[Q] URGENT HELP! Recovery/Update Rogers Galaxy Note II SGH-I317! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, (please don't yell at me!) I am a noob, I have scowered to find an answer for this and I haven't, so I'll post it here. Honestly whoever helps me is a GOD.
I have a Galaxy Note II from Rogers (Canadian provider). I've had it for 8 months and loved it. I haven't touched the innards of it yet, it has been stock since I've gotten it. So a few days ago, it died as per usual and I plugged it in over night. I woke up and it would not turn on! The farthest it gets is a battery with a frozen loading sign on it. It doesn't go any further.
It goes into recovery mode; rebooted the device but it gets past the home screen for about 1 or 2 seconds, freezes and dies. After frantically searching the internet and xda forums, I came up with the semi conclusion that my Note II has suffered from SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) which is only a self diagnostic. I went into Rogers as it's under warranty to get it replaced but they said it'd be wiped clean! I can't have that happen. I have incredibly important files on my phones internal storage.
So this is where I need your help guys! I REALLY would appreciate it.
I downloaded the Rogers Stock upgrade to 4.1.2 and put it on a microSD and went into recovery mode again on my device and tried installing the update via external storage (so maybe my phone can boot up again!) but all I get is e:signature verification failed which is NOT GOOD! I am completely stuck beyond this point, my phone won't boot but goes into stock recovery. How do I get my phone to start? I need to preserve my files! I could use any help that I could get!

I'm taking it that your phone is not rooted?

Got Odin as well... Lemme know!

You could attempt flashing cwm and installing a custom ROM to see if it'll boot.
Edit - You may also want to see if this could come in handy - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052779 (not sure if it'll work in recovery mode, but its worth a try. Even if it doesn't, you could use it once booted).

previously rooted phone won't load past splash screen

I've had the phone for around 6 months, rooted it back in Feb or something.
Started having problems freezing and restarting a few weeks ago, has probably only done this only a handful of times, until this morning...
Phone locked up and restarted then started loading the splash screen directly after the samsung galaxy sII screen and got stuck in an infinite cycle. It doesn't vibrate when turned on and no buttons work the only means of turning it off when in the loop is pulling the battery.
I've searched this topic but all I can find are ppl that have un-rooted phones or ppl that just rooted their phones. I can get into recovery mode but don't know what to do after that... help!

I honestly don't know, I saw the update awhile back and wasn't on wifi so I didn't update it. Then heard on the offroad forum that I frequent that some were having problems with the update so I never actively seeked it out to install it and never saw it pop up again but I do update often so it automatically updates then most likely. I'm pretty savvy with electronics but don't really know any of the lingo yall use in these forums so please go light on it lol

I thought I listed all the info needed, what else are you looking for? It's a Galaxy SII, when I get to recovery mode at the top of the screen is: CWMR Touch v5.5.0.4 other than that I'll need more specifics as to what info you need.

go into CWM, wipe cache and dalvik cache(under advanced) and fix permissions, also under andvanced i believe.
If that doesnt help, might have to wipe data.

The only thing left to try would be to use factory reset in cwm. If that doesnt work then youll have to flash new firmware

I would suggest you try flashing stock UCKH7 to see if that will clear the boot loop. To do that, follow the guide in my signature. If you want to try straight stock, use the guide to return the phone to the store. If you want to try stock plus root, use the guide about flashing custom binaries. The download link for the firmware you need is contained within the guides. After you flash, see if the phone boots. If it still loops, enter 3e recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset. If it still loops, or not, let us know the results. Doing the above will be safe since the firmwares contain no bootloaders, and also are free of the eMMC superbrick bug.

Get into download mode and flash the stock UCKH7. If it still persists then your phone is screwed

Dual booting has always been unstable and the only way out is to start from scratch. I would not advice dual booting unless you are able to spend time redoing it.

The only think that can hardbrick was that bootloader you flashed... Don't do that when it's completely unnecessary.

[Q] Flashing Custom Recovery for GT-N7105

I'm not sure if I should even be asking this here as I'm Australian, so none of the "Verizon, Sprint, TMobile or AT&T" really apply to me. But this seems to be the only place to ask. I would ask here, but I can't as I'm new.
I have a Galaxy Note 2 LTE. As I said, I live in Australia, so it's the international version of the device. GT-N7105.
I'm trying to put CyanogenMod on the device, but obviously I need to put the ClockworkMod recovery on the device first.
Now, at first it was working. I was able to put the recovery on the device completely fine. Then I downloaded the CyanogenMod and tried to flash it on to my device. It wouldn't work. I later discovered that I was using the wrong recovery. I was using the american version of my device, which was incompatible with the CyanogenMod version for my device.
I ended up attempting to put the correct ClockworkMod on my device, and this is where the issue has begun. Ever since then my device has done the exact same thing every time. I ended up "formatting" my device with the official firmware for Australia, bringing it back to normal. Though it's still only 4.1, and the main reason I want to use CyanogenMod, not to mention the bloatware.
Now here's the problem that's happening. I seem to be able to put the correct ClockworkMod on the device just fine... Except when I boot in to recover, the screen spazes out and then the device **appears to** turn off. Holding the power button appears to turn it back on like normal and I can boot back in to my device just fine.
HERE'S A VIDEO SHOWING EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS
As you can see I installed ROM Manager which shows that the ClockworkMod Recovery is installed and detected by it just fine.
Can anyone give me any information as to why this is happening and/or what I could potentially do about it?
Sorry for the long post. Hopefully it's not toooooo long.
I'm not sure of your answer so don't want to give bad info and don't feel like researching your device to answer. However there is a forum for you phone. I'm sure they can be much more helpful.

Stock Bootloop - Help recovering data!

So out of nowhere, my Note II shuts off last night and I'm unable to boot. When turning the phone on, the SGNII splash screen shows up just fine, but then my phone will endlessly loop back and forth between the Samsung animation and the Verizon 4G LTE animation.
This phone has never been rooted and runs the stock version of everything. Now I would do a factory reset if it weren't for the fact that I have very important photos and videos of my grandmother who recently passed away in my internal storage.
I have tried going into recovery mode, clearing cache, trying to access the internal memory via USB, and nothing works. I desperately need to have a phone to use, but at the same time would rather go phone-less with hopes that I may be able to recover these photos. I have spent countless hours trying to recover this data or even fix the bootloop, but I can't seem to figure out a solution.
I know I am a noob on these forums and this is my first post, but I would GREATLY appreciate being able to recover any part of these immensely important photos. If anyone has a way to recover these photos, I would forever be in gratitude for sharing it with me. Thank you.

If you've never rooted/are stock, how are you in recovery mode? Are you sure you aren't in DL mode?
If you can access download mode/for some reason had debugging enabled/you could try running casual, wiping everything but the data, and installing a custom rom
Otherwise, your data might be gone unless you use a minisd or dropbox.

Then I pretty much think you are boned.
I don't know, but you could try reflashing the stock firmware in ODIN if you get that working.
Two things, there is a stock recovery in the phones so he can get into the stock recovery. Having said that I don't think a factory reset will erase photos. I know it didn't from a custom recovery and in pretty sure a stock recovery is the same

I tried ADB, but my phone wasn't being connected (and it was my first time using ADK on my Note 2). I don't know if that has anything to do with the fact that I never enabled USB debugging.
this is what you do
When messing with my phone 2 days ago I got into a bootloop were it flashed the 4g symbol repeatedly. Here is how I recovered everything and didn't loss pics or anything. I went through Odin and reflashed the system connected to my computer. Look up link to root the phone it should be about injected root and Odin follow all steps and back back to normal.

[Q] Please help me save my 3 months old GN2

Hi i got my white AT&T Galaxy Note ii few months back and i really loved it, i was first using my phone with Wifi since it was locked, but after unlocking it few days ago, when i inserted my sim card, the phone showed 4G and ever since my BATTERY have not known peace, i loose 1% battery life in like 2 minutes.
I also had issues turning on my wifi hotspot so i can share network to other devices.
When i found this awesome site, i learned that i could root my phone and get it to do so much more, i did that successfully with an APK app here called framaroot, now i followed every single step well and booted my phone with Samsung Custom rom i think.
But the problem now is, my battery is still not been able to hold a charge, the 4G icon is still there which i don't need for anything, am ok with 3G, and i still have all this crazy useless AT&A apps allover my phone and i can't even turn on my hotspot for tethering.
Please i hope to get solution to this problems, and i hope i have not asked my question in the wrong thread.
Thanks all.

go here for downloading you stock firmware
or here also download odin from the second link
then open odin and place the downloaded tar file in pda
if it is a zip file extract it you will get tar file or tar.md5
then backup your data etc and turn off your phone
press vol down+home+power button to enter a screen then press vol up to enter download mode
connect your phone to pc
odin will show the port you connected
then start flashing after some time usually below 10min
odin will show pass then remove your phone and on
your phone will be as fresh as you bought

Hi am going through it now, once am done i'll give you an update on how it all went.
Thanks
Hi,
After installing the Jedix 19 ROM the phone is stock on the Samsung Galaxy Note II logo.
What do you think could be the cause of this, i even did the wipe data and wipe cache process but still the same thing.
Do you have a recovery installed? If you've got cwm, download CyanogenMod and stick it on an mini SD card, move it to your phone, factory wipe it and flash it. Its worked for me on a boot looped gnote2. Also, once you get a working ROM, just use your root to remove system apps.
only do this is if you have a custom recovery like cwm or twrp
Step by step:
0: get the required stuff, you're gonna need about 250mb of internet, a microsd card, a card reader and some patience.
1: download CyanogenMod, http://get.cm and get a stable for the t0lteatt (att gnote 2)
2:download gapps for 4.3.
3:move them both to the SD and put it in your phone. Boot into recovery.
4:factory reset it, hope you don't using a out of the box phone.
5:flash cm, then gapps.
6:reboot
7:if it works, take a backup
Good luck!

Hi thanks so much for your reply, i appreciate your time.
Yes i have a backup file with the help of CWM and i have been able to move back to my backup file.
My phone model is SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 and from all the reviews i have seen i think the JediX Custom ROM is the best yet for it so am trying to stick with it for a start.
I need suggestions on why after getting the congratulation message to feel the force, it won't boot and just hangs.
Please if you have experienced this in the past please your suggestions are welcomed.
Ask me questions and i'll provide answers that am sure will help you to help me solve this
I would just flash cyanogen for the time being to see if itll even boot. It just replaces the downloading stock in previous posts. If you can get it to boot, that will be progress.

So sorry i forgot to mention it that i was able to restore to my stock backup file and my phone is working fine, but i still want to flash a ROM on it.
Am tired of charging this phone every minute, this is a Note II for crying out loud.
If i ask you to choose for me, between Jedix19 and CyanogenMod 10, which would you stick with so that i'll know if am to start downloading a new ROM to flash again and try.
Thanks
Honestly I've never used a Jedi ROM, so mainly if you want to stick to Jedi try flashing a different version. Good job taking that backup, that saved a whole lotta trouble.

for battery try any other kernel or use set cpu or no frills to set up the kernel for optimum battery
That, or your battery may just be shot. You can buy one for it off the internet: I'm rockin' a 5300 mah for this.
