I updated.... and Now after using MOST root methods, it's not letting me keep the root, and the device status is Custom. Any help or am I screwed?

If its is ME7 (latest update), you have to use the new root method, which is stickied on the development thread.

Ok thanks for the quick reply! I'll take a deeper look in the development thread!

Samsung Drivers/Tools?

Ok guys for the note, how do I find the latest odin version to use to root? And where did you guys find the best place for the drivers?
I goggled it.
http://www.filecrop.com/Odin-ANDROID.html
To my knowledge this is the current way to root with provided tools and drivers.

Right, but development forum is for the releasing of development, not asking for development items. All questions should be asked in the q&a forum.
This may be what you want though.

Will the S4 have the flash counter like the S3 did, and if so will flashing the stock ROM from ODIN trigger it?
Not sure I use a sprint variant and as far as I know there isn't one.

Awesome thanks for confirming. This should reset the flash counter back to 0 without a problem then. Someone was asking about this earlier on.

OP confirmed that this is a manufacturer image and as such should reset the flash counter back to 0.

Unfortunately, the original one was closed due to improper crediting (as per mod), I have recreated the same in a more detailed simple guide. Link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798

Just wanted to ask: We should flash this AFTER completing the rooting methods? (Flash via ODIN the same way we did root etc..,) Sorry Im new to Samsung and rooting phones in general, but I do have experience with root/bootloader/etc.., on my tablet...
I see we refer to this as "MDK" Would that be the baseband version or build number? If I am already on Build#JDQ39.I545VRUAMDK and baseband# I545VRUAMDK, would I still need to flash this file to get back to "stock" w/ root? Just a little bit confused....

The provided build at the moment is a "Back to Stock" restore. I'm working on a pre-rooted version but AFAIK you'd have to have the bootloader unlocked in order to flash these. Being on Sprint I'm still a little confused on how that works - hopefully spending a little more time around the forums will help clear that up. (Thinking about getting one of these for the parents as a holiday gift - the lower end one they have seems to just be... substandard.)

@HeyRobi: half True there's no native rooting or tethering yet (foxfi and custom roms work tho) but there's a thread under development section that can downgrade part of you and then root u then re upgrade u to custom rooted 4.4,2 not roms or there's nc5 prerooted roms to flash thru safestrap check out my thread if you have questions or concerns feel free to ask in the thread:fingers-crossed:

so I looked at your link and seems like some people are struggling so I haven't tried it yet. Are we any closer to a simple root. I don't necessarily need to install a recovery just want root. And by the way thanks for posting the link.

You may be out of luck.
The method is easy but it will wipe your phone.
There is a chance yo could be waiting for a looong time.
So if I'm OK with wiping it works. Everything will work?

Try towel root, it worked on my nc5, only problem is that the bootloader is locked so I cannot flash roms
Simply search "towelroot apk" and you should find a link to xda or to towelroot.com
