[Q] GPS - HTC EVO 3D

I dont have sprint anymore as a service provider but i was wondering how do I get the GPS to work like a normal GS so far I have tried and im not sure if I need a rom that will let me use the Phone as a standup GPS

Google maps, but if you don't have service i don't think it'll work.
Let us know if you find one

Load up google maps while on wifi and download the map sections you plan on using.
I don't know if it will still allow directions but it will at least let you find your location and show the map

Looks like I would have to do some pre-planning before traveling

If you are on another cdma service provider you could always flash your 3vo over and use it. Otherwise I use a wifi hotspot.

Apps like Copilot live and others in the Play Store lets you download all the maps for a country onto an SD card while you are on WiFi so you don't need a data connection while driving. The app is free buy you have to pay in app for the offline maps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alk.copilot.mapviewer

Aura is also a good one (a little bit expansive but do its job)

Navigon also has good offline Navigation. Not the cheapest solution but worth every $

Won't do it with Grandfathered Unlimited Data plans... anyway, by looking at data usage they can see if you are tethering or not no matter what app you use to do it. LOL.
$15 for a feature that's suppose to be free no thanks, I may work for T-Mobile but I'm not paying extra for something thats is a froyo feature by default.

'Can see' and 'will see' are 2 different things my friend
as long as TMO makes a decent buck on the masses, we here in root land should be ok.

Some people are getting Text Messages from T-Mobile stating that they have "some how" picked up that they are tethering via the Google Code, and the native applications and are asking for $15 fee for doing it. there is a thread floating around here somewhere on it.

even though the native Application has a WEP code input option. the Wi-FiTether.apk has a MAC address white listing option along with encryption options so it will only allow certain devices to connect to yours. which i really like. I've been driving down the highway doing 65mph and had people try to connect to my wi-fi that i am letting my wife use for her netbook.
MAC filtering will not allow them to get to the web....
thats my reason for wanting it.
I just use the one built into my phone, they don't charge me and it works great...
Does anyone have the APK of the one that came with the phone? I'm not on stock rom and would like to try the original one
Well in all regards it's a good thing I searched on this subject before I posted anything. In any case does this app let you limit your bandwidth when using it as a wi-fi hotspot? or is there any app that will let me limit my speeds when using the wi-fi?

I've not seen an app that throttles bandwidth being used via the app.

Any good satnav programs?

Can anyone recommend (paid or free) that works correctly with the Amaze and has active (live) traffic?
I've paid for Copilot but it freezes all the time requiring a phone reset to get it working again. It was so bad i thought it must be my phones GPS unit but I tried google navigation and that worked just fine.. trouble is it seems a bit basic, data heavy and doesn't seem to have active traffic for road accidents..
Cheers.
Google maps. I have tried a few diff ones and keep coming back to google maps. The only real downfall is if you try to start navigation, and you don't have a internet connection. Otherwise its great.
Is there a specific set of features you are looking for?
Telenav was out before gmaps and is an okay alternative. There are some others that allow predownload of entire regions

Are you on GB or ICS? I have Copilot 8 and it FCs on ICS. Worked great on GB.
I now use Sygic and works well on ICS.

GB.. Try ** navfree ** On market its an open source community for years..
Works fine in Canada... Don't let your screen sleep during the map download

yeah, i use navfree, usa version. Works like a charm

Google maps does it all. You can click Settings > Labs > Pre-cache map area if you are traveling a long route and you think you may lose signal. Otherwise it has live traffic and voice turn by turn, all free. I will try navfree since you guys mentioned it though. Always a fan of open-source projects!
Google maps FTW
You can cache map areas....
If you hate the default navigation voice, try out svox

It runs for a reason. Its the location provider. Any apps that request you location (IE Facebook, Flixster, Groupon), Android uses google maps to find you.
Copilot 8 was ok on stock GB on my telus Amaze but I just flashed the stock Tmobile ICS and found it wouldnt work at all so i switched to Copilot Live Pro 9 which i would highly recomment as its a significant improvement on 8 - i had to pay $4.95 for the Canadian Map but that didnt bother me too much seeing as i didnt pay for the main app itself.

To sync yes, but not to use. All the info goes through the sellers pay pass, just like a credit card.

It needs internet. If I use wallet on 3g it takes awhile to go through due to sprints slow internet. The card might connect to your phone and share data through it once u sync it

Yes, 100% sure. Used it with data off & underground in a train station with no network service.
Tell the McD's cashier you're using credit before hovering, also pin unlock wallet once you enter the store.

Yes. I tried it myself. Turned the radio and wifi off and used it buy lunch at Sheetz.
My normal checking account bank card has NFC. What's stored on the card is just your account number and some other identifying items. That's also whats stored on the phone. whenever you swipe your card or bump your phone, the merchants system pulls your info from the card or phone and somehow confirms it's legit. I think that's how it works. So all your phone is doing is giving the merchant your account info. The merchant's system does the rest.

Roam Only mod

Hello I was hopping to get some help on the Roam Only mod. There are many roms that I wish to make my daily driver, but most of these roms do not provid the Roam only mod. This mod is very essensial to my daily needs because I live in the mountains where the reception is god awful. I'm not experienced at all enough to add this mod, and would like to know if there was a flashable way to add this? Or perhaps an app that allows this? I remember hearing about an app, but from what I read that app is no longer avalible.
Do a Google search for an app called Roam Control. Works like a dream, is still available, and costs about 5 bucks. I've been using it for a couple years now.

Just pull phone.apk from a rom you dont like with that mod and put it on your phone. Profit.
Roam Control works.

Location service off by a couple hundred miles.

As the title says my location service, both Google and VZW say I'm about 2.5 hours south of where I actually am.
Any way to recalibrate it or is it a network issue of some sort?

Typically a RUU, get a GPS lock then flashing whatever ROM you want.
I think if you dont allow the google and verizon tracking service i mean location service you will get really far off results

Very jokingly, well duh. Yes I have both turned on and even tried them separately. Also I'm on stock not rooted currently.
I'll try a GPS lock today and see what happens.
