I'll be honest, I was hoping the one was going to be released sooner and prolly would have gotten it if it came out before the s4. Don't get me wring, I like my s4. But now that the one is coming in a couple of days I'm thinking about getting it.
My only two concerns are battery like and Verizon locking it down. I've read some reviews that the battery is terrible and some that its OK.
I'm a total crackflasher and if its locked down, that alone would prolly make me not get it.
Just wondering what you all think. I mean spec wise they're pretty similar.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
I'm in the same boat as you. My upgrade was available and I was to impatient to wait for the one. Since getting the s4, I have really grown to like it and I like a lot of the features it brings to the table. I haven't actually had the one on my hands to play with it but I've watched a lot of reviews and ultimately I'm happy with the s4.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Yeah its a tough decision. I've played with it and like the design, but if you put a case on it, which I will, that becomes a moot point. I did like the new sense interface. Blinkfeed looks pretty cool as well as the zoe feature. Of course thise prolly destroy the battery too!!
Specs are fairly similar, and honestly a bit better for the s4. Like I said, the battery reviews concern me about the one and Verizon locking it down.
I wonder if a Dev edition would come out.

The HTC One is a great device, but the fact that once again Verizon is only offering a 32GB (at launch) tells me they are dragging out the 64GB later on or not at all and it really does benefit from the extra storage space. The Front Facing Speakers do kick ass.

Also I noticed on the the FCC spec sheet AWS LTE was not listed as a radio band. That was my reason for no longer waiting for HTC ONE and getting the Galaxy S4.

I have no issues with battery life, with very heavy use. I unplugged at 5am this morning, and after pretty heavy use all day I'm at 14% now. With light use (such as when I'm at school), unplugged at 5am will still be over 90% at 2:30.

I believe it is something Verizon plans on rolling out this year. I believe it could potentially double bandwidth speeds. I figured, few devices support it and for the HTC ONE to drop the ball on this is too bad. I really did want the HTC ONE over the S4. But when the FCC spec sheet came out and 32GB S4 released, made my decision easy.

But from reading this forum I'm getting nervous. How's everyone's battery life? Is the overheating battery and 3-4 hour battery life after it over heats common? Screen staying on while charging normal??? I am coming from a droid inc2 and I think I'm ready for a different brand but I get really nervous lol. $200 is a lot of cash for me and I really don't want to regret spending it. Someone tell me not to buy it or everything will be fine lol. Any feedback back would be much appreciated.

I got mine about 3 weeks ago and haven't looked back. Even though I broke the screen and had to replace it.
Now down to the battery, I plug mine in at 11pm and plug it out at about 6:30 to 7:00am I use it all day for calls, email, twitter, Facebook, xda and lots of other things. Basically I'm on it all day and by the end of the day I have about 20-23% left.
On the odd occasion I will plug it in during the day for about an hour but really it's not needed.
Go for it, you won't regret getting it.

My only question is if they'll have a CDMA version on Verizon. I switched to Verizon from ATT because of poor signal and lack of 3G in my area. T-Mobile is even worse. Verizon is by far the best carrier in my area. If they are only releasing a GSM version, I guess I'll be skipping this one.

No difference in specs? way better screen, twice the RAM, better camera, newer gen processor. Specs are a lot better. The kicker will be whether anyone will dev for it. Since it will be stock android, it should run great out of the box, without LG being able to jack it up.
Agreed with everything except wondering if devs will dev for it. Its a nexus so that's a guarantee.

Non-expandable storage is absolutely fatal. If it had 32gb fixed, I could deal with it, but 8gb and 16gb? Sod off. Nice specs, though. If it has a fixed battery that's also a major negative. Need to see more companies taking the maxx approach: make a thin phone, then use the space savings for a huge battery.
What are your thoughts now that we have an official announcement? For me, I wasn't planning on getting this Nexus anyway, and seeing no LTE makes me glad that I'm not in a position to get it this year.
I was heavily upset with hearing that it's currently only a GSM/HSPA+ device..... I am totally down for getting one, if they make a CDMA/LTE version but it's so not worth switching to Tmobile or AT&T... I still have unltd data on vzw
If it had options like 32 or 64 gb I could deal with the non removable battery and lack of lte if i was on tmobile or something.

They've had a few. The Spectrum has almost identical specs as the Rezound.
How does everyone feel about this device? I'm a year away from an upgrade so I won't be getting it, that and its not on Verizon. I really love the look of the phone, and I like Sense, just not that new UI screen.

After the Rezound I'm officially done with HTC for good, if it want for the developer community we (luckily) have I would have bought a GNEX off contract. It's not just the Rezz either, from the thunderbolt to the One X and S HTC is consistently lagging behind. Finally and most importantly they diffuse to keep yo with android as a whole, were the years into on screen nav keys and HTC still continues to use causative buttons ( so much more screen room, still on that ugly ass green color when the blue is much more inviting it also clashes with Google apps. It looks like Motorola and sammy have finally stepped it up so that's where I am going.

Samsung has been on the ball the last few phones they have released yes the charge was an abysmal failure but as of late moto and Sammy are leaps and bounds over HTC which is a dam Shame because I love their cameras, radios, screens, and design.

If it's true that a VZW version will drop as the DNA+ in a couple of months, that will be my next phone. Identical specs to the One and it's supposed to have microSd card support as well. Basically, what the DNA should have been in the first place.

No way. Not doing the ril stuff anymore. Really delays Rom development.
Rezound, s-off, loving it.
Pretty tempted to go with Sammy for the next phone too..ive done the Moto/LG/HTC experiences..guessing its about time for me to join the sheep of the Android world and get a Galaxy (unless the rumored Moto X phone is really something beastly). Hope the SGS4 won't disappoint, not a fan of their design and build quality but hard to be disappointed with their hardware and software. I'll probably still be on the Rez for a bit longer anyway though..VZW will probably lag way behind again in releasing the SGS4, and I hate paying full upgrade pricing when I can wait 2 or 3 months and have the price halved or even better. Still love the Rez in its own right. I never had any real complaints about the Rez (and yes, especially because of the amazing devs we have here) but I hope my next phone is 1. Lighter (it's about the same weight as my old Droid 2 for god's sake) 2. is considerably better on battery life. Camera/reception/screen etc. I think have always been fantastic on this device.
I am VERY curious though to see a battery test on the HTC One..battery seems like it's fairly decent in capacity, but I wonder how much more (if even) that new cpu will get out of it.

I'm not understanding this. HTC is a failing company because they are failing the consumers that were once loyal. My first phone was the DINC and I love that thing, I still love my Rezound as well it's a great phone and I got so much more than with the GNEX and RZR. HTC even began unlocking boot loaders for those who wanted I was really high on my HTC horse but the more and more I hear about the update problems HTC is having while others are moving forward clearly shows that buying a new HTC device is a gamble. I mean the RAZR is getting OFFICIAL JB. Another thing to consider the incredible 4g came out after the Rezound with worse specs and that was it until the DNA came out? They move a step forward them two steps back it makes no sense. I will say however Motorola is also guilty of this in Some ways with the max line just like HTC + lines. Samsung is winning the battle because sadly they are just ding it properly. I hope I see HTC make strides over the year because I will be leaving Verizon sooner rather than later. Pretty sure I'm going to switch to T-MO everything unlimited plan no contacts or carrier chains sounds amazing and new nexus devices whenever I feel like it straight from Google. Sounds like heaven.

I wish phone makers and carriers would stop pushing that cloud crap. Only reason phone makers likes it is because they can stop putting a SD slot in save money and then charge the same price. The carriers likes cloud because with no more unlimited plans on many of the carriers. That means more people will run the risk of going over and they can charge outrageous overage fees.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Non removable battery or if the phone doesn't have more that 32 gigs no sale. I don't believe in the cloud for all my data or my music. I don't like to use the cloud for privacy reasons and it drains my battery faster. Only cloud I use is my own or ssh to my own computer and get files that way. I do like this phone but my rezound experience has been less than stellar. Thinking I'll give Samsung a try on there next phone.

We have an amazing phone, it's more powerful than all of the phones out right now, has decent battery life, decent reception, and doesn't look half bad - it's the tail end of the last generation of phones. It's nothing to be ashamed of. And we'll have a fully working CM very soon too. Yeah, the One is nice and all, but really this phone is a beast that's gonna stand on its own for quite a while. Top-of-the-line phones always lose their crown eventually.
yeah, we couldn't order DNA's anymore back in my store lol...guess she's dunzo.
I like my DNA. I don't think its worth it to get an HTC One because the screen is smaller, and no QI wireless charging(But when will i ever use it?) The DNA seems to be almost the same size. I can care less about the front speakers, but more storage is better. My DNA is smooth enough. The One's camera seems cool, and UI looks nice(but we may get an update). Hopefully we get a DNA+ instead.

To answer a question above yes we will still see updates. The og incredible and charge got an update recently for crying out loud and those have been retired for over a year. More storage would be nice but now not a deal breaker. Do you really want to play the "maybe i'll wait just a few more months for this newer phone to come out" game?
I'm sure the GS4, and HTC One are great, but DNA seems just as impressive ( based on video reviews of all ). Once Verizon releases sense 5 for it being rooted won't make a difference.
Rezound to DNA was an amazing upgrade, so much more battery life, NO HICCUPS, and an even more gorgeous screen that can be on for 4-5 hours compared to 1 hour, lets not forget 24/7 4G without battery drain.

No, I don't. But I also don't want an "outdated" phone.. that's why I'm getting ppls opinions and what they think. Especially the ppl that have the DNA

And yes I know new things come out all the time and its hard to keep up. But is it worth it to spend that kind of money on a phone that in a few months will be beaten by something else?? Is it worth the money at this time? Or wait for something better? .. I know near x-mas there will be another awesome phone, and I will have an upgrade then to get it.. but for now, is it worth the money to spend on the DNA when in a few months there will be something better????

Just wait for the DNA-HIV, it will be sick (pardon he pun).
And yes, there will always be a newer and better phone on the horizon. Just get one that at least has staying power, ie fastprocessor, lota of ram, and a good screen.

Just be prepared to jtag it.
DNA is a great device, I switched between this and my GS3 before I sold it and was extremely happy to come back to the DNA. Root would have been a deal breaker for me but since I unlocked and rooted before I took the OTA updates I was able to root again on the newest update. HTC has also always always (I don't care what anyone tells you) had better overall reception and not just with service and 4G but with WiFi Bluetooth too. My GS3 sucked when it came to getting strong signal and I doubt the GS4 will be any better with it, Samsung has always lacked in that department.

Yea, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get tomorrow.. rooted is good, but its not gonna stop me from getting a device cuz I can't root yet. I know how good the devs are here at xda, so I know its just a matter of time... I remember buying the evo 3d and HTC saying the bootloader was unhackable.. but our devs did it.. so I have faith in the xda devs ... Thanks guys

No. Root ( practical root not ****ing # who am I?) Will never be achieved through software means. If some uber geek figures out how to do some sort of ground out through USB (impossible) then maybe.
Don't get a DNA. Seriously

Ok Mr know it all, why will it 'never' be possible to do it through software means.

Cause no one with the required knowledge gives a **** about the DNA.
Our devs are great but, we are talking doctorates in applied sciences.
And that'd be Master know-it-all to you.

Just because the people who are working on it aren't posting public updates on what theyre doing doesn't mean it isn't being worked on, and by some pretty damn talented people might I add. Anythings possible. All it takes is for someone to get lucky and find an exploit that lets us get rid of write protection for any amount of time.

I never said anything about updates. I'm on the irc and there is literally nothing that can be done till write protection is broken. I never said they weren't talented either.

And that's what's being worked on, a software exploit to break wrote protection... Once that is accomplished everything else is pretty easy.
