Has anyone figured out a way to disable the advertisements that show on the bottom in most every app ?
So many are complaining about lag and I (for one) think it has to do with these stupid google advertisements.
Advanced task killer seems to stop them for a few minutes.....but I can't seem to grasp what is feeding them ?!?
Thats how some people make money... But if you must, there is an app called adfree android.... Must have root...

Please do not disable ads as a developer that keeps most of his apps free I really entirely on ads for any thing back.

Usually you can pick up the paid version of the app, which doesn't have ads.

Just install adfree and be done.

As a consumer, please don't play this bs pity game about your decision to make your app less useful by covering a portion of the screen with ads to make money off us.

wrong section of the forums, this isn't "development"
but yes, AdFree is the thing that you're looking for.. most apps have a DONATE version which will remove the ad
Exactly, I just wanted to end the thread
You can afford a $500 phone, why not pay $ for an app you obviously like and find useful? Its especially insulting to ask for an easy way to screw the developers in a development forum... Try asking in general when you have questions.

Wrong thread.
Here is the classic argument, I believe consumers should have the right to privacy and there are apps out there with risky permissions and adwares that can read your contacts and sms while it is a simply an 'offline' game. I do buy many apps and donate sometimes. I use a phone because it's my personal devices, I customize it how I want. To the dev who blame AdFree for 'losing' money, too bad. Create a good program, charge for it and remove your adwares for the paid version. Or a non euphemistic way of putting it: maybe if you made a non-s***** app without those adwares and not running in the background slowing down my phone maybe I would consider paying or donating, its free market capitalism, not welfare.
Also there are even purchased apps that come with adwares and sometime there is no paid option. I do understand Google list the permission before you download the app and since it's free its my choice if I want to download it or not, fine, but it is not always transparent for the consumer, for example apps do not list the type of adwares installed. Until the Congress say it's illegal to use ads blocking I will continue to use it.

ads is everywhere, I got a headache when watching this ads.
Make sure to download the newest version if it via either Google play store or their website. They recently moved locations.
As for aware there exists an app that customizes that permissions an app installed on Android may have. You can use that to create a custom install for, say Angry birds, where it no longer allows it access to location or to the Internet which would defeat aware that tracts you or downloads new "harmful" features.
I cannot remember the name of the app offhand. If someone could help I would appreciate it.

funny. I was unaware of the difference.
wonder why my stick figure comics page comes up from bing sometimes?
low stats and I never submitted it anywhere but google and Yahoo.
If you can get over the fact that it comes from Microsoft, the Bing app for Android is actually a pretty good app.
Here's a review of it: http://www.androidcentral.com/bings-android-app-redesigned-brings-bit-metro-it
I use the maps piece of it as I find the traffic overlays are more accurate than Google maps traffic.
The issue from the other thread (which unfortunately escalated into a shouting match) is that the latest version of the Bing app has something going on whereby the market thinks it is not compatible with 2.3 roms (I've tried both IHO and asop) and you cannot download bing if you are running one of these roms. If, however, you download Bing using a 2.2 rom and then restore it to a 2.3 using Titanium or another backup program, the program runs fine.
I don't have many more details than this. If you want to help debug and solve this probem, please post! If you are not interested, please let us work on this without snide comments about "why would you want to use bing?"
And please, do not post in the IHO thread. All Bing discussion should remain here.
Only bing I care about are cherries and Crosby.

Afraid i'm little help.
I rarely to never use the market... haven't flashed gapps in over a month (never yet on iho)
I always search out app downloads on the interweb instead of using market.
if you try 4shared.com you might be able to get a current version of the bing app.

Yahoo uses Bing's search results. If you submitted to Yahoo, it's also on Bing.
While it doesn't show up in the google market it does in fact show up in the Amazon app store. This seems to be either an m$ issue or a market issue. Not sure why everybody is so passionate about this as there appear to be multiple ways to install it all legit like.
Unfortunately, the version in the amazon app store is very old (version 1.02.530.20110404 which is from April.) The latest version in regular Android market is 2.0.546.20010811, released August 15)

As pointed out amazons app store as amazing as it is. It is lacking in updated apps. Partly because the approval process is a pain in the ass and partly because some devs stop messing with amazon because of the trouble to get updated apps pushed.
Another thing amazon app store doesnt check your phone to see if you can install the app all the time. Only if the dev has specifically done so upon uploading. I can download apps that will not work on my optimus from amazon and android market has it hidden from me.
There's noway that someone could just post the apk?
So i'm running IHO id have to flash like bumblebee or something? download bing, backup and then reflash iho??
Or just get it from Amazon
Sent from my LG-VM670 using xda premium
Ok but the one on amazon is an old version.
To me, the issue is not so much having someone post a copy of the apk (which is really a band-aid fix.) Rather, I'l like to harness the collective brain of this community to determine a root cause and see if we can find a fix or patch.
For example, is the issue caused by the market seeing O/S 2.3 and thinking it's not compatible?
Or, is it caused by the carrier ID code? (So, for example, can we use Market Enabler https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler&hl=en to work around the problem?)
What's wrong with Bing? its not like anyone uses it >.>
so i tried market enabler and i still wasn't able to see the bing app on the market. But i think that market enabler does not work with the latest version of the market. is anyone here on a 2.2 device? try to download bing please!
Hi
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. I don't think this is an issue specific to my phone model.
I have this really annoying issue. When I go into the Android Market (or Play Store) and I look at my apps it previously showed purchased apps but now it shows all the apps I've ever installed. If I want to install an app I purchased previously I have to search through all the hundreds of apps I have ever installed!
I've tried to find a resolution via Google but I keep getting results showing how to clear market search history.
Does anyone know what I'm referring to and know how to fix this? Like I said, previously before I upgraded to ICS the market only showed installed apps and purchased apps that I haven't installed, now it shows every app I have ever installed and it seems to include apps I installed on my android tablet!
Thanks
Lee

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Its an annoying idea. We should at least have the option to turn it off. If I try an app and don't like it I uninstall it, why would I want to constantly see an app that I don't want! Haha.
I like Android because, among other things, it isn't iOS.
Thanks

In my effort of customizing my first Android, I got to the point where the default lockscreen (useful, but somewhat plain and simple) bored me. So I decided to find a new way to lock and unlock my phone and found that the application named Go Locker, was quite a nice option for this chore.
IMPORTANT: You need to have installed the "Go Launcher" app in order to have the "Go Locker". I recommend this launcher which makes tons of free sleek themes available for your phone. You cand search for this app at the Play Store.
Unfortunately, when you try to download Go Locker from the Play Store, a warning is displayed that this app is not compatible with your phone (I would like to see on the Play Store the explanation of why some apps aren´t compatible with our phones).
Fortunately, you can install the Go Locker.apk (attached) and it will work as charm. Just download the file, save it in your favorite phone´s memory, open the file through any file manager, and presto! Once installed, hundreds of "locker" themes will become available in Play Store or right directly from the "Go Store".
Have a nice day!

Well, there are options in the market for the preferences of everyone.
Personally, I´ve tested another lock app called Magic Locker, and while it offered nice looking themes and options, it was very laggy and it seemed to consume a lot of RAM from my phone.
In the other hand, Go Locker runs smoothly in my s5360, barely affecting my phone´s memory, and I like that this app offers a great amount of options to customize your lock screen.
and what we should say that now?

If the thread is useful for you, then a "thank you" will be enough.
Also, anyone can post tips and theme recommendations while using Go Locker, or maybe a new and better app that uses less resources from the Galaxy Y.
If anyone has a problem installing this app, people could also post their questions in this thread so we can help them.
Thats why we are here right?

No, but there are alternative markets like cydia
It is not necessary, as our devices allow side loading applications.

You can just download apps from exterInal sources only allowing it when you install one...
There is no need for this. And I sure hope your not talking about getting paid apps for free

Guys... as much as you know about rooting, I can say you have absolutely NO idea what jailbreak and Cydia is...
Cydia is like a one stop shop for everything jailbreak, it has themes, mods, hacks, and jailbreak only apps. It is NOT a place to sideload apps.
However, since Cydia is the only source of all things jailbreak, they do happen to have a (pretty popular) JB app called Installous which is pretty a shortcut for many apps on the app store (including paid).
But aside from that, Android probably won't have a universal Cydia like application thanks to diversity, different Android versions, AOSP/AOKP, manufacterer skins, and the list goes on. I believe Cyanogenmod was planning on releasing a root only app store, but even then it would not contain theming, mods, hacks like cydia does.

Also Google Play isn't as strict as the iOS App Store so some apps that are forced to go to Cydia on iOS would be able to list in Google Play if they made the same software for Android. The individual device customization stuff is hard to do since there are so many different devices. Hopefully someday Google adds a way to customize colors, fonts, etc to stock android.

Just because we have Androids doesn't mean we're limited from iOS, I know exactly what cydia is. A one stop shop for mods, tweaks, and apps that normally wouldn't be on the App Store. Sounds like the XDA forums to me actually as I describe it.
