Hi All.
I might be missing the obvious here but how do you get into recovery on these things?
I've read loads of posts and tried various combinations with Vol+/- and Power, Wait for the light then do the same..... Nothing!!
I've put root on it it but left the bootloader looked. The device says I can unlock it if I want. It's the 16GB Wifi model (UK)
Any ideas where I'm going wrong?
Thanks

Maybe you;re mixing the fastboot method and cwm method on your head..
if you're question is how will you get to recovery then my answer is VOL UP.
power on your xtz and when the "SONY" shows up simply spam the vol up and you're good :good:

Thanks for the reply. If I'm reading what you put right, it's:
Hold Vol up
Press Power
Wait for Sony logo then ? Not sure what you meant by "when the "SONY" shows up simply spam the vol up"
Thanks

Haha, Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
I'm laughing because I still haven't got a clue what SPAM VOLUME means so I'm going to go for HOLD VOLUME.

LOL, I even ended up on the Urban Dictionary... I'm thinking..Oh no, it's one of those young people phrases again!!
Thanks again for the help though, I'll get that dual recovery installed I think. I'm not even planning on flashing it. I just want a good backup.
Hello Zach181,
have succeeded in holding the vol up ?
I have the same trouble and can't access the recovery mode.
press power on
wait for the sony logo to appear
hold the vol up button
but nothing happens, it boots in the normal way.
thanks
Let's try to make it clear.
The device does not come from factory with any button combination that can get you into any recovery.
You need to flash a custom recovery first.
The process for "XZDualRecovery" is to wait a second after the sony logo appears and then when the notification light turns green hold Volume Up for CWM, Volume Down for TWRP.
Might be different for other recoveries, but at least try this method.
Let me clear it too...
its NOT HOLD
but SPAM or KEEP PRESSING

What works for me is HOLD the correct volume button, but not from the start, but from the time the LED turns green.

I must admit that I have put it in fastboot but only if holding from the power on and not pressing repeatedly. I've been too engrossed with my new toy to try much but I will sort recovery today.
So what we are saying is...
No recovery Installed
Power and hold Vol up = Fastboot
Recovery Installed
Power (Wait for light) Vol up = CWM ---- Vol Down = The other one (Forgot the name)
That still leaves us with fastboot mode with recovery. Would that be as I said at the beginning of this post... Power on and hold Vol Up straight away (Don't wait for the light)
.

Not sure how many know , and this will be useful one we get root and roms
To boot into hboot, hold VOL down and power button while powering on.
Fast boot must be disabled or you must pull battery. (Thanks mallman)
When you choose recovery, you must press VOL up + Vol dwn + Pwr to access recovery options (Stock recovery) (Thanks erismaster)
Should post a full How To in the Dev forum so it can be stuck and referred to more often. It's going to get buried here in the General board.

if you choose recovery from hboot and go to stock android recovery, pressing in both volume buttons, and the power button brings up the options to reboot now, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache.
thanks for this!
I am trying to root my tab following these instructions, http://www.thedroiddemos.com/2011/08/28/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-video-walkthrough/
but I can't get the tablet to boot into download mode? I am using stock 3.2 update and when I hold the volume down and power after a few seconds the samsung logo comes up but then thats it. It will just keep restarting with the samsung logo booting up but I don't get the option to ever boot into download or recovery mode, it keeps skipping that part.
Any help would be much appreciate and I did try and search first before I posted.

You need to hold power and volume down at the same not one followed another
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
sorry I didn't mean followed by power...I am holding volume down and power at the same time and that is what happens.
There was another thread where the solution was posted. I think you have to tap the power then hit both once you see Samsung. If that doesn't work search for the other thread.

That worked, thanks
This is trickier than it seems. The only way I could make it work was:
- press the Vol- button.
- while pressing it, press the power button
- when the Samsung logo appears, let the power button go but keep pressing the Vol- one
- wait until the download/recovery screen appears
- let the Vol- button go

If your power led is still on...
try to press power button for at least 10 sec (force a hard reset).
Power led should go off afterwards.
Then try again to get in to recovery mode by pressing vol down + power button.
What happens?

scholbert

thanks, yeah I just figured it out, its weird that when the phone is completely shut off I do the volume up then press power button on, it takes me to fastboot, but if I keep holding volume up and release the power and push power button for the second time then it enters recovery every time, kind odd to me but it works
ok I was playing around again entering recovery manually and now I can`t everytime I hold volume up and power button and goes to fastboot, then I did the second press of the power goes right to fastboot again, is there something jack up with my phone?
hmm that kinda odd... what ROM are you trying to flash?
From bootloader screen use vol up twice then power, or vol dwn twice then power.

Glad it worked. This app is nice, but need to be booted.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot
Also you can reboot into recovery from TiBU
so after installing the latest twrp using twrp app; I tried to boot into recovery and my phone is just stuck on fastboot. I'm not able to turn phone off. Tried different solutions but nothing seems to help. the only command to work is reboot booloader which takes me to the same screen. after searching these threads I have not found anyone with this phone having that issue. any help would be appreciated.
fyi tried 3 different cables, 2 different computers lol.
I discovered that if you hold Volume + and Power while on any screen until it turns off and on and off and on and off again, you can boot in to recovery. (Before I had to take apart the phone and remove the battery lol) Just hold these two buttons for about 25 seconds and eventually it will boot in to twrp/stock recovery
Easier way I think.. .. . Hold power and volume up buttons until end of the second vibration, then release power. After you see the recovery screen - then you can release volume up.

battery finally drained. I tried the volume down + power, released when it vibrates but doesn't get me to recovery. I'm gonna charge it for about 2 minutes and try it again. at least I don't have to worry about this damn thing exploding and setting my place on fire while I'm gone lol.
update: so I tried again and as soon as plug the phone to charge it goes in to fastboot. tried volume down and power. release when it vibrates and it wont get to recovery. I also found a stock file somewhere b322 or 320. put it on a dload folder and did the 3 button trick and nothing either. time to trash this damn thing I guess lol.
Volume UP + power - go back and read my last post carefully for how to get to recovery.

so ok, I tried volume up + power and nothing. phone is on fastboot wont turn off. it restarts but wont stay off.
From your PC folder where you should have a copy of fastboot.exe and put a copy TWRP.img file for the phone:
> fastboot boot TWRP.img
Then if that works, you should be able to turn it off from the TWRP menu - and maybe you need to reflash TWRP if you have not done so yet.

My friend was just stuck at the fastboot screen for hours now and he gave up. I grabbed the phone and held all the buttons, vol up + down + power and when it vibrated I let go of the volume buttons and kept the power till the logo came up then let go and it booted up normally. Not sure why after hrs of trying to figure it out that this worked and I never read to do that. Just wanted to share in case anyone has a phone stuck. I flashed different versions of twrp an could not get into recovery at all.
I just put my phone in fastboot/bootloader mode, then held the power button in until the phone vibrated, then released the power button - after that the phone booted up to normal mode.

Oh ok good to know. Maybe me holding the volumes buttons did nothing so I had basically did what you did since I did let go of the power button right after.
Seems that way, and it's easy enough for you to confirm his phone works the same way just to be sure.
