stamina mode and click on apps + active on standby and add the apps you wanna get notifications

It could be your router, is it just this phone that has the problem or do other phones have it too? Just on wife or also mobile network? One of my routers causes this problem on everyones phone in the house

Hi I'm also using whatsapp all the time with stamina mode on but never encountered this problem. It is likely possible that whatsapp is being killed or acces to GCM is being blocked or regulated somehow?

my hotmail email push notification is also delayed for 20 mins when screen is off. instantly if screen on. turn off everything I can think like OP. anyone has same issue?

ok try to activate the stamina mode (extended standby specifically) and add whatsapp to the white list and see if it is fixed or not ?
I have problem in my sony z2 for whats up whenever im using WiFi whats up work.
but when trying im to use whats up on mobile data it do not work .
I have this problem also on MM
I bought the device a couple of days ago and i love it. But i experience some sort of glitch with stamina mode. No matter what, some notifications still come through (Foursquare, facebook etc) and i have no apps whitelisted except tasker!
Does anyone else has that issue ? i'm on stock .402 rooted (locked BL)
The whitelist is for alowing apps to keep the phone active, not anything else
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I know that, but i think you misread what i wrote (well my English sucks anyway )
What i wanted to say is that i don't have any whitelisted apps (except for tasker which i need it active), but i still get notifications from facebook, foursquare etc. From my understanding of how Stamina mode works, The device shouldn't allow any notifications from popping up.
Any ideas?

It doesnt block notifacations
You can stop those from the personalization menu

Obviously it doesn't block notifications, but if stamina mode is on it shouldn't allow apps to use the data connection while the screen is off (because it turns the data connections off) hence Facebook/messenger etc notifications shouldn't come through until you turn the screen back on unless the app is white listed. I think the Op is on to something because I noticed the same issue with Fb messenger the other day, didn't notice it before because I almost never use stamina mode but I'm fairly sure this is either a new 'feature' or bug because stamina mode doesn't behave this way on my Z ultra

Thank you! I'm glad i'm not the only one experiencing this.
The thing is - if you have any app on whitelist, which wake device from stamina mod, it enable internet connection as well and your apps are checking for updates.
I really doubt there's any chance to avoid that...
So, when Tasker wake up device all other apps are behaving just like you unlocked the screen and Internet connection is established.

Oh i didn't think of that. That would explain a lot. From what i gathered about Stamina mode, i always thought that it would enable internet connection only for the whitelisted apps I'll try with no apps in the whitelist, to see if it works.

Yep, that's fair - but I don't actually have any apps whitelisted, maybe they'll fix it with the next update, it's not such an issue for me because as I said I never really use stamina mode because the battery life is good enough without it - it is a bit annoying because I used to use stamina mode when I wanted to mute all Web based notifications

It should work like that, they should build firewall for that to block all other app but, apparently, they didn't.
For me that's OK, if one app wakes up my device to refresh it, why not to update all apps and notifications...
But it could be annoying if you don't want that...

Well, as soon as i removed all whitelisted apps, stamina mode starting working *almost* at it should. I said almost because it doesn't make sense to have a whitelist option if it effectively destroys the purpose of having a "Stamina" mode.
Anyway, i have faith in sony fixing it.
Hmm interesting, maybe I need to do a factory reset on mine then
I think the stamina mode is a bit bugged because I notice my apps stop working properly even thou they in the list. For instance, my outlook (emails stop syncing), wechat (can't send or receive anything), or whatapp (delayed messages sometimes). Even if you wake the phone up, the apps is already stopped working so I have to force stop and to start the app again for it work. I think this also explains why the location based WiFi seems not working at times for me too. I turned off stamina mode and the issue has went away.
The interesting thing is that, I have stamina mode turned on family members Xperia T2 Ultra, Z Compact and Z Ultra, it works works fine for them as they have WeChat as well.
If Stamina mode don't work properly, clearing data of "Eco Mode Controler" in settings>all apps can help.

Just curious, why would someone not use the Stamina Mode? I mean, what makes you not use it? I didn't see any negative effects it puts on phone, AT ALL. Other than that "extended usage" option, which slows the phone a bit.

But now it doesn't work. I did re flash and factroy reset but stamina mode still error. I went to Sony Service Centre, they upgrade my os but still error. They said maybe hardware problem. Is that true hardware problem? or software problem? Because i have 2 friends with sony xperia z2 but their stamina mode run well. any idea? sorry if my english bad. Thanks before

Exactly for those reasons listed above, I have fb, WhatsApp, Skype and many more notifications coming through that require the data connection and I want to receive the messages immediately rather than whenever I decide turn my phone screen on. If I used stamina mode I'd then have to whitelist all these apps, there's no point - I may as well just keep stamina mode off. I don't get much gain out of using it anyway because I use my phone a lot during the day where having stamina mode might give me an half a day of use - pointless because the phone still won't last through day 2 so I'd still have to charge it every night. So given that I have to charge it every night with or without stamina mode, its far more convenient to keep stamina mode off so I don't have to worry about missing notifications
this solution worked for my friend try it
open wifi settings>advanced>keep wifi on during sleep make it never ...make sure that there is no apps in "apps active in standby mode and make the activation always on ..try it and goodluck ..
I'm trying to figure out if my Edge is bad. When I turn the screen off, and come back to the phone a few minutes later, I'll get a notification stating it has connnected to my router. I've checked the settings and it states the wifi is set to be always on. I attempted a factory reset and still no luck. Sometimes it'll take a few moments before it even connects to the wifi again upon turning the screen on.
Do I have a bad phone?

I would check under the advanced settings for wifi, there's an option for what to do with wifi during sleep. That may be your problem.

I have the same thing happening. I noticed when I was backing pics on one drive
. It would always say that back up has stopped because there was no WiFi After turning the screen on again.
I just got my Edge yesterday, and I am having the same problem with wifi AND also that it stops seeing any wifi and I have to toggle it off and back on manually THEN it will instantly connect to my known network.
Dear @vaxick,
Dial *#0011# and click on more>>WiFi>>"WIFI Power save mode" try to disable this option and see what happens.
*it might drain your battery faster.

Thank you for this suggestion, unfortunately it had no effect as I have observed the same wireless disconnect behavior now with both the WiFi power save both on and off. Once the wireless disconnects it no longer see ANY wireless networks no matter where I go until I toggle the wireless off then back on again. Then it will see all wireless network present around me and instantly connect if there are any of my saved networks present. At this point I believe it is either a hardware or worse a software problem with my phone, but I am really at a loss to the exact nature of this issue.
Mine also has this issue when connected to 5GHZ SSID. Connecting to my 2.4GHZ SSID solves this problem completely for me

I hope that this is a hardware issue with my phone, as your "solution" is totally unacceptable for me, especially since my work place has bandsteering AP's that use the same SSID's for both 2.4 and 5GHz.

Yeah, i have to turn WIFI off whilst at work for the same reason. Certainly hoping it's just a software bug and will be fixed quickly as it is by no means an ideal workaround
I also see this kind of problem since last 1 week, here is how i noticed. i user viber messaging app and it shows status online if you are connected. Lot of my friends started complaining that my status is not continuously online and fluctuating so i started doing tests.
Moment my display turns off i started counter and in 10 minutes my status changes as last seen and whenever i open viber app again i am online.
second test: i tried doing the same with whatsapp and connected at web.whatsapp.com and same thing happens within 10 mins i see yellow bar appearing that my phone is disconnected so again i have to open whatsapp on phone to reconnect.
this is very annoying to see this kind of problem on new phones, especially when old phones are working flawless.
Kind of the same problem, but with GPS. Once I disabled the battery saver mode, it stopped disconnecting. Have you tried that?
Are you referring to power saving mode in battery settings. i did check and they are turned off. No idea what else i am missing here.
I tried re-installing viber but still after 10 mins its keep disconnecting.

I'm having the same issue on my regular non edge s6. This settings is not doing anything have it on always still always drops the wifi when going to sleep. Its driving me crazy no idea why its doing this
i did check and i have Keep WiFi on during sleep >> Always option but still drops, no clue whats wrong with my phone.
I had the same issue and solved it by changing my routers security from WPA2/Mixed Mode to WPA2 Personal. Since this change, it works fine on both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.

I received my Galaxy S 6 edge a week ago and I am having this same peculiar reconnecting issue to WiFi that has been described here.
Solution?
I was having this same issue and was unable to find any good solutions for it online, but eventually found something for me that worked through experimenting:
Find the above mentioned "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option (which is probably set to "Always" already), change it to "Never", and then change it back to "Always". Since doing this I haven't had it disconnect from the wi-fi once, where as before it would do it everytime the screen had been off for a few minutes.
The problem started happening sometime after I played with power saver mode, so I think it might be related to that. I know that the software has some other bugs related to power saving mode, as I had a previous problem where my softkeys stopped vibrating or lighting up, which ended up being related to not exiting ultra power saving mode correctly and was fixed by going re-enabling ultra power saving mode and exiting again.
Hi guys. Since I updated to LP .28 I have been having trouble with notifications, I don't get any notifications until I turn on the screen. I have STAMINA Mode enabled but I already added Whatsapp and FB to the exception list, and also, it doesn't matter if Queue Background Data is on or off, I still don't get notification which is very very annoying. I really don't want to wipe my ROM, as I have a lot of mods and stuff. Do you have the same issue?
Had the same problem directly after updating to .28. After disabling and enabling all Stamina related settings everything went back to normal.

In stamina mode the phone turns off data when screen is switched off turning it on at set intervals at times(usually when you get a phone call or text also) or when you turn on the screen.
I even had this with the battery saver option on my xperia s. So its nothing new, maybe you just noticed it now.
P.s this really should be in the Q&A section.
Thank you. I believe you haven't read my post carefully, I clearly mentioned that even if I turn the option of Queue BD off, the issue still persists, especially with whatsapp. thanx
Same problem here so I stopped using Stamina mode to solve it. Reinstalling ROM without a wipe may be required to fix this problem Goodluck

I was talking about stamina mode not the background data queue. Try turning stamina mode off completely you'll get what I meant.
Yes, I know that turning off Stamina would most likely solve the issue, but my point was why do we need to turn Stamina off to get notifications when it worked just fine under 4.4.4 and below. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Besides, I have never turned off Stamina Mode neither will I ever turn it off, it saves 50% of power all the time and for me it's a must. I used to own a Z Ultra as well, and never turned SM off, and it always worked perfectly, even when I activate Queue BD, I, of course, have some delays on getting notifications, but still not really bad, it used to sync every 5-10 minutes or so, which isn't really bad. Also, if Stamina Mode means no Mobile Data, and no notifications in return, then it's useless we are better off without it anyway. Thank you guys for the contribution.

All messages (whatsapp, LINE, BBM) are received instantly in real time (no delay) in Stamina mode while the screen is off.
