[Q] Failure downgrading hboot and now stuck. - HTC EVO 3D

I am at a really screwed up point, and I am hoping that someone can offer me some assistance.
I have a Virgin Mobile Evo3D that is unlocked and s-off. I have TWRP, although I can't get to it at the moment. I attempted to install CM 10.1 from this link. I screwed up reading the requirements and interpreted the statement of "Any HBOOT lower than 1.57" as "Don't us any HBOOT lower than 1.57" since it followed another "Don't" just above it. In any case, I wiped everything and got this error during flash:
assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader") == 1.04.2000"
Click to collapse
I followed that error to this thread which made it perfectly clear that I had to use a lower HBOOT. Keep in mind that at this point I do not have any active ROM.
I then went to this thread and downloaded hBoot 1.04.2000. I renamed the file to PG86IMG.zip, and put it in the root of my SD card. Booting into recovery and then fastboot, it attempted to install that PG86IMG.zip, but it bombed out with the error
CID incorrect! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot.
Click to collapse
There is no option to go into TWRP from there, the only option is to reboot, which leads me to an endless HTC splash screen. I can pull the battery and get back into recovery and repeat that failure, or I can go to the splash screen, but that seems to be all I can do. I plugged it into my PC and attempted to run >adb devices, but nothing shows up. My hope was that I could simply delete that zip file and be able to at least get back into TWRP. Essentially I am just lost and have run out of ideas. If anyone could bail me out, I would be so very appreciative.

Sometimes the easiest fixes are the least obvious. At the suggestion of a friend, I pulled the micro SD card from the phone, stuck it into and adapter into my laptop and manually deleted the PG86IMG.zip file. I can now boot back into TWRP. As for what's next? I have no idea, but at least the immediate crisis is resolved.

So go to boot loader and report back what hboot is currently on your phone.
Also 4ext is highly recommended.
If you have hboot 1.50 or 1.04 you should be able to flash a jb ROM...usually

White HTC screen the screen will flash black once and then back to white htc screen, followed by a blank screen then comes in the mikroms with the roadrunner on top and it freezes there then black screen again and phone repeats the whole process again but if I connect the phone to the car charger process is kind of the same except the phone turns on is this problem fixable?

Sounds like your having boot problems. Can you boot into bootloader just fine without being connected to a charger? If so try flashing the proper boot image for the Rom your on, using fastboot commands.

The initial boot.IMG flash may have not been a complete success. Check the md5sum of your Rom.

It shouldn't matter but I've heard reports of some people not being able to use fastboot commands and had to unlock. But that individual was using stock hboot aposed to joupunut hboot.. if you do have problems I guess you could just unlock..

yeah stock locked/relocked hboots even if s-off won't let you fastboot things...

put one of those on you're sd card after you do the latest RUU so you can have fastboot capabilities.
CHECK MD5 very important when doing hboot or radio things

Nope doesn't matter that's what the moddified hboots are for. the link is in my above post
Ok so I just updated to the latest ruu today i didn't have time until today but things got worse now I updated first before checking md5, could that have been the error? and now it just keeps rebooting on the HTC screen and it won't go to the mikroms screen
I went to my roms page and I can't seem to find the md5 http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...ense-4-GB-4-0-3)-4-2-2012&p=197893#post197893 help??? (I'm extremely tired so my finding/logical sense are not working properly right now)
and now it seems as if my recovery has been deleted as I get a Phone screen facing up as if it was laying down on a table with a green refreshing sign/reloading sign fllowed by a phone screen facing me with a red triangle like the one where you turn on the hazard lights on your car
..
You could find Amon Ra 3.15 recovery in a zip that can be renamed PH98IMG.zip
and reinstall recovery. Your immediate problem may be solved, but if you have time, you can do more.
Amon Ra lets you look at either internal drive: your sdcard or the phone's storage:
toggle the sdcard, attach to computer, and remove the PH98IMG of just-installed Amon Ra recovery.
Now find the Android Police 4.03 version (large download if correct) , make sure the md5's match for it, and
copy it to extrenal sdcard renamed as PH98IMG.zip. It will run 1 1/2 times then boot
up to operating system. Many people say to do another reinstall and/or one or more Factory Resets at this point:
one from Seup- Storage - Factory reset with phone "on". Another factory resey is availble
by booting to recovery and choosing Reset. It's a good idea to do one or both style resets before
you reinstall a recovery. Every time you run an RUU or a zip that replaces the ROM, you have
to reinstall that Recovery. To avoid no-charging situations, I'd advise keeping Amon Ra 3.15.
Now you're at the point you can root and play with this powerful handset.

2.27 is the newst Global firmware.
When you boot, are you still seeing something from MikRoms?
If yes, your RUU installation didn't work.
I'd use Amon Ra to wipe:
every choice several times and reinstall the whole Android Police 4.03 PH98IMG.zip.
If you don't get a nice clean oem-style stock bootup after that, then the RUU is suspect, may need
to get from another source.

yup I get the mikroms thing again guess it didn't work when I wipe my data do I wipe ALL data/factory reset and does this include my SD card when it gets wiped or no?
.
yeppers:
in AmonRa, take Wipe, then do each one including the internal and external Sdcards
and dalvik cache and everything else a coupla times..
The RUU ought to have undone everything else in your phone incl MikMik, so it may
not be a good one.
After all wipes, put it back onto your external card as PH98IMG and flash twice.
If all is well, you'll have a fine virgin install ready to be rooted and messed with.

[Q] Unable to go to ICS, please help

Hey Guys,
So I was previously running BulletProof 2.5 ROM and when I heard about the official release I immediately attempted to upgrade it.
I performed the following steps:
1)Relocked phone
2)Flashed the Telus RUU(while phone was connected to computer using the exe file)
*also attempted using the OTA.zip file after renaming it to PH85IMG after RUU flash
3)Unlocked bootloader
4)Flashed 4Ext
5)Flashed SU package
Once I rebooted phone and checked phone info it said I had
v2.3.4
Sense 3.0
Soft 1.41.661.3
Clearly this is the stock OS. Whenever I try to do the PH85IMG the phone freezes at HTC boot screen. I cannot figure this out. I was wondering if it is possible (and if it would work), if someone could create a backup of the OS after the ICS update that I could restore from.
I would really like to get ICS and any help would be appreciated
P.s. I am S-ON.
Thank you
Diogo
Didn't really search much did you? You need to relock bootloader again, flash ruu. Then run update before unlocking again.

Relock.
Flash Telus RUU
Place the OTA on your SD card and name it as update.zip.
Boot into STOCK recovery. Not 4EXT or anything,
Press apply update.zip.
Done.

Did you read this thread
Although the title said S-Off but don't worry, just read through it.
My experiences from performing S-Off and flashing RUU with this phone that, offenly I have to re-do / re-flash twice, even three times. Somehow the Amaze is kinda stubborn and it doesn't wanted to obey your command on first order.
Good luck
I tried reflashing multiple times, everytime I go into bootloader I get:
HTC phone with green arrown pointing down, with 2 circular green arrows around it.
Becomes an HTC Phone with the red triangle and exclamation mark in it.
Then the following text appears "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
The recovery menu appears and I select "Apply update from sdcard"
and i always get
Invalid Operation
success rebooting by reason"oem-00

[Q] need help! 1.19 unlocked and rooted, still cant install anything

This is my first post so sorry if what I ask is stupid or something. I have searched everywhere and cannot find anything that is current enough to help me. I have hboot 1.19 and my software version is 2.13.651.1 710RD. I'm unlocked, rooted and also have TWRP recovery and I'm s-on. When I rooted my phone it also gave me SuperSU. I'm super lost now because I can't flash any ROMs to my phone. I've tried the charmeleon ROM and also the tranquility ROM but when TWRP is at the end of the Installing process it says that it failed and that there is no md5 or something like that.
what am I doing wrong?

Just disable MD5 check in TWRP, that should fix it. You do want to verify your MD5 matches in something like ES File Explorer. If you don't that will cause many other problems.

Well yes but the Rom will still install without errors. Go to the TeamWin website and download it from there. Grab the zip and rename it and place it on your external sd and boot to bootloader. It will install and then reboot but if you don't have a working Rom remove the sd afterward otherwise you can get stuck in a loop. Do not place it on internal if you don't have a working Rom. The other ways to install would be to use goo manager to install or flash the recovery in fastboot

Alright i'll give this a try, but what zip am i supposed to download and rename? I already have the latest version of TWRP on my phone.
You can check the md5 using a file explorer. Longpress on file and select properties, then compare to where you downloaded the ROM from. If s-on, you'll have to pull the boot.IMG from the ROM zip and fastboot flash from cmd or use flash image GUI app from your phone if you can boot.
Also, I think the disable md5 check in TWRP is under settings.

Internal storage on my phone is fried - can't mount anything. PC doesn't find it. RUU is out of date or would possibly work. I'm using windows 7 and having a very scary ride because the phone won't show up with anything except the SD card - which would be awesome and let me flash the new CM10 - but unfortunately when I go to install it, I get "unable to mount SD card" as a perpetual error message. Even the 3.15 RUU is out of date, also, and though I went through the rooting process and unlocked the device thru HTC's website, I have version 3.16 and the RUU tells me to get the correct RUU and try again. I have to go to work now, if anybody else has been through the special hell I'm trying to deal with please post something, anything, to get my windows able to find my phone, or my drive (internal) to mount to the pc or anything! This looks like a brick (and I've never screwed anything up this bad before )
Boot to twrp and mount storage, then plug into computer. Windows will recognize that it's corrupt and give you the choice to format it.
I still have S-ON. *facepalm*
How can I achieve S-OFF status so that the ROM, which I more or less WAS able to flash using your advice, will be able to quit boot looping and actually work?

I have Ubuntu 64 bit lol. ****ing trolls killed my windows dreams. Got it about 40% booted earlier - said Android is Upgrading and ran through the apps, then died on me and never got that far again. I'm not 100% sure that S-ON is my only issue - this phone has had problems since day 1 power cycling and a few other strange issues, I'm probably going to just get a warranty replacement.

I'm not 100% sure that S-ON is my only issue - this phone has had problems since day 1 power cycling and a few other strange issues, I'm probably going to just get a warranty replacement.

Definitely sounds like you might have issues. Won't hurt to take it in-just make sure you take it to a reputable Sprint repair center.

Got it done. Waited about a week or so to clear my head - then, starting with the unlock bootloader, I used dirtyracun to basically complete the whole process. Was missing a step on babyracun and it wasn't working because of that.

[Q] PJ75IMG.zip

so I copied the JB RUU zip into the root of the sdcard(internal) and when I go into bootloader...it doesn't see it...any suggestions? i'm on hboot1.12
Ruu packages don't run from the bootloader, and never place any update packages on internal memory. Should anything go wrong you will be stuck in a seemingly endless loop of updating and rebooting. The ruu zip needs to be run from the desktop with the phone in fastboot. Unlimited.io has the directions on running the ruu zip.
can you help me with how to get my phone back to stock?
i'm rooted, bootloaded unlocked and running a custom ROM.
when I've tried to relock the bootloader and run the RUU from Windows, nothing happens...it just freezes.
what i'm trying to accomplish is to get all the latest firmware and radio without s-off...i can't do s-off because i don't have a windows 7 32-bit computer. i know it's a bit of a runaround but i figured i could go back to stock unrooted with the latest release and then reroot, unlock, and then load a custom ROM again with the latest firmware and radios...

Actually that's not exactly true. If he has an RUU.zip he can flash that through fast boot. You'll need to place the RUU.zip in his adb folder on the pc. Open a command window there. Then type
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
Only RUU.exe files can be run from the computer. And in both cases he'll have to relock his phone before he runs or flashes anything.

You really should s-off. You can definitely do it on a 64 bit computer by booting a live CD of ubuntu 32 bit on a 64 bit computer. It's totally supported. Head on over to the dirtyracun thread. Or go directly to their website http://unlimited.io. They offer live support via there IRC channel. The link to their channel is right on the first page of their website.

Thank you for repeating and elaborating on what I said which was ruu zip is run from the desktop with phone in fastboot
when i relock my phone, my phone gets stuck in the bootloader and won't do anything, won't be recognized by the computer, and just gets stuck there with a "security warning". i can't get into recovery or anything...i have to re unlock it for me to be able to do anything. so how can i run fastboot through the computer if my phone is unrecognized by the computer when relocked?

Phone stuck in endless loop
I put the PJ75IMG.zip on my internal memory and am now stuck in the endless loop that was talked about. Is there any way out of this? I can't get to recovery because of the update, and I don't have an OS/rom installed, so I can't boot and remove it from there. Is there any way to wipe the internal memory without access to well... anything? Please help!

The bootloader will only scan for the PJ75IMG file if it's in the root folder of your external SD card. It won't look for it in your internal storage. Remove the SD card and delete the file. You can then put the card back in your phone.
What were you trying to update?

No problem. Actually happened to me at work a few weeks back and didn't have access to a computer. Ended up pulling my SD card and putting it in a co-workers' OG EVO so I could delete the file.

You know....you could've simply removed the SD card, then boot into the bootloader. After it finishes the scan for PJ75IMG, reinsert the SD, then boot into recovery. That's what I always do.
That way, I'm not forced to use another device, or boot back into Android (if I didn't wipe my OS).

Actually, the problem was a little more "involved". I got stuck in a boot loop trying to install the Sense 5 port on my phone (this was after I had done the touch panel driver update after downgrading it previously) and I forgot to delete it. Every time I booted to the bootloader, it automatically scanned for the file on the card, so I had no way of getting into recovery. I keep all my backups, etc., on my SD card, so removing it and booting the phone wasn't an option at the time

Forgive me if I don't fully understand your situation. This has happened to me many times with the touch panel zip. While I'm in the bootloop, I remove my SD. I boot into the bootloader, then reinsert it. That's when I boot into recovery. Simple and easy.
I don't mean to dwell on the matter, but I'm sure that someone will run into this problem while they have no pc access or alternate solutions for an extended period of time.

Trying to upgrade the HBOOT to accommodate the new partition layout, I did the following:
With the Jewel disconnected from the USB...
Booted into hboot/bootloader
System started scanning for PJ75IMG. Finds it and starts update.
Finishes update and tells me to press power to reboot.
Stuck in HTC white screen for at least 10 minutes, as of 9:53 pm EST
Is there something wrong or do I need to wait longer or what?

There's no Rom for it to boot to. You have to flash the TWRP recovery from Capt's if you haven't already, and then flash the Sense 5 Rom of your choice.

:highfive:Thanks. I guess I freaked out. Went back to recovery and TWRP 1b was installed, so I just cleared partitions, installed ROM and there it was. I should flash phones more often to get much more familiar.
... and then again... now after ROM flash, it get stuck on the ROM's splash window (Beanstalk 4.4, new partition ready, digital roaming fixed). GRRRR
SOLVED - It seens I didn't wipe partitions. Once that was done Beanstalk started set-up. D'uh

[Q] No OS after updating the new 4.3 Sense 5.5 from Sprint

I'm hoping the wisdom of the XDA crowd can show me the way. My EVO 4G LTE was unrooted, fully stock when I ran the new RUU from Sprint. It got stuck and never completed. It sat overnight, with the sliver HTC logo against a black background. The program stopped responding on my laptop. So, I disconnected. I am able to get into HBOOT screen. I can reach the phone through ADB when connected in Fastboot. I have also been able to load TWRP and CWM, but image files won't take. I cannot get the phone to load past the white screen with the green HTC letters.
I figure that I have no more OS. But, I cannot do anything else because while I have unlocked the bootloader, I still have S-ON. I have HBOOT 2.10 as well.
I cannot mount the storage from the laptop, but I do have an external SD card I can swap in and out.
I know there are ways I can get to a new ROM with HBOOT 2.10, but it seems they all require S-OFF. I can't figure out how to get S-OFF.
At this point I would just like a working phone. Where do I go from here?

To gain s-OFF you'd need to be on 3.16 firmware if you don't want the hassle then redo the RUU a different way which is that link V

Thanks for the link. That kind of worked. The first rom_1.zip that I renamed didn't work...Gave me an error that said "Wrong zipped file!" I tried it with the other file, just to see, and that seemed to work. It was able to parse it and flash it. However, when I rebooted, I am still stuck on the white HTC screen.
Is there any way to downgrade the firmware to 3.16 from fastboot or recovery? I can still access CWM.
Not unless you're S-off, no.

No.
Have you tried running the RUU again from the bootloader, or have you tried flashing a ROM?

I was trying to figure out how to run the RUU from the bootloader, but couldn't figure it out. How can I do that?
Connect via Fastboot USB mode and start the RUU just like you did when you ran it previously.

Yes - I've done that. Putting it into Fastboot USB was the only way my laptop could recognize the phone. I could try to flash a rom, but I wasn't sure which one would work with the HBOOT/firmware version I have.

If your Hboot and firmware match the new layout you can try and flash one of the new Android 4.3 Sense 5 ROM's.
I'll keep looking for one that doesn't require S-OFF. All the ones I've found so far require it.

No luck on that front, but Captain_Throwback came to the rescue and gave me the solution after a plea from help over at the Android Central forums. I had to relock my bootloader, then load on the RUU as a PJ75IMG.img in the root of the SD card.
The file was provided by Captain_Throwback - link is in the post here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...te-coming-htc-evo-4g-lte-132.html#post3475940
Everything is working great now. It does feel like a new phone, to a certain extent - very fast.
