[Q] Hisense Sero 7 Pro HDMI issues - Hisense Sero 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I have tried HDMI out on 3 TVs and it only works on one. The one it works on is the newest one by a few years.
On the other TVs the results range depending oddly on the cable. A $30 Rocketfish cable I purchased for testing and now returned resulted in zero output on the other two TVs. My cheap cable will make some crackling noises and the screen will flicker on and off.
No output at all through my my receiver.
On the third TV... a 2012 model I believe, it works great. I have never had any issues with HDMI out on the other TVs although I only use an older laptop and a PS3.
Any clue what might be going on? Do I have a bad device or are my older TVs not compatible for some reason with the Tegra 3 HDMI out?
Thanks.

I finally got through to Hisense support. Major PITA as they disconnect you after a minute or so of hold time. Not like I expected anything different. Regardless they guy had no idea about any issues.
I'm going to go and buy another from Walmart and see if it has the same issue or not.

Went and bought another one to test the HDMI out with.
Same issue. So this tablet has problems with some TVs. Searching a bit further it seems like some android devices regardless of manufacturer have HDMI out compatibility issues.
Chromecast should hopefully solve this issue anyways.

Chromecast works great with this tab. Havent tried the hdmi yet.

I've seen some strangeness of a different type. When I plug my Sero 7 Pro in to one of my TVs with a particular cable, the touch screen starts acting funny, meaning a touch registers as a swipe and we'd things like that. Anyone else seeing weirdness like that?
Thanks!

HDMI issue
I am having an HDMI issue. For me, whenever I connect an HDMI cable to any HDTV and use Adobe PDF Reader while scrolling and zooming in I get all kinds of artifacts and glitches on the tv screen but not the screen of the tablet. I've used two different tvs and they both react in the same way. These jagged lines appear on the screen while zooming and scrolling but disappear right after i lift my finger off the digitizer. I haven't tried many other apps but it seems like its solely Adobe PDF Reader reacting this way. The few other apps I've tried do not react this way.
Would this be caused by...
The tablet itself?
The current software/os version?
The hdmi cable?
The tvs?
Model number: M470BSA
Android version: 4.2.1
Kernel version: 3.1.10
Build version: P756.6.02.11.00
I just bought the tablet a couple days ago and was notified of an update, P756.6.02.20.00. Should i go ahead and apply this update? or has anyone experienced this issue before and found a remedy? Any help regarding this minor but annoying issue would be greatly appreciated.

Different cables with less or more quality is not odd at all really.
I would not be surprised to find out that all your problems are from the cable you used and/or the tv you tried to use and not the tablet.

There are definitely issues with the Sero 7 Pro and older TV's via HDMI out. In my case, I'm lucky enough to get a picture on the screen, however it fails back down to 480p which is just unacceptable.
With that said, there is some hope. The issues that I am experiencing do not seem to be directly tied to a hardware problem, but rather software. Via rooting and trying a custom rom, that is not based off the stock rom, I was able to get a 720p picture on screen though there are other issues

I have a small, cheapo TV that causes problems with my touchscreen whenever I plug in the HDMI cable to my tablet. Plug it into my big Samsung TV and it works great! Weird, eh? The small TV causes the touchscreen to register taps as swipes..

The touchscreen being erratic happens on a few of my other older devices with HDMI & MHL connected too. It seems that most of these haven't been tested extensively in this mode. There's a ground connection problem, I remember it was better if I connect a charging cable also, or holding it slightly differently or setting it down when using the touchscreen & HDMI connected.

Erratic screen problems
I almost returned my tablet today. I have three of them and only one exhibited erratic behavior while using HDMI out.
The screen would barely respond to my touches. It would misread and select the wrong things. I couldn't play games or scroll the screens. A mouse would work but not touching the screen.
It turns out the erratic screen problem goes away if I turn off the Sony Playstation 3.
This time I tested it and it is repeatable. I had both the cables plugged into the TV next to each other so now I separated them.
Now that I think of it I remember seeing a video about a guy who thought he had screen problems but it was interference from a nearby computer.
I found the video I remembered of the guy who was having the same problem due to interference from his computer. He demonstrates the erratic screen behavior and says he returned his tablet twice thinking it was faulty.
I can't post the link...oh well. You'll have to look it up.

[Q] HDMI & ICS Question

I did a search here. I have the Prime and had great success from 12/28/11 until ICS update around 01/10/12 but since then my TV shows no signal and this lasts for several minutes so the TV has had time to communicate with the tablet.
1. I have done a Factory Reset
2. I have tried all 4 HDMI ports on the TV
3. I have tried a second TV
4. I have ordered and tried a second cable (stranger things have happened)
5. I have called Asus Customer Support
My options are of course RMA but that means no tablet for 10-14 business days or wait to see if and when an ICS update may correct this issue for me.
Am I just out of luck here and just need to give up my Prime for 2-3 weeks or do you think that an ICS update maybe on the horizon and may correct my issue?
I don't think it is an ICS issue. My conection between the prime and the tv works perfectly. BUT it does seem to take about 15 seconds before anything shoes up on the tv after I plug the cable into the prime.

Thanks for your reply. I just went back and edited my post to add that I leave it plugged in for longer than a couple of minutes. I even flip between HDMI channels using the TV remote while the Prime is plugged in. The TV just never sees it!

Did you double check with another HDMI cable? Some cables of lower quality do prevent the Prime and the TV from synchronizing.
I paid $39 for Rocketfish 8' micro HDMI cable from Best Buy yesterday and attached it to the available HDMI port on the back of my 25" I-Inc monitor. My Transformer Prime didn't see that I had the HDMI cable connected until after I shut it down and restarted it, only after doing that the bootup screen appeared on my monitor and Prime and when I logged in the Prime had the HDMI logo displayed on the tray.
The problem I'm experiencing now is stability. I get constant screen flickering from the monitor when I'm viewing the Prime through the HDMI connection. It seems like its software. I have no other devices to test this out on besides my monitor as the HDMI on my HDTV is only capable of receiving 1080i.
Another sign that it seems like software that's causing the flickering is that I notice considerable lag from the mousepad cursor using the Dock when my monitor is flickering from viewing the Prime over HDMI.

I haven't noticed any flickering but I have only watched real steel ones mine so far. Was a 1080p mkv file and I hooked it up through my receiver. The tv is 46" so I think I would have noticed. Have you tried other files? Oh, and I use a 6' cable is bought from monoprice for like $5

I get screen flickering (or better description screen blinking) immediately after connecting HDMI to it.
I can be just viewing the Prime's desktop not playing back any video and my Monitor displaying the Prime over HDMI will blink by going complete dark and it will continue to do this randomly and frequently.
When playing back video it continues to do this and not only is it losing the picture it's also losing audio in this screen blinking problem.
---------- Post added at 05:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:10 AM ----------
I just tried the HDMI input on my BenQ monitor and I get a stable connection, no blinking.
Only difference is that my BenQ monitor has no built-in speakers and it's not a 1080p monitor it's a 1680x1050 res monitor. So I'm getting an improper viewing aspect ratio.
Is there a way to turn off the audio from outputing through HDMI and keep it coming from the Prime?
Turns out my TFP works fine connected to my old Samsung 30" HDTV CRT over HDMI, I didn't try it at first because I thought the the TFP would try to output 1080p to the set which can only handle 1080i.
I'm surprised that it connected instantly to my HDTV, now I need to correct my TV's left and right fields in the service menu as it is zoomed too far in.
Does anyone know if the TFP have a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio? I'll have to keep this in mind when adjusting the settings cause I want to maintain a 16:9 setting on the HDTV.

Yes sir in my original post I state that I bought a 2nd cable. Also since it was working fine before ICS and with all the things I have tried in my post it is either ICS or the port on my Prime. Or yeah somehow I got 2 faulty cables and 1 of them worked great until the update!
No I just hope it is ICS for me.

Thanks, I tried shutting the Prime down and restarting while the HDMI cable was plugged into the TV but no dice for me.
My HDMI was working and I have watched several movies on my TV previously.
Fast forward a few weeks and HDMI no longer works! I bought a cheap cable on Amazon, and noticed the micro connection was very loose. The HDMI notification no longer shows up. I ordered a 'real' cable from mono price, but still no luck.
No picture and no HDMI notification - arrgh.
The TP HDMI connection seems very loose, even with the new cable. Looks like an RMA for me.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's not real loose but it does have wiggle room that I didn't notice before! I hate it because I'll be without it for 2-3 weeks and everything else with the tablet works great!

[bug] HDMI out to 2560x1440

So basically when I enable HDMI out to my 2560x1440 screen (u2711), the motorola logo displays just fine, but when I select a mode like gallery or mirror, the whole HDMI screen starts flickering and showing portions of the screen every couple of seconds.
The phone itself works just fine, and HDMI out with the same cable works fine on my HD ready TV. The HDMI port on my u2711 is fine as well, at least it works with my xbox 360 in 1080P without error.
The odd thing is, as soon as I enable Picture by Picture on my screen, the phone displays just fine on it's half of the screen, albeit in 640x480.
Is this a known bug, or does anyone have any suggestions on fixing it? Do I have to disable DDC/CI? My cable has ethernet capabilities, so the high res shouldn't be the problem, right? Or did I just buy a ****ty/faulty cable.
I don't think the phone is capable of rendering at a resolution that high, the gallery is in 3D-mode and it's probably running out of Vram..
Maybe force it to 1080p somehow?
I never got the HDMI cable working from my pc high end gfx card to my dell u3011 . Never tried from my Razr but I guess the same applies to it.
Only dual DVI and DisplayPort worked.
Without checking I think the highest res possible on hdmi is 1200p ?
I would always try a different cable before giving up. 9/10 times when I have seen flickering on an HD display it has been a crap/faulty cable, and I have seen it a lot as until recently I was Digital TV installer. Used to carry loads of spare cables in the van as it used to happen so often. You don't have to spend loads on a cable but the very cheapest are usually best steered clear of unless you're lucky. I'd usually go for a £10-£15 cable (15-20 EUR) and not a cheap ebay one.
Thanks for your advice guys!
The max res for 1.4 is 4096×2160, and for 1.3 it's 2560x1600, so my resolution should be fine I think.
I paid ~20 euros for the cable, it's brandless, but from a well known cable retailer here. I don't have any others to test, and compatibility with my u2711 isn't vital to me, so I'm not going to buy another cable, but I still think it's odd that it doesn't work.
I will report back if I find another cable and it makes a difference!

[Q] Viewsonic g tablet help SmoOth Bean 4.1.2 ver 1.5(Standard PlayStore) 160 DPI ROM

I bought a Viewsonic g tablet on sale a year and a half ago and until this day it meets the light. (It was only touched when purchased then back to the box)
I followed the instructions to the letter (new on this) and everything seems to be working, I have a Malata zpad dock DS-A002 supposed to be fully compatible with the g tablet and I placed the tablet on the dock, connected HDMI in the TV but nothing happens.
Don't see an option in settings to select output to TV.
Many thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention, tried this on the TV which is an LG and monitor which is a Hanns-G
I have to say that this is a first so far. When I read this I went ahead a connected up my dock which is the same make and model as yours to my TV and it works. HDMI is sometimes a pain especially with the newer TV's that are out. You also got to have the dock powered up if you haven't done that. If the power cord is connected and the tablet displays the dock clock then connect the HDMI to the dock with the TV turned off. After connection is made turn on the set and make sure you are on the proper input. It should work, but if not try a different TV.

Thanks for the reply
The LCD TV is a couple of years old, the LCD monitor is 3ish years old
My mother has a 5yr old LCD TV, that's another TV I could test on
The dock is powered up using the charger that came with the gTab
The tablet displays the dock clock when placed on the dock
I've tried different combinations:
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock, turn TV on
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on, turn TV on when gtab is on the dock clock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on
TV detects HDMI when the gtab is placed on the dock, but after 3-5 secs says no signal meaning it does detect HDMI (shows up as an option, I've tried on all 3 HDMI inputs btw) but it doesn't show up an image.
I've tried these methods in the TV and the monitor, nothing
Doesn't make sense to me since everyone in the thread hasn't had this issue, should be plug-and-play right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900562
Should I backup the current install and go back to the stock crappy ROM just to test it out? (Wipe everything as instructed before doing so?)
Thanks
No since in going all the way back to stock to test it out. Have you by chance tried a different HDMI cable. You might have a faulty connection or even a dirty connection will make it loose its connection. You may also want to check to see if the TV has a default native setting set. The gtablet will display a image like a PC I believe. Will have to connect it up again to see what res. the device puts out at default.
Alright find the link up solution. I tried different ways of connection all with failure to display on my TV with the exception of this. Try it and you will be satisfied.
1st. Place you dock near your TV with power cord and HDMI cable both connected. Don't connect other end of HDMI cable to TV just yet.
2nd. Have tablet turned on and fully booted up. Then place tablet on dock and leave the dock clock displayed.
3rd. Turn on TV and set the input to the HDMI connection you are about to connect to. Then connect HDMI to that input that is in TV and the display should reflect the device.
Let me know if this works. Thanks.

Hi, yes I tried 2 different cables, different ports, cleaned up (blow air) into the TV and and dock ports (dock is brand new never used from a year+ ago)
I couldn't find a default native setting on the TV.
Really sucks that there is an awesome ROM for the gtablet and I can't use it on the bigger screen, intention was to watch Netflix and movies, besides reading
The tablet is one of those projects that never happened and when I finally manage to get it going this happens...:crying:
Read the addon that I posted. It will connect if you connect it in that order.

Hi Nobe, it still doesn't work. I just don't get it.
TV recognizes the connection (shows as plugged-in) but says no signal.
Unfortunately monitor is not as advanced as a TV, simply says no signal.
Faulty dock? It charges fine
Thanks
Went to stock, and image shows up fine on TV
Is there something I could change, DPI,res? on the current SmoOth install (have backups) that could potentially fix the issue?
Thanks

I keep mine at 160dpi. The issue is that you have to connect everything to the dock before connecting it up to the TV. For some strange reason the dock settings doesn't recognize the connections being made. The dock works fine it is the drivers I believe that are kernel related. If you power up the dock with the HDMI connected to it, then place tablet on the dock, then connect the HDMI to the TV's input with the TV on and turned to that input. Then it should display onto the TV without issues. Done this multiple times when this came up and this was the only way for me to get the dock to display the output of the tablet.
Sent from my SmoOth A$$ Gtablet
The thing is I did exactly as you said multiple times to be sure.
Using SmoOth image does not come up
Restored to stock ROM and image shows up fine
I'm going to try a fresh SmoOth install and see how it goes or is there any way to check the drivers or make adjustments to it?
Thanks
Any advice on checking the drivers?
Thanks
Actually the drivers are there and working the way they are suppose to be. I do believe that it might in the way it is communicating with the TV still. I am currently working on something that might help out, but I want to test it fully before suggesting it since most everyone doesn't use this feature.

It is really odd that doing the same process on the stock rom works.
Thanks a lot for the follow-up Nobe
Curious if anyone found a solution to this problem? I too have the exact same issue with my Gtab even after trying the solution posted with different cables and such. Stock rom works fine though.
I'm wondering if Nobe found something

[Q] External Touch Screen question

I recently purchased a dell 20 inch touch screen. One of the major selling points was that it supported an MHL-HDMI, meaning 1 simple cable would supply both an HDMI and USB connection from my phone to the monitor... which it does. The issue however is that the touch screen does not respond correctly to input. Anywhere I touch on the screen it simply hits the same spot near the top left over and over. USB devices plugged into the monitor (it's also a hub) work just fine.
I thought it might have been the cable so I tried an external MHL adapter and ended up with the same result. Then I hooked up some other android devices(tronsmart prometheus, and an ouya (running CM11)) through hdmi with USB attached and again received the same response. It does however work normally with every variety of x86 computer I've tried; even android x86.
This seems very similar to a configuration issue I fixed on an a touchscreen Ubuntu laptop years ago. Some googling helped me solve that one quickly and easily, but the problem is that I have no idea where to start on this one. Searching is almost impossible as any combination of "android" and "touch screen" tends to take me off in the wrong direction. Even here 4 out of the 5 threads I've found are at least 5 years old and quite hypothetical.
Of course it could always be a deeper issue involving a lack of kernel support, in which case I'm probably screwed.
Any suggestions on where/how to start? If nothing else this can at least act as a warning for people not to buy MHL HDMI touchscreens and expect them to work with android phones out of the box. At least not yet.
Thanks for any ideas in advance
i`am exactly in the same position right now, beside not having bought a touchscreen yet.
my thoughts were also to buy a dockingstation for the htc one x (m8), to have
hdmi and usb , then just connect both to a touchscreen monitor and make use of mhl
to make it work, meaning having proper touch functionallity on the monitor.
and you`re right, i`am searching this topic for some time now, seems like this idea diyed out in 2011,
at least according to the internet
so, not much of help from my side, but def. interested to see how this thread goes !

Anyone try connecting Mate 10 to monitor

Hi. Has anyone tried using a USB C-to-HDMI cable to connect Mate 10 to a monitor. How do you like it? Do apps scale well on monitor? Assuming you hooked up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, have you tried editing a document? Thanks!
still waiting for my Mate 10! But one of the reasons for getting one is USB-C to HDMI. One thing I noted when sourcing a cable - if you use a "standard" cable you won't be able to stream Netflix/Amazon streaming due to lack of "HDCP" compliance. I got a cable that was compliant for a few euro more on Amazon. Just keep this in mind if you want to stream Netflix etc.
Does anyone know if this would work with a Surface Pro 4? The SP4 has a mini display port, so maybe with a mini display port adapter, we can connect Mate 10 to the SP4 and view desktop mode on the tablet. Would that work?

Well the cable I have purchased is the one linked below - which the manufacturer says (elsewhere) is the HDCP compliant one. I can't guarantee you that it will work though!
I am expecting my phone and this cable this week so will try out!

NOTE - this manufacturer also sells usb-c to hdmi cables that it says are NOT compliant. Only one above is one they say is compliant.

Thanks I'll look for it here in Amazon US, no problem returning so might as well try.
I tried it out briefly when I got the phone.
I used a type c to HDMI adapter, with a normal HDMI cable.
Some things I noticed:
I think this drained the battery more than anything else I've done with the phone (including gaming).
The phone was noticeable warm after the session.
My phone rebooted shortly after the desktop session. Like it crashed.
The phone states it's in reverse charge mode, like juice is also bring drained from the phone to the TV.
I couldn't get YouTube to work full screen without borders. Unless I was mirroring the phone screen (which means phone screen also remains on).
I've mixed feelings, it's early days I guess.
Ok, I am still waiting for the cable from Amazon but ended up purchasing an adaptor from Maplin.
Worked fine - as in outputted screen of phone (in phone or 'desktop' mode).
But I did notice that the screen resolution as outputted was far less than the resolution of the screen - I would have expected the 1080p display to mirror across to the TV.
It wasn't that it was bad, just blurry text and not crisp when looking at video. Whereas in the past, with a phone with an actual hdmi connection as opposed to usb-c, or indeed when outputting a media player with hdmi or casting using chromecast, the quality is perfect.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or perhaps the Maplin cable is not up to speed. Open to ideas.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or perhaps the Maplin cable is not up to speed. Open to ideas.

Interesting. Sounds like you are using Mate 10 Pro. Wonder if resolution is improved using Mate 10.

I was wondering about the battery drainage. Some cables I've seen have an additional input for charger. Maybe that might help

No, normal Mate 10.
Other cable arrived and same situation. To clarify, it's fine, and perfectly watchable, just not crystal clear. It strikes me that this method seems like the usb-c to hdmi cable is simply mirroring the display of the phone rather than actually outputting the video file itself independently - as would happen with a HDMI connection as you used to get on some phones. Perhaps this is something to do with the issue.

......hope you post result of amazon cable! have a nice day!
It was amazon cable I referred to above. So same with maplin adaptor and amazon cable. Tried outputting a HD YouTube video but not much different. As I say, fine, but not as clear as would expect if you copied that file to a media player attached to a tv via hdmi
Hooked mine up with the Huawei supercharger and cable and it slowly drains the battery in desktop mode. Without charger it will suck down the battery fast. Benched with Antutu and got 175k on phone. In desktop on 30" monitor got 157k. Still faster than my Mate 9. My S8+ in Dex was just about worthless. Also with the M10 in desktop with wired mouse has zero lag. Bluetooth mouse a different story. So gaming is pretty good on a monitor.
Ok, I "solved" my problem by fluke. I would love if someone more techy than me could explain but this is what I did to fix the fact that the HDMI output looked more like 640x480 than a hi def picture.
Went to TV settings, and selected advanced, HDMI settings, and Changed HDMI "Auto" mode to HDMI Graphic mode (choice of Graphic/Video - video was default and was crap). As soon as I did this I had perfect outputted photos and videos.
According to one tv manual I found on a search:
"Graphic: HDMI input timing set to Graphic mode (PC) - The image is full scan.
Video: HDMI input timing set to Video mode. The image is over scan."
According to someone on a completely unrelated PS4 forum:
"Basically by changing the HDMI mode to graphic, the HDMI output (be it gaming console, pc, or cable) bypasses "extra" processing features of the TV that
make the game and TV broadcasts look crappy and also causes lag. By bypassing those features you will get a much clearer picture."
Either way, it's fixed. On my tv. And on a shop tv the same issue. So given that I've connected previous phones with hdmi connections a few years ago without issues, this suggests that it is something to do with how the Mate 10 outputs signals in a way that TV recognises?
Love to hear an explanation from the experts. Thanks.
Edit: someone else with a similar issue on another device - so it seems the issue is that the Mate 10 is not recognised by most Televisions as a "PC" which would correct hdmi mode to "graphics" ?
"When I switch between the Blu-Ray and the PC on two separate HDMI inputs, the TV doesn't detect that's it's connected to a PC, so it doesn't switch from video to graphics mode - which is required for it to look good as a computer monitor.
Since the TV deosn't recognize the PC and auto switch to graphics mode, when I switch from Blu-Ray to PC, I have to dig down into the menu and switch the HDMI mode to graphics manually - and then back when I go to the Blu-Ray. -- Major pain if I'm switching back and forth."
Any ideas? Is this something Huawei could fix in firmware?

It looks like its related to the TV resolution : I have the same issue (640*480 resolution) when I connect the mate 10 pro to a 4K native TV but it works perfect when connected to a full HD TV !! It's a shame as 4K tend to be the standard display, so I guess Huawei should fix it whith a firmware update. Any other solution (HDMI 2.0 cable maybe??) ?
