I recently installed the latest version of Cyanogenmod Android version 4.3.
Everything seems to be working fine, texts calls and wifi BUT the data connection.
I can't get data working.. I tried reflashing the rom several times, that didn't work. It says (OUT OF NEIGHBORHOOD) underneath the data sign in the notification center. It gives me a weird error saying "DATA ROAMING" Your network cannot connect or something like that.
PLEASE HELP ME. It's my first time on this ROM and it looks great, but I need data..:crying:

Seems like an obvious solution but under Settings, then Mobile Networks, is Data enabled? Also what is checked for "Preferred Network Type"? People on VZW seem to be saying that "Global" should not be checked and instead it should be ""CDMA+LTE/EVDO."
Outside of that, I am not sure what could be going wrong.....sorry.

My friend has an HTC Droid Eris and it was running slow so she did a factory reset through the settings menu and after that she said her phone ran a lot smoother and faster but there's one problem. Her internet is not working and her multimedia messaging isn't working. what should she do to get this fixed? She is on stock 2.1 and her phone is not rooted. Thanks in advance for the help!

If your friend performed a factory reset using the stock 2.1 software then the activation status of the phone was also cleared, and the phone needs to be reactivated.
Dial *228 and select option 1 when prompted.
Well her texts and calls and everything is working. Just not the mms and internet

Text and calls => 1x/RTT
MMS and Internet => Mobile Network
Perhaps she inadvertently toggled off the Mobile network? ( The stock ROMs have a toggle for it not only using either the HTC widget and the Android "Power Controls" widget, but also at the long-press of the End/Power button. )

I'm going to her house in a little bit so I will try both solutions

I tried both solutions, neither of them worked. Should I just root her phone and put a custom rom on it?

I'm guessing some of the data settings somehow got wiped out.
It may be a good idea to call up verizon and get someone in tech support or take the phone to a store. (Not that I don't want to help, there could be a number of problems going on here.)
If data will not work on stock then it will not work for a custom rom.

You could try re-performing the F/R on the off chance something strange happened - and if the mobile network does not come up, call Verizon repair. I would pursue that course of action before I started rooting a phone that seemed to not be working with stock software.

I figured that I can't be the only one having this issue but I did a few searches and did not find any threads specifically addressing this issue.
Every time I try to use S-Voice (and it needs to access any info) I get the 'Network Error' Please Try Again' message. I did a Google search and have not found anything helpful. Has anyone else here encountered this or found a fix?
(and FWIW - it was working when I first got the phone but just in the last few days it has stopped)
Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi guys. I'm running latest CM9 nightly 20120722. For some reason I have no mobile signal at all - Wifi is working great however! I have called my network carrier and there are no problems on their end. I have wiped cache/dalvik, flashed numerous modems (currently on LPX), rebooted plenty of times, fixed permissions and even reset the device, all to no avail. If somebody could please help I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you checked your APN settings in Network to confirm that there is one installed? If you have just flashed CM9, there is no APN installed. You need to manually configure it for your network. Google the APN settings for your provider, or call your provider to get them.

Been on CM9 for sometime - this just happened randomly the other day. I flashed the latest nightly to see if that fixed it, but it didn't. I'll check out my APN settings now, but I'm sure they were ok before I flashed the nightly.

You do not have any connection at all? No phone, no text, no mobile internet? Or do the Phone and text work, but not mobile internet.

Thanks for the quick reply. Already tried all those options and unfortunately they don't help.

Have you tried flashing back to original firmware to see if the problem persists on that as well? To me it sounds like you lost the data inside your efs folder, containing the imei and stuff.

I thought that was maybe the problem also, but I still have my imei number in phone status. Will try to set it back to stock to see if that helps. Thanks

How did you know your sim card wasn't working? did you ask for a new one?

Well it connects, try a reset or even flashing a stock rom again, (4.1.1 from http://www.sammobile.com/)
and it doesn't hurt to check IMEI.

Well connection seems fine, might be a good time to call the carrier and see if they disabled data or something.
Have you tried another SIM that is known to have data?
anyone try tethering after kitkat update with foxfi? they constantly wartn you it can go away
thanks
xsalemx posted in the 4.4.2 update discussion thread (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658480&page=31) that the update broke FoxFi.
I am on stock, unrooted MK2, and I have Unlimited Data. I am holding off on taking the OTA until there is a working tethering app for it.

Haven't heard anything concrete yet. I went ahead and rooted, and froze an SDM app. I cant afford to lose FoxFi. Hopefully this works.
Edit: Just saw on another Forum that the KitKat update will indeed negate FoxFi from working.
The release of FoxFi today now supports WiFi under KitKat on the Verzion Galaxy S4, if that's any help.

I can confirm that. Tested and working. Only thing is, you have to set up a pin/password lockscreen

I have found that if you have a backup way of getting in to your phone past the PIN, you can make the "mistake" of messing up your pin too many times, and use the backup method to remove it so you can "set it again". Do not set it, and you can keep the certificate with no PIN. Not sure if this works on KitKat, but it did on 4.3 Jelly Bean Build MK2.
As long as you don't have the option to wipe your phone if you try the PIN too many times, anyway. Hah common sense, but disclaimer none the less.
foxfi works!
Went all weekend with out wifi tethering....today there is a foxfi update, that makes it work.
Edit:....I did not have to set a pin. It said to 'go to settings and manually turn on mobile hotspot with in 30 seconds'.
I didnt do it in time the 1st time and it didnt work. 2nd time it worked when I did it quickly....
Whenever I turn tethering on via Bluetooth (only working method atm) it switches my APN to EHRPD - Verizon Internet from LTE - Verizon Internet. Even if I manually switch it back to LTE it'll auto switch back to EHRPD. The problem is EHRPD is only connecting me to 3G and I really don't want to browse the internet with speeds of 0.50 MB/s.
Would it be safe to delete the EHRPD APN? or is there any other way of stopping it from switching?
No idea here. I have never looked at APN settings. Tethering via WiFi works fine for me.
FoxFi Lockscreen Fix!
I may have a solution to all this FoxFi Lockscreen issue...See my thread at:

Hope this helps!
I uninstalled foxfi and removed the certificate. I can't change back to a pattern or swipe lockscreen. Here's what my choices are:
