[Q] about nandroid restore cwm - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I'm just facing this problem that when I restore my rom thru cwm (everything I.e. Sys+data), it can boot up and seems everything works fine but when I start to reboot my phone, it's taking a long time and i'm getting stuck at sony logo. I tried softreset but no luck and when I do a hard reset (power+vol up 3 vibration) it can boot up but everything is messed up. Then restore system again and it goes back to the same problem again. And the only thing to get rid of the problem is to start all over via pc flashtool. Is there anything wrong with my procedure? Have I missed something abt restoring back up? If someone can point me to the right direction, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance :-S

Try installing this recovery. Remove all previous backups. Do a new backup with this cwm and try restoring it. Usually backing up data takes less time than restoring. After restoring the data first boot takes a bit longer time.
Helped?? Press Thanks.

The thread says it's for ics locked bootloader. I'm on jb unlocked bl

U did not mention that. Well, if that is the case then try installing any kernel with cwm inbuilt. Take a look at experimental kernel 8.7. Do check out if your rom supports it or not.

What I would suggest is to flash the J12 update through odin and see if that works. If that works, after boot up, go back and flash original rom back with odin and see if that helps. You should never click on repartition through odin because the instruction does not advise to do that when flashing a rom through odin. Hopefully you did not mess up your phone.
You probably need to follow 'eugenes froyo that doesn't brick' method. Do that first then odin to stock. Ind this should be posted in general or q&a

1) This should be in "Q & A" or at the very least "General".
2) What ROM were you using that you are flashing back from?
3) Did you have any "lag fixes" installed?

Make sure your flashing the stock JDF because the JI6 doesn't contain all of the files, and if that doesn't work flash the "froyo that does not brick rom" by eugene that is in the bible then flash the stock JFD rom

When it say wipe data it doesn't wipe the built in memory it just wipes the partition where the OS is installed. Make sure you don't have voodoo lag fixed installed or it will hang up every time, I have used this method about 6 times to unbrick and have never had an issue. I followed the instructions to the letter and it has worked perfectly every time, but I would need more info on what rom you are coming from and what lag fix or what you have installed if all fails try the above mentioned fix with froyo that does brick.

launch your phone into recovery mode and delete everything-cache and all user data. i reinstalled the packages and then rebooted the system. its working without any problems now.
Fixed it!
OK, i ran into this exact issue yesterday and fixed it. This is what I did.
First flash Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick with Odin.
Went through steps one and two. Don't worry about the sdk thing.
Now you should be in recovery mode. Pull the battery. Get back into download mode. Now flash, [ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working). This got me out of trouble. I hope it works for you.
installing the froyo that dosent brick resolved my issue!
thank you for all your responses and help
Moved to Q&A
Anybody know where I can find this eugenes froyo that doesnt brick? Seems gino decided to remove the dl link for it n I checd his site but didnt c it, so im hoping theres like a mirror or maybe sum1 has it saved or something. Well anyway im able to flash the jk2froyo but it wont wipe data n then it wont let me dL any apps bcuz it says sorry not enough space.
It took some googling but I found it here

Having problems with Odin, bah... trying to get my phone to work but always getting the "Data Write Failed" in red error.
EDIT: Haha nevermind got it to finally work after flashing Eugene's Froyo then stock JFD, guess I was using a different/wrong version of Eugene's Froyo haha damn I'm so relieved!!
I'm having a similar issue. Can someone give step by step instructions on how to fix this, please. I'm able to boot up, but then it give an error that says i have no space for apps. I check the application space and it just says 0.00 MB. Please help

Think my daughter just bricked her Optimus V

Need some help, this is my daughter's phone and she was having problems on CM7 so I restored a nandroid for her back to the stock rom. She tried to do a factory reset (didnt know she wasnt supposed to, I totally forgot) and now nothing works. Ive tried restoring it again, flashing a different rom, but get the same result after reboot every time - back to recovery. Is there anything I can do to get this thing out of recovery and actually reboot to a rom?

Firstly thanks...i didn't know that we are not supposed to factory reset after a nand restore
Secondly, try flashing the original firmware using LGMDP
Tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324105
If the link of v20c doesn't work, then try v10e i got my phone's life back when it almost got bricked once using this method.

Cant even get windows to recognize the phone while its in recovery, even after installing the optimus v drivers
EDIT: Got it fixed, I found a different recovery, flashed it, and all is good now. The problem must have been CWM.
good info to know
That sucks!

its S-ON, yes i can access recovery, the only thing i did was try to change the font using Font Installer then it rebooted after that it would go on HTC quietly brilliant logo then blacked off, i hold the power button but it did the same thing over n over again for an hour. So i thought if i factory reset it it would fix the problem but i think i made it worse cause now its just stuck on HTC quietly brilliant logo, I left it there for couple of hours and went out hoping when i get back a miracle would happen and it'll be fix but when i got home its still stuck on that logo. I still can access recovery though. This is my very first rooted phone and i have no idea what to do next.

What recovery are you using, TWRP? Had you flashed a ROM prior to tinkering with fonts? Did you make a full backup of your stock ROM after HTC unlocking to load your recovery? I am going to make some assumptions to my questions. If you are using TWRP you can mount the sdcard from recovery and copy on another ROM (pick one to use ... MeanROM?). Even if you can't mount the sdcard from recovery you can still get a ROM on to your phone by pulling sdcard2 from the external sdcard slot and manually mounting/copying to/from your CPU.
If you made a backup of your stock rom after loading your recovery then the first thing to try is wiping everything (factory, caches, etc...) and restore the backup. (Sounds like you may have tried that already).
If that does not work then download a different ROM and try it ... MeanROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727167) uses it's own splash at start so that may help (because it sounds like you are stuck at the HTC splash).

When you get in recovery wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system. Then reflash the rom, you will be fine.
Sent from my lair.
It seems to be that some people are having problems with flashing other fonts (source). ALWAYS do a nandroid backup before doing any of these types of modifications to your phone in the future, it's the fastest way to fix broken things. Also make sure that the fonts you are trying to install have been working with our phones and the newest versions of Android and/or Sense.
Here are some things you can do that might fix your bootloop. In descending order try these:
If you have a current Nandroid backup, restore it. It will get your phone working 100% with the least amount of data loss and won't require you to set it all up again.
Re-flash the same ROM you have (if it's stock, it can also be found in the Android Dev section of the forum). This will likely fix the problem. Especially if it's a font issue.
Hope it doesn't come to this but run the RUU that matches your system. This will completely set your phone back to day 1. You'll have to reroot, etc.
Best of luck. And remember to do nandroids often! :good:
THANK YOU GUYS!!!! i was about to give up
i did what you guys told me to do, download a different rom install it on my sdcard and flash it in recovery. AGAIN thank you guys so much, ya'll just made my day. MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
Anytime you can access recovery you are fine

[Q] DX2 doesn't boot after backup

Hello, I have a major problem with something that should have been a minor project. I used System Recovery to do a backup of the phone. The only thing I can think of there that I might have done differently is save the backup to the external SD card, instead of internal. After the backup completed, I went to reboot the phone and it's stuck on the Motorola splash screen. I tried to pull the battery and go into that general Android Recovery in order to wipe data and try again, but I just get the Android with an exclamation point over his head. I've tried booting it without the SD card too. I was using CM7
Can anyone help please!
EDIT: A couple hours later, since it was my work phone, I had to do something. I reverted the SBF, re-rooted and tried to restore from the backup I made and the same thing happened. I'm going to try to revert to my previous backup. I have a full backup from Titanium Backup if it comes down to it. The phone was working fine, I just can't figure out why it blew up on me after I ran the backup. Grr..

sounds like a bad backup. i always use external sd for nandroids and it has never had issues.i would just re-flash. as for stock recovery with andy with an exclamation , push both volume keys. should work regardless of what state the phone is in. i have had it completely unusable and it still worked.

OK - You mean to flash cleanly with CM7 and then restore from Titanium backup instead of my previous nandroid backup?
I'm slightly confused about that System Recovery tool, because first I had ROM Manager and it says that CWM is installed, but it doesn't work. Do I have to manually install that System Recovery APK each time I do stuff like this, or does it stay installed? And if so, from a powered off state, how do you enter it? Or do you have to boot up to Android and enter recovery mode from the app? Thanks.

yes i would try that. second, dont use rom manager. dont delete it either. but it doesnt work on our phone. the bootstrap recovery that you install would only need to be reinstalled if you delete cache in recovery. otherwise it should always work. hope this helps. im not completely sure exactly what you are asking.
try just restoring system part of backup, see if phone will boot, then restore user data
or reinstall cm7 and restore just user data

I should be fine now, thanks for the advice. I don't know why that backup blew up the phone, but it was sure an inconvenience haha! I just reflashed CM completely, and now I'm gonna roll out my Titanium backup. I don't have a lot of stuff, just the essential stuff for work, so it shouldn't take too long.

[q] please help - possible brick

Hello everyone, Forgive me if I seem a bit flustered, but I am. I was adding a few fonts with an app from the play store. It would restart after each fine, and there was no issue. On the final one, it restarted, but then got hung up for 10 minutes on the ATT logo. I have restarted it with the power button numerous times now, and it has done nothing different. I have only rooted the phone, I have no custom recovery or anything. I booted into the LG stock recovery, canceled the reset, and it still hung up at the ATT logo.
What might have happened, and how can I fix this? I would rather not hard reset, but if I have to, I have to. Please respond with anything at all that might help me. I'm using my old GSII right now, and the newer sim doesn't fit quite right in it. I can make calls and stuff, but i want to get back on the OG as fast as possible. PLEASE respond with anything helpful. Thanks.
I am running stock Jellybean (The initial jellybean we got, I think it was 4.1.1), rooted. No custom roms, no custom recovery.
UPDATE: I did a factory reset (by holding power and volume down). It is still doing the same thing. It gets to the ATT logo and plays the music "Dee dee dee dee 'click'", then stops. Nothing more happens. At all. I've let it sit for a while and nothing is happening. So now the question is, how can I save it with that in mind?

Sound like you need to use LGNPST or use a teenybin then flash a custom ROM. Factory reseting ( I think) only clears out the /data partition which is where all user and app data is saved. If something in the /system partition is not allowing it to boot, that is why the factory reset didn't work. To fix you have to restore the /system partition back to stock.
To do so, flash a full bin. Which will reset the phone to complete stock (no root, no unlocked bootloader).
Or you can flash a teenybin. Which is smaller and safer. Flashing a teenybin unlocks the bootloader and puts a custom recovery. From there you can just flash a new ROM.

Apologies all, yes I got it working... Mostly. WiFi quit working completely (refused to connect), phone calls took forever to go through, and other odd issues. I'm running it off an old backup of ICS on my external SD. The issues were too much for me to handle, and I was scared to do anything more, so I've got a Moto x. I'm going to try to correctly fix the OG now, so hopefully by documenting the process I can help someone else.

i was scared to use teenybin like you but 4.4 lured me into trying. Give teenybin a try its not that bad. you just need to install it, download the teenybin, launch the program, boot your phone into download mode and run the program with the dll and bin files selected.
