[Q] Bad battery life - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, 3 days ago I've installed CM10.1 nightly build from 2013-07-25 on my friend's Galaxy S III (international), now his battery life is really bad and he's complaining on me, any way I can improve the battery life?
Here goes a screenshot (as you can see, he wasn't even using the phone when the battery just dropped 50%):

Cyanogen mod roms are known to drain battery much faster than touchwiz.so you cant really expect the battery life to be the same as on stock or stock based roms. you may improve the battery life by using an app called Greenify. it hibernates apps so that they will not run in the backround. this can help considerably. also make sure to turn off gps , bluetooth, wifi. and mobile data when not in use.

well first tell your "friend" that thats how things are in AOSPs. Secondly use differrent kernels and proper setting to get max battery (tutorials are available) plus greenify apps you do not use. And the usual killers as GPS/WiFi/NFC/3G use only when needed or turn them off..

Something is extremely wrong there. Get a normal usage BBS dump and post it here. Also take screenshots of the BBS pages.
Also post a screenshot of your battery stats page (one that shows which apps drain battery).

[Q] Android System Draining Battery? *Pics Inside*

Hi All,
Ive had my sgs2 for about a week or so now and have been trying diff. custom roms almost every other day. Last night, after flashing the new villainrom 2.3 and its recommended modem, i think ive been getting the best battery life ive had so far....
HOWEVER, i find that my battery is draining for no reason still. I'm a long time android user, but also have an iphone 4. I dont expect my battery to be as great as the iphone 4's, but unnecessary drain is a little annoying. When I check my battery usage, this is what shows (look below), is this normal?
ive only used the display for about 2.5 hrs in 12 hrs, and thats the drain im getting.
Oh, and juice defender was JUST installed like 5 mins ago, so disregard that.

Why dont you try installing 2.3.4 KG1? I have it on and it seemed to have increased the battery life. Did you check any processes that are not shutting down?
Vr2.3 is based on kg3.
That looks ok, use titanium backup to freeze anything you don't use.
The most useful part of the battery info is the zoomed in graph with awake time etc.

Villainrom still has all the samsung bloatware in it. I have cognition and man my battery lasts long. No weird apps running in the background. Just JD Ultimate taking care of even more powersaving.
With regular texting and app usage (of course differs to any type of person) I get 32-36 hours of usage.

[Q] Is it a heavy battery drain?

Guys,
since i am not sure what does good battery backup means for our LG Optimus One, i have decided to ask you instead.
The flat line in picture is when the mobile was in standby mode almost 7 hours. Mobile was at 90% when i woke up mobile from standby mode. I have no problem for battery drain in that period.
My proble starts when i started using data on my mobile. I used data for almost 3.30 hrs and mobile reached at 5% battery level.

I wanted to ask you is that is it considered as bad battery backup? For me i sould have used the data 2-3 hours more. For my normal use also i cant get past 15 hrs in a day.
And why does Cell Standby and Phone Idle consume so much battery. I checked in Application/Running services "Settings, Juice defender, DSPManager, Google services and Android Keyboard" were running.
My battery health is Good.
I am on new bb. and on latest Nightly. With all other ROM even Oxygen gives me the same backup.
Help me to get better battery guys. How much battery backup you guys get.
Regards,
No that is completely normal....with data of course battery life goes down the drain. I get about 3-4 hours too so it's normal. Even on a Galaxy nexus it is the same thing.

Battery drop when not in use.

Hello , i'm on an investigation why did my phone died last night. Basically i left it on 33% and in the morning the phone was completely dead! Usually it never took more than 15% overnight. I was unable to determinate the problem via BBS because as you may know BBS doesn't really work on 4.4 Kitkat (even if set as system app). The only thing i can show you is the build-in battery monitor graph. See the red section - no screen times , no waking , no GPS , no Wi-Fi but the graph is still going down. I always keep an eye on my battery stats and overal phone health but this is the first time i'm experiencing such issue.

That graph is essentially useless/tells us nothing whatsoever. I'd be replacing the battery (might want to do a clean install of JB stock first to make sure it isn't a KK rom problem).

That graph is basically all i have without BBS.
Yes, I know that. And as I've said, it's useless. What exact information are you expecting anyone else to glean from it that you haven't already done yourself (We're not mystics) ? It's a simple/basic graph, it provides simple/basic information, which won't answer your questions/give you info to enable you to solve your problem.
Stock kernel?Any undervolting?Maybe it freezed and that drained your battery.

Help in understanding the cause of battery drain

Hello,
I am using Nexus 6P with the unrooted N6F26Q build of Pure Nexus ROM. I have always had decent battery performance of this phone with my general usage. Recently I have moved to a new geographic location and I see a rapid battery drain while the phone in a particular building. I do not have cell phone network here, so I have AirPlane mode turned on, but I use WiFi for internet connectivity. My observations are as follows:
1. During the day time, when I am in building A, there is no battery drain. I don't use my phone much and the battery level does not drop by much.
2. During evening and night time, I am in building B, which has a different WiFi, the battery immediately starts to deplete rapidly and in the morning I wake up with a dead phone.
3. Suspecting that the WiFi might be the cause, I tried to switch WiFi off at night, but I still found my phone to be dead in the morning.
I captured the bug report data and tried to analyze it with battery historian, but I don't have enough experience to point out the cause.
This is what the battery historian graph looks like.

Same graph from another bug report, when the WiFi was turned off during the night:
Can someone see something unusual in the graphs?
I can share the entire bug report via PM if someone wants to take a closer look.
Thank you.

Battery drain - bugreport Battery Historian

Hi guys, I have a Redmi Note 7 and I'm using Pixel Experience ROM. I had experienced battery drain even with MIUI, but I don't understand what's causing it.
I used Battery Historian and these are the result. I got a very high discharge rate (20% and over) even if brightness is not at its maximum, but by reading BH results, I hadn't found out the culprit for the battery drain. The drain is there even when screen is off, but I limitated it to about 1.5%/h thanks to some Doze modification.
I'm actually using Greenify to hibernate some apps (like Instagram, Facebook and few more), because I've noticed that, without it, the screen-on discharge may rose of a (around) +3%.
How could I limit the battery drain problem?
have you used a custom kernel
Since Android 9 there is the Adaptive Battery Feature:

}
Enable Use Adaptive Battery if not already done yet.
Additionally turn off Wi-Fi, BlueTooth & Location ( GPS ) if not used: it should be obvious that the less these wireless modules are running, the less the battery gets drained. FYI: GPS drains battery greatly.
I'm currently using Predator Stormbreaker kernel, in an attempt to partially fix the battery drain, but things are same as before. Adaptive battery is on, but my phone keeps discharging fast :/
