have you tried to flash to the stock rom ics?
if not you should try to flash to stock ics rom, then flash the kernel to install JB JB ROM. of course, make sure the first is successfully flashing the ICS ROM

I will try my best to help you.
The first is done you download ics stock rom ftf file, you can download here
The second did the flashing stock rom ftf the use, and make sure the flashing process smoothly without error.
third when you have successfully installed the stock ics rom, you can flash the kernel specifically for JB ROM. you can get here. do the flashing using fastboot via flashtool. (I suggest using the last kernel update)
fourth, after successfully flash the kernel JB of course now you have cwm installed from the kernel. JB did flash rom through cwm. You can get JB rom file here
thanks to etch04 for kenel and kontini for JB ROM XU
hopefully can help you :good: sorry for my bad english

If yes, should such an error will not appear earlier.
Maybe it helps you flash ICS kernel first. ics kernel you can download here
did flashing the kernel, then you try try again flash the ics rom.
or maybe if you want to use JB ROM, you can use the ROM of Pandemic, at this link
I have been using this ROM, pretty good.

Hi, thanks you for this tool kit.
It works fine for the moment for me, I try a backup TA and it works
I'll try the others options later. Good job :good:
Anyone can help me translate all #1 in english please ? i use google so may be not correct in here !
The English is fine.

haha good job ^^ do you try it ?
link is dead for flash tool
Done link fixed !
I successfully completed most steps until:
"Choose the third option to Unlock Bootloader. You will be prompted for the unlock sequence was taken from Sony. The phone will automatically into fastboot and do things"
On Toolkit I get:
Please enter an unlock code: (I press enter)
Rebooting to fastboot
Unlocking... (phone reboots)
< waiting for device >
and nothing... My laptop detects the phone as normal, but Toolkit does nothing, just says < waiting for device >
Also, even though it said rooting was successful, the root checker apps say my phone is not rooted...

It's a common problem in stock 2.3.7 Gingerbread. I had it too. Simply update to Android 4.0.4 (6.1.1.B.1.100) firmware using Flashtools and this problem will be solved.
Hit Thanks if I helped =D
@ABU JHL
Can you connect in fastboot mode?
Turn it off first then try.
Don't rush to update to ICS you might regret you did later.

Mass storage when it is off? Is yhat normal or feature of GB? Mine not showing on PC when it's off.
Try this, turn the phone off, press volume up and connect to the PC, then try the same with volume down. In one the lerd should turn blue and the other green, not sure which is which in xperia u.
It would be good if you download flashtool before you try this and open it while you try and copy and post the log in the window.
Also install drivers located in flashtool directory in "drivers", you need to install 3 drivers for XPU and flash and fasboot mode drivers at the bottom of the list.

Have you tried more than once, both modes?
What windows version you have?
And do not attempt to do anything with flashtool yet, just leave it open when you connect the device, log level info.

No no need to unlock bootloader, let me try something with my phone before I can tell you what you may try.
---------- Post added at 10:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 PM ----------
Please try the flash mode for more then a second.
We need to make sure it stay in this mode for about 45 seconds before it disconnets.
And fastboot should also stay on for more than just few seconds.

How do you mean lost everything?
Can you boot amd use the device now?
Upgrading to ICS is up to you.I don't have XU but from what I read in the forum it lags and has lots of problems, so if you are happy with your device I'd advise against upgrading.
As you know bootloader deletes all apps and contacts et.. Reset factory settings , and thanks for advice ! , I juwat want to root it , I downloaded a tft file from flashtool website , but idk what to do with it any help to root? MY build is .188 not .184

Maybe the root for 184 will work.
For some new versions of ICS downgrading the kernel to the version that is rooted make it possible to root newer versions, you can try that but make sure you have the original firmware and or kernel to revert to before you attenpt something like that, or rooting at all.

unlocking the bootloader doesn't wipe anything. I've unlocked 4 on different Xperia's and never lost apps and data

don't use flashtool for bootloader unlock.
download -
https://app.box.com/s/sxi55t3fci4iodx9oh8c
and follow the guide on here -
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
then make sure you have extract the fastboot usb file (you should have for unlock) go to the fastboot folder and put a boot.img in it. go back out a level and right click on the fastboot folder icon and choose open command window here.
then power the phone off.
hold volume up and connect to the pc.
type - fastboot devices
and it should reply something (can't remember what)
then type - fastboot flash boot boot.img
it should go through a quick little process and say completed in a few seconds?

Try this :
1. Uninstall all your drivers for your device completely!
- Use UsbDeview tool to remove hidden drivers for your device and drivers which you don't need , once you do that reboot your PC.
-Download from here :
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
- Also uninstall previos ADB & Fastboot tool completely , you can Use Revo Uninstaller and also CCleaner to clear let over registry keys .
- Revo Uninstaller:
https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
-CCleaner:
https://www.ccleaner.com/
2. Now , install lenovo usb driver.
- Download from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/17k5t27sn4pg217/LenovoUsbDriver_v1.1.34.zip
3. Download this mfastboot adb tool , once you have downloaded , make new folder on C:/ location like '"mfastboot_adb" and extract all files inside it .
- Download from here:
http://download.hardreset.info/motorola/mfastboot_adb_tools_HardReset_info.zip
- Now reboot your PC once again , put your phone in Fastboot mode and plug with usb cable with PC , let drivers to be installed automatically .
4. Now run Command Prompt with Administrator ( Run As Administrator) , and locate to mfastboot_adb folder like for example .
you have from default :
C: \Users\YourUserName>
change directory to C:\mfastboot_adb >
to do that write command :
cd C:\mfastboot_adb and press Enter .
- Now see if your device is recognised in fastboot mode
mfastboot device : (your device ID)
now try command : mfastboot getvar all or fastboot gevtvar unlocked ( just to make sure that can reed your device informations)
now try : mfastboot oem info , if doesn't work try mfastboot oem device-info
If that doesn't work try to reflash latest stock firmware for your device and region and try again . Good luck : ) ...
Thank you very much Teddy Lo for your try to help me
I followed all the steps , I deleted all old lenovo drivers and install them new , and I downloaded mfastboot adb tool .....
but no results
the Command Prompt read my phone already , but when I type mfastboot oem info or mfastboot oem device-info , the Command Prompt answer me ". . ." just three points
Now I want to change the firmware as you tell me ,
I already changed my phone's firmware before 3 weeks almost , I know this firmware not the original 100% , I think it is for different region , but it work ..
So .. if you can help me to get the stock (official) firmware for my phone, I happy
