[Q] Sync Two Folders (PC to Android) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I currently have music stored both on my Android phone and on my PC, both are in their own "Music" folders. Previously to sync them I would use Microsoft's SyncToy which allowed me to point it at my Music folder on the PC and the microSD card on the Android device and it would easily and simply sync the two folders.
However now I have a device that only supports MTP which SyncToy does not, I've tried different syncing applications but they too seem to have some issues with the MTP protocol. I'm wondering what's the best way to sync music between my PC and Android phone preferably using USB as my collection is slightly large.

[Q] Has anyone been able to sync their music & playlists yet? Problems with MTP!

I've been trying to sync my music collection to my Galaxy, without much luck.
My PC: 80 GB of music, 12 GB in playlists, MediaMonkey 3.2.4.
My phone: 16 GB in a microUSB card.
1) If I use USB disk drive mode:
* MediaMonkey can sync my music to either my microUSB or internal phone memory.
* Playlists are transferred without any issues to the directory I specify.
But my "Music" application doesn't recognize my playlists! So I'm left with a ton of music I can't listen to in the order I want.
2) If I use the MTP mode:
* MediaMonkey *sometimes* syncs my music. Other times, it just stops and does nothing. Same thing with Kies. The problem seems to be the phone - eventually MTP stops responding there. I can't browse my device from my PC, and obviously Kies and MM can't sync.
* Playlists are transferred correctly.
The "Music" app works with whatever playlists and songs managed to sync.
I've looked everywhere for an answer. It seems many people have this issue with the Galaxy, since apparently the music stock app cannot read .m3u playlists, and I believe the only way to sync playlists is using the MTP mode.. which is definitely broken.
Any ideas will be appreciated!

Music Help Please!

I have a mac running snow leopard. I installed samsung kies to transfer music. the music will transfer but when I launch Google Music, it won't recognize the music. I can even go to the directory of where the music is located and play a song using google music. Plan B. Since that didn't work, I installed Android File Transfer for Mac. Doesn't work. Plan C. I used cheetah sync to transfer the files. The files transferred to the Music folder on the tab. Google music still doesn't recognize. Plan D. I shuffled around 1 song to different locations on the tab aka root folder, media folder, music folder, everywhere! Still doesn't recognize that one song. Plan E. I download a mp3 download app. I download a song and google music recognizes it. I look through the directories to see where the app downloaded the song. Couldn't find the song. Checked every single folder. What else is there to do??
I don't own a Mac, so I cannot help you on your specific Mac issues.
BUT, do you have, by chance, a Windows PC available? If yes, everything is transparent. You even don't need Kies - just connect the GT via USB and copy the music files using Windows Explorer.
If you have a home network with shared folders, you can access and copy the music files using FileManagerHD app (free) in the tablet.
I hope it helps you.

The one caveat to this is that some download services mark the files as "hidden", so if you don't have Show Hidden Files and Folders checked in the folder's view settings, you won't see them at all. A maddening problem I had with my Sansa several years ago.
Think google music needs propper id3Tags to find tracks

[Q] Media Monkey

So I came from an iPhone 4S and iTunes. iTunes is horrible at music management so I spent 10 hours yesterday organizing and autotagging my music into folders. My structure is Artist > Album for everything.
I am using Media Monkey to manage my playlist now. Im having trouble getting things syncing to the S4. Has anyone else used Media Monkey to do this? The goal is to sync the playlist and MM will automatically sync the music associated with the playlist.
I think most of my issue is stemming from the fact that when I plug the S4 into my laptop (which has Kies drivers installed) I cant get it to show up as a drive. So far I have tried using Installer Mode, MTP, and PTP modes and a drive will not mount. It shows up under Portable Drives and SCH-I545. I can double click the SCH-I545 and see the 16Gb SD card labelled as Card. Currently this SD card is formatted in exFat per the Root Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380325
Does anyone use MM? If so how do you have it configured to sync playlists to the Galaxy?

Treating USB storage as internal? (Android Media Scanner)

Hi, I recently purchased one of these Android 4.1 Car stereo units http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2528349 (I've looked all over that thread and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem.)
I want to be able to use Doubletwist player as my main music player, and I want it to be able to read the files on my external usb hard drive (plugged into the back of the unit).
The unit recognizes the USB hard drive, as I can access all the files through certain other music players and through any file explorer. The problem is that Doubletwist won't recognize anything other than the internal storage and the SD card.
I emailed Doubletwist and they replied with this:
DoubleTwist Player uses two sources to recognize files (& the associated metadata) and playlists on the device.
1. Sync database created/updated by the computer application during a sync.
2. Android Media Scanner (AMS) database which is updated by the Android Media Database service.
So if the storage location isn't seen by the AMS service, doubleTwist Player will not import information about these files into it's database.

Is there any way to edit what directories the Android Media Service looks at? Then I could simply swap the sd card and usb drive directories (I don't use the SD card slot at all). Or does anyone have another solution to get this to work?
Alternatively, I just want decent music player similar to Doubletwist. I like Doubletwist's intuitive UI, the fact that it uses playlists and the fact that I can "play next" or "add to play queue".
I have tried Poweramp and I don't really like the interface, and Rocketplayer would have been fine but it is really buggy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
P.S. Forgot to mention, the usb directory is /mnt/usb/mnt1
Any ideas?

Putting music on TS

Could someone give me an idea the easiest way to load music onto my Truesmart? Thanks for any help I can get on this.. Gene
Patch it first or install Dees BT ROM.
Connect it to your PC and select mass storage mode.
Copy music to the "Music" folder on your device
You can use "Airdroid" to copy your files (music, pics, vids) wirelessly to your TS.
Airdroid is available in PlayStore. I patched my TS with Gapps so I have the store on my device.

The only thing I can add to this is if you have added the SDCARD.
I use RDIO, On the login screen you can point the storage to a custom location, like maybe a folder on the sdcard..
I have over 1000 songs synced from Rdio plus all my Podcasts that are synced automatically using BeyondPod. wether you
manage your own stuff (drag and drop over usb) our use a service (RDIO, Spotify, Play Music, etc) I recommend you consider the extra storage.
I don't have bluetooth on my computer, so I tried airdroid. I never had a problem with airdroid on my HP touchpad tablet, but for some reason I could not get it to load to my truesmart. I ended up paying under $2 for wifi file transfer pro. The interface is easy to use and I copied about 12GB of music to my truesmart in about an hour over my wifi network.
Another wireless option (free)
I use ES File Explorer to move all kinds of files all over the place wirelessly, whether on computers on my Wifi network (LAN) or in the cloud.
I use Media Monkey and USB Mass Storage mode (mtp is buggy and unreliable). Also Spotify in offline mode works great, or online mode if you have 3G and get good reception in your area.
