[Q] Verizon 4.3 GE Kernel? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Based on this thread here I believe I can flash this I-9505 4.3 GE Rom here. My concern is that based on the first link and flashing I9505 roms, I also need a Kernel. Does anyone have a 4.3 Verizon GE Kernel that is available? I'm guessing the 4.2.2 Kernel we have won't work. Thanks!

There is no such animal. Also, you may want to do some more fact checking- it's not quite as simple or easy as that thread makes it seem.

That "guide" for Verizon should have never been posted. It made everyone think that's all you needed to do. It's locked now in the Verizon section but clearly the confusion it's caused is going to be lasting. It wouldn't have been so bad if when the inaccuracies were pointed out that they be addressed.
To answer your question I've made 6 different Verizon GE 4.3 kernels that all boot up fine. None are posted because there isn't a vzw 4.3ge ROM. Until there is there is no need for the kernel by the average user because the ROM will still be unusable even with the vzw kernel.
If you still want to try your hand at it you'll need to make a boot.img. To make the boot.img you need an AOSP 4.2.2 zImage with a GE 4.3 ramdisk. Compile that and use the drivers from the 4.2.2's kernel in the zip you build to flash.

Very well. Thought this might be an easy fun weekend project but apparently its not. I will wait on a ported GE 4.3 ROM to pop up. I'm in no hurry.

[Q] Installed AOSP 4.3 to Verizon SCH-i545

Well, I think I downloaded the wrong rom and flashed the wrong file. Here is what I downloaded and flashed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348272
For whatever reason, I thought it would work. In my brilliance, I didn't perform a backup. I still have access to TWRP, so what do I do? Also, does 4.3 exist for the Verizon flavor that is Google Play edition?
Thats for the i9505 international version. Theres some 4.3 ports in the dev section. Since you didnt make a backup of stock youll have to odin back to stock and start over. All the odin images are in the dev section as well.

Did you think it would work because of the "guide" on how to run other carrier's ROMs?
And no one else I know is working on Google Edition 4.3. Mine's not done yet and I've been to focused on 4.2.2's build recently. I'll get back to it eventually.
As far as a fix:
Install another ROM. If you are desperate for SOMETHING 4.3, then install cyanogenmod 10.2(either of the 2 unofficial builds)

Thanks gents. The only reason I'm itching for 4.3 is access to Bluetooth LE for my Fitbit. I used Cyanogenmod for a minute on 4.2 and it was amazing, but BT LE brought me back to stock. It lately started doing that Google Services using 70%+ of the battery, so I started hunting for a 4.3 rom.. in the wrong forum. WOOPS.
I'll probably go back stock until I can get 4.3 rom that has everything working.

Kernel issues after 4.3 Knox trip

Happy Monday folks. I've got a question for all you smart pplz.
I got my device . Immediately updated to MJ4 and rooted and tripped KNOX....which I don't really care about...
However, when ever I try and flash a ROM with a Kernel that is not "stock" it will go into bootloops. If I let it sit for maybe 5 mins it will eventually boot...sometimes.
So, every time I flash a rom I'm having to flash a stock based kernel along with it. I've been using the stock TW kernel to flash along with jellybomb.
My only deal is, once we have AOSP..whether it's 10.2 or cm11... how will that work since the kernel will be different. Or is there a way to get the custom kernels to work. Primarily the beast mode kernel lol.
Any info will be much appreciated. If I have overlooked some of this information on the threads my apologies in advance.
Currently on Jellybomb.
Running latest TWRP. If that helps.

I did the same things you have done and have not had any problems even with Beast 1.8 OCd to 2.726. I am on Minin3 4.1 however, I don't know if that makes a difference.
Freeza is working on some issues for others. You might want to post in his Kernel thread in the Development section.
Good luck.
Not every phone will like his kernel. Mine doesn't because he has L2 too high for my obviously crappy device.
anytime I try a rom with his kernel, I'll have a bad day.
After you flash his rom, try flashing a stock kernel and see if your issues go away. If so, well, welcome to my world.
Got it to work. I was having to use a stock kernel. But I noticed I was not flashing the same way the OP was. So I flashed with ..
Wipe.....reboot recovery....do not flash su....flash rom. Viola. Now on Minin3 4 . Beast Mode!. Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it. Problem solved

Any other NON-TW ROMs available for ME7 SS other than Eclipse GE and GPE

2 questions. I've been searching but can't seem to get a clear answer. From what I understand only TW based ROMs work with ME7 Safe Strapped S4. But there are two ROMs that AFAIK are non-TW based. Those are Eclipse GE and the GPE.
First question is, are there any other non-TW ROMs that work?
2nd question is, how do those two ROMs work if they aren't TW based? What would it take for say LiquidSmooth 2.37 to work with an ME7 Safe Strapped S4?
Thank you.
Eclipse is tw based on me7 build...considered "stock" for safestrap...no asop or cm Roms/kernels work in safestrap
powered by hashcode safestrap hyperdrive 10.2

Specifically this ROM. It's based on the Google Edition of the phone. It is not running TouchWiz at all.
Try whatever you want on a ROM slot, if you do it under a ROM slot you don't have to worry about bricking, that's the "safe" part of safestrap. Running a true AOSP ROM such as LiquidSmooth would require kexec support for safestrap, which at this point probably isn't going to happen.

I believe Google edition ROMS are all TW based if I remember correctly. Or they use the TW kernels, which is why they should work with safestrap
edit: after doing some research you can only flash TW based ROMS that have same base firmware you have. Since you are ME7 you can only flash ME7 based TW ROMS. Hope this helps

So then, since Hash just released an Alpha of SafeStrap for MJ7, does that mean I will be able to use this rom if I were to update to MJ7?
The OP said that the older Eclipse GE ROM running on 4.2/ME7 worked, so does that mean this will work? I hope so. TouchWiz isn't the worst overlay to Android, but truth be told I'm getting tired of it. Locked bootloaders really suck.
I'm on ME7 Running HyperDrive through SS at the moment.
No you can't, put it to you this way; any rom that uses the stock tw kernel you can use with safestrap.

[Q] I'm still on 4.2.2 which came on the phone the day it was released...

Stock touchwiz and all, didn't flash any roms but I am rooted with unlocked bootloader. Any mod I've ever wanted, I was able to do through xposed or just flash some small file. My questions is, are there any benefits to changing roms? If so, what TW rom would you guys suggest?
ThaCh0de's CockNRom v9.2.3.1 with XBrickMyPhoneX kernel seems to do the trick for me

Woohoo! Don't loose that MDK bootloader! You're one of the lucky/smart ones that didn't take an OTA update.

Install or update TWRP with Goomanager if you're on an old recovery. Just click install openrecoveryscript, that easy.
Stock TW KitKat: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721118
There are lots of improvements in JB and KK, as well as a couple fixable "issues" (e.g. sd card).
You can sell it to me and then I will give you my phone, that would be the best thing for the world.
Definitely gonna keep my MDK bootloader. The funny thing that's making me want to change is the App to SD card feature in the updates.
I'll make the switch from CWM to TWRP and give stock TW KK a shot. Are there any GS5 ROMs for us? I feel so out of it lol.
I've been flashing since the OG Droid and had close to 10 rooted phones but after getting my GS4 and having everything working perfect(including the mods, I.e. WiFi Ap), I just left it

I'd use Flashify from the Play Store to update to a new recovery. Using Goo or ROM Manager can lead to possibly having to Odin back to stock and start fresh... Couldn't tell you exactly why but it's happened to a few of us including me.
Also... Go for a ROM like C ROM, Mahdi, or Liquid Smooth... Ditch TW

I too have MDK so.... :highfive:! I am running Hyperdrive RLS 15 and it runs flawless. Loads of extra features if you like that sort of stuff. I used the Ktoonz Kernel with it so it comes with the KTweaker App for complete control over the kernel. Loads of battery life. Its 4.3 but if you want 4.4 then wait about a week or so and Sbreen94 will have it released (atleast that is his current time frame).

Question about flashing a TW ROM

Hey guys, so I've been having issues getting a GPS lock since I flashed an AOSP ROM last week. One recommendation made to me is that I flash back to a TW ROM, get a GPS lock, and retry the AOSP GPE ROM I have come to love (pure vanilla android wins in my book). The options available with TW ROMs vary a lot, so I'm a bit afraid to flash the wrong one. I'm still on MDK firmware, and would prefer to leave it that way as it's about as unlocked as the GS4 gets. Would flashing a TW ROM necessitate that I find one that is explicitly MDK to avoid a firmware upgrade, or will a ROM not touch my firmware version like an OTA would? Sorry if I am asking a dumb question, but I'd appreciate the help!
