Might be hardware problem. Go to some shop that really does repair hardware and check your device.

Hi,
did you try cleaning the sim card with a dry cloth? also try cleaning the simm slot with a clean, dry brush (paintbrush, toothbrush) that does not have any lint/ garbage in it.

did you find out what the technician fixed? was it hardware or software?
I fix This Problem free
First of all without sim call ememgency number 112
if during the cell shutdown change the bettry.
then change setting.
I had the same problem too. This worked for me:
1.Open your phone without sim
2a(Ice cream Sandwich):Then Go to the settings->more->mobile networks->Network mode or 2b(Gingerbread) Settings>Wireless and networks>Mobile networks>Network Mode
3:And change network mode to WCDMA only(this worked for me).
4:Insert your Sim and restart your phone
If "WCDMA only" doesn't work you can try "GSM" only.
Old thread but I hope someone else gets helped by this.

I get this sometimes if my phone gets too hot for some reason. If I power off the phone and give it a chance to cool down, it works when I turn it back on.

warranty. If you've done nothing to the phone at the time it broke, changing sim card, and cleaning the contact points do nothing.
Shes broke.
I spoke with ATT warranty center and they are saying if your phone is not able to read sim card it's not covered by warranty.
Not sure what to do now.

EDIT:
I'm on ICS 4.0.3 , trying to get the phone back to stock by using this method , will there be any problem ?

Yes and I didn't see whether he had gotten a new SIM card or not. Now that I know he has, I suggest he get someone else on the phone or try to go into a store and have them verify it's the device.

The fact that it is a H/W defect on the phone. at&t should cover it. Thats bull**** if they dont. at&t would send you a new phone, and when you get that one you'd send your broke one in. samsung your out a phone for longer.
I'd be calling a manager at customer support in the warranty section. but Im an asshole, and if i pay good money for something, I tend to get my way when a device has issues that are not my doing.
Good luck man.

Did you back up your efs? Check your imei and see if it is correct. Try flashing to a stock through Odin.

Yes I have the correct IMEI.
I do not know the exact stock rom. Could I know it by the IMEI? The phone from SFR France.

Any stock rom should do. And also try to use another SIM card. Your phone may also be network locked. Download galaxsim from play store and check the lock status.

I checked with *#7465625# and it says network lock off. all off.
Does it mean the phone is unlocked. In fact, I tried several stock roms no help. last one is I9300XXBLG6.
Yeah your phone is unlocked. Remove your sd card if you have one. Check your mobile network settings. Different network sims or different Sims but the same network?

I did what you told me. Nothing new. When I click on Setting/Mobile Network/Network operators/Search network, (Searching) flashes for moment and stops with nothing.

Where did you get the phone from?
Samsung Service center is your only option, take the phone box and proof of purchase if you have it.
But run triangle away and go back to the stock rom that you got with the phone

This may be a problem with your SIM reader. If you still have a valid warranty, then send it to Service centre.
If not, then we can try few things first before trying hardware repair.
