[Q] antenna and frequency issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a big problem with my cellphone.
i bought a galaxy s2 i9100 "new" at ebay, but my surprise was when i received it, it looks like refurbished.
so, i put a sim card of a company thats works on 850 mhz (3G and 2g) , but i can not do a call or send a message (even when the network bar is full o almost full) . Few seconds after i put the sim card, appears a message and says "fails, check service and try again". the sim card does work in other devices without a problem. I also tried with other sim card of a different company thats works on 1900 mhz and it works perfectly.( when i tried to call with the first sim card there is a message that say emergency calls only and no registered on network) ( my contacts on the first sim card appears correctly)
my cellphone has 4.1.2 jelly bean firmware ( it is not root). and i have installed many differents modems and diferents firmwares and the problem continues. i also tried to select 850 mhz band on "band selection menu" (i think is *#2263# code) but the problem continues. when i click on "search network" on the network operator menu the 850 mhz operator (called TIGO, i live in HONDURAS) doesnt appears. also i have seen something weird on my cellphone, many of the secret code doesnt work. for example *#7465625# ( so, i can not see the network lock status, but i am sure that my cellphone is unlock because when i installed the app GalaSim Unlock, it said "network lock: unlocked") ( also i should say that my cellphone never ask for a network unlock code)
another thing, if I place my sim card ( the one that work on 850 mhz) and then i choose "850 mhz band only" on band selection menu and then i click on "search network available" on network operator menu a sign appears on the top of the screen, is like a circle with a diagonal line through it , like a prohibition sign . ( Ø ) and the emergency calls only message appears
i went to a tecnical service and they said that maybe is the antenna, is that possible? what can i do?
Thanks

does anyone has a solution?

Have you checked your imei? If it starts with a 0, that's where your troubles are coming from. Don't post the imei here. If it has the generic imei, return the phone.

hello, i checked my imei and it doesnt start with a 0. i have wondered if a have a fake device or if my cellphone has a hardware problem. when i tried to check some secret codes ( for example *#7465625# ) they dont work. there is something weird, the location of the sd card slot is below of the sim card

First take the battery & back off the phone and post a photo, making sure to cover the imei. Don't post imei.
Also download some benchmarking apps, quadrant and antutu. Run them and post what scores you get here. If it's fake, chances are you'll have garbage scores.
Also take some photos with the rear camera, and you should get really nice photos if 8MP camera is real like on s2.

My GF insist that i need to go to her network to call me for free... Help please... She's driving me crazy
Cheers
Nazeroth: I use the same kind of thing in my magician. Cost about GBP4 + p&p so was a bit cheaper (ebay)
SAT is actually called STK. I think they made a mistake. I think almost all modern phones support the Sim Tool Kit.
V
U where right thanks
It is indeed STK they made a mistake, found one on ebay france for 1 euro + S&H = 2 euros...
Works perfectly
Thanks...
Just a thought ... it takes ages to change lines...
How long? Takes me about 15 secs or so.
I use PhoneAlarm: I set up a flight profile and a normal one, and can launch them with claunch, so I can flick between operators with my big thumb...

does this twin SIM require the cutting of SIM cards?
Is there any adapter that dont require you to cut the SIM cards?
Is there any dual sim compatible with BA?

I use 12in1 SIM-Max sucessfully on my BA.
It uses the STK Function to Switch between of the BA sucesfully.
You get a USB-Card reader/writer and a empty 12-in-1-SIM-Card. You "read-out" the original SIM-Cards with the USB-Reader to your Hard-Drive (Takes about 8 hours) where they are stored as a File. Than you choose up to 12 of those Files and write them to the 12-in-1 SIM Card (takes Minutes).
Big Advantage:
1. No cutting of your original SIM
2. You can make as many copies of your SIM as you want.
3. If you have no SIM-PIN enabled, you can even auto-switch like every x minutes from one SIM to the other
Be careful:
If you have PIN-Code on Power-On enabled on your SIM-Card when you "read-out" it will be also in the File on your Hard-Disk. I recommend that all SIM's you want to combine have the same PIN enabled to not lock it by accident.
There are two Downsides:
1. Sometimes after the successful Switching it will not exit the STK Function: That means you can continue to work without any problems on your BA but just can't switch again until you reboot.
2. It works with most BUT not all SIM-Cards. You only find out after you tried it :-(
i.E. I successfully combined:
- Swisscom (Switzerland)
- Orange (Switzerland)
- Sunrise (Switzerland)
- Sunrise Prepaid (Switzerland)
- T-Mobile (USA)
I could NOT read out OrangeClick (Special Prepaid Service of Orange Switzerland).

to do this, you must clone your original sim card! some sim card can't be cloned because they are "comp128-V2 or comp128-V3". some operator have this card, and other don't. inform you about your sim! if your sim is older than 2002, you don't have any problem( he isn't comp128-V2 or V3)
if your sim is youngest than 2002, he may be cloned.....
 Another Atention to everyone who want to clone a sim card:
if your are gonna try to clone a sim card comp128-V2 or V3, you can destroy him. take care!!!!
Sorry for my bad english!!!

Ok first you have give it time between posts...asking for assistance or info...you have give it time to get your issue's addressed...XDA is a world wide community...
have you taken it to your carrier to see if they can put in on the network,
you prob have to get you imei set with the carrier what carrier are you using, say verizon on your profile is this what you are using?
I had to do this with my carrier on a different phone, call them or go by the carrier store...
you said when you unlock it, it wont connect to att...is an att note...why you unlock it for an att sim? or am i not reading it right?
Thanks for the reply... I have spent so much time looking for a solution online and nothing... well I unlocked it for t-mobile first and got network unlock successful. Then that stupid circle stayed and never gave me signal. Now I dont care what carrier its on I just want it working but not even its original carrier will work (ATT). I called cellunlocker.net and they said to call att. i called att and they blew me off as well. I called att and they said its not unlockable?? what the heck does that mean?? its a gsm phone!! So now im stuck with no signal ever since i entered the unlock code.

I was having same issues my apn came up with cingular. Ive never had them so im playing with those settings now...we will see if this helps

Cingular APN is OK. But you need to call at&t store and ask them to reprovision your sim so you can use LTE/4g network (if it's available).
When they change that (it doesn't change your rate plan) your APN will change to PTA.

When you unlock its a permanent change in your phone that let's you use any GSM carrier sim card.
You have to flash a modem compatible with the network. That is your base and number. For at&t the current modem is ULCF5, and its good for all North America, except T-Mobile, Wind(Canada).

No service- T mobile - I9300-GT (Tinji)

I am trying to get a Tinji i9300-GT to have service on T-Mobile USA. From what I have read and found in the EngineerMode my phone only gets 850 MHz GSM signal, which I am fine with. On Tmobile, an 850 MHz signal is 2g, and turns out that I am using other company’s towers at this signal. I am assuming that is why I do not have signal. Could someone please help me to clarify if this is a modem/band issue, Chinese phone issue, whatever the case may be. I have no signal, no service, my sim card is recognized by the phone, I have tried numerous rom versions, and I am on my last hope of a 2 week battle with this phone.
Here is the specs on my phone:

First, that phone is not a real GSIII. With that out of the way, T-Mobile requires 1700Mhz for 3G, which your phone does not have. If the info on Alibaba is correct, your phone should support 2100Mhz, which is what AT&T operates on. Even my real GT-I9300 does not work on T-Mobile USA for high speed data.
100% agree as per previous posts you do not have A Samsung SGS3 .
Details given are not for a Samsung phone .
This is a MediaTek phone

Looks like the knock-offs have root & CWM ability http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178
I also need some claification. I have a Samsung i9300 International version (yes it is) and I would like to know If I used a usa TMO Modem, whill the i9300 accept it and will have now have service.
My works find on Edge, but no 3g or 4g.....manybe I just bought me a POS!!!!!
I really hope that a developer can make the TMO USA Modem files work in the i9300. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.
Ciao~

[Q] My One never connects to LTE while my wife's S4 connects fine

Hi everyone,
I have a prepaid plan on my T-Mobile One PN07130, updated to 4.4.2 last night as well. It will not connect to LTE, only up to UMTS/H+. My wife's S4 right next to it is connected to LTE with no problem.
The network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, my APN is identical to my wife's S4.
Any idea what it might be?
Thanks!
Take out SIM card and put it back in and restart the phone. If that doesn't work you can do a factory data reset.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The only thing i can think of is APN settings.
Double check them and make sure its exact.
I once made a mistake of putting fast-t_mobile.com and another time put fast.t_moble.com
Thanks guys for the input but I've tried these as well as verified settings.
What I did find different is that her S4 has the network modes listed as LTE/WCDMA/GSM while my One is listing GSM/WCDMA/LTE. Does it mean LTE is used last?
I think I'll just stop by a T-Mo store and see if they can figure it out.
If I have any findings I'll report back.
Mine is listed the same way.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The order they are listed doesnt have anyhting to do with priority.
LTE will always be given higher priority, then WCDMA then GSM.
Your wifes phone is a Samsung phone so they list them differently.. but the priorities are the same.
I see. Mine was activated fresh while my wife's S4 was activated by porting her number from Verizon. I wonder if she has some kind of provisions on her account that I don't have, therefore she gets LTE while I don't...
I'm hoping to get to a T-Mo store today and get this sorted out.
have you tried calling T-Mobile?
Ha, so I went to a local T-Mo store, the guy looked at the phone, rebooted, checked APN and all other mobile settings. He said all looks good, but no LTE.
He said, lemme go to the back and get a new SIM card. He scanned it into the system, put it in, and BAM! LTE right away!
The SIM I had in there, I purchased directly from T-Mobile, so was my wife's SIM. He said the SIM apparently wasn't capable of LTE... Never heard of such thing.
Anyway, I'm a happy camper now
Thanks all for the suggestions!
Glad its working. Probably a glitch in the system during initial set up. Now that the rep replaced your SIM the system reset its self and all is good..

Samsung Tab S6 wifi variant might have lte

When I pulled out the sim tray for sd card noticed the other side had spot for sim tray filled in. I popped out plastic part and noticed SMS function is disabled. Me thinks once the LTE variant comes out we're could flash that software on the wifi variant and cellular might work.
yeah noticed that too, it seems to have the sim card reader circuit on the inside of the tablet so yeah might be a free upgrade down the line
Yeah kinda excited for that.
You will brick phone.
Why is that? I'm flashing the same software on the same device.
Even if you could flash the LTE enabled firmware on the wifi Tab S6, it won't enable LTE. There's no IMEI assigned to the SIM slot (which I doubt there even is a SIM slot.
You mentioned that SMS function is disabled. I may know why.
I have a Galaxy Note 10+ through T-Mobile and I was able to enable the "Call and Text on other devices" feature through the Advanced Features section of the settings on both the phone and tablet. I can now get SMS and Phone calls through my tablet, as long as the Tab S6 is connected to WiFi.
I do hope that the tablet can be LTE enabled in the long run but I think for now this is just a feature to share phone capabilities with your actual phone.

Yeah who knows i know with the one plus 7 pro snd 6t you could flash the interntional software and put a dual sim tray in the phone with the tmobile variants and it will do dual sim so hopefully it can be like that lol either way is whatever but that would be a cool added feature
I would love this, My tab is coming today, but EXTREMELY unlikely as that would mean they lied to the FCC and have the LTE baseband radios
Assuming it has a cellular radio, in addition to not having the s/w to support data or dialing, it doesn't have an antenna. While you may be able to insert a nano SIM in the card tray that doesn't mean there's anything in the tablet to read it.
Unlocked cellular tabs are XX5 and the carrier versions are XX7 while the Wi-Fi versions are XX0. You cannot flash a ROM that's not for your specified model number and this isn't new, it's always been that way. People have gotten Wi-Fi-only ROMs to work on cellular Tabs but it blew away all the cellular features. People have driven themselves nuts over time trying to activate the dialer and MMS on a XX7 by flashing XX5 s/w and no one's been successful. But many tablets got bricked trying. And both of those devices had an active cellular radio with all the correct supporting h/w. Do a search on XDA or browse older generation Tab forums to learn more.

Crazy thinking this would work. Best is to get an LTE version if you really need it ?
Seriously, this non story has been doing the rounds since at least the Galaxy S4 phone.
Samsung DO NOT build the modems into non LTE devices, however for manufacturing simplicity and spare parts reasons use the same combo Micro SD SIM adapter.
Anyone who believes this will work can I perhaps interest you in my private shares in the London Bridge Holding Company that I might be wiling to sell.
can anyone who has the T865/LTE model confirm that it includes the Samsung Phone app and you can place/receive calls with the T865 model? I have Tab S4 LTE that i use for work in the field and having the phone part of the tablet is a must for me. thanks to anyone who can reply to my question.

@vogemic-thank you sir. :good:
I have Verizon, i bought a samsung tabs6 (WIFI only from BestBuy). I read about two hours ago about being able to do Samsumg calling and texting using my samsung account on my verizon connected Note 10 plus , I enabled it and it works flawlessly, it uses my Note 10 plus remotely to make calls, however!, before all this i had downloaded My Verizon messeges app from the play store and i did the pairing barcode so i can get text on my tab s6 from my verizon phone number, it worked but no calls on my verizon messages app, "until" i enabled Samsung calling and text! the next time i opened my verizon messages i got a pop alerting me that i could now CALL from my verizon messages app so i enabled it. I tried calling right after and it worked!! i do not see the remote calling notification on my Note 10 plus when using the verizon messaging app.
#1. I work for Verizon retail but as far as my understanding a tablet must have a designated phone number with verizon (1×/3g/4g) to be able to receive text from the verizon network thru my verizon messaging app. The tablet was able to receive messages to my surprise. Although it did let me somewhat select the call option in my verizon messages it didnt work for calling at 1st.
2. Enabling Samsung calling and texting gives the tablet a "Voip" phone number? Is it my carrier number? Without an IMEI ID or SIM ID? And lets me call from a messaging app using my carrier phone #? ??
3. That was sick!! And if it helps anyone please dont thank me. ?
Wrong post.
