Has anyone else had issues with their back light faulting? I've searched and have seen that other sprint evo lte users have had issues with screen flickering, but my problem seems to be more serious that that. when i wake up in the morning the screen is blank. thank god i have a custrom rom installed and can manually mess with the status bar slider to get the backlight to turn back on. It just needs to be tweaked here and there. the backlight seems to only like to work on full brightness, if not, it will flicker like crazy. if i press with more pressure on certain parts of the screen the backlight turns off completely until i remove my finger. I dont think its a proximity issue since it'll just flicker sitting on a desk. Do I need to replace the screen? is this worth it? i havent dropped to phone or anything for this to default. I can upload a video later. gonna use my OG evo for that which is still kicken by the way
I realize this thread is incredibly old, but did you ever find a solution to the flickering problem? I just started seeing the exact same behavior, including the screen going dark when putting pressure on certain areas of the screen.
Thanks!
I have a PJ75100 doing this, but the screen does not function at all. I get the orange/green light while charging, and if I power it on it acts as if it's doing it's regular startup, but nothing shows on screen.
I did update the stock firmware with the latest release ruu, but still no screen.
I'd really like to get this one going as it's not the normal Jewel, it's the white and silver one, and my girlfriend wants it to replace her iPhone 5c.

During a phone call, my proximity sensor doesnt seem to be sensitive enough. The screen turns off when I hold it to my ear, but when I pull away to look at the screen and interact with it, the screen either doesnt turn on or it will flash on and off again repeatedly. It seems that the phone cant detect that it is not near my head any more and should turn the screen back on.
Generally it wouldnt be a big deal since the screen does turn off when its held near my head, but when I needed to use the dial pad for a menu prompt it got really frustrating when trying to press in numbers with the screen switching on and off. (I just called Verizon CS recently and navigating through the menu was a pain with this screen going on and off).
I'm coming from the Samsung Charge which was very responsive: when you pulled the phone away from your head, the screen instantly turns on for you to press in keys or hang up. With the Rezound, it doesnt turn on most of the time and I have to press the power button (which will turn it on and then automatically off again...). The problem is alleviated if I'm in a very bright place (direct sunlight) so my guess is that the proximity sensor may not be sensitive enough to detect the difference between darkness and low lighting conditions. I'm sitting in a room with a 26W CFL lamp (so not too dark) and the Rezound has trouble turning the screen back on during a call when I pull the phone away from my ear.
Was wondering if anyone else exhibit this condition or if its just specific to my device (in which case I'll have to give Verizon a ring to get another replacement)?
I'm having the opposite problem. It unlocks itself a lot up against my head. My thunderbolt did this so bad I got a replacement thinking it was a defective proximity sensor. But it wasn't and I got in the habit of manually locking the screen on calls. But now my rezound does it but not as bad. I think htc sucks with proximity sensors cuz auto brightness is never programmed properly. It doesn't go dark enough compared to Samsung and motorola phones with auto brightness on. It only has about 3 brightness levels like in the HTC brightness widget, whereas stock Android has 5.

I'm having the same problem. The sensor would force the phone screen off as soon as I make a phone call. The verizon rep had me hard-reset while I was on the phone with her. The same symptom arises after the hard reset and the phone is brand-new.
I had to reset to get her to send me another rezound replacement.
On this replacement, however, I'm having the same issue again. My gf's rezound doesn't seem to have the issue.
I'm having a second replacement sent now. This is pretty annoying.
The interesting thing is the issue comes and goes. One day the sensor wouldn't respond, and other days it works fine. Although I would say that the issue deteriorates over time and never improves.
I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I find it rather strange. What happens is when I'm talking to someone on the phone, and I hit the internet app to try to access the internet while talking to them while not connected to wifi, the screen will turn off. (Because, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe with Sprints new network/with the new HTC LTE we can use data while making a phone call with Sprint.) The phone call continues no problem. Then I hit the power button to wake up the phone. The screen turns back on, but I can't pull up the ring to unlock the phone. If I touch the screen anywhere or any of the buttons it turns the screen back off. As a result, I have to wait until the other person hangs up on me or I have to force shutdown my phone in order to get back into it. I have no clue what is causing this or what I should try to fix it. I'll probably switch to a different rom soon enough which may fix my problem. But I was curious if anyone else is having this problem or if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.
I have the HTC EVO LTE. Default rom and everything. It is rooted and unlocked.
Do you have a screen protector? Sounds like its messing with your proximity sensor which is a known and common issue.
Either cut out the proximity area on the protector, or apply a different brand. Zagg HD's are most notorious for this.
If you don't have a screen protector then you've got issues.
That was my first guess, but I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem because it only happens when I try to open the internet when talking on the phone. If I never try to open the internet I can turn my screen off, open apps, do what ever while I'm on the phone without any problems.
For what every reason, the problem is centered around trying to open the internet using data while talking on the phone. I'm not sure what is causing this. Let me know if anyone else has any other suggestions. Thanks.
I figured out the problem. I went to a sprint store and got it checked out to confirm my idea with 10 other HTC EVO LTE phones. Apparently, the culprit is the light sensor doesn't work correctly. If the phone is in a dark area, the light sensor gets confused and causes this problem. However, one difference is that some of the phones remained permanently locked after the screen turned on the first time never allowing the user to get back into the phone until the other person hangs up the phone, while other HTC EVO LTE phones unlocked an let the user back in after it is introduced to a well let area. As a result, I am not currently aware of any firmware updates to fix this problem. However, hopefully HTC will learn about this problem and create a patch to fix this light sensor.
Any help much appreciated....I have an issue with my screen flickering, dimming very faint and going black when i touch my screen. sometimes my screen will go black for long periods of time and phone is practically useless. This is not an issue of just a slight flicker on light colored screens that I have read other people describe. The screen does not always do this but is definitely getting more frequent. The flickering/dimming happens when I touch screen and especially when I touch it with more pressure. It also seems to be more sensitive on the bottom half of the screen.
I consider myself as the "scientific type" and have been testing many different scenarios trying to find a rhyme or reason to this happening. The only thing I have found is that if I keep my phone out of my pocket the problem seem to not happen. Then I can put my phone in my pocket for as little as 5 minutes and my screen could be messed up for hours. Everything else about phone seems to work great.
At first I was thinking this was a software issue but now I am leaning towards hardware? I am rooted, unlocked with s-on and cannot send back for warranty. I was running mean Rom for many versions and have also gone back to stock rom and stock kernel and experience same problem. Many reboots and clean installs too. I have also taken phone apart and reconnected all ribbon cables hoping there was a bad connection.
My Evo lte is only 4 months old and has never been dropped nor has it ever been wet. There are no scratches on screen and has been in otter box since the phone was brand new. I am running out of ideas and am I dire need for advice.
Thanks,
Mike
I've got a recurrent problem with my Desire X which seems to have two parts, and doesn't seem to correlate with any other post that I've found;
- quite often when the screen is asleep, when I press the power button to wake it the screen doesn't come back; I get the bottom capacitive buttons lighting up, but no screen. Hitting power again turns off the lights, sometimes I can toggle it on and off a few times and it comes back (combined with swiping the screen possibly), but other times no matter what I do I can't get it to wake the screen and I have to resort to pulling the battery. Also doesn't help to plug in power. NB: yes battery is always at least 60% charged minimum
- other times when the screen is on the brightness/display goes into a build-up loop and washes out the screen, sometimes strobing, sometimes only leaving streaks of colour. Sometimes toggling the screen on and off via the power button works, sometimes it doesn't. I use Auto-brightness, but I have experimented with full- and half-brightness and it hasn't made a difference, so doesn't seem to be sensor-related.
I thought I'd hold out to see if the OTA JB update fixed it, but it doesn't look like that's going to appear here anytime soon.
Any thoughts? I've kept it relatively stock.
A small video ? Its a hardware fault anyways. Did it fell down ?

I'd post a video, but it always seems to happen when I don't have another device handy.
It hasn't had any bad knocks, only ever typical day-to-day bumps; I'm very careful with my phones. Does it sound like a specific known hardware fault?
Stock ROM, recovery, etc? Or any custom one?
Completely stock, not rooted, only some apps and widgets added, nothing removed.
Is the phone on warranty? Maybe it's hardware stuff and it will cost more than one headache.

Definitely hardware. Claim warranty asap.

Here's an example photo of one of the many exciting things the screen randomly does. I'm trying to compile a pile of photos and hopefully video to support my claim, problem is that it's so completely random. I took it to an Optus store the other day to get some sort of idea as to what would happen, and the guy seemed to reckon that they'd do what he tried; pressed the power button on/off about 20 times, if they don't get it to misbehave in that time they'll say it's not faulty!
Want to make sure I get a full backup before sending it in also.
This greeted me on waking it. Sometimes this kind of thing will randomly crop up when in the middle of using it, other times power button won't wake screen, others I get incoming calls but no screen so can't answer - power button is the only thing that responds, which of course hangs up.

So I cant seem to find ANY info relating to this issue aside from results for the LG G4, but the solutions for said phone are all over the place. Some are bad screen, some are related to sim tray, some are related to water damage and battery etc. So basically, about a month after buying this phone (KIW-L24 US version), the screen started to artifact and flash in and out randomly. There is nothing that seems to trigger it. I have set the phone down on a table while on the homescreen and watched the lightshow. It is basically a mixture of the problems seen in these videos (Feat. LG G4).
https://youtu.be/gAUkXLR7eQI And https://youtu.be/QstOH66pfiU.
Symptoms:
Screen will randomly start to flicker and fade in and out. I will also get crazy artifacting lines. (Think de-gaussing an old CRT monitor or simillar to what is seen in the second video)
If i see the problems happening, locking the phone and unlocking again will sometimes fix it temporarily. Other times the problem continues after i turn the screen back on.
Sometimes the screen will refuse to come back on. The backlight turns on, and the digitizer responds, but the screen is still black. Making sure the screen really is off, I can come back to the phone a few minutes later and it will turn on. Other times ill have to hard reset the phone (hold power button 10 sec) and it usually brings the screen back to life.
Background:
I bought the phone "used - Like New" from amazon. It came with all the original accessories and even still had the film protector on the back of the phone. I may have noticed these problems after I received the phone, but they really only started to show about a month after purchase.
At first I though it could be software related as I was running CM13 and something could have been corrupted, so i did not just a factory restore, but a full reflash. This didn't solve the issue. Restarting my phone and the reflash did help, but the problem returned. The inability to turn the screen on persists through a reset and I have to wait till the phone boots again to get the screen back. Sometimes takes more than one reboot. This pretty much confirms a hardware issue right? If i put the phone on a black screen, i can see three small fuzzy "dots" in a triangle shape in the top left quadrant. Could the screen have been damaged by whoever owned it before returning it? They are not dead pixels per se, but seems more like areas where the backlight is showing through ever so slightly more. Not visible unless you are on a black screen in a dark room. Ill upload a video showing some of the issues. Any help is appreciated!
im afraid you need a new display brodar...
Seems to be hardware issue. You can visit the nearest service center to get it fixed for few bucks if you don't have warranty.
Yeah that's what i figured, i just needed conformation. I was able to get amazon to take the return even though I was out of the return period. So at least ill be able to get a refund. Ill just pay the extra for a new one this time haha.
One question : Do u have over heat problem with ur phone ?? If u feel ur phone is more than work from the back dont replace . U'll damage the new screen also . Some ppl erported over heat cpu issue with honor ! ;.

Try moving to stock once , if it fixed stick to it for few days . 99% of possible cases for hardware issue .
So better request for a replacement from huawei . but don't mention them that u bought it used . tell them u bought it new
