The phone is actually pretty good, especially for its age...
You really need to ditch the stock ROM and try something like Cooked. It will perform better AND have better battery life to boot. There will be nothing laggy about it
Also, keep in mind that playing games will drain the battery quickly on any phone regardless of the ROM.

And, a few people have even stated they still like their SII better than their SIII or SIV.
Check out this battery life. This is on SHOstock3 with lite usage.
I still don't get the fuss about battery life when there are removable batteries ...
Definitely not normal to not last a whole day unless that battery is old. Either case, get some new batteries.

True. This is very light use. No gaming. Not a lot of screen time even. But it illustrates that the kind of problem that you described is due to firmware, and not the phone. There is a thread in this forum titled Known identified battery drainers that can help you understand how to correct battery issues. Part of the problem can be the rom, or more specifically the kernel, but there are other possible issues to consider. You can configure your phone to get very good battery life, even with heavy usage.

This is a question to the masses of the Photon community. Just wondering if anyone is having bad laggy-ness with this device? The reason I ask is because I am coming from the epic touch because I need a world phone now and have watched the dog fight part 2 and seemed the phone they were using was laggy especially on the internet.

Laggy yes. But not if you don't use the stock launcher. Download any other launcher and the phone should be fine. It does feel a tap Laggy neitherless. But it handles somehow gaming and media stuff in general better. And the reception is awesome unlike when I had the Samsung epic touch.

No NFC unfortunately. I use Dolphin Browser HD on this and seems very fast, the only slowdowns you may see would be in Sprint's 3G Network.
Well I did like the Epic Touch. Beautiful device fast light. But the bad reception and the loss of service issues where a pain and the slow data on it was a pain too and not being able to handle games and media as well sucked to. Sounds like you have something draining it. No way an extended battery won't last longer than 11 hours. My regular battery will do that with slight use no problem. The Photon has excellent battery life for an Android phone. Even my ogEVO could get a day & 1/2 with extended battery under heavy use and it was terrible with battery life.
Stock browser is just OK. So many better browsers on the Market. I have used them all and still go back to Miren for everyday usage.

I've had the same thing happen where the battery drained extremely fast and showed majority of use as phone idle. Battery pull/reboot took care of it for me. If you can't get it to stop might have to do a factory reset. Either that your battery/device is defective.
Battery pull seemed to work so far. I even had it so bad happen today that the battery didn't get recognized and gave me no power reading. Now it works. Have to see how long. Thanks for your reply and idea and input. I appreciate it.

It would be helpful if you elaborate your Note's set-up. Such as like what ROM is being used, brightness level, LTE/no LTE, etc...
My Note currently has no issue lasting a full work-day with LTE on the whole time. And this is with moderate usage. (No videos, and minimal music)
I'm satisfied with mine... Just keep a charger near by.

There are only a few reasons why you see your battery life as terrible.
1) You are coming from an iPhone. But now you're using a tool of a phone, not a toy, so your battery life will be lower.
2) You are coming from the Droid RAZR MAXX, which is the only android with a bigger battery.
3) You have a rogue app that you didn't use before that is draining your battery life.
4) You are using excessive amounts of LTE data, and you came from a phone without LTE.
If those apply to you, there's your answer. If they don't, you may just have a bad device or battery.
You really need to be more specific when stating something as subjective as battery life is terrible. May I suggest you post screenshots of your battery stats so that you can give some insight to why your battery life is terrible. Coming on these forums and ranting without evidence won't get you very far.

Pretty much every device is unique, even though they are produced and assembled in identical fashion. It's possible for a device to have faulty software or internal hardware from the factory that could drain battery, and it's also possible for it to be shipped with a faulty battery. It's not a common issue, but also not unheard of. If nothing in his usage of the device is out of the ordinary, then it's possible he received a faulty device or battery, and should exchange it.

Install cpu spy and make sure you are going to deep sleep. For weeks I couldn't make it through the day and once I realized that the phone wasn't sleeping I found the app that was causing it and deleted it. I get great battery now but still reboot every morning because my original charging cable was lost so my phone will not sleep until I reboot.

I would say battery life can be defined by screen on time only.

Compared to what???
If you are trying to compare your Note to Apple itoy that is like trying to compare pink tricycle with pink tassels to a Corvette ZR1. No comparison at all, definitely more than apples and oranges. Having owed, well still own till I sell it, Dell Streak only other 5 inch screen out there. Agree it is still not apples to apples (or vette to vette), but Shelby Mustang to ZR1 and can say the battery performance is about the same. I upgraded my Steak to a 2400 mAh battery and had all services on and OC'ed to 1.9 ghz, yes I know single core, standard definition resolution, etc, but as close as you can get in 5 inch screen world. So far the 2500 mAh and stock ROM, with everything on, battery time is relatively the same. Will say only phone that might compare is Samsung Skyrocket HD that is set to come out this month(?), inside they are close to the same, but the screen is 4.6 inch super Amole plus.
Can anyone help me out? This is my battery on battery monitor widget. It says 1500 mah. I've only had my phone off the charger for 3 hours and I'm on 33 percent and watching it drop fast.

Battery Monitor Widget guesses at the capacity (or hard codes it). Go into the apps settings and you can tell it the battery capacity.
Also, make sure your using decent batteries. The two for $15 deals on ebay are not direct replacements. Stick with oem or brand names llike Anker.

I'd just replace the battery or take advantage of getting an extended one if you don't run a case.
From what I've read before, the placement of the CPU in this phone directly heats up the battery and these batteries don't like heat, it shortens their life.

Normal use, at least over a year.
What I do to save battery is very simple. During the day when I am away from a charger I drop minimum CPU freq all the way down to 192mhz. I put max freq at 540mhz and I set scaling to battery saver. Try this and see if you get a difference. Of course it will lag just a little bit but its worth it to save battery. And its not to hard to just go turn CPU up for just a moment if you really need to and then turn it back down when done.

Trick to tell if your battery is going bad:
Take it out. Lay it on a FLAT surface. Try to spin the battery. If it doesn't spin the battery is fine and it's a phone or ROM issue. If it spins easily and like a toy then your battery is bad. Over time the battery will bubble out due to being charged too much and result in an oblong shape that spins.

Not always true. I've seen some batteries that can go bad without starting to swell.Samsung batteries are really bad about swelling. HTC not so much. They just start losing their capacity levels. After 2 years it is good to get a new battery anyways for a cell phone.

Then you need to get a new battery because you clearly have a faulty one. You are the only person on here with a 1 hour battery while everyone else gets 24 on light use.
For what it's worth, this phone seems to eat batteries. I've been through 3, and its not even my daily driver anymore. The processor gets extremely warm, and that in turn gets the battery warmed up too. You can find batteries fairly cheap on Amazon but be careful about which ones you buy.

I think it comes down to expectation. I was able to play Inotia 4 for about 6-8 hours in airplane mode while flying.
However, in my home area the signal strength is weak. If I have 4G on, I lose about half of my battery power in about an hour.
(The battery is about 1 year old by now.) I bought a new Anker battery from Amazon. Reportedly it works well with the Amaze.
I'll have to test it out. Though I think in my area the battery life is not going to be too great due to weak signal...
It is ironically much better when I'm traveling.
install greenify from playstore (ensure you have supersu and root first) and you will be fine. my year old dead battery became alive again. also you can use anker battery, combined with greenify the phone can last day and half or more.

Thats crazy.. But the amaze with constant use for me last about 2-3 hours..(just about NONSTOP use). Does seem to drain fast but for the most part theres always somewhere to charge it or your best bet is to just get a second battery like some people have stated. I Love the amaze, Have Energy rom and everything is GREAT for the most part.. battery does go fairly quick though... Not horrible at the same time. But im on my phone alot
My girlfriend and I both have Notes that we bought at the same time and this week, both of our phones are showing weird battery behavior. She is running stock ICS, and I'm running Slimbean 4.2.2 and our phones reboot occasionally and lose the remaining battery power. Just now, I had 70%+ battery left, crash+reboot and now I'm at 1% instantly. It just started happening this week for both phones, which seems a little bit more than just a coincidence. Anyone know what's going on here?

Just an update, I bought two new OEM batteries and so far both phones have been working fine. Physically comparing the old and new batteries, it's clearly visible that the old ones bulged out quite a bit and looked "puffy".
It is the dust accumulated inside the usb port that has caused a short circuit of those pins. The phone will lose battery very fast and weird things will happen. Use a fine toothbrush and rub the usb port to clean out those dust and the phone will be back to normal. This happens to my N7000 and this i717 before.
