Tablet Z LTE : Camera not available / connected - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there !
Tablet was pure stock , not even rooted when suddenly I couldn't start camera. It would say something that would translate to english like that " Error: camera is not available " or " Error: camera is not connected" .
I already tried:
- Using OTA to update to 4.2.2
- Flashing 4.2.2 using flash tool
- Unlocking bootloader and flashing P.A.C ROM.
- Wiping cache/dalvik cache/ fixing permissions/ wiping everything
- Downgrading to 4.1.1 original Japanese FTF.
- Rooting it and installing DOOMkernel
Nothing helped, still same error, which plaguages nearly every xperia phone/tablet...

I seem to havethe same problem
I have the exact same problem as your tablet, and mine is the 16 gb wifi model (Unlocked, rooted), The camera stooped working a few days ago, while i was running CM11, i assumed it was Kit kat, but the camera was working fine up until it randomly stooped working, so i reverted back to stock 4.2.2 (Flashed the SGP311FR 10.3.1.C.0.136 via Flashtool) and the problem is still there.
Im praying that it isnt hardware damage, due to the roms ive been using, and hope that its definitely software related. Im going to try ubuntu touch now, to see if a completely different os will make it work.

Do not worry guys. I had the exact same problem a few months ago with my SGP321. I tried all the things that you have mentioned above and still did not manage to get the camera working. You will have to be a bit adventurous to solve this issue. It involves opening the back panel of the tablet. There is an official teardown video somewhere on the Sony website which will give you an idea how to open it.
There is a very thin cable that connects the camera on the mainboard. It has probably gone loose. I had dropped my Tab a few times so maybe it must have become loose. Upon opening the back panel I saw that the cable was a bit loose. So i just snapped it back in place and voila the camera turned on. The only headache is that the back panel does not 'feel' waterproof anymore because it was opened. But i managed to glue it back again and since 3-4 months there have been no issues. Hope this helps! :good:

It worked
Thanks aashayjardosh
its quite a easy fix, the camera cable was not clipped in, so it must of fell out due to force (dropped, or thrown). i can say, im quite happy, not only did i fix my tablets camera, but i got to see the insides for myself , for now, i wont be dipping this thing into water any time soon, not untill i get some propper water resistant glue, and properly seal it.

Some custom kernels have a problem with the highest resolution for the front camera due to memory allocation. Go to settings / applications / all and clear data for camera.
Load up the camera switch to the front one and check its working.
If it is don't select the highest resolution for the front camera use the middle one.
If that doesn't work maybe another problem.
Please state what rom and kernel versions you are running, more info the better.

Appears to be a S3 problem specificically, camera failure problems. Google ' galaxy s3 camera failed ' and there are numerous reports ranging.
from only a day old out of the box to a couple of weeks. Some reports of total failure, some hardware restart temporarily fixed, some app sharing hardware such as skype hogging the camera.
I think Verizon in the US are saying return for replacement..
Hope this helps.
Having the same problem. I thought it might have been an app I installed - I uninstalled all apps that used the camera. Still no dice. Did a factory reset. Still no dice.
Called Verizon and explained that I'd already tried a factory reset to no avail. The service rep didn't ask me to do anything else. Because I've full device insurance coverage I'm getting a new phone overnighted and should have it no later than 3pm tomorrow.

I had the same issue and tried factory reset, 3rd party camera apps. nothing worked even updated camera firmware and phone firmware still black screen with camera fail. I took off the battery cover, removed the battery, removed the phillips screws in back. carefully popped off back housing and the camera flex cable is right there. i simply unclipped and reconnected it and made sure the camera was seated tight by pushing on it.(carefully as not to damage lcd). I will say i have no warranty because i bought second hand but the are no void stickers over screws so no way to tell its been opened. camera works perfect now. I repair phones as a hobby and remebered the galaxy one having a speaker issue just like it. anyway worth a shot or if you have a warranty just get a replacement but it took me about 3 minutes,
Camera fail
I would like to update the post with my findings:
Since my last post, I did a warranty exchange on the phone. Upon receiving the new one, I reverted the broken one back to stock through the tutorial on XDA (using a prev leak bootchain, ODIN flash, etc).
All went flawlessly, and after reverted to pure stock, the camera worked again. I re-rooted and re-flashed a variety of ROMs (ASOP & TW). camera worked fine through all of it. It wasn't until I did play store updates that things went bad. After the updates the camera stopped working again. So Once again I flashed back to stock. Camera worked again. I felt comfortable doing this as I could re-produce the problem and solution.
After fooling with app updates etc I determined that the Google Talk / Goog Hangouts update was the culprit. Once that was installled the camera was inaccessible. I have since not taken that update (been a few weeks now) and all is still fine.
moral of the story to folks out there, watch out for the Hangouts update. I dont have any more info than that. Just wanted to share.

I would just like to share my experience, it may help someone... I also had this problem and fixed similar to desc. above... I had taken apart phone and cleaned out mostly all of my connectors because of water damage/corrosion issues.. I suppose I had bent the cam ribbons slightly out of place... this in turn, for some reason maybe somebody with more knowledge can answer, caused the phone to no longer power up or show any sign of life... I could not figure out and ended up paying my deductable for new phone... I knew it was specifically related to me removing the cam because I had already cleaned and got phone to a working state, but the cam didnt work so I took apart again cleaned cam port and voilà my phone stopped powering up completely... wtf! sooooo I just recently went back after reading above, and dramatically bent the cam ribbons to make sure contact was good... now everything works.. ya live and learn

No no I sent the refurb one back to vzw. Had a lot of bad luck with factory refurbs.
i know this may be a necro thread, but I just had the same issue and I solved it by replacing the front facing camera/prox sensor assembly. tried new main cameras first but when those didn't fix it I replaced the front facing and everything worked fine.

I fixed it on my SGH-T999L with Jedi Invasion 5 by flashing this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Use the Touchwiz JELLYBEAN 4.1.2 VERSION
I'm brand new to this forum, but my uncle has been a member since 2008 and says you guys are the best when it comes to helping with problems for Android.
I'm having the camera issue, as well, and it spans across all camera apps, snapchat, Skype, etc. I just now discovered the front facing camera works when before it wouldn't even let me switch to it, making me think both cameras were dead. I've tried a different ROM, kernel, battery pulls, rebooting, everything in the list. I even dismantled my phone and pressed the connection in a bit, and still no luck. (Thankfully I didn't completely wreck my phone, though.) I'm trying switching from a different developer now, since I was using the only two TouchWiz ROMs I could find for my Cricket d2cri, both by the same guy. I'm hoping against hope it's an issue with the guy's programming and that it's not a sudden hardware failure after nearly a year of having the phone.
If anyone happens across this thread and has any ideas that haven't been said as to what I can do, please, throw me a message or respond to the thread. What good is a phone without a camera these days?

I am having the same issue, and I did try many things: revert to stock, changing kernel, try other camera apps, wiping camera app datas, Still nothing, if someone can help with other method please.
I got "camera fail" after i flashed ArchiDroid 1.7.2 coming from PAC nightly. Then flashed ArchiDroid 2.2.4 and camera got fixed. All flashes where clean
In my experience, custom ROMs and kernels can also cause this issue. I flashed a different custom ROM and voila, my camera was working again

hi I was having the same problem with my camera and I installed 3rd party camera software and the camera seem to work using this. I used camera mx
Camera faillled warning
I HAVE THE PROBLEM OF CAMERA FAIL WARNING IN S5 SENSATION ROM
I AM USING S3 Gt i9300 IS THERE ANY SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM
THE CAMERA DOESNT WORK ONLY IN S5 SENSATION ROM
That is usually caused after flashing a custom kernel without having opened the camera app at least once with the stock kernel.
Go back to stock kernel, open the camera and it should work. Now flash the custom kernel and don't do a factory reset or you'll be in the same again
Which kernel you using? If you on 4.4.2 i recommended Archi Kernel.

[Q] Camera Failure / Data Line Fail / ErrorCallback

Hey guys, Im new to the forums and I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with a issue I am having with a i9100.
Basically my sister had one, dropped it in a sink, she sent it off for repair and it was marked as water damaged. She got a new phone so I claimed the water damaged s2 and decided to fix it myself.
I purchased a 2nd hand Mobo of ebay from a Israel seller, when I recieved it it was rooted with 4.0.3 on it, but both the front and the rear camera didnt work, it just freezed the phone. I just taught possible bad flash and decided to try a CM10.1 on to see, camera still didnt work, (I tried the whole wiple cache/ wipe delvik cache/ restore factory settings).
So then i decided to try a Stock 4.1.2, same problems. I have also tried using 3rd party camera apps, and testing using *#0*# (Megacam, front cam) and the same error messages "Warning - Camera failure".
I then decided to try firmwares, by dialling *#34971539# and updating from the root, now This time I got a little bit further. when using the firmwares beginning with "T" the camera app would fully open and I would be able to access menus and settings but the shutter doesnt open. The camera app is slow to respond and when I click to take a photo, it makes the shutter sound and then i get ther error "unknown error by ErrorCallback". This has completely stumped me. When using the *#0*# menu on this firmware, i get the error "Data Line fail"
I have also tried all the above with a different camera, the one from the old mobo, is it possible that BOTH are damaged and worth purchasing a new one?
There has also been a problem with battery discharging very fast, disconnect messages, not turning on, so I assumed the battery was shot and got a new one. Its doing better than the last but still have some of the same problems such as disconnect and just restarting. So im assuming the USB dock ribbon is shot and I have ordered one and should receive it on Monday, is there ANY chance that this could be causing the camera problem?
Also, if I dial *#1234# it says CSC: Unknown, could this be a problem? Basically Im pretty much out of ideas, or just lacking knowledge on what to do next!
Any ideas/input would be very greatly appreciated and thanks for your patience!
(even though I'm new, please don't suggest factory reset, sending it to Samsung warranty for repair, turning it on and off, I believe I have tried the obvious!)

Are my camera modules dead?

My Z Ultra (C6833) was running stock Lollipop, with stock locked boot loader. I.e. the phone was completely stock.
I somehow managed to crack the bottom corner of the screen, which rendered the digitiser useless. I replaced the LCD/digitiser assembly, and have had nothing but problems since. First of all, since installing the new LCD/digitiser, the battery was idling at ~60 degrees, which was killing battery life and made the phone unusable. At this point, I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CyanogenMod CM11. CM11 solved the battery issue straight away (normal idling temperatures and excellent battery life). However, at this point neither of the cameras worked (black screen on opening any camera-using app). The app's controls were functional, but the app would eventually freeze with one of the well-known 'camera not available' etc. errors.
I figured that I may have accidentally left one of the camera's PCB connectors unattached, so reopened the phone to confirm. I downloaded a system profiler app, which clearly showed that both cameras are connected. Given the known camera-related issues with CM11, I figured I'd try another custom ROM. I flashed Resurrection Remix 5.5.9 this morning, which again worked beautifully, but the issues with the camera remained.
My last attempt was to flash stock 5.0.x Sony Android back onto the phone, and then re-lock the bootloader. Again, this whole process worked as planned, but the cameras are still non-functional. Given that the system profiler sees/lists in detail each of the cameras, I'm on the belief that the flex cables/PCB connectors are intact, as the camera modules themselves are communicating with the motherboard.
This is my first foray into custom ROMs and flashing, so please excuse my ignorance. Are there separate drivers for each of the modules, like you'd expect on a computer, or are the drivers combined with the ROM? I.e. could the camera module drivers have been corrupted in some way? All the evidence suggests that there's a software/firmware issue here, not a hardware one.
Given that camera-related issues are common for this phone and custom ROMs, I've been through just about every forum post/video/HOW-TO guide on the matter, so I'm afraid the solution won't be as simple as "clear the camera app's cache and restart the phone in safe mode"
Any input would be great!
Thanks
Does anyone have any ideas? I feel like I've exhausted the software/ROM side of this investigation, so am considering transplanting a motherboard from a second Ultra to try and fix this issue once and for all.
Have you tried to flash a stock ROM and run Sony's diagnostic test?
If that doesn't work its definitely hardware related.

Front camera button missing after updating

Assalamu Alaikum everyone, I bought xperia m4 aqua dual model version e2333 a few months ago, the phone was totally okay, after getting the software update, i though it would improve my performance, so updated and after updating my phone camera started acting weird, and suddenly after a day, the front camera button got missing from camera app, and there is no front camera access in 3rd party apps, its like this phone didnt came up with front camera function! tried to diagnose but not detecting the front camera...im pretty sure its an software issue! what I tried
1)Clearing the camera app data/cache
2)Flashed old stock .ftf, cause i thought old firmware will give my camera function back, but it didnt
3) Xperia companion didnt solve the issue
many will come up here thatws an hardware issue, but before saying that, google about this, cause not only xperia m4 but many devices are facing same kinda issues I cant take selfies now, some please help me out, any advanced solution is welcomed too! i would like to try cm but cm has camera bugs so is there any possible solution? TIA
I have the exact same problem, except that even my back camera stops working sometimes. Factory reset/system repair did nothing to help so I might send it in for repairs (for the 3rd ****ing time). This phone has seriously been nothing but trouble and I really regret buying it :/
Try holding PWR + VOLUP buttons combined for 5+ seconds and switching Xperia device on again.
I have the same issue. I'm using Sony Xperia C5 Dual and it all started by the firmware upgrade. At first the whole camera app won't work including 3rd party cam apps, I've tried clearing the cache, resetting my phone and also using xperia repair app. Fortunately after the xperia companion repair, camera was working again, but it won't show the selfie camera button anymore.. tried to repeat every troubleshooting i've performed before but selfie button is still missing

Could it be related to the TA/DRM keys?

After marshmallow update, the problem isnt fixed yet, whats your status bro?
i have the same problem any solution?
Try phone in Safe Mode if button for front camera will appear. If still not appear then maybe you have hardware problem - front camera is faulty.
There is no software problem with lollipop and marshmallow regarding front camera.
Unlocking of bootloader and rooting of phone don't affect front camera.
Front camera is not available-soluton
I just found a method which worked for me after trying 100-s of methods. I got my phone back from repair, and found out this morning, that my camera app didn't contain the front camera button and Snapchat also didn't offer this. So I started to look after solutions, and then found out my phone was recently repaired, so it might be a problem around there. I thought it was an assembly mistake, and tried to push the area of the front camera lens between my two fingers... I rebooted the phone and it was finally back and working! I was so worried about this, and it luckily worked. I recommend this option, might be useful in some cases.

Did anyone fix this problem?I'm facing the same problem.how can I fix it?
install a app like open camera for the device from playstore
I'm on latest stock MM and I had this strange problem. several reboots fixed it. but then if I reboot the device again the problem came back. dunno what might caused this. maybe a hardware fault? planning on disassembling this device to see if reattach the cam module would fix the issue (as well replacing my back cover and main camera. somehow my main camera just won't focus).

[SOLVED][Xperia M4 E2333] - Startup Logo bootloop or Android continous rebooting

Hi all,
after 3 days of searching, maybe I've found something sounds good, but I'll stay in test mode for a while and I'll keep you in touch in case it is really stable.
What's happend :
3 days ago I did a simple ''factory reset'' and since then I experience a continous reboots after a minute or two alive in Android official 6.0.1 and a bootloops when processor cames really hot.
At this time on internet you can find lots of people with the same issue and all of us without any solutions at all.
Now here the list of my tries :
- Did again a ''factory reset'' with Sony companion and Sony flashtool Emma : no changes
- Call Sony for support? Warranty still okay? : do not waste your time, Sony wants your money and thats it ! (take a try anyway, you will see by yourself)
- So let's root the phone! Even if you do not know what to do, you can find looots of Tutorials and lots of very geek competent guys to help you (better than Sony support anyway), thanks XDA Developers !!!
- Even if I've completely erased all partitions with TRWP, when flashing and back again in stock Android with xperifirm : still no changes !!!
Now, during those tries I've noticed that the temperature of processor is dangerously high, and that for every startup process.
You know, at the end I think that the bootloop (I guess in that case only) it is made by temperature mainboard automatic protection.
Anyway, before to play freesbee with and go to buy a new one, I've tried to :
- open the back side (very simple but all operations should made very carefully)
- unplugged the battery for 15 minutes
- take off processor's metal protection to avoid heat retention
- plugged the battery again
- close the back side and started Android
Since then the phone is still alive !!! Just working as it should...
I'm trying all I can do to stress it to see if any problems happend again, installing back all apps, using Root features to uninstall useless Google or Sony apps, restet the phone several times.
The processor still heat up every time you do something or restart, but I do not experiencing sudden rebooting or bootloops again at the moment.
As far as I'm concerned, I would say as well that it is a processor issue, but I'm not a scientist, so I guess this apply to different Xperia models and not only to M4 Aqua Dual.
DO NOT FORGET that this is not a real solution. I just did the only thing that you cannot normally do with that kind of phone : unplug the battery.
I hope I can give some good ideas to all of you, or maybe a good way to a solution .
Happy to share,
Flaximuss

I'm more interested in your solution, how far it didn't bootloop, etc.
Could you tell me how is your phone doing?
I betrayed my Sony Is there any way to bring it back???

So, I will explain what has happened.
I received a Warning Statin "Unfortunately, Hike as stopped" followed by "Unfortunately Google has stopped" "Unfortunately home has stopped"...
So I shut my phone off, which I used to do every time and restarted it.
My what happened next is something I haven't experienced before.
My Xperia, just displayed "SONY" logo and nothing else. I know to flash and I have done that many times before. So I was lethargic that I could easily bring my sony back to the world. but that didn't happen anyway :crying: :crying:
I read so many threads in XDA but none of them could have faced what I'm facing. Coz my Sony Xperia Aqua M4 will not vibrate so I couldn't able to differentiate Hard and Soft boot.
After waiting for a restless 24hours I tried to open my Sony Xperia Aqua M4 that's when the real problem started...
I found a video that if we remove the battery and reinsert it then everything will be fine.
so, I removed the back cover.
Flip opened that Copper Layer (I really don't know its purpose though) and unplugged 3 battery plugs. That when the things began to get out of my hand.
After reinserting the plug I started my mobile once again only to see the Sony Logo and not the blue waves. So I tried to restart the mobile by pressing the Rest button near the SD Card Slot only then I came to know it stopped working.
So once again I unplugged the battery and this time I had that copper layer trimmed and replugged the battery.
And this time no Sony Logo too :crying: but I could feel the temperature of metal on the board rising to its peak. I don't know what to do...
Is there a way to make my Sony work again?

Hi, the phone has started up, however, is there any way to make the solution last?
Please it would be really nice that there is a chance to recover the phone.

Of course there is a way to save your phone, but nowadays the process cost more than buying another M4 AQUA used. You can do "reballing" or a little "reflow" in any refurbishing store if you want but I recommend changing that phone. It is not so good to use mate.
