Hello -
I cannot find any reference to a similar question, so here goes:
Background for any answers: Never even USED Android before today, but reasonably computer literate.
No-name Chinese Tablet, WiFi but little else (no BT, no GPS, no 3G ...), (pre)rooted Android 4.2.2
System does everything I'll ever want it to, with one exception: I'd like to be able to lock some applications
out of some profiles as in Android 4.3's "Restricted Profiles" but I'd also like to avoid upgrading to 4.3
Is it even vaguely possible to do that (e.g. add some module/s or whatever)? If so, how?
Thanks

Hi,
It is good to be back on android, I was quite follower of it when I had hero, then came iPhone 4, now with one day of galaxy s 2--- I am admiring the handset & user interface as well( admiring both is quite rare in android world )
So back to question: Did any of you helpful people know what is this data encryption, when I used native samsung email client for my work email, it kinda asked me wheather I wanted to encrypt the internal memory, without looking much i just selected yes, but now when i wanted to find where these settings are, they are nowhere to be found, any ideas what this is about, i am kinda confused in here.
Can't find the promised encryption
I found that initramfs has quite a lot of code related to filesystem encryption of data usb and sdcard. I can't find where to enable it. Anyone knows anything about this? All product marketing PDFs talk about "Business Experience" that supposedly includes "H/W encryption".
Hi,
I thought maybe you guys, if anyone, would know. I am looking for an app that can:
- make a log of all the other apps, including stock ones, that make attempts or actual connections to the internet, and at what time
- be able to intercept those connections
- preferably I would create a white list of apps that are allowed to connect, but others do not have permission.
Purposes include:
- saving on bandwidth in poorer countries where internet is expensive.
- making sure apps or malware doesn't try to send off my data when it shouldn't be.
- prevent annoying background sync/apps from running when I don't want them
I find it strange that we either give all the permissions the app wants, or it doesn't work. Why can't we restrict their internet access?
Does this sound feasible? Does it already exist?
I'm rooted and using an Asus Transformer.
Thanks for any help
Try DroidWall. (root required)
It can block apps from connecting to the internet on an per-app based system.
But i don't think it has any kind of log or similar (haven't used it for a while, so might have been upgraded)
it looks like that does exactly what I needed, although I have to re-root my device for it to work again. Anyway, thanks for the tip
droidwall
droid wall definitely and yes it requires root.
You must have thought "why?"
I will explain, many owners some Android Mini PC, including me with my mk808 running Android 4.2.2, has a nasty problem that simply does not have quick settings, or access the lock screen. That is, users can create through the settings but I can not switch them.
So if any developer can help with anything, I and all we would be grateful.
Hey, so I posted this in general, but think it may have been the wrong spot.
Anyway, I recently acquired a Will.i.am iAm+ Puls, and want to see if I can load full android on it (it's currently running a forked version of 4.1). It's an awful product, but heck figured it might be fun to try to load full android on it or even android wear and see what I can do. Problem is, it does not look like it has any USB connectivity, so would need some suggestion on how to load it on another way. If anyone knows of any way to that would be great! I'm debating trying to open up the device too (need to get a jewelers screwdriver) and see if there is some form of internal access.
If anyone could provide any guidance that would be great.
For the curious here's some specs (I assume I'd have to make custom build too?):
1.7-inch PMOLED Display
dual core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon
1GB RAM
16GB of storage
GSM 3G
WiFi
Bluetooth 4.0
GPS
pedometer/accelerometer (not actually sure if it has it.. isn't surfaced in UI)
Did you get anywhere with this? I have a Dial+ which I think is quite similar. They seem to have turned off the map service and Aneeda doesn't seem to do much anymore. I was hoping someone knows how to add some functionality back or even add new apps. I've contacted Iam+ support about getting some developer tools but haven't heard anything back yet.
I was able to use adb to get different apps and launchers onto it, but could never get the functionality I wanted. Screen size is too small, I think this would be best if you could get androidwear on it, but I am not sure how.
You're right, Android Wear would be awesome, the Dial+ is 4G and has 32Gb of internal storage.
If anyone is interested, on the Dial+ to get the developer options menu you first have to go to "About dial" and tap on the kernel version 7 times. After that you can go back up a level in the menu and you'll see the developer options menu is available.
I have a 2016 Honda pilot with the touch screen panel, running android 4.4.2. I have reviewed the guid on how to gain root for the panel ( found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-how-to-gain-root-shell-2016-honda-t3487644 ) however I still have a question regarding functionality and I dont know how well that thread is followed so I figured I would ask in a new thread.
1) The main reason I am looking in to doing this is that I want to have Android Auto in my vehicle, I have a Samsung Note 8 ( Love it btw) and dont have navigation on the head unit and wish to have it on the panel instead of having to look down on my phone. I recently hit a turkey and have it in the shop and using a rental ford explorer and it has android auto already on it. So I have been toying with it, and its pretty amazing and I am sold on it and want to have it in my vehicle. I researched if there was a legit way to get it in my car, and i saw the press release from Honda that they will not put it in the 2016 Pilot for some BS cost related issue ( which sucks.. bleh) So thats why I am here... I understand with the root access that I would be able to flash a custom firmware with an updated version of Android that would able to support android auto ( from what I understand it has to have Android 5.0 or higher to be able to run Android Auto)
* I have done rooting and customs roms/mods on my prior phones before so I am not a total noob regarding this process, and currently have a rooted tablet that i maintain. Im not saying that I am an expert by any means but I do have some know-how.
2) I have the back up camera, turning camera, sirius XM radio funcitons which I dont want to lose function of. If i do the root to the head unit, Will I lose function of these?
3) I also have the buttons on my steering wheel that I use frequently, ie radio controls, volume, calling, etc. I dont want to lose function of these either.
4) I mainly just want to add the Android Auto function to my Dashboard unit so i can have navigation w/o losing any other function. Are there custom firmware options that can support this?
Thanks for the help in advance
