Belkin charger. How to use the maximum of the car charger!? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear Xda- forumers,
I have one question. I'm not very into it but i want to know how i can use the maximum potential in my new Belkin micro charger 2.1AMP (http://www.belkin.com/us/F8Z689/p/P-F8Z689) which is designed to work with Iphone and IPad but it works great with my Samsung Galaxy s3 (I9300). I want to know how to force the phone to pull 2.1A and what cable to use for that reason. I've maded some test with my S3 and i find out that when I try to charge my S3 through the usb of the laptop with the original cable its kind of slow job. But when i use some bulky cable (about 1$ from ebay) it is very fast. Is there any meaning which cable i will use in my car charger? Is this connected somehow with the ROM or the kernel that i use with my S3. By this time my Samsung is absolutely stock but it is rooted.(stock Rom + stock Kernel). Please give me some advices! Thanks !

Wrong forum.

Sory for that... how can i change it....
P.S - it can be count as some kind of android development because i need some software or somehing to force the phone to pull "2.1A".. I'm not sure. Let the moderator decide. Sorry again!

use any custom kernel like boeffla or adam kernel. Boeffla can set your charging to 1500 mA. while adam kernel can set it upto 2300 mA. But be CAREFUL, it may explode or something. I'm not responsible.

Thanks for the fast answer. Isn't there some kind of MOD or something just to do it instead of changing the whole kernel?

up... Really need some help..

Is there any chance not to change the kernel only to put some MOD or something?

You have to change the kernel.

Thank you guys. Ive changed the kernel and realised that i can change the charging current really.... But i have new problem. I cant understand which current is for what... for example:
-DCP AND MAINS AC INPUT CURRENT
-DCP AND MAINS AC CHARGE CURRENT
-SDP INPUT CURRENT
-SDP CHARGE CURRENT
-CDP INPUT CURRENT
-CDP CHARGE CURRENT
I dont know which is for what and i cant find any details about them... There is some description above them but i cant found out even with this help..

Cool - are you using DeJe's drivers?
http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/
Note - I have done / do this with my Sigmarion III (currently) and a Toshiba e7xx (past) - however both are USB and not serial.
I'd definitely be interested in how you did it too!

hi jmbneaf - sorry a bit off topic;

ntabikha & iggy - mine doesn't have that bulky external battery thing ... :?
The guys at Pocket PC Techs did the upgrade 8) - physically added another 32 Mb of SD RAM to the motherboard and then changed out the internal battery for a bigger better more efficient one. So, I have 64Mb of usable RAM, same 32 Mb ROM + a 1800 mAh battery (stock battery is a 1500 mAh with less efficient charging). I go about 1.5-2 days between charges depending on my usage habits.
So to the naked eye mine appears stock, but is anything but. Check out the upgrades here: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/Services.asp?type=TMOB
Tell Mr Wesson and the guys I referred you to them - you'll be glad you did.

If you look carefully you should see that the discussion is about the XDA1/Qtek1010/SX56 or whatever they call it. Not the XDA2. Hence no bluetoth.

[Q] Overcome 10.1 Series v2.3.0 problems while charging...

Hello gyus, got a problem with Overcome 10.1 Series v2.3.0. While im charging my tab (P7510) the tab goes crazy. For example i touch e or another key on the keyboard, the tab recognizes b (example) or another part of the screen. As i already said this problem only comes up while charging, while im not charging it, this problem doesnt appear.
BTW, i'm using Pershoots Kernel.
Do you know how to solve this problem, does this problem also appear on your tab, or is this problem known?
Greetings
I don't use the ROM personally, but I think the guys in the thread for this ROM would have welcomed the question there. Could also be Pershoots kernel so just as well you posted this here. hopefully someone will get here with the knowledge needed to help.
If you can read this it was sent using my GT-P7510.
Are you using another cable? One that isn't Samsung?
I use the original cable. And, i would have posted in the thread but i don't have enough posts to post in the developer part of the board.

I just kinda realized this used to happen when I had wet hands/sweaty hands on the Galaxy S, when I typed via the keyboard, it tends to read another part of the keyboard and presses another key based on last area touched.
Do you ever get grounded when touching the metal parts like volume keys? Ever tried USB charging and seeing if it happens there too?
Will try to charge my tab on the PC next time. Ill keep you up to date.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Edit: in the options USB charging is disabled. Don't know what the problem is...

[Q] Still no HDMI output using the HTC MHL adapter

Hello everyone.
This has been driving me crazy all day long.
I tried connecting the HTC AC M500 MHL adapter with my rooted Jestream to a TV using all sorts of tutorials and how-tos online, but to no avail.
The charger I am using is the HTC 9V, 1.67A one that's used for the Flyer.
The only things I have not tried yet are restoring factory settings, and using the HDMI capble that came with the MHL adapter.
I have tried connecting it to a Samsung 42" TV (model unknown) using a PS3 cable up to now.
Will attempt on a Sony 46" TV using the HDMI cable that came with the adapter on Monday, but until then, I just have to know what I've been doing wrong all this time.
I've been looking through forums, articles and YouTube videos all day long. It's driving me crazy.
Anyone have any ideas?
UPDATE: tried it on a Sony TV using the HTC HDMI cable with the MHL adapter while charging. Rebooted twice. Still nothing.
2nd UPDATE: tried turning HDMI control off on the Samsung TV (HDMI CEC). Still nothing.
Can anyone guess if unrooting the device and restoring factory settings would fix this?
have you tried putting the stock kernel back on? might be an issue with the doom kernel if that is what you are using.

No, but it's last on my list on things to try (that, along with the factory reset).
I will try using Airplane Mode ON, Media Sync ON as the default connection mode and USB Debugging OFF (I don't know why that's on my list, but there you go), before I try replacing the kernel.
Also, as far as the kernel's concerned: I checked on the kernel version and it seems to be the same as the stock kernel number and all. Was there an update on the doom kernel, or did I mess up the process and not install it properly?
Kernel version:
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
Well, I tried the above and still nothing. Kernel replacement's up next (assuming I don't have the stock one on already. Anyone care to confirm?), and factory reset as the last resort.
Could anyone tell me if I have the stock kernel installed?
Kernel version:
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
I am really inexperienced at this, and even though I tried flashing the Doom kernel when rooting, I don't know if I did it properly.
I've noticed in other threads that the Doom kernel is listed differently in the system settings.
I'd like to know if I do have to flash the stock kernel (unless I already have it) to test out the MHL adapter, which I still haven't managed getting it to work.
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

yes, i have the same kernel (stock jetstream), but instead g01487c4 i have g4612ecf
i can only advice you few things:
at-first, check mhl on other device to be sure it works
at-second, try to use 5v htc charger (i think it may cause problems with mhl)
at-last, try to buy cheap 5$ mhl on ebay or any chinese web-sites (i'm waiting for such thing now)

Thanks for replying! I had given up hope.
I'll see what I can try about checking the MHL on another device.
As for the second advice, I've tried both chargers. They seem to send power fine, but MHL doesn't work.
And as for the 3rd, yeah, I guess I could try that.
Q: can I use CWM to backup the system, change the kernel, and eventually change back using the CWM if the stock kernel doesn't work either? Or would I have to go through the process of changing the kernel again?
Thanks for all the advice!

cwm will backup hole system, so you can easily return to your backup from recovery
try stock rom or just stock kernel, if you are using custom kernel it may brings big changes to OS
i have received my 5 usd mhl and it works perfectly with stock kernel and doomlord kernel as well
but only one thing that killed me is that output resolution is just 720p
so, i have a question: what resolution does oem htc ext microusb mhl have?

when you connect it to the tv the resolution must appear in the corner.
it can be 720p, 720i, 1080p, 1080i

Ah, OK. I won't know till it actually connects, then. All I get now is "no signal".
Will know by the end of the week, hopefully.
Well, I changed back to the original kernel, and still there's no signal when connecting to the TV. A friend of mine has an HTC One X, so I'll test it on her phone when we next meet up.
If that doesn't work either, then I'll have to get another MHL adapter, but as you can tell from my really slow follow-up-ing on this, I kinda lost interest by now. :S
Could someone with working HDMI output through the MHL adapter paste the contents of their build.prop file here, please?

The setup is a simple "Plug n Play" solution using the HTC AC M500 12pin MHL HDMI Adaptor, with a standard Type-A HDMI cable. No power source was required.
Make sure the TV (I used a RCA 42"HDTV) is properly configured (i.e. Source > HDMI) to receive the signal.
In terms of the reception, the output was measured at HD 1080p with awesome HD Sound.

MHL not working - any ideas?

Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible

If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
