E970 - E971,73,75 camera swap - AT&T LG Optimus G

Hello, If there is one thing missing with the LG E970, it is the camera. The E975 E973 E971 Models has a 13 mp camera and is similar in size with the E970.
Is it possible to install the E975, E973,E971 13mp Camera in the E970? If so it would be a great add to the quad processor on the E970:fingers-crossed:
Would appreciate any info on this, thanks.

You mean like physically swapping the hardware? I'm not sure, maybe. Although it would require a lot of work. I know it's not possible by swapping the apks though.

physically the hardware. They look very similar and i know the camera comes off pretty easy on the phone so possibly can be plug and play if they match. Although i wonder if there can be a mod made to use the 13mp on the phone.
(Sidenote, back on the galaxy s a mod was made to add front facing camera on the phone. So maybe it is possible)

Yeah I remember the Captivate had a front facing camera that was just painted black. We don't have a lot of hardware related mods out for the LGOG. Maybe you gave someone an idea to look into.

That was the Vibrant (T-Mobile S1). I remember that because I tried on my Captibvate but there was no physical room for the camera. If the captivate had more RAM, I'd still have that phone right now

It probably was, both phone were so identical. It's hard to remember. I still have my Cappy. Its running the latest stable CM10.1. I'm amazed with how well the phone still runs considering its specs.

I hope someone can dig in and investigate it. Would be nice to have a 13mp camera with quadcore. Really it should be against the law to have a 8mp camera on a quadcore phone

Getting it to work wouldn't be a problem. It's a simple edit that needs to be made in the kernel. The rest of the code is there. I've thought about doing this mod myself

I would make a donation for the mod. Do you think the E971 camera will fit the E970 hardware?

That I wouldn't know until I had the camera in my hands and seen them side by side. The would need the same dimensions and the same pin out on the ribbon to work.

E970, E971, E973 all have 8 MP cameras.
E975/6/7 and LS970 have 13 MP cameras.
Don't know about the Korean versions, but I think they have 13 MP.
IOW, you'd be swapping identical cameras by using the Canadian variants. Lol

I had an LS970 lying around and it appears the connector for the camera on the LS970 is a bit longer than the E970.

can u add pictures plz?

I would like to see the comparisons between the two cameras, are the pins longer or is it the outer piece thats longer?
Update: I just seen the two connectors and I believe the ls970 has 15 pins and e970 has 12. So it won't fit from phone to phone.
Any Ideas if it can be moified to fit and work? Maybe swap pin part and band somehow ?It's a stretch but who knows I seen stranger things happen.

I have an E971 in my hands right now. I can guarantee that it does not have a 13 MP camera. Neither of the Canadian models (E971, E973) do.

Yeah i think the korean models have have the 13mp and need some kind of modification to fit in the e970

I think this shows 13mp with it protruding out of back of case.

Got a chance to work on an e970 and ls970 at work and snapped these if they helps. 12 pin for e970 (first 2 images) 15 for ls970, surrounding components/board layout are also different.

A friend of my swapped the camera of my old E971 and has 13 mp camera in it.
But the camera is not working.
I am going to try to flash a E975 kernel and see if it works.

The 5.5" screen is way too big for me. However I like the other changes they made with it (like the faster processor, better battery, etc). The higher PPI doesn't bother me too much, I can't see the pixels in this display anyways.
I heard that its supposed to compete with Note 2 not the S3 because of the 5.5 inch display, But I cant stand a screen that size,If that was the case i wouldve purchased the note 2
Meh I've heard about it but, I'm locked in contract for 2 years and don't want a bigger phone.

A bit irksome that the Pro launches with JB while the regular version is still stuck with ICS. I'd like that proxy security update.
Well, too be fair the LG OG *does* have JB in Korea... Which is where the Pro is launching first too...

Qualcomm doesn't do pure ARM designs. They always customize them. I'm pretty sure it's just a new stepping and clock speed bump.

Eh on this phone, I've noticed no difference whatsoever. On my GS3, there might have been a slight difference, but ICS runs crystal clear on this phone as does JB (at least for me).

The Pro is a Note 2 competitor, not an s3 competitor. The s4 will likely combine the note and the s series, according to rumor, but the Pro and OG will still be viable. IMHO, anything beyond 5" is too big. And anything below 4.3 is too small.

I think I might be going back to my G Pro in day to day performance it seems my G Pro does better.
The Screen on my G Pro is a LOT better as well not sure if I can get used to the back button but for some reason my G Pro feels better in the hand and I have small hands.
Anyone else returning the phone?

You just made it that much harder for me to decide... But in 1 hour I have to have my mind made up...

No comparison. Get the G2, way better than the Pro.
Funny we were playing with some G Pro's yesterday at work along side my G2 and getting everyone's opinion between the two.
The G Pro's screen is definitely beautiful, I would say very comparable to the G2. I say they are both on the same level quality wise. I want the G Pro's blueberry background picture btw, it really makes the screen pop. At this PPI density (400 vs 441 I think?) it's hard to tell between the two, they are both exceptionally sharp and bright.
Really like the color notification on the G Pro's home button, very nifty. Love the removable back cover, expandable memory and removable battery.
Speed wise they both feel similar in daily use but I did notice a few places where the G Pro would stutter and lag a bit where the G2 would rip through it. I also noticed a few areas where the G Pro's software seemed more polish, like the lockscreen. On the G2 if you unlock it real fast sometimes the screen swipe effect doesn't render the unlock animation correctly(just shows a black blob), no such problems with the G Pro, I'm sure LG would iron it out in some software updates. Camera wise the G2 definitely took the better pictures. Sound quality wise the G Pro is definitely louder than the G2.
As far as I can tell, the G Pro is definitely an awesome device and I can see if you own one there isn't much of a compelling reason to upgrade to a G2 unless you like a slighter faster experience, better camera, and smaller form factor.

Galaxy Mega Sucks :/ The Screen is terrible such a low resouliton smaller than than the 4.7inch HTC One screen.. And its a low end device seems slow to me with nothing at all installed.
I have both (hi hyelton), and there's a fine line between both of them. Matter of fact, the only determining factor would be the size - either you want a phablet or a 'phone'.
Beyond that, they're nearly alike.
Well I think if it had regular volume and power buttons I think I would take it! I think thats why I dont like it is the way Im having to hold it

I purchased Monster M7 a few days ago and I really like it. But I have two problem:
1/ As Monster advertised it have 5 Mpx size for rear camera. But in-built application indicate 3 Mpx only.
2/ Front-facing camera just not working! It's unbelieveable! In-built application doesn't find it!!!
I always knew this company as a pattern of quality! I sent email them & waiting for comprehensive answer.

About 3 Mp - I had the same issue and asked Monster Support about ([email protected]). They answered — The 3 megapixel is simply a firmware error and at this time we do have an update available which solves the camera’s megapixel issue. If you’d like to try this update you would require a computer running Windows & we’ll email you step by step simple instructions. Would you like to try? So I'm waiting from them this update. Bought a G2 in October a few weeks after launch - great phone but I always change phones after about 6 months. Normally I'd have waited until after Mobile World Congress to sell but this was such a good deal for a nice device that I jumped a bit early. Now I have a phone I can tolerate for a little bit along with plenty of cash for the next big thing. Maybe the G2 Pro or something.
The lg g flex it looks pretty sick. I wonder what iPhone people feel since they always change to the same phone
I am going to buy g3, pro 2, and the flex to see which of the 3 I will like the best. Then I'll have 2 phones for sale. I currently have a g2, of and the og pro. As far as lg products are concerned I didnt like the s4 so I sold it. Phones are getting cheaper for lg compared to Samsung. Also I got a 3.00 pay raise so these new phones got affordable.

g3, pro2 and flex ? are you saying LG is releasing 3 similar phones at once ? maybe i can buy g2 or the pro off of you when you are ready for your upgrade

Well as it stands I currently have the e970/e980 and the g2. I will buy the other 3 when they are out and about. I will sell my g pro and g2. The e970 has a cracked digitizer up in the corner but works fine. I mill through phones very fast. Wife gets annoyed when I buy extra phones for Pandora or media remotes. So I often have 1-2 of each device.

I have an e970, been looking around for a g2 for a while now. It may be a few more months until g flex and whatever else makes it out. It'll be cool if we can make out a deal on the g2 when the time comes around
edit: didnt realize G Flex is out already

I paid the 150 and the lg g is a great phone. There isn't anything that really is making me switch. Yeah I love bigger screens but I am OK with that size. I was gonna get a moto g. But new for a lg g 150 or even 200 is the much much better deal. The lg g is a better phone. The moto g is great but for the same price u or less get the better lg g. Just not much cases for the G version from att.

I can't make up my mind between the moto g and Optimus g. Which has the better camera? Which has more bloatware?

Go with the lg og you wont be disappointed. The moto g is a nice phone but is a downgrade in comparison to the og with aosp or stock. You can always root then debloat stock and have the lg goodies. Plus 2gb of ram over the motog's 1gb. 8mp camera(lg) vs 5mp camera(moto). Plus lte on the lg optimus g and sd expansion etc etc.....

Does the lg og camera suck? Does it overheat a lot?

Well the lg g has an 8 mega camera. A better front camera a better processor a better screen not by much but it is better and so what bitter. The lg g does has more bloatware but u can easily root it and put an cm11 ROM or so on it. U get a better speced phone with the lg g in comparison to the moto g. And it is also cheaper then the moto g. Remember the moto g is a phone made as an beginner smartphone the lg g was a flagship device and made for being a high end phone. So there is no question the lg g is better. But the moto g is a great phone but u get the lg g for a insane low price and better specs. And also has the lg g LTE and NFC what the moto g does not have.

The way I see it other than the android version lo og out classes moto g in every way... just sayin. Also the lg og may feel like it gets hot but its the fact it has a glass back. Makes the device feel hotter than most devices.

[Q] Worth upgrading to OG?

Hey OG users, I'm currently an HTC Sensation 4G / T-Mobile user looking for a good low-cost used phone to upgrade to.
Is the Optimus G a good phone right now?
I like the idea of the OG because:
T-Mobile LTE and HSPA+ is supposedly supported
It's a sister phone with the Nexus 4 so all Google's hardware driver updates should be able to be ported
It HAS AN SD CARD SLOT
It's got all the specs I want (HD screen, Quad Core, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM)
It has OFFICIAL CM11. (How is that? Stable? Works well? I'm running an unofficial build on my senni and it's fantastic.)
Battery is fairly easily user-replaceable for when it degrades after a while.
IT'S BETTER THAN MY INCREDIBLY LOW RAM/ROM SENSATION.
I would probably use it for 18 - 30 Months and I don't want to spend more than $200 on an upgrade so this would be perfect. (I think)
Any advice you can give me? Would you would recommend this phone?
Thanks!
The vast majority of people have failed to get tmo lte. Other than that it works like a charm.

Official cm 11 for this device runs well..but I speak only of experience running official builds on the e970 (geeb) ...currently there's a M4 build, and a RC3 if I'm not mistaken. Nightlies are maintained by shelnutt2 ( I think)...I haven't heard anything about replacing the battery. That's a first for me,but I've only had the LGOG for a month. I came from the note i717 forums

Yeah that's the one I was talking about, the I found by going to Cyanogenmod.com
So it does run well? That's good to hear.
And I've never actually run official nightlies before, I've always used unofficial builds (since they're for newer versions of CM than the official versions are) that are more like weeklies and I do a full wipe about every 4th update since they say we shouldn't Dirty Flash. I can't imagine not dirty flashing on a ROM updated every night!
How do they deal with dirty flashing on nightlies? Don't residual problem arise? Or when they do, do they ask to do a full wipe before reporting it to make sure it's really there?
I'm not sure If I'd prefer to do the M builds only or Nightlies.
Thanks for your reply!

Sweet, that's my least cared about desire for the phone.
Do it man. I had the g pro for a few days. Now returning it and coming back to this. ( the one I had was beat up which ruined the experience a little bit ) this may sound weird but the 5.5 inch screen somehow didnt seem as cozy .. I may buy a better condition g pro but this really isn't bad at all
The sensation was an awful phone, got it when it released, then went back to my my touch 4g. Any phone released in 2012 is better than it, even the SGSII.

Some more than others, my sensation has been pretty fun over the last 18 months. but I think its time for a new adventure! Haha.
I just bought a phone with a "clean esn, cracked back, fuzzy camera, everything else works fine" OG for $71 on eBay, and ordered a new back for $24. If the back clears up the camera as well then I got a $95 upgrade!
If I don't like it I can always resell.
We'll see what happens in a few days when it arrives.

Yeah, I can't see myself using a phone larger than 5", MAYBE the G2, but 5.5"+ is way to big.
Though I'm probably going to upgrade my mom in a few months to the note 2 since it has a pen. We'll see.

S-pen is pretty neat stuff
I had the galaxy note i717, I rarely even used the S-pen...I pretty much stay on cm ROMs though, don't really go back to stock to often.

Depends on the person/device.
I have no interest in the Galaxy line with the burn in prone AMOLED; no interest in the HTC One 2013, do to a terrible button layout, and impossible to replace battery; no interest in phablets, too big.
If someone gifted one to me I may use it, but I'd likely sell it for another cheaper phone and pocket the difference

That would be my case as well, but my Mom's had a phone with a stylus in the past and I'm fairly certain she'd use it.

I told myself I'd never get a phablet but I ended up doing so. When I purchased the SGN i717...the size has its pros/cons...I wouldn't of gone any ****** than the 5.5 inch screen though. The Galaxy Mega is way to big, AFAIK there isn't another phone bigger right now other than the Mega...Most phones seem to be going for the 4.7-5.5 inch sizes...

The g pro 2 is gonna be 5.7 ? I'm looking forward to trying it out in att stores
The real estate is nice...the display looks great and playing games feels great with a larger screen...LGOG suits my screen size though. I'm not a huge gamer type anyhow...
