There is a difference between unlocked bootloaded and having root and a custom recovery. Unlocked bootloader means you can flash custom kernels. This means it will stay that way until you lock the bootloader again. However when you flash a ftf you will generally lose root and a custom recovery. I hope I clarified things for you.

I used fastboot to boot this kernel.
Remember to fastboot you may need to reboot bootloader first.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash boot <path_to_kernel>/kernel.elf
fastboot reboot
Check then.

The post above answered your question and the answer is NO.
OK and thanks.
Thank you very much for the information
Hello everybody,
Please bear with me a little and if you would like to answer, please give as much details as possible.
I have and Xperia Acro S, with unlocked boot loader running a custom rom with stock kernel 4.0.4, and I have root access, and CWM installed.
I am trying to install a cyanogen based rom, with a custom kernel obviously.
I have downloaded a zip file which contains a boot.img file.
The developer asked to flash the boot.img using flashtool first, then to flash the rom with cwm. And here's my question(s)
As I understood, this boot.img contains the kernel, do I need to use flashtool if I already have CWM installed, or would CWM install the kernel also?
And let's say i extracted the boot.img from the zip file and flashed it, wouldn't this remove CWM from the phone?
And then, should the boot.img stay inside the zip file while flashing it with CWM later? or should i remove it because CWM can't flash boot.img?
I have successfully installed cyanogen roms on nexus s, with CWM alone, and the phone booted normally, and I suppose it replaced the kernel correctly, or it didn't?
And please if you could explain what exactly this boot.img is, and how is it different from a normal kernel file inside the zip, does it also contain a recovery? you get my point.
Thanks for reading so far, and thanks in advance for any answers.
i have xperia tipo and when i go to flash vengeance kernel with flashtool says:you need to be root and e.g.

and how do you want to flash it?? there's a superuser flashable zip in the dev section (I think) but you need cwm installed, and to install cwm you need root, so you first have to use that pc script I posted.
With that you don't need the flashable superuser, but is still necessary after you flash some custom rom
let me get this straight...
u can't unlock your bootloader and yet u're asking for a flashable zip for CWM?????
uhh... enlighten everyone of us here please... we are all very confused if that's the case...
Thanks so much for ur post
For u who confuse, i cant unlock my bootloader, but i can root and than install cwm, than i flash a rom, but without bootloader unlocked, after u flash a rom, cwm and superuser will not work, which is why i need to reflash the zip of these two right after i flashed a rom
Cheers!

[XU] Flashable Recovery

Similar to concept used by user mankotialovely in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220717
I have compiled a Cwm recovery.
This is for users having LOCKED BOOTLOADERS. When we install a custom from recovery‚ our recovery is wiped
and we have to install it again. Moreover if we get a boot loop
after installing custom rom then we have to flash official rom
again‚ root and install recovery again. To overcome these problems
I have made cwm recovery as a flashable zip. So after installing a custom
rom‚ don't reboot and flash this zip. So we have a recovery after rebooting.
Even if we get bootloop‚ we can restore phone using nandroid
backup.
So basically this is a cwm recovery which can be flashed from
Cwm itself.
Thanks to user mankotialovely
And atis112 for Cwm recovery (http://code.google.com/p/kumquat-project/downloads/detail?name=cwm-1.0-kumquat.zip&can=2&q)
You have compiled or its atis work?
Only compiled the zip. Files taken from his zip.

Yes it can't be flashed without recovery. U can flash it while u r flashing custom rom using recovery so that recovery is not wiped after reboot

and supposed the rom already has recovery then?
It definitely can give compatibility problems as the file are yet to be set up and boom you already flashed something new
Hope you understand
If rom already has one then no need of it dude. I reapeat it is for custom roms in LOCKED BOOTLOADERS that don't have built in recoveries.

[Suggestion]{xperia mini} Cm10.1 with legacy hacks???

Guys is there any CM10.1 rom built including legacy hacks(not expecting a near near source build). Too many strange looking names of roms(ported)......
Also which rom has the highest benchmarks???
Is 3.4 kernel stable with most of the things working????
Also is rooting possible for mini's 4.0.2.A.0.84 stock build without flashing previous firmware(*.62 or *.42) ???
Coming from HTC. Dont know **** about Sony
Can this be done in series?
1. Unlock boot loader
2. Flash recovery
3. Install a custom Rom.
Don't know **** about Sony.

1- not sure what "built including legacy hacks" means.
2- usually we dont care much about benchmark.
3- everything is working with 3.x kernel except fmradio.
4- not sure about rooting for gb or ics stock rom for lock bootloader, but if u unlock it, rooting is just as simple as flash custom kernel and flash superuser or supersu from cwm recovery. Even some of the custom kernel already include autoroot script.

Sony phones dont have separate/dedicated recovery partitions .So usually custom kernels bundle two or more ramdisks which double up as recovery ..It also means flash_image doesnt work ...Dont try ...We have TWRP on some kernels but it's just a hassle imo ...
If you are planning to unlock bootloader then you dont need to revert to .42/.58 ,
In any case you dont need to fall back for rooting
There are two rooting methods ,one using some custom installer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219781
and one using the Cydia Impactor
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399464
If you are planning to go JB ,you need to have ICS Bootloader which means the .587 firmware has to be flashed with flashtool

Lol ...
Thats the ONLY way to flash boot.img ..having unlocked bootloader means access to fastboot to allow custom boot.img...
Fastboot flash boot xyzasdf.img
If you are in locked bootloader ,the recovery lies in /system and is accessed via a custom script...
You can't use flash_image and/or dd to flash kernels in android system or recoveries ...locked or unlocked bootloader...custom kernels has to be flashed using fastboot....it's a limitation of Sony device ...considering you mentioned HTC and 4ext ,you probably had a HTC desire and used flash_image and dd,and the kernels could be flashed using recovery...Not so on Sony devices...
