Is anyone else having issues with the other party hearing you in call? I have a case, and no matter if I have it on or off, the other party can't hear me unless I talk louder than normal. I don't recall having to talk that loud on my iPhone to be heard. Was happening on CM7 and latest UnNamedROM.
I've encountered the same issue. I've been running unnamed since the day I got my phone, and am ocrrently on 2.2.1. I've read of others having this issue as well. I've also read somewhere that disabling the noise canceling feature supposedly helps. I've done so, but not sure if or how much it helps, as I can't hear myself from the other end. Perhaps someone else can chime in with advice regarding this topic.
So I was doing some more tests. It seems I might be holding the phone away from my face when I speak in an effort to not get face grease on the screen. Will have to do more testing to verify.

I too have this issue whenever I use the UCKK6 modem after the OTA update. Whenever I was on the UCKH7 firmware + modem, I had no problems and when I use the UCKK6 firmware + UCKH7 modem, I also don't have problems.
When using the UCKK6 modem though, I get a LOT of people complaining that they can't hear me and will sometimes even hang up on me because they think my call dropped (I'm still there though and can hear them perfectly).
It sounds like your mouth is being muffled or like you are underwater- or like you are randomly teleporting yourself across the room, while leaving your phone in one place.
I have done several tests myself by calling my house phone with my cell and putting the house phone on mute (to prevent echo). I then hold both phones to each ear and basically talk to myself. One test even involves me saying the alphabet. I have done these tests several times using both modems.
My tests gave me the conclusion that the K6 modem is buggy, but is especially unusable with the noise suppression turned on. When on, certain syllables seem to get cancelled out by the noise suppression, as though it thinks that part of it is background noise. However, even with the noise suppression off, I still get the occassional fading of my voice, but it is extremely occassional compared to when the noise suppression feature is on, where it is almost every couple words or so.
With the H7 modem, I notice no problems whatsoever, whether the noise suppression is on or off.
So, I recommend doing one of the following if you are experiencing these issues:
1) Revert completely back to UCKH7 firmware and modem if you want/need the noise suppression.
2) Use the UCKK6 firmware with the UCKH7 modem if you want/need the noise suppression.
3) Continue using UCKK6 firmware and modem, but turn the noise suppression off.
1 and 2 are sure fire ways to not have any issues at all. 3 may still give you problems, but it may happen once every few minutes with noise suppression off (still there, but not nearly as noticeable), while once every couple syllables with the feature on (very freaking noticeable!).

So I started having this issue a couple days ago.
I've tried going back to the KH7 modem and still not working. I even tried restoring to stock.
Mic works fine in speakerphone mode, but I get absolutely no sound otherwise (I can shout into the phone and the other side hears nothing). Noise suppression toggle doesn't do anything.
Thoughts?
I guess I'll try taking the phone into ATT this weekend.
^
That sounds like hardware issues, so yeah, bring it back to ATT.

If it works fine in speakerphone mode that means it isn't a hardware problem -_-
Try this. Open up your phone and...
Type this in: *#*#197328640#*#*

Click on [8] AUDIENCE SETTING
Click on [2] AUDIENCE DISABLE
then try out a test call and see if it works
Problem with mic and in call volume too low

The above code does not work on AT&T version, I guess. At least it did not work for me. Don't know if root makes any difference, yes I can have booster apps. But again people have reported that this does not seem to work.
I happen to read in International s2 forum that opening the phone and making a bigger hole for mic helps. Or even cutting a slice of the white protective casing around the lower micophone seems to help as well. I did not want to tamper with hardware at the moment, as I am just 10 days past my warranty period.
Let me know if someone knows some funky codes to get this fixed. I am running 2.3.4 stock ROM and not rooted yet.
- Thanks

I'm on AT&T and the code worked for me, however I'm still having the issue. I don't necessarily think messing with the hardware by cutting or slicing will fix it because (for me at least) the problem is intermittent. Sometimes I'll go afew days without the problem, then I can have 3 calls back to back where the person doesn't hear me at all. It can happen both when I initiate the call or answer and it doesn't always happen in the same point of the call. This is pretty frustrating, I really hope there's a fix because I don't want to have to convert to stock and deal with AT&T.
I had this issue. Mine was not intermittent, the mic just stopped working. No amount of flashing or resets from ATT could make it work again.
Strangely enough the speakerphone worked fine and that just screams software issue, but AT&T chose to replace my hardware.
The problem seems to be intermittent for me too.... I don't know how the code works for Griffon23, as AT&T has disabled that on our model. I have not updated to 2.3.6 as the firmware ushers in loads of problems.
I really hope there is a fix, I am just being lazy to flash new roms and stuff, as I might have to return this piece of S#$#t due the low volume and poor mic. Such a shame that expensive phone like this has issues with basic functionality, voice calls.
I also tried good in ear headphones, that solves the problem of low in call volume but not microphone, which simply points that there is some internal problem. May be hardware or may br firmware. And May be ICS update can fix this for us. Fingers crossed.
Thank you Samsung!

THIS. I was having a similar problem a while back. People were telling me that my voice was cutting in and out a lot. Not even looking for it, I found this thread and flashed the UCKH7 modem. I also read somewhere that it helps battery life too as that's what I was searching for.
Anyway, It's now been several weeks now and I had forgotten about the problem until I saw this thread again. I guess I'd have to say that the UCKH7 modem definitely solved my problems as I can't remember the last time someone complained about my voice cutting in and out.
Since this is the only thread similarly related to my issue, I'll continue this one instead of starting a new one. So I've tried the above listed suggestions and the dial code for the audio does not work for me, as a matter of fact, none of the dial codes work for my phone, I get a "Invalid MMI code or no connection" error. I Have not been able to make a call on speakerphone since I flashed my phone for the first time back when I first got it. I've switched around from different ROMs and I get the same issue. The main issue is that no one can hear me when I'm on speakerphone, but I can hear them. I can make regular calls just fine. I've even flashed back to stock and the issue still persists. Are there any suggestions? I am currently on the latest AOKP build of ICS.
If you've been flashing different ICS roms, there's a chance you flashed one of the mic-swapped kernels. Try the AOSP/AOKP version of NEAK. Make sure to wipe cache and dalvik before flashing.
EDIT: Didn't read your post closely enough, if regular calls work, the kernel shouldn't be the problem. Maybe the modem? UCKH7 is what most people report with good results, depending on area.
Have you ever been able to use the speakerphone? Do you know for certain that it works?

I just came across this thread after a long time. I was surprised to see how much it has grown!p and how many people haod similar issues as me!
Well, I kind of wanted to give an update and suggestion for those who still have issues.
First my update. Since having these issues in UCKK6 and ICS leaks, I actually gave up on ATT's firmware and moved on to custom ROMs. Currently- and loving it- I'm on a ROM called Mystic's Pride (will be going to Mystic's Glory, a more advanced version- once it is out of Beta testing). Mystic's ROMs are ported firmwares from the international SGS2, but they use the latest ATT modems since the international version's will not work on our phones.
Using a custom ROM will NOT fix the call quality issue. That is all linked to the modem.
Now the suggestions. While running UCKK6, I discovered that you could use the UCKH7 modem with it. So for a while (until I noticed excess battery drain issues), i was using the UCKK6 firmware with the UCKH7 modem.
NO MATTER WHAT VERSION FIRMWARE YOU ARE USING (Gingerbread OR ICS), YOU CAN USE THE UCKH7 MODEM!
As I stated in my update, I am running a custom ROM now, which is Android 4.0.4. Im still using the UCKH7 modem and my calls are super clear and I am not having any issues with people hearing me.
You may be asking, "If you are now on ICS, then why not just use the latest ATT ICS modem?" The answer is simply that after all of my experiences with horrible call quality using official ATT modems, I simply do not trust them anymore. I know of one modem that works, so I have stuck with it without issues. I plan to test out the newest ICS modem though... just to see how it compares with UCKH7. If no good, then its back to KH7.
So, if you are still having issues, then try flashing the UCKH7 modem to your phone. You do not need to be rooted in order to do this. All you need is Odin and to boot into Download mode.
If you flashed the KH7 modem and still having issues, then you most likely have a hardware problem.
Another thing I noticed while still using UCKK6 with its corresponding modem is that by turning off the Noise Suppression, you can get better quality calls. However, using UCKH7 modem may make your calls clearer, but will allow you to use Noise Suppression.
I hope this helps somewhat. I have NOT sent my phones in for repairs/replacement for this issue and my calls are just as clear as the day I bought my phone.
Ill try to pop in here to answer questions, etc if needed.

Lol spexwood, I know you're trying to be helpful, but I gotta let you know your post is way old news. It's been common knowledge for a long time that you can flash any ATT I777 modem with any firmware, using ClockworkMod Recovery. It is useful (to me at least, didn't know this before) to know you can also use Odin to flash modems if you don't have CWM, but most I777 users around here have it because they use custom kernels and ROMs. There's a whole thread which contains every single modem in CWM-flashable zips, and it also contains a Google map with notes about which modems users have reported working best for them in their respective locations; this might be helpful to you if you didn't know about it beforehand.
tl;dr - try all the different modems to see which one gives you the best speeds and call quality in your area, they are interchangeable. Use this thread to help you out.
This is one problem I've had when completely stock, ics, and jb. And it mostly occurs when I have ear phones plugged in

So, I got a Rezound last week, kind of hoped that it would still have GB on it, but found out it had that recent ICS build on there. I didn't think much of it until a couple days ago...
First, I think I know the answer already, but since I have this "leaked build", I'm guessing there's no going back to stock GB? What was upgraded besides the ROM (baseband, firmware, etc)?
Second, people are saying that when I talk, it starts out at normal volume, then sounds like I'm holding the phone about 2 feet in front of me while talking (in other words sounding very distant), and coming back... Now, the only person who has actually described the problem is my dad, who has a Thunderbolt. My wife has an Inc2, and has not mentioned any problems, however she may not know what to listen for, as well as others, etc... I've also tried disabling 4g and using 3g only. I am wondering if this is some kind of radio issue?
Third, the bluetooth doesn't seem to have a lot of range. I have a couple bluetooth devices I use often. The first one is a Panasonic KX-TG6581 cordless phone which utilizes bluetooth on the handset to be used as an extension to the cell phone. On previous phones I got whole house coverage (I live in a single level 3000sq ft home). On the Rezound it disconnects at the ends of the house... I also have a Turtle Beach headset equipped with bluetooth. It seems to work fine when initially calling or getting a call, but then there's there's this weird static (kind of sounds like old dial up negotiating tones?). I wonder if this is because of bluetooth 3.0, but not ruling out the headset and rf/bluetooth interference
Last, even running with the extended battery, unless I shut off mobile data altogether when at home (which I should probably be doing anyway, but coming from other 4g phones I never noticed until now), I can stare it for 5 min and watch the percentage dropping. On wifi, not too bad. Just worried if I'm in 4g all day with no wifi will the extended battery last, say 12 hrs? I have no problems keeping it on AC power when at home.
Hope I didn't sound too noobish LOL... thanks for any suggestions.

how about re-flashing the leaked ics to see if the radio, bluetooth, and battery issues can be fixed.

When I got the phone, we did the sale inside a VZW store, the salesperson turned it on, and it was at the Welcome to Android screen... Thought it looked like ICS but wasn't 100% sure (should have double checked, I know)... even the rep didn't check... So, I'm guessing it was a fresh flash? Of course, not knowing exactly where it originally came from... don't know if that would make a difference?

Okay.. I'm a bit confused. Were there earlier leaks that would just let you install on a stock phone? I'm not rooted and saw that it was S-ON when I was in the bootloader?
Is the latest ICS the one that was released around 3/17? I just want to make sure I got the right one here...

Yeah there have been a few leaks. The older ones didn't run so well and didn't have the updated radios or hboot. The RUUs are supposed to be run on a locked phone. They are signed releases from HTC. Yes it was leaked around 3/17. I am on it as are many others and it runs fine.

It appears that the HTC One stock ROMs suffer from the same bluetooth audio distortion that was plaguing the N4 and other AOSP 4.1.x and up ROMs until recently.
Can someone please test some mp3 audio that is:
- Local on their device, bitrate higher than 256kbps
- streaming to a set of good speakers that can reproduce high frequencies well
Play some Led Zeppelin or jazz that has lots of cymbal work, or some vocal music, and listen for distortion on the cymbal crashes or the 's' or 'ch' sounds.
I don't believe it is just me. HTC One Sprint users are reporting the same. I just want to make sure it isn't just them and my unit or something.

Sigh. 3 steps forward, 4 steps backwards (at least for me). That distortion is terribly grinding on the ears.
CM10.1 will save me! When it is released...
Just FYI, tested with AOSP CM10.1 ROM and the problem is gone. It's definitely a bug that exists in the stock Sense 5 ROM.
I thought I was the only one (no pun) with this issue. It's very annoying. I hope the stock version gets fixed soon.
Anyone with the recent sense updates have any improvement on this front?

I have a Sprint HTC One, but the Bluetooth problem is the only reason I keep going back to ViperROM from CM10.1. My Bluetooth (Jawbone ERA) works fine for music and other media sounds, but phone audio is completely messed up. My speech is not getting picked up at all, and the remote party sounds garbled. I also tried disabling the WiFi per your request, but that had zero effect. I went from a 5/27 nightly to 6/19, but the Bluetooth phone audio issue has remained.

I have a T-Mobile HTC One and same deal... had Dirty Unicorns installed and bluetooth music/etc worked great, but phone calls were just a fuzzy, distorted mess. And since I still use my phone for calls (and rely on a headset for work) it was unusable.
Right now I'm rocking a stock rooted ROM since I haven't found a ROM yet that works well enough to be my daily.
I have a LG Optimus G e970 AT&T phone.
I have a little and maybe rare problem.
When I have a call phone, people dont hear me, only with loud speaker, in normal mode dont.
I think is the same microphone to normal and loud speaker, the phone I was flashed with a couple rom, stock rom, Cyanogen ROM (last rom), I was format and reinstall rom and now I have SnowJB rom and always I have the same problem.
Anyone have any idea or know somethig about it? I will appreciate any help.

I had been running the phone on houstonn's RootBox 7-20-2013 (4.2.2) build and most things worked alright (problems like NFC not working, randomizing Wifi MAC address on each boot, and poor battery life). Last night I tried flashing the latest Paranoid Android ROM 4.3.1 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228880 ) and everything seemed to work much better. NFC worked, Wifi MAC address would stay constant on reboots, and "Android OS" didn't use more power than the display. I just found out, though, that the mic and earpiece don't work during calls (though you can hear keytones when you dial a number during a call). When you put it on speaker or plug in a headset, then the mic works. I've tried wiping, reflashing, and updating the modem to 20j. Any idea how to fix this problem for 4.3.1?
A note: the phone had had the Nexus 4 conversion done to it previously and I returned it to stock before rerooting and flashing these roms. I think the Nexus 4 conversion messed with some of the advanced settings and they haven't been restored properly (hence the random Wifi MAC).
Any help ? I appreciate any help about it...

I have the same issue on my E970 on every single 10.2 based roms i have tried.. only speaker mode works on calls (or else headpones)
the in phone ear piece doesnt work at all..
anyone know of a fix for this.
btw im on T-mobile if thats the reason this is broken
If software mods do not fix the issue, you will need to replace the charge port flex. The microphone for normal calls is at the bottom of the phone right next to the charge port. It is an easy fix once you get it open and taken apart. I have done a few already.
I had some problems after flashing slimkat
I just flashed to the slimkat alpha rom and had some issues with the front faceing speaker. So i woud have to take my calls on loud speaker. I found a hybrid radio trying to get LTE working on tmobile and found that my issue was fixed after i flashed that hybrid radio. It may help.

It is a hardware failure. The same thing happened to my girlfriend's LG G2 after a couple weeks and we had to return it. The second G2 she got has worked fine ever since.
But hey, that's the G2, not the Optimus G, so it maybe different. I've just noticed more than the normal amount of hardware failures on some LG models. My first LG Optimus G didn't get LTE, and (long story) after accidentally having the phone fall off the top of my car and shattering the back gorilla glass into a million pieces, I bought another LG Optimus G. The _second_ LGOG did get LTE right out of the box! Go figure! Same exact model, same carrier, even the same SIM. So there was obviously something wrong with the LTE radio of the first one right when I got it (I never returned it because I never actually read the specs to find I was supposed to be getting LTE all along, lol).
Fixed

can you tell me which hybrid version you flash? LTEhybrid33-84.zip or cwm-lgog_e970_20j-att_jb.modemhybridmako.zip

LTEHybrid33-54.zip solved this for me. Sorry, no link, but I found it here somewhere. I suspect the 33-84 one would work as well. It was like magic, after I was thinking I got screwed by LG again (don't ask about the G2x/P999).
I think my base band got updated to the latest T-Mobile when I flashed a de-bloated T mobile ICS rom. Not sure if this is the case as I am S-ON and am not sure if it's possible for an unsigned rom to flash the baseband, but whatever. Was wondering if there are any users out there who have stayed on Telus stock ICS and what their baseband is. Was having some radio issues and wanted to try and flash stock baseband. Thanks
Which one did you flash?

I'm on the latest T-Mobile I believe 1.14.550L.17DC. For all I know this is the Telus ICS baseband but I was having volume issues with the earpiece being too loud even at lowest setting. I do have control over the volume, unlike all the CM based ROMs, I just feel like the earpiece volume is a bit too high compared to what I remember it being when the phone was bone stock. Just wanted to see if I was on the "wrong" radio. I have no issues regarding voice and probably none in regard to data (haven't checked). Just volume. From what I've heard many people who are not on T Mobile have flashed the lattest T mobile radio for improvements. Thing is I'm S-ON so now I figured the radio could not be updated regardless of what ROM I flashed unless it was signed official Telus. Maybe not? Tried De Bloated T Mobile ROM and Telus Rooted ROM and both work well. I'm really just curious at this point I guess. If I'm not on the right radio I'm not sure I'm willing to go S-OFF and start flashing stuff just because my earpiece is a bit too loud. Just would like to know.
Post a screen shot

Can you post a screen shot of your baseband? or type it in?
Would help. Also, having a slightly louder volume isnt so bad, you can turn the volume down manually..

1.14.550L.17DC Latest T mobile. The lowest volume setting is pretty loud so being able to control volume doesn't mean much. It's not unbearable but it's seems significantly louder than stock so that's sort of why I'm looking at going back to stock or possibly going S-OFF to flash radios. The stock telus ICS zip will not install from bootloader. It either needs stock Telus gingerbread installed as a base or an earlier radio or something. Installing stock gingerbread (executable) requires an hboot downgrade (it checks hboot) and possibly a radio downgrade as well. At this point I may just stay where I am but it wouldbe nice if I could try the stock ICS radio. I was also wondering if it's even possible to flash the baseband when I install a custom ROM when I'm S-ON?
S-OFF Super CID

I would definately S-off it really helps. chat with @ravike14 he can help you thru it.
If you s-off and super cid you should be able to flash the firmware without issue.
I'm not sure about the baseband thru custom rom. There should never be a firmware upgrade in a custom rom.
Poeple should also warn someone if it does.
I was upset that a certain rom I flashed had a modified recovery and it wasnt mentioned in the op.
Can you send/post your build.prop file? There are some settings that can be controlled there.

Thanks for the info. I wound up going the s-off route and flashed a t mobile stock ruu which worked out fine. The volume issue I believe was my mistake. Rather than making a regular phonecall I was making a *888 call which was an automated message giving account balance with a certain Telco. For whatever reason this message was way loud. Regular voice calls seemed to be fine. So l went to evervolve 3.3 but the battery drain was real bad so now I run energy rom and everything is great. If 10.2 ever gets call audio fixed I would consider going back to that as it was soooo smooth even with a couple bugs
Good Job!

Glad to hear everything worked out.
Evervolve is looking like a very good rom!
Jellybean sense is in the works and it's really smooth and snappy, but has a lot of issues right now, and the kernel is proving to be a very difficult problem.
